Here are some breast cancer myths which you need to know.

Myth 1: Breast Cancer = A Lump Which Can Be Felt

Fact: A common misconception is that breast cancer always causes a lump that can be felt during a self-exam. People might use this as a reason to skip mammograms, thinking they will be able to feel any change that will indicate a problem. A mammogram can find a cancerous lump before it can be felt. While breast cancer does not always cause an obvious lump, cancer might have already spread beyond the breast into the lymph nodes by the time it does. Although regular self-exams are recommended, they are not a substitute for regular mammograms. While mammograms are excellent screening tools, women above 40 are advised to get a mammogram yearly.

Myth 2: Small Breasts = Smaller Risk Of Breast Cancer

Fact: Most breast cancers form outside of the fatty tissues of a woman’s breasts. Therefore, breast density is more important than breast size when it comes to risk and screening. This is the only physical breast characteristic proven to increase a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer. Women with more than 75 percent dense breast tissue face a four-to-six times greater risk because it’s difficult to detect tumors in dense breast tissue with standard x-ray mammography. As the tumors appear white, just as the tissue itself, cancer is more often missed or found later in advanced stages in these women.

Myth 3: Breast Cancer = Contagious

Fact: Like all other cancers, breast cancer is not contagious at all. Breast cancer results from uncontrolled cell growth of mutated cells that spread into the other tissues within the breast. This happens only within a person’s body. You can never transfer or transmit cancer through the air or bodily fluids.

Myth 4: A Lump In Breast = Breast Cancer

Fact: Not all breast lumps are cancerous. Some of them may be fibrosis or simple cysts only. However, these are usually harmless. Look out for changes and never ignore a persistent lump in your breast. Make sure always to see a medical provider for a thorough breast exam. Your provider may order laboratory exams to determine if the lump is a concern or not.

Myth 5: Bras = Breast Cancer

Fact: Bras and its underwire have no relevance when cancer occurs. A scientific study in 2014 looked at the link between wearing a bra and breast cancer and found no correlation, nor did it find or prove that women who wore bras versus women who don’t have an increased risk of breast cancer.

Myth 6: Breast Cancer = Family History

Fact: Some women may think they’re not at risk for breast cancer if no one else in their family has had it. Unfortunately, that’s not true. Every individual’s genetic makeup is different. Not to mention the lifestyle practices and the influence they can have on health. The key is to minimize the risk factors which include, alcohol, obesity, hormone therapies.

Myth 7: Breast Cancer = Same Treatment For Every Type

Fact: Treatment plans vary widely depending on the characteristics of the tumor, the stage of cancer, and patient preferences. Some breast cancer cells have receptors on their surface, making them sensitive to hormones. In such patients, treatment with anti-hormonal drugs can block the growth of cancer cells. However, some cancers get resistant to this treatment over time. Thus, the need for additional treatment options beyond established anti-hormonal treatment approaches remains high, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgical options.

Breast cancer is treatable, and when caught early, it increases recovery rates for patients. Always make self-breast examination a habit and get regular mammograms to check for lumps. Look out for signs like swelling, pain, discomfort, discharge. In case you find anything, make sure to consult your doctor.

Descon And KBR Win A Strategic Contract From The World’s Largest GTL Plant

Lahore: Descon Engineering (Qatar operations) has won five year+ contract from Pearl Qatar Shell Gas to Liquid (QSGTL) to maintain the plants’ mechanical operations in collaboration with Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR). A signing ceremony was convened by Shell management in Doha to announce the award.

Under the terms of the contract, Descon and KBR will provide overall mechanical maintenance services permanently both for onshore & offshore facilities with the help of dedicated year-round resources and a project management team.

Descon and KBR collaboration won the award from Pearl GTL – Shell Qatar. Descon and KBR’s new contract to Shell Qatar’s uniquely integrated development program is a testament to the partnership the two companies have had in the past and will continue going forward.

Executive Vice President of GTL and Country Chair, Mr. Richard Tallant said: “We look forward to working with Descon and KBR to deliver the highest standards of safety during all turnaround work at our Pearl GTL plant in the years ahead. This is an important element for Shell’s long-term commitment to the country and a key value driver for us”

We reported to you a doctor’s arrest yesterday for filming and sharing obscene videos of women in Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital. There have been several cases of men filming women and then blackmailing them with the footage. Now, women have also started joining the ranks of these criminals as a shocking case has been registered against a woman. It involves filming men and women and sharing their obscene videos.

What Is The Latest?

A female hacker by the name of Hina Mehmood has been arrested regarding her alleged role in sharing obscene images and videos of multiple people on social media platforms. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is involved in the case and has been sharing crucial information pertaining to it. It appears Mehmood would hack Gmail, Hotmail, Skype, Instagram, and Snapchat accounts. She first did this to a man and then proceeded to share obscene videos from his own accounts.

