Veteran Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi and her husband noted poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar have caused a bit of a frenzy on social media when the couple announced that they will be visiting Karachi soon.

It has been reported that the duo has been invited by Arts Council to attend a conference to commemorate the poetry of Shabana Azmi’s father, Kaifi Azmi.

While talking to an Indian publication, an office bearer of the Arts Council said:

We have invited Kaifi Azmi’s daughter Shabana Azmi and her husband Javed Akhtar for the event besides some other notable cultural personalities from India.

The conference is all set to be held on February 23 and 24 at the Arts Council and the couple has confirmed to attend.

Fawad Khan Accused By Javed Akhtar for Not Standing Up for Pakistan!

The Secretary of the council said the event will a great platform for Pakistani artist to interact with the actors.

He added:

It is a great opportunity for notable and popular writers, poets and artists from India to interact with their Pakistani counterparts and we are confident the festival will be a success.

This is not the first time Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar will be visiting Pakistan. A few months back, the couple attended the 4th Faiz International Festival and received a warm welcome from Pakistanis.

Hyundai to Commence Vehicle Production in Pakistan by Year-End

Hyundai-Nishat is all set to start its production of vehicle lineup in Pakistan by year end. Reportedly, the commercial production of Hyundai cars manufactured in Pakistan will commence from Faisalabad.

South Korean automotive behemoth, Hyundai, again entered in Pakistan under the name of Hyundai Nishat Motor Private Limited (“HNMPL”). The project is being set up as a joint venture between Nishat Group Companies and one of the leading trading and investment houses of Japan M/S, Sojitz Corporation.

Mian Mansha the founder and CEO of Nishat Group, while talking to a local publication shared the future prospects of the brand. After its inauguration, it is expected that Hyundai-Nishat will roll-out 7,000 units of local production in its first year. It will expand to 30,000 units in the next 5 years.

According to Mian Mansha:

We have plans to increase our production to 30,000 cars in the forthcoming five years

Previously, several Hyundai cars were spotted at the Nishat group-owned Emporium Mall, Lahore.

One of the cars spotted at the mall was the Hyundai Santa Fe. Furthermore, Hyundai has been seen testing hybrid cars of the roads of Lahore as well.

Hyundai Ioniq and Tucson were spotted doing test rounds. Ioniq is available in different countries across the globe including America, Canada, South Korea, and our neighboring country India. The car comes in three different options; hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric.

Aside from Hyundai-Nishat, KIA Lucky Motors Pakistan Limited (KLM) announced that the production of its vehicles would commence in September 2019.

Right now, not everyone has the option to use it. The prototype of the feature was discovered by Jane Wong who shared how it can be done.

You’re not the only one! Starting today, we are launching a feature where you can easily remove your message on Messenger.

According to Wong, users will be limited to how many times they can do this. You will have a 10-minute window to do so.

To see if this feature works, follow the steps below.

  • Log into Messenger and open a chat
  • Hold down your finger on a message you’ve recently sent
  • A pop-up should appear offering the option to “unsend” your message.

This feature first showed up on Facebook sometime after Facebook admitted that it was purging messages sent by Mark Zuckerberg – a feature unavailable to normal users and only for the company’s executives. These included limiting the retention period for Mark’s messages in Messenger.

However, the revelation spark fury among users, who questioned why Facebook’s billionaire boss was allowed to delete messages, but normal users weren’t.

The current Facebook Messenger app lets you delete messages – but it’ll still appear to the recipient(s).

The remove feature will be available on mobile devices powered by the latest versions of Apple or Android software, according to Facebook.

The school has always inculcated the importance of community service and the need to always give back to society in their students.

Saddar Starzz is one such dream which was initiated by The Enterprise Challenge Pakistan, an initiative of Prince’s Trust International Programme and SEED ventures.

It all started when a team of 5 students set out to change the world!

“As we looked for ways to serve the community and solve the large-scale problems of our city for the enterprise challenge, we thought why not start from ‘home’-our own school. Though the impact would not be that great it would be meaningful and close to our heart. ”

” Seeing children caged in apartment buildings around our school and playing on the streets, made us realize that we do not share something we have been blessed with.”

