Toyota Is Investing $100 Million In Pakistan For Local Production Of Hybrid EVs

The Toyota Motor Corporation is making a speedy entry into the electric vehicle industry. It recently announced that it is investing approximately $100 million to develop electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This is going to take eight years to develop. Starting in 2021 for a sustainable future by 2029— is this smart or a miscalculation?

Why Make Special EV Batteries

Toyota said that it aims to reduce the cost of EV batteries. The corporation is trying to reduce the cost by around 30% which is why the investment is so huge. The cost savings is going to be achieved by experimenting with the compartments of a conventional EV battery. Toyota will be reworking the structure of the cells in order to create affordable EV batteries.

Moreover, Toyota’s latest cars are also being made with the same aim in mind. Toyota’s upcoming all-electric SUV Chief Technology Officer Masahiko Maeda announced that the new cars have improved power consumption. That is an indicator of the amount of electricity the car uses per kilometre which will be also reduced by 30% starting with the Toyota bZ4X.

Benefits of EV Batteries

The EV batteries, in which Toyota has invested $100 million, have many benefits. For instance, they can not only store but also supply more power. Moreover, they take less time to charge faster. Additionally, they are less susceptible to catching fire making the cars even safer. These EV’s are also considered a better substitute for lithium-ion batteries which are used commonly in electric vehicles. However, their short service has not allowed them to become the mainstream.

Investing $100 Million in Pakistan

Toyota also recently announced an over $100 million investment in our own country for the local production of hybrid electric vehicles.

The company has announced that the investment will be used for the localization of car-making. The plant expansion and production preparation for the first Hybrid Electric Vehicle to be manufactured in Pakistan. It will be done at the Indus Motor Company Limited (IMC) plant located at Port Qasim, Karachi.

The Premier also applauded Toyota’s investment. He said, “Toyota/Japan has remained the most committed partner for Pakistan even in the most testing times. We value our relationship and Toyota’s trust in Pakistan’s economy and welcome this new investment for Environment-Friendly Hybrid Electric Vehicles.”

Single National Curriculum Attracts Criticism For Gender Discrimination

With the news of Pakistan getting a single national curriculum, the citizens were already divided. There were some who endorsed it because such a step would lessen the disparity emerging through the level of education amongst people. But there were others who found that a single curriculum might hurt the sentiments of the religious minorities in the country. Amongst criticism, the curriculum was introduced in Punjab.

It turns out that it was not just the religious minorities who needed their voice in the curriculum. It has been some time since the curriculum’s introduction, but all of a sudden there was a flurry of tweets on Twitter regarding the books.

People were utterly horrified at not just what was written but also the visuals of the books. They are not completely wrong. It seems that the curriculum developers are manipulating the subconscious; teaching the children what is the right way to be.

A Pakistani man also took to Twitter an image allegedly from the curriculum. According to this tweet, the curriculum was telling how a housewife should spend her time. Interestingly, the curriculum mentions all the household chores that househelp can do. But mentioning it in the book could potentially teach the future youth that there is a set way of life that a housewife needs to have. Deviation from that would tell the youth that a woman is not a good housewife. Deviation could involve something as a basic as a woman assigning a ‘me-time’ for herself.

Some thought that they could manipulate the issue for political motives. Hence, they started sharing how a Sindhi curriculum book has gender equality whereas Federal government led by PTI broadcasts gender discrimination.

The era of foldable phones is back as LG steps into the game of foldable-screen phones, as it plans to compete with Samsung’s technology. Despite the high price and exceptional technology, Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 still suffers from screen crease. However, the LG is finally planning to release a phone with a foldable screen using better technology than Samsung.

LG’s Latest Technology

One of the LG companies, LG Chem, has now developed a new foldable screen for smartphones. This unique foldable screen from LG hopes to fix many of the problems that currently affect foldable technology used by Samsung in its exorbitantly priced Galaxy Fold 3 and Galaxy Fold 2 phones.

The new screen from LG folds like plastic but has a look and feel of glass. The “Real Folding Window” is composed of specially developed coatings compared to tampered glass. According to the reports, brands like Google, Apple, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and others might be getting their screen supply from LG’s latest technology. Sooner or later, foldable phones will be launched by all the major smartphone companies.

Samsung stepped into the game a few years ago; however, it still faces the two most highlighted issues with the Galaxy Fold series. These include the display crease and less durability.