Hina Mehmood is also accused of sharing inappropriate videos from two WhatsApp numbers and also used VPN to avoid any traces. However, the FIA can not be underestimated, she is now behind bars.

How Was She Found?

The accused’s luck ran out when a man and woman suffered due to her and filed a complaint. The FIA was able to nab the suspect after the complaint was launched by them regarding the hacking of their mobile phones. She was tracked using the leaked data.

What Was Found In Her Possession?

A mobile phone was recovered from Hina Mehmood, the contents of which were appalling. There were many obscene videos, multiple WhatsApp numbers and private pictures found of men and women alike. It was also found by the FIA that she was using citizens’ data to make the videos viral on social media. The material of the two applicants who filed the complaint was also found on the hacker’s phone recovered by FIA.

Something Out of Netflix?

This seems far from reality or even maturity. The female hacker clearly learned basic skills to get into accounts of innocent people and get her hands on their private photos and videos. All this, moreover, seems like her replicating the plot of some series on Netflix, thinking she will be successful.

Though the law may be lax in Pakistan, one can still not run too far from it. We hope the people who were hurt by her are given justice and an example is made out of those who make the internet unsafe.

FBR Announces Punishments For Filers Missing Deadline

[Update: Oct 14th, 2021]: With every year FBR extending the return filing deadline, people have adopted a lax attitude regarding it. Unlike every year, the government does not seem to be giving much of a leeway. The last deadline issued was 30th September. The authorities refused to extend the deadline further except for those few who submitted the request for extension. The deadline for them is now October 15th.

Punishments for not following the deadline

Now, the FBR spokesperson has taken to Twitter announcing that there will be no further extension past October 15th. People have to file by then or face punishment. From case to case, the punishment will vary but it is being hinted that the punishment may entail a PKR 1000 fine daily or a 2-year jail.

Hence, filers should make the most of these last two days. The online portal works 24/7 and as the organization claims, this time it is working efficiently.

[September 30th, 2021]: Every year, people have to file their income tax returns. Filing is something you should do for the betterment of your own country as a loyal citizen. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has also tried to accommodate all Pakistani citizens in facilitating the filing process. In fact, you can now electronically file taxes without the help of consultants as well.

Yet, due to numerous reasons, people fail to file it on time. Almost every year, FBR extends the deadline. The date that should be 31st July, with continuous extensions, goes up to even December. Because of these extensions, the citizens have begun to adopt a lax attitude as well. With the deadline approaching, the filers always delay hoping for a deadline, and they get it. Not this time though!

FBR returns extension and who can apply

The institution has taken steps to tighten the hold on the process. Just yesterday, they announced that there will not be an extension. However, today, they have said that they might just allow the extension but only for those who ask for it. In the notification, it was mentioned that the individuals who seek the extension will have to submit an application, unlike previous times when the extension was automatically applied to everyone. This update is under the provisions of section 119 (1) of the Income Tax Ordinance.

It was also said that there will be no extension for companies but individuals can avail the extension of 15 days.

Moreover, the timing for income tax offices was also extended. The relevant offices are now to stay open until 12 am on Wednesday and Thursday.

As for actions against traders, FBR spokesperson Asad Tahir said that show-cause notice will be issued after 15 days to those who have not installed PoS yet. He said that the fine charged will be PKR 500,000. The fine will increase to PKR 3 million if the traders do not install PoS even in the entire month. The last resort will be closing the business.

FBR return guidelines

Let’s have a look at the guidelines for the extension of the income tax return deadline. In a statement, the organization has mentioned that individuals can submit the application in two ways. They can either submit it online or at the help desks at the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs). They will have to provide their NTN and NIC numbers to submit the application.

Ride-Hailing App, InDriver Is Offering Affordable Rates; Lets You Bargain

In times when you need to travel often and a bus just does not match your route, you have to rely on ride-hailing apps. Now, using ‘some’ of these apps takes a huge toll on your wallet. An employee with a PKR 50,000 monthly salary will never be able to afford such a lifestyle. However, the ride-hailing app, InDriver, newly launched in Pakistan has a huge surprise. It is indeed amazing the citizens with its new features they had not seen till date.

You can quote the fare with InDriver!

Now, it is not like you can quote a PKR 200 price for a distance from Port Grand to Steel Mill. Let’s not exploit the drivers too here. The app calculates the rates for the ride by taking out an average. It looks at other apps and the fare they might charge as well as the expected time factoring in the traffic. On that basis, it gives you an average fare. However, you can still quote a lesser price; just don’t go below a minimum rate fed into the app.