The concept is a three-fold business idea:

• Providing sports facilities for underprivileged children living in Saddar’s apartment buildings that do not have access to sports grounds and will never be given a chance to explore their potential.

• Charging the children a minimal fee which will be added to our school’s fund for the education of children who cannot afford the school fee

• Providing our students a chance to volunteer and contribute community service hours to their own school

Sports has an inherent ability to bring people together; in particular the youth. It encourages participation bridging national, ethnic, social and religious divides and when used as a tool for development, can serve as an impetus for social transformation and change!

The business plan included extensive market research, an operational plan, working out the financial feasibility and in the end putting it all together.

On the evening of the Enterprise Challenge held at the British High Commission, the girls stole the show and bagged the audience awards with a clean sweep. However, their win was just the beginning of their vision!

Enterprise Challenge is an established Prince’s Trust International programme that helps young people aged 13-16 learn the basics of setting up and running a successful business with the help of business mentors and a business simulation game. The programme is also delivered in the U.K. and Jordan to encourage and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.

An established Prince’s Trust International programme, Enterprise Challenge is held every year in partnership with SEED ventures since its launch in 2015.

SEED Ventures is a Social Entrepreneurship & Equity Development organization and investment firm.

Enterprise Challenge is also the largest business challenge for students in Pakistan, inspiring them to devise an entrepreneurial plan with a business simulation game, under the guidance of mentors.

As many as 22,000 students from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Federal region and Gilgit Baltistan participated in the initiative.

Brands like  Jubilee Life Insurance, Engro Foundation, British Council, Sana Safinaz, ZAFA and Avari Group supported the program.

The first ever business center for overseas Pakistanis has been set up in the United Arab Emirate (U.A.E) which will provide entrepreneurial training to aspiring businessmen and rent-free spaces for offices.

The initiative has been launched in collaboration with UAE-based Samana Group of Companies and Government of Pakistan.

Consequently, Pakistanis will be able to avail rent-free spaces in Star Business Centre’s state-of-the-art workspaces in Business Bay and Jumeirah Lake Towers.

Pakistani entrepreneurs and businesses will no longer have to face the difficulty of constructing their offices in Dubai or leasing workspaces.

Individuals who are trying to settle in U.A.E will be easily able to register their companies and began small startups.

The advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Zulfi Bukhari negotiated the launch and stated:

We appreciate the spirit of Samana Group of Companies who have become the first Pakistani business group in Dubai offering rent-free workspaces for three months to new Pakistani entrepreneurs, business persons in Dubai.

A statement issued by the Samana Group of Companies said:

Samsung, Huawei & Nokia to Manufacture Mobile Phones in Pakistan!

Top tech titans and mobile phone manufacturers Samsung, Huawei and Nokia have expressed their wish of starting manufacturing in Pakistan.

This decision comes after the government has decided to formulate the mobile phone manufacturing policy.

The reason why these brands want to start manufacturing here is due to lower wages compared to China, according to Business Recorder.

Pakistan Mobile Manufacturers and representatives of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and EDB held a meeting on 31st January where this information was disclosed.

Furthermore, the representatives shared that if these brands invest in Pakistan, not only will they be investing in the economy, they will also bring in employment opportunities for hundreds.

The labor pay in China is very high, i.e., 5,000 (PKR 105,000) Yuan for unskilled and 20,000 (PKR 420,000) Yuan while rates are cheaper for labor and a dedicated skilled workforce is already present in Pakistan.

PTA Director Noman Khalid added that because of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) registration, the local manufacturing of mobile phones has increased in recent times.

Moreover, he added that the Ministry of Industries and Production (Moi&P) should formulate a policy with relevant stakeholders to encourage the local manufacturers.

According to Mansoor Khan, 23 companies are assembling mobile phones in Pakistan out of which 15 are in Azad Jammu and Kashmir mainly due to tax holiday offered to industry in AJK.

Taking to social media, the actor-turned-host revealed that he is quitting from the channel after serving four years in BOL.