The specifications of Screen

According to the company, the phone can be folded more than 200,000 times before it suffers durability issues. The solution also delivers significant improvements to “fold lines” seen on folding areas of the screen. The material or the coating is applied to both sides of a PET film. This can lead to improvement in its heat resistance and mechanical properties. The layer, however, is only a few dozen micrometers thick.

“Unlike existing polyimide films and tempered glass-type materials, the cover window that applied LG Chem’s new coating technologies will maximize flexibility. While also providing optimized solutions for foldable phones such as making improvements to chronic issues like fold impressions on the connecting part of the screen (sic).” A company spokesperson said.

Production And Launch

LG Chem is hoping to start mass production of the Real Folding Window next year. However, the full-scale production is slated to begin in 2023, around the same time when some major smartphone makers are also expected to launch their foldable phones. Chang Do Ki, VP and Division Leader of Advanced Materials at LG Chem, says the Real Folding Window is a step towards resolving the issues customers find in today’s foldable phones.

They even had an FIR registered against them at the Akbari Gate police station. As part of the legal proceedings, they were required to be present at the court. However, if you are following Saba Qamar on social media you will find that she is is enjoying vacations in Germany.

Failure to appear in the court has resulted in Lahore Court issuing arrest warrant against both, Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed.

[August 2020]: Saba Qamar has recently been making headlines. Ever since she launched her YouTube channel, Saba has been the talk of the town for being vocal about topics that are less talked about in our society. However, this time, Saba recently become the #1 trend on Twitter for other reasons.

Pak Navy Day: Reminiscing About The Mysterious Submarine Ghazi

Pak Navy Day is celebrated on the 8th of September so it is only right to acknowledge the efforts of yet another beloved armed force of the country. And when you talk about giving tribute to Pakistan Navy, how can you not talk about the mysterious submarine Diablo (tah e aab doz Ghazi)? Fighting in the 1971 war, the submarine gave a terrible scare to the archrival, India, that it earned the title Ghazi.

Let’s reminisce about the events of 1971 and talk about the submarine Ghazi’s involvement in it.

Submarine Diablo aka Ghazi

The submarine was called USS Diablo and served in the US Army from 1945 to 1963. From then, she was leased out to Pakistan under the Security Assistance Program (SAP). Diablo served as the only submarine in the 1965 war with India. Following the war, the submarine was actively involved in numerous missions and stayed under Pakistan’s flag until 1971.

Following East Pakistan turning into Bangladesh, there was yet another war with India. In order to restrict India’s attack on the coast, the submarine with codename Ghazi was dispatched even though, at that time, it was only being used for educational purposes by Pak Navy.

At the time of protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, Ghazi answered the call and entered Indian waters. Not only did it layout mines that it was known for, but it also established a scare in the minds of the Indian army to not leave their borders and venture into the Pakistani waters. Near Vishakapatnam, the submarine Ghazi successfully placed the mines and then, stationed itself within the Indian borders.

Much mystery surrounds Ghazi but the fact of the matter is that the Indian Army assumed Ghazi to be stationed there and hence, did not move forward for days. It was not until a fisherman discovered the oil leakage that India realized the submarine had already been destroyed. So, days after its destruction it had the same power fright over the enemy forces, reinforcing its title Ghazi.

Speculations about Ghazi

Indian army claims the destruction happened by their Naval forces. But Pakistani forces say that it was a misfire of missiles. The mystery explanation continues but that makes room for stories like Sci-fi movies like Project Ghazi.

Is it a similar mystery to that of the Bermuda Triangle? Probably. But the martyred Ghazis sure rule over our hearts. They do so not only on Pak Navy Day but every day that we sleep in peace.

BMW’s Latest Luxury Car Is Made Entirely From Recycled Materials

BMW— who hasn’t heard the name? The German luxury car-maker is the dream of all car lovers. As of late, the company is focused on making futuristic cars that are not only completely sustainable but also electric motors. In this quest, they have launched i-Vision Circular, their most marvellous creation to date.

The New Car

BMW presented its latest car, the i-Vision Circular recently. The luxury car model has been developed in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. The company announced that the car will be completely electric and will be created entirely with recyclable materials. Does it feel like you’re living in 2050 yet?

