Fatima Surayya Bajia, a renowned writer, passed away at the age of 85 in February 2016. But the weight of her personality was such that even after her passing away, Pakistanis remember and reminisce the writer, paying tribute to the legend in their own way. Our way of paying tribute is to ensure that the generation which did not get introduced to her during her lifetime is as informed as the ones who grew watching her works.

1. Born before partition

Bajia was born in 1930. Belonging to Hyderabad India, Bajia migrated with her family at the age of 17. Interesting to note that she never attended a formal school. She was homeschooled and yet, she is counted amongst the most read personalities.

2. Sister of Anwar Maqsood

Anwar Maqsood is still famous for the viral going clips of Loose Talk. Meme creators use his clips to make fun of the current issues and that keeps him introduced to all generations, even genZ.

But little does this generation knows that he is Bajia’s younger brother.

She wrote numerous novels. She was also a drama writer and a playwright. Most of her projects would be hits be it a story that she created or she adapted plays of other writers. Some of those projects are:

4. Fatima Surayya Bajia: Hilal e Imtiaz

In the year 2013, Fatima Surayya became the recipient of Hilal e Imtiaz. Then then-president awarded it to the writer. The award is the third-highest in the country which is awarded to both civilians and military personnel. To be eligible for the award, you need to have made meritorious contributions to the national interests of Pakistan, for world peace, cultural, or other public endeavors.

5. Other Awards

Bajia has been locally as well as globally recognized by numerous entities. Firstly, Pakistan recognized her by giving her the Pride of Performance Award in 1996. Japan awarded her its highest civil award for her works. She was invited to The Big Show on CNBC, alongside Haseena Moin. This tells how known she was in the West as well.

The most recent evidence of her recognition came in 2018 when Google released a doodle on her birthday.

Her story serves as an inspiration to many, and hopefully, the drama writers of today would not ignore it because it is high time, our industry gets the revolution it needs.

The iPhone may have many great features but its Messages app seriously needed improvements. Whenever somebody sent an image in the app and you had to go back to it, it was like going to visit the Bermuda Triangle. However, all that is changing now with the latest iOS updates.

There will be a new Shared with You integration of the Messages app with the Photos app. plus the addition of a real save button for photos available right in the conversation view. The new Messages app make it much simpler to find pictures from your group chats and texts.

How To See Shared Media

The Messages app is basically now going to give you a new option to see the shared media. This new Shared With You feature is coming to many Apple apps such as Messages, Safari, Podcasts, Music, TV, and Photos. What does this mean you ask? It means that now the pictures or videos you send in an iMessage conversation will be available to you in the “For You” tab.

You can see all the media shared with details of who shared them and why. However, note that these are going to just preview. They won’t be saved in your camera roll. In order to save them, long-press on them and tap save.

What To Do If You Don’t Like It

However, if you’d like to remain in the Stone Age and don’t like the update, you can do something about it. If you don’t like the Shared With You feature just turn it off. Go to Settings and then to Messages. Find the Shared With You tab and disable the “Automatic Sharing” altogether. The other way to do that is to just disable sharing with the “Photos” app.

How To Save Photos from Shared With You

Instead of sharing images one by one, you can also save them in a stack. Open the Messages app and go to the conversation you want to take photos from. With iOS 15, you will be able to see a new interface where your photos and videos will be. To save multiple photos together, simply tap the Save button next to them. The save button looks like a downward arrow button. Then say hello to all of them in your library!

This new feature will definitely be a hit amongst all iPhone lovers. How excited are you?

It’s been a long time since Ayesha Sana left the showbiz industry. However, the host turned actress managed to stay in the social media limelight for different reasons. Ever since her video of her shouting and bad-mouthing the TV crew surfaced, she has lost many fans. More so, many reports have been made as the actress kept engaging in different scandals.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Ayesha

The Lahore court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Ayesha Sana. In a case heard by Judge Syed Ali Abbas on Tuesday, the warrant was issued after the actress failed to appear in court.