The prices are lower

The best part is that the prices are lower too. Of course, you will say that since we are quoting the fare, the price has to be less. But no, that is not what we mean. Yes, it is somewhat linked to the above-mentioned point but as you can see, when the user quotes the fare, they have to stay within a range; that range is lower. A ride that would usually quote you PKR 500 and during the ride hike up to PKR 800, will now stay as PKR 500 or PKR 450 (whatever you quoted to InDriver).

The Downside

It’s not like it is a God-sent though. People have found issues with it as well. But then again, most of the time, it is because of the people. For instance, some of the female users reported that they found the captains shady. Unfortunately, that is how some people are and you will find them regardless of the app.

After this incident, one gets to know another feature of the app though. Replying to the complainant, InDriver took to Twitter that they have a feature on the app that directly connects you to police when you feel the need.

It seems like Squid Game fever is not going to die out anytime soon. People can’t get enough of the record-breaking Netflix original, it has gripped viewers worldwide since its release. Memes and videos have flooded social media platforms, and some have organized wholesome events to bring their thrills to life. Now, the Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is organizing a reenactment of the games seen in the Netflix series.

The Korean Cultural Center in the UAE is organizing a reenactment of the games seen in the Netflix series for two teams of 15 participants. The event will be held in two sessions on October 12 at the Korean Cultural Centre Abu Dhabi office.

Games In The Real Life Event

The center’s main page stated that four out of the seven games seen in the Netflix series would be played during the event. These include the “Red Light, Green Light” and “Dalgona Candy” challenges, both of which spawned trends on TikTok. Players would also get to try their hand at the “Marbles” and “Ddakji” (paper-flipping) games seen in the series.

Nam Chan-woo, the UAE Korean Cultural Center’s director, said,

“Just as K-Pop gained worldwide popularity through YouTube in the 2010s, I think platforms such as Netflix would be a channel for the global spread of Korean video content such as dramas and movies.”

The Catch?

While the real-life version is murder-free (thank God), each winner is expected to be given a customized green tracksuit. Sadly, there’s no prize money and no dollar bills in the piggy bank. The eliminated players would get to watch the rest of the games from the sidelines. The center’s games are expected to be held in two-hour, tournament-style sessions.

The FIA has caught the worst of crimes which just goes on to show how disadvantaged women are in our society be it in homes or at workplaces. The Crime Caught

The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recently arrested a doctor who misused his authority in Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital. The doctor was reported to be filming obscene videos of nurses and female doctors in the hospitals while they were doing their duty. The doctor is named Dr. Haris and he was reported by someone to be blackmailing female doctors and nurses. Following that, there was a raid at the hospital during which the police got their hands on the footage.

The police have also reported that Dr. Haris would film nurses and lady doctors by intoxicating them. Thereafter, he would manipulate them and make obscene videos while they were at their most vulnerable. The FIA officials have carried out an action against those involved in aiding and abetting Dr. Haris.

Similar Recent Incidents

In the middle of September, the FIA was involved in another such case. The FIA arrested a man from Hyderabad who was accused of harassing a girl by uploading her immoral videos on social media. These videos are either taken by hacking the women’s social media, by stealing their phones, or by manipulating them in real life.

The FIA also reported that the said person in this case blackmailed the girl in another way. The accused resorted to recording inappropriate videos of the girl by installing a hidden camera in her washroom. Through this, he then proceeded to blackmail her. Moreover, the man then made a fake social media account and published it so it goes viral.

The Rise of These Cases

The rise of said cases points to a growing invasion of privacy mentality amongst Pakistani men. It is also happening because of the growing accessibility to technology such as hidden cameras which are really undetectable. It is hopeful to see FIA officials work around the clock and protect women in such cases however, the prevalence of these cases is beyond concerning. To what extent can we protect ourselves?

Now, the quarantine is for 5 days. Moreover, if the international travelers test negative on the fourth day, they will be free to get out of the hotel on the fifth day too. The quarantine period, in this case, cut in almost half.

Of course, not everyone would be able to afford to lose these 4 days as well but for those who can, why not take this excuse of quarantine to first rejuvenate yourself in this duration. Get taken care of at the hotel where you don’t have to clean your mess either or be responsible for anyone else. After 4 days of relaxation, you can enjoy the country much better.

Positivity Rate

You may, however, be thinking that even the countries that have gradually begun to open up, are not always welcoming of the green passport especially during COVID. Well, not to worry. Unlike Thailand which is specifying the countries it is welcoming tourists from, Indonesia has introduced a technical filter. All the countries with a positivity ratio of less than 5 percent can travel to Indonesia. And just yesterday, National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) reported that the positivity rate in Pakistan has fallen below 3%.

There is a famous painting in history by the name of ‘The Scream’. In it, a figure has its hands to its head and is letting out a blood-curdling scream. The reason behind this is because the artist, Edvard Munch, saw the sky turn blood red and the river with it. He felt anxiety.