The concept with which the car is built is a new one that the German automobile company has adopted. BMW wants to be the one to lay the foundations of how mobility will look in 2040 in terms of cars. The i-Vision Circular is a compact, luxury four-seater car that has been created from recycled components. Materials like plastic, aluminium, glass, etc. have been used to make it.

Why This Concept?

BMW wants to reduce the use of materials as much as possible because even the making of one car has become unsustainable. Imagine the cost to the environment when thousands are made. They have started to shift to other means to even decorate their car. The company noted, “For example, the logo of the brand on the front and the badge of the vehicle are lasers engraved to avoid the use of additional parts”.

What’s Made of What?

The car is made technologically designed to suit the future ages. However, its aesthetic is also futuristic. The car has a minimalist and futuristic design with a glass roof. Moreover, the seats inside are developed from recyclable plastic while the other parts will be 3D printed. Even the steering wheel, the dash and other interior parts will be entirely 3D printed in one piece.

The BMW company also announced that the batteries of i-Vision Circular are sustainable. They have been created with 100% recyclable materials. As a result, the car will produce greater energy without exhausting any resources. Though the price tag hasn’t been revealed yet, we have an idea simply a kidney won’t do. However, those who believe in this technology and have the bucks to aid their beliefs, will be running to pre-book the car.

In a recent event, he attacked a Canadian restaurant Demetres that apparently discriminated against his wife. However, the truth has come to light and it’s not favouring the YouTuber.

What’s The Back Story?

Sham Idrees took to his Instagram that has over 1.4 million followers. He posted about having “the worst experience” at a restaurant in Canada, Oakville called Demetres. He alleged that they refused to serve people of Sham Idrees’ kind because he came with many women who took hijabs. Moreover, he also films another waitress called Jessica who he accuses to be a racist.

The video also shows police coming to escort Sham Idrees and his gathering out. Idrees make the video viral with emotional messages like “we may be a minority but together we are a force”. He later also posted an IGTV in which he retells the incident apparently with all the proofs.

Problematic Enough?

In the very first video that he puts up, what is problematic is him filming waiters and especially a woman without her consent. It is very obvious that he’s secretly filming the waitress ‘Jessica’. If she really was racist and asking him to leave, why not also include her words in the video? The video actually has a tune going on in the background.

Debunked

Twitter users, however, stood with the restaurant called Demetres. People are debunking the entire situation and calling Sham Idrees out for being a liar and twisting the situation. A Twitter user has shared someone’s comment on social media that exposes Sham Idrees. The woman says that she was witnessing the situation as it played out. Sham Idrees came with a group of 22 people and they were respectfully welcomed and they also ordered food.

Later, however, they kept rearranging the tables which were not allowed due to COVID. The group then started using their blogger privilege to force the management to let them do as they please. The woman says that the waiters were still respectful and gentle. In fact, Sham Idrees and his fellows started harassing and yelling at the waiters. The police was called as a result of that.

Huawei has done a lot to improve their upcoming devices and they don’t compromise on quality. In light of that, a new type of smartphone has just been patented by Huawei. It has some extraordinary features and state-of-the-art technology inside it.

This is one of those moments where we feel like the revival of a company is inevitable. In between, Huawei did decide to work quietly. However, now they intend to make a grand entrance, the much-awaited return. As far as smartphones go, the new patented one goes quite far. It may just stretch beyond the abilities of standard smartphones.

Huawei Innovating

According to sources, the patent has been for a rollable display smartphone. That is right, the company has moved towards rollable smartphones. The entire phone cannot be considered as rollable but its display sure is. This gives the user a lot of room to work in, as well as the ability to pack it up. You don’t want to spend your time carrying around a tablet. Instead, simply roll the display back to the size of a standard smartphone.

Of course, it is only in the patent stage now so it may be time before it hits the market. In accordance with finger gestures, one can control the speed at which the display rolls out. All you have to do is hold the number of fingers mapped on each speed. The rolling concept may not be truly new but the gesture part is. It shows that the company is willing to move forward despite there being obstacles and competition.

Rolling A Smartphone

You can even pull out the device using hand gestures in the air rather than on touch. Huawei may be one of the rare companies that intend to work on such tech. It takes a whole other level of technology to actually bring this to life. We hope to see these kinds of smartphones on the market one day. Having an idea counts a lot. It is okay if an idea does not always make it past execution but we can always hope that it will.