Her ex-husband, Yousuf Baig filed the case after Ayesha was accused of defaming his family on the internet. According to Yousuf, Ayesha uploaded inappropriate pictures of his wife and his daughter over the internet. She also added unethical videos of the family on the website, which, according to her, “brought disgrace” to the family. In response to the case filed, the court ordered the defendant to appear in the court. However, as she failed to do so non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued against her.

Ayesha Sana’s Previous Cases

The host has also been previously served with an arrest warrant back in 2020 when she was charged with fraud. The police carried out raids in her Lahore and Islamabad residence to arrest her. Ali Moin, a real estate agent, filed the case against the actress who failed to return Rs. 2million borrowed. According to Ali, Ayesha gave her the check, which bounced. He added that the actress was friendly with his family and provided her with money on multiple occasions. Later on, reports suggested that the 47-year-old has taken millions of rupees by defrauding the public.

1. You Can’t Handle Rejection

Being rejected is an essential part of becoming a leader. Everyone gets rejected. However, only true leaders make something out of rejection— they learn from it, take it in their stride and ensure that never happens again. So, if you get stringy and go back in your shell after being rejected, you shouldn’t call yourself a leader.

2. You Insult Co-workers

Being a leader is not about insulting your co-workers or employees in front of everyone. That gives many people false confidence in being powerful however, a true leader never does that. A true leader rebukes in private so as to build a mentor-like relationship with their co-workers and employees.

Many people who have a tendency to make irrational decisions also call themselves a leader. However, they shouldn’t be! Being a leader is all about taking risks but risks are calculated to a great extent always. If you always go on your whim, you do not possess an integral quality of being a leader.

5. You Don’t Believe In Accountability

A leader is always stringent on accountability because they know that if people evade it, law and order will not remain. If someone under your leadership does something wrong and you let them off the hook, you shouldn’t call yourself a leader. Believing in accountability and implementing it is a leader’s duty.

6. You Are Not Inspiring

Last, but not least, inspiration. A leader is brimming with inspiration at all times. Even if their journey wasn’t that inspiring, they always know how to keep their workers inspired and motivated. If you are dull and can never inspire your workers, it’s time to stop calling yourself a leader.

Akhuwat Founder Wins Asia’s “Nobel Prize” For Microfinancing Program

While there is bad, there is also good in this world. Hence, while we do get to hear troubling news like that of Noor Mukadam and the Minar-e-Pakistan incident, every other day Pakistanis surprise us with positive vibes too. Just today, we got to hear about a Pakistani artist showcasing the world’s largest Quran and the six months long Dubai Expo 2020. And now, we hear that Akhuwat Founder, Amjad Saqib has won an award which is the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

Amjad Saqib is a 64-year-old Pakistani who dedicated his life to developing a microfinance progra. By becoming Pakistan’s microfinance pioneer, he has become the winner of the Ramon Magsaysay award. The award was for launching a first of its kind, microfinance program that was beneficial for poor households.

Dr. Saqib, the philanthropist and author, started his venture by the name of Akhuwat, almost twenty years ago. The venture has now become Pakistan’s largest microfinance institution. The point of pride is that the poor Pakistanis who utilize the facility, almost always return the loan, as result, Akhuwat enjoys an almost 100 percent loan repayment rate.

The founder of Akhuwat had started with the idea that he wanted to inspire the belief that goodness can find ways of alleviating poverty.

PM Imran Khan and various other important figured congratulated the man. He called the award, Asia’s highest honor. Appreciating the reason for the award, the PM said that steps like these need to be appreciated as Pakistan moves towards becoming a state based on Riasat e Madina.

Ramon Magsaysay Award is named after a Filipino president who was killed in a plane crash. The yearly awards were established in 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The awardees come from different parts of Asia who show courageous service to the people and dispense pragmatic idealism within a society.

The third season of ‘YOU’ is back, and we are low key terrified of what is about to unfold next.