The Bulfbulay famed-star used to host ‘Game Show Aisay Chalay Ga’ on BOL Entertainment.

The actor didn’t cite any reason for his sudden departure from BOL.

Apple is currently planning to decrease the price of its flagship product, the iPhone for the second time in the device’s 12-year history.

The move is an attempt to counter the weaken the sales of iPhone, especially in overseas markets such as China, where a 10% rise in the US Dollar in the past year was witnessed. Thus, this has made the iPhone a lot more expensive.

Tim Cook, Chief Executive Officer of Apple disclosed the plan to cut down prices from 29th January, and also reported a sales drop during the crucial holiday season shopping period for the first time ever.

However, Apple has not announced which countries will face the cut off prices, but resellers in China have already started cutting iPhone prices.

Hajj 2019: Price Increases By over 60%

There will be no more government subsidy for the Hajj pilgrims as per the new Hajj Policy 2019, approved by the Federal Cabinet on Thursday.

Hajj 2019 Pakistan Price Increases by over 60%

According to Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, the Hajj package would now cost:

  • PKR 4, 36,575 for Northern Region
  • PKR 4, 26,575 for Southern regions

For pilgrims who want to avail Qurbani services, the costs will increase by Rs20,000 per category.

Hajj Packages 2019 Prices Likely to Increase

With Qurbani services, the package will now cost:

  • PKR 456,975 for Nothern Region
  • PKR 446,975 for Southern Region

The government scheme will accommodate 107,000 people while more than 76,000 pilgrims will be accommodated through private schemes.

Also, 1.5 percent quota has been reserved to accommodate hardship case.

10,000 seats have been reserved for senior citizens to secure their berth in government Hajj scheme without balloting.

Around 184,210 Pakistani would perform Hajj this year.

The applications for Hajj will be received from February 20.

Imran Khan has directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to provide all the facilities to the intending pilgrims who desire to perform Hajj through Government Hajj Scheme.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would start from Quetta and Faisalabad. This would be the first time in the history that pilgrims of Baluchistan would be airlifted directly from Quetta.

Griffith University has announced that it will waive 100% of its tuition fee for five Pakistani students every year.

The development was announced at meeting between Australian High Commissioner Margaret Adamson and HEC Chairman Dr. Tariq Banuri.

The details on how Pakistani students can apply for the scholarship are yet to be revealed.

Griffith University’s International Student Postgraduate Scholarship

Griffith University also offers postgraduate coursework studies for Pakistani students.

However, this scholarship only covers 10% of tuition fees that will be deducted from postgraduate coursework tuition fees only

A deduction of 10% will be applied in each of the first and second trimesters of the program.

Griffith’s International Distinction Scholarships

Pakistani students can also apply for the varsity’s International Distinction Scholarships.

This scholarship is for international students who are completing an undergraduate degree at Griffith with a cumulative GPA of 6.0 or higher and are looking forward to completing an honor or postgraduate coursework degree at Griffith University.

MCB Bank, one of Pakistan’s largest & most innovative banks, has entered into an agreement with leading Saudi financial institution Bank Al Jazira (Fawri) for the facilitation of remittances to beneficiaries in Pakistan.

Through the strategic partnership, MCB Bank will further facilitate overseas Pakistanis in Saudia Arabia to transfer remittances to Pakistan which can be received through more than 1,350 MCB Bank branches nationwide.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Sami Hamad AlRajhi, Head of Banking Services Group at Fawri, Bank Al Jazira and Mr. Muhammad Naeem Saigol, Division Head – TBD, MCB Bank, in the presence of Mr. Hassan Saleem, Fawri MTO Manager & Business Projects at Bank Al Jazira and Mr. Ziad Aftab Ejaz, Department Head – Home Remittances at MCB Bank at MCB Tower, Karachi.

Speaking about the agreement, Mr. Sami Hamad AlRajhi Head of Banking Services Group at Fawri, Bank Al Jazira said:

Fawri is very excited to enter into an arrangement with MCB Bank Pakistan and together both organizations will work together to make the remittance process streamlined at both the sender’s and receiver’s end.