Maybe one day we see people pull out their smartphones like people used to do with cardholders. Just pull the smartphone out and the display rolls out further!

The Madness That Is Pakistan Cricket

When it comes to Pakistan cricket, there is never a dull day in the office for anyone. Recently, for the World T20 squad and the shock departure of the men’s team head coach, Misbah ul Haq and bowling Waqar Younis, Pakistan cricket is doing what Pakistan cricket does best – playing with the fire. And that too, a few weeks before the showdown at the mega event.

On Monday morning, the PCB Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim addressed a press conference at the ever-so popular Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore where he announced the squad for the World T20. He also said that the squad lacks depth is to say water is wet. It is an understatement to say the least.

Some of the obvious names that are missing out from the squad are Faheem Ashraf, who is a terrific all-rounder, Shoaib Malik, an experienced batsman, and Wahab Riaz, who has a superb record at the PSL in Dubai.

One finds it odd to see the names of Azam Khan, Haris Rauf, Asif Ali and Mohammad Nawaz in the squad. Azam Khan has so far failed in international cricket and hasn’t been able to translate his success to the international level. His wicket-keeping is shoddy and doesn’t merit a place in the team on the pretext of a backup wicketkeeper. The same goes for Haris Rauf who has so far very average numbers in international cricket and is known to concede runs at crucial stages.And the less said about Asif Ali, the better.

Having failed to live up to the expectations, despite a long run with the team, Asif’s selection continues to shock everyone, including the man in the picture himself, who must wonder just what’s going on in the mind of the selectors. Asif has played over 50 international games for Pakistan and is yet to win a game for them. He, however, has cost them many.

Nawaz’s selection is surprising because he is a truly ‘bits and pieces’ player who is yet to find his mojo in international cricket. As if selection blunders were not enough, the manner in which the head coach and bowling coach have resigned only indicates one thing: the new boss in Ramiz Raja will not back down until and unless he has achieved what he thinks is appropriate for the team.

Local media is abuzz with reports that both Misbah and Babar Azam, the all-format captain of Pakistan, were unhappy over the selection of Azam Khan, Sohaib Maqsood and Khushdil Shah. Whatever is the case, there is one thing for sure: Pakistan cricket is operating at a level of madness that is unprecedented. And seeing how madness has often driven Pakistan to desirable results, it only means one thing – are Pakistan winning the World T20 later this year?

On Friday evening, a dire accident took place in Lahore. A car fell into a canal and was at the brink of drowning. People were crying out for help. There were five people in the car, including an elderly lady. Haider Ali, an employee at Cheetay, was driving past when he came upon the car. Without a second thought, he dove right into the canal and swam to help the stranded people.

Through his determination, he managed to swim across and save five people. Yes, he saved the elderly lady and four others. Determination like this is something that we should all aim for. There is no doubt that the act is one of bravery and deserves the utmost respect. He deserves no less than a reward for what he has done. Not everyone would have been able to do what he did.

Air Force Day: 8 Brave Female PAF Pilots Who Reached For The Skies

Women have had to struggle quite a lot in terms of achieving their dreams. This is because in our country that is based on patriarchy, in order to exercise power, men would rarely allow women to enter a number of fields. But through constant struggle, women were able to get to where they wanted. Hence, this Air Force Day, we would like to pay tribute to the PAF pilots of the Pakistan Air Force who did not shy away because they were the only female batch mate and made us proud.

1. Ayesha Farooq

Even before Marium Mukhtar, Ayesha Farooq was the first pilot ready to fight for the sanctity of Pakistan. She was also part of the operation, Zarb e Azb, and as part of it, she bombed numerous Taliban hideouts as well in North Waziristan. Being the first fighter pilot, she was the role model of many, including Marium Mukhtar.

2. Saba Khan

Saba Khan belonged to the first batch of female pilots. Earlier, it used to be just an Ayesha Farooq or a Marium Mukhtar amongst numerous male pilots in a batch.

3. Nadia Gul

Nadia Gul was in the same squad as Saba Khan. They were a part of the 36 aviation cadets’ groups. In her mid-thirties now and still part of the airforce, Nadia shared, back when she was 26, that once she even blacked out for a few seconds but soon her survival instincts jumpstarted.