Netflix dropped the much-awaited trailer for season three of YOU on Monday. The filming for the season was concluded at the start of 2021. However, the season is going to be released on OCT 15 on Netflix. The American psychological thriller is back, and this time, we will be able to see the low-key psychotic couple living their best life in the suburbs. However, the story doesn’t end here. With Love giving birth to a boy and them living as a happy family as Joe has his eyes set on his allegedly next victim who is, “his neighbor.”

‘YOU’ Season 3 Trailer

The new trailer features a cake being baked with a creepy voice-over from Joe. Nonetheless, he seems not so excited over the upcoming birth of his baby boy as he shows concerns regarding him.

Season 2 Recap

Season 2 started as Joe moved to Los Angeles and changed his name to Will. Soon after, he met Love Quinn, and from there, a whirlwind of emotions started. However, it didn’t take long for Quinn to show who she really is as she revealed her past to Joe.

One thing led to another, and they ended up killing a few people in between. Yet the showdown started when they came face to face as Love confronted him for not paying attention to how similar she was to him. As Joe was about to kill Love, she dropped the bomb on him, saying she was pregnant. Joe has a soft spot for children, and he then lets her go, and from there, they start a new chapter in their lives as they move to the suburbs.

However, the story doesn’t end here as the story will be continued, and the psychopathic tendencies of one of the most disturbing couples will be emerging on the screen in season 3. The modern-day Bonnie and Clyde will be back, and we can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

Skittles launched this new flavour ‘Green Apple’ a while ago. First, they rolled it out as part of Skittles originals in which they replaced lime with this. Fans were severely unhappy and wanted their Lime ones back.

Moreover, it is the world’s largest Quran, but it is the first time that the Quran is being presented on a canvas with gold and aluminum-plated script.

Pakistani artist exhibiting the Quran

The Pakistani artist goes by the name Shahid Rassam. Shahid has won numerous international awards for this project that he started five years ago. According to this project, the Quran will be 8.5 feet tall and 6.5 feet wide. Moreover, there will only be 150 words on each page. In total, there are 550 pages of this Quran.

Comparing this project with the one featured in the Guinness World Records, the latter was 6.74 feet tall, 4.11 feet wide. The Quran in the Guinness contained 632 pages and weighed 552.74 kilograms.

Coming back to the project at hand, the artist, Shahid, has shown a willingness to show part of his project at Dubai Expo 2020 that happens over six months. He was developing the project with the help of his team in Karachi. One of Shahid’s team departed that they are being facilitated by a Pakistani businessman based in Dubai, Irfan Mustafa, for this showcasing.

Daraz recently had a panel discussion on financial inclusion in which representatives of two major financial organisations, VISA and HBL joined the team of Daraz. The panel discussion shed light on various strategies to inculcate financial inclusion in Pakistan whilst drawing attention to its importance. Here are the most important takeaways!

The Current Statistics

Financial inclusion generally is of utmost importance for the growth of any country’s economy. However, in a country like Pakistan where women make up 49% of the population, the financial inclusion of women is crucial. Daraz’s data shows that almost 60%-70% of women who signed up as sellers did not have their own bank account.

These statistics are alarming and they are precisely what prompted this discussion. Aggressive strategies to ensure the financial inclusion of women are the need of the hour and VISA and HBL are leading the path.

What Is VISA Doing For Financial Inclusion of Women?

VISA is an international financial organisation that has become one of the top in the respective category. The representative of VISA, Essam El Daly shared what his organisation has been up to. He believes that the alarming statistics are why VISA gives importance to projects that promote financial inclusion for women.

Moreover, Visa has built a network of entrepreneur women so that they can benefit from each other’s experiences. There is also a mentorship program currently running in which capacity building is focused on. Daly shared that financial institutions must become accessible for all and this idea is at the heart of Visa.

HBL’s Strides in Pakistan

HBL’s representative, Shazia Gul, shared the massive strides HBL has been making with regard to female inclusion in finance. She believes this is a basic building block and is critical to pull our country out of poverty and create employment opportunities.

NISA is a project started by HBL which focuses on women’s inclusion in the finance sector. It’s a women market platform that addresses the need for women to be brought to the forefront. NISA encourages women to enter mainstream banking services which are of immense value as women in Pakistan are often denied this.

How Does A Patriarchal Society Effect This?

In our society, it is believed by men and women alike that a male member should only have a bank account. Men have all the assets named after them and they prefer them knowing what transactions their wives have.

However, Shazia Gul pointed that a mindset is not the only thing that we are currently fighting. There are a host of other reasons like lack of education, lack of financial literacy and independence of women at stake. Thus, we have to move beyond them collectively. Every aspect of their lives is more enhanced, more progressive, more convenient, more evolutionary, with access to digital tools and innovative technology. This is what Pakistan strives for, and this is what binds it to the rest of the world.

Photography is one of the most interesting skills that one can pick up or polish. To be able to capture the world through a lens is something that requires patience. If we look at the past decade and even now, DSLR cameras have dominated the market. If a person is a ‘Serious Photographer’, then they are expected to go for these cameras. They offer quality image capture with the most minute detail in the frame. People take years to master this craft and their skills are notable.

However, now it has been noticed that DSLR cameras may be going out of style. After over 20 years of excellence, their peak might have been reached. Yes, that means that something else is coming for the market. While that does sound ominous, there is only good news here. Of course, one cannot expect DSLRs to just disappear suddenly, rather it’s the course of years. So, if an exit has opened up for these cameras, what else is there to look forward to next?

DSLR Replaced By Mirrorless

As the title here mentions, the DSLRs are being seen second to what is known as Mirrorless cameras. The former use a mirror placed within them that uses the reflection from the lens. However, that came with certain downsides. Due to the mirror being present, the lens could only take in light when the shutter is about to click. With the Mirrorless cameras now, as the name suggests, the mirror has been removed. This allows for light to constantly enter, making it possible to capture even more stunning photographs.

It has now been a while since Sony stopped making DSLRs. They decided to let go of the product when they found the benefits of Mirrorless cams. While they may be more expensive, they are definitely lightweight and easy to carry. This is yet another point over the Heavy, Bulky DSLRs which require more upkeep. However, Canon and Nikon have not yet stopped the production of them and it is expected to be quite a while before they do.

Punjab Police To Set Up Anti-Women Harassment & Violence Cell

After the roaring success and popularity of the Punjab Police’s latest new app, they have also made a new cell. After the recent uprise of cases of violence against women, their efforts centered on this have been commendable. However, it is yet to see whether they can live up to it too. The News

Additionally, the Punjab police have decided to establish the anti-women harassment and violence cell in all districts across Punjab. This cell will ensure prompt response received by the police with the estimated time being 15 minutes. Inspector General Punjab Inam Ghani issued orders to make the anti-women harassment and violence cell operational within a week.

These new cells are to further aid the function of the Women Safety App made by the Punjab Police. Without additional special cells as the ones just made, the app can face many logistical issues. This was a vital step to make the app a success. Here’s what they’re doing:

The Anti-women Harassment & Violence Cell

The special cell that they have made will probe into female violence cases. Moreover, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations was given the responsibility to closely monitor the establishment of the cells. Lady officers have also been specially anointed to work as victim support officers in the special cells.

These cells will function under the supervision of CPOs and DPOs according to the provincial police chief. There will also be an awareness campaign to make people aware of what the cells do and why they exist. Additionally, the provincial police chief has also directed the finalisation of arrangements for telephone lines to receive complaints from the citizens.

Why Are The Special Cells Made?

Punjab police chief Inam Ghani recently led the initiative of an application ‘Women Safety App”. This was made to provide immediate response and help to women in emergency situations. All they have to do is press the ‘alert’ button. These rapid developments have come after a number of violent incidents in Lahore alone. The gross assault on a woman at Minar-e-Pakistan by a mob resulted in a social backlash against the police.

Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Inam Ghani also hosted a session for the police. The session was attended by the senior police officers in order to review the steps for mitigating increasing incidents of crime and violence against women.