4. Marium Mukhtiar

After Ayesha Farooq, Marium Mukhtiar was the nation’s rising fighter pilot. She was ready to be the proud fighter pilot but achieved martyrdom while being on an operational training mission. Her jet crashed near Mianwali.

5. Mariam Khalil

After rigorous training of 3 and a half years, Mariam Khalil joined Saba Khan and Nadia Gul in an all-male bastion of PAF.

6. Saira Batool

Saira was the fourth member of the Saba Khan’s squad. The airforce pilot belongs to the Hazara community breaking even further barriers for the inspired girls belonging to Hazara.

7. Sharista Baig

Sharista Baig became the first female GD fighter pilot belonging to Gilgit Baltistan. She is the daughter of Col. Mahmud Baig. Her father too is the first GD fighter pilot from Gilgit Baltistan.

8. Kainat Junaid

Daughter of a squadron leader, Kainat is the first fighter pilot from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Marium Mukhtar as her role model, Kainat is all set to conquer the skies.

Much progress is being made on this avenue. In fact, just recently, a daughter of a traffic warden from Karachi was also selected to be part of GD pilot training. So yes, efforts are being made to give women the space to excel. And considering, we were named in Guinness World record as a country that had the first hijabi commercial pilot, women can totally excel and keep making us proud. Hopefully, the next Air Force Day will witness more female pilots in the PAF.

Cargill & Rizq Vow To Create A Hunger-Free Pakistan

Karachi, Pakistan (September 2, 2021): Cargill, the world’s premier agriculture and food processing corporation, has collaborated with Rizq to establish Pakistan’s first-ever Cargill-RizqBank in Lyari Karachi. The Cargill-Rizq ecosystem will work to create a food secure community, reduce food wastage and serve about 200,000 meals annually in the community.

The RizqBanks are storage facilities to save and channelize fresh and dry food. It also empowers and educates the community members and partner agencies with training and workshops. It will contribute with its four key services, RizqDaig, RizqRation, RizqBachao and Rizq Future Generation Program to end food insecurity and hunger in the Lyari.

Under RizqDaiq, food will be distributed within the community on a daily basis. RizqRation will identify and deliver monthly food supplies to food-insecure families. The RizqBachao initiative looks into the collection, storage and distribution of excess food to low-income households. Lastly, the Rizq Future Generation Program, under which volunteer programs are deployed compromising of the youth from schools and universities to support activities of zero waste and a hunger-free Pakistan.

Commenting on the partnership, Imran Nasrullah, President, Cargill Pakistan, said, “Like many developing countries, Pakistan faces a food security crisis where millions of families go to bed hungry every day. The Covid19 pandemic has further exacerbated the situation to alarming levels. Cargill is proud to partner with Rizq in establishing the RizqBank ecosystem which will ensure that no family will ever have to go to sleep hungry.”

Phase Two of the program sees the establishment of the Rizq XChange which is a collaborative effort of different stakeholders to mobilize resources to create a hunger-free nation. The Rizq XChange, backed by its cloud-food banking technology, will connect a consortium of stakeholders which includes (but is not limited to) NGOs, corporations, schools, restaurants, hospitals, and universities as well as volunteer programs from all walks of society to reach verified beneficiaries in real-time through a nationwide network of RizqBanks.

Rizq XChange platform will be a true depiction of connectivity, measurable impact, and transparency of food philanthropy in Pakistan. The establishment of a RizqBank in Lyari, Karachi will effectively serve as a roadmap for interested stakeholders to come together and further create self-sustaining communities across the nation.

IBDP And Its Impact On University Admissions

Scholarly and peer-reviewed research on the IBDP and its impact on university admission rates globally has confirmed for decades that there is a strong correlation between IBDP graduates and their success rates for entering colleges and universities both nationally and internationally (Bunnell, 2015; Lai, Shum, & Zhang, 2014; Wright, Lee & Feng, 2018). Dr. Wootten, HoS at BNI stresses, “IBDP teaching at Beaconhouse Newlands Islamabad is data-driven, student-centered, and delivered in classes with a small student to teacher ratio”.

Decision-makers who reside over selection committee panels of higher education institutions prefer IBDP graduates because they bring qualifications related to critical thinking skills (Resnik, 2018), acquired research techniques including theory building and mixed methods (Fitzgerald, 2015), and a deep understanding of global citizenship and international-mindedness (van Oord, 2018; Walker, Lee, & Bryant, 2015).
