Karachi, Sept 29: The Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), and NICVD, the country’s leading institute for cardiovascular diseases, partnered with leading pharma company Ferozsons Laboratories Limited to light up Karachi, the city of lights, in red to celebrate World Heart Day.

To raise awareness and promote heart-healthy activities, Karachi’s iconic landmarks were lit red in support of World Heart Day to signify that the citizens of Karachi and the nation stand with the medical fraternity to reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases in Pakistan. The landmarks being illuminated included NICVD, Frere Hall, KMC Tower, and Ayesha Manzil.

The celebrations started on the night of September 29, when NICVD was illuminated in the presence of leading cardiologists of NICVD. The lighting of the institution was meant to honor the endless sacrifices of the medical community and cardiac professionals who continue to work tirelessly, putting themselves in harm’s way through the pandemic to combat cardiovascular diseases.

Barrister Mr. Murtaza Wahab, Administrator of Karachi, led a heart-health walk within the NICVD, where a joint press conference with the leadership of the Institute was conducted to create awareness about heart-healthy activities that the public can take to prevent heart disease.

To mark the event, Barrister Mr. Murtaza. Wahab said “We want to thank our healthcare heroes for their extraordinary care for patients even during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cardiologists and medical professionals from all fields won the hearts of the nation by putting patients first, despite personal dangers posed to them by the virus. This is an act of bravery and heroism, and this campaign is our small way of thanking our heroes and contributing towards their awareness efforts against heart disease, the country’s deadliest silent killer.”

On the occasion, Executive Director of NICVD Professor Nadeem Qamar said “World heart day every year reminds us of our individual and collective responsibility toward protecting our, our families and our nation’s heart health. Every one of us has a role to play starting from an individual adopting healthy life style. Every role, however small it may seem is an important contributor to our collective response to this rapidly growing epidemic. NICVD being a premier health care institution is well aware of its responsibilities towards cardiac health care at provincial and national level. NICVD stands for state of art cardiac care for all and its services encompass comprehensive multifaceted approach to prevention and treatment of diseases of heart and blood vessels”.

Education should be a top priority for any country to maintain. Despite there being a pandemic, life has flourished online and students are still receiving education. Of course, some things cannot be taught unless practical so students must wait for that. However, anything that can be taught online, is being taught online. In similar news, the Ehsaas Undergraduate Portal has been reopened! It seems that the Government of Pakistan has announced about 50,000 new scholarships!

Yes, these scholarships are intended for the undergraduate domain and students are encouraged to send in the applications. It is always a moment of content when we see the government itself giving out scholarships. It shows that the country is willing to make progress in education. Any country willing to do that is sure to go down as a successful one in history. However, the road is long and hard so persistence is needed.

Ehsaas Portal Reopened

For the academic year 2021-2022, Ehsaas has reopened its U-Grad portal. They intend to receive fresh applications so that it may be seen who qualifies for the scholarships. The scholarship portal will accept applications till November 30th, 2021. Newly admitted students of the fall 2021 session are eligible to apply from any of the 135 HEC recognized public sector universities. One of the conditions for eligibility of application is if the family income is less than Rs.45,000/-

Eligible students can apply through https://ehsaas.hec. gov.pk/. Students who are submitting the applications will have to specify which universities they are applying for. The geographical spread of the program itself extends to all four provinces, as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan. Also, it must be noted that fifty percent of the scholarships are reserved for females.

Education Enhancement

According to further details, the scholarships include a 100% tuition fee as well as a monthly stipend of Rs.4000/-. As part of the entire Ehsaas framework, around 200,000 scholarships will be awarded under the programme in four years. That shows how much dedication the programme authorities have in educating the students. It gives hope to many who wish to exceed and pursue further education but cannot due to financial constraints.

The programme also promotes diversity as everyone can apply for it if they are eligible. Special assistant to P.M on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Senator Dr Sania Nishtar, said,

CSS Results 2021: Here Is The Final List Of Successful Applicants

CSS Competitive Examination, the roadway to enter the bureaucratic circle of Pakistan is by far the most difficult (and competitive) exam in Pakistan. Every year, only a minimal percentage is able to clear the test. This year was no different. FPSC (Federal Public Service Commission) has just announced the CSS results 2021 and only 2.11%, made it.

39,650 Pakistanis applied for the exams and 17,240 chose to appear in the test. However, only 364 people cleared it.

Set theme to ‘Dark’
Now, the system-wide dark theme will be carried over to Chrome and you can have fun with it.

PAA Elects Central Executive Committee Members For 2021-2022

Pakistan Advertising Association (PAA) is one of the most respectable organizations in the country’s advertising industry. The PAA provides a strong foundation of a platform to ensure effective cooperation between the advertising companies. Existing as AAP (Advertising Association of Pakistan) from the 50s, it has played its part in raising the creative standards of the industry.

PAA and its responsibilities

Aside from this broad responsibility, the PAA is also responsible for keeping a strict hold on the advertising message which has to be legal, decent, honest, and truthful. All in all, it leads to mutually beneficial relations of people all around the industry stakeholders, the advertising companies, media organizations, and advertisers.

Therefore, the election of the Executive Committee member becomes extremely important. Every membership application, hence, has to be approved or rejected unanimously.

Central Executive Committee

To form the committee that will carry out these responsibilities for PAA in the year 2021-2022, the election schedule was decided on 6th July 2021. The election commission consisted of three members; Mr. Rizwan Shakoor, Mr. Shabbir Malik, and Mr. Irfan Rafique. The election was to determine 14 members, 6 for the vacant seats, 1 seat for the woman entrepreneur, and 7 office bearers. Expected to be announced on September 29th, the final list comes right on schedule.

There have been many movies that talk about the presence of artificial intelligence. When the terminator first came out in the 80s and became quite a sensation. Recently, we came to found out that the company intends to replicate the human brain onto 3D Chip Networks. This seems quite ahead of anything we might have imagined happening for now. Samsung is certainly making fruitful bounds in their domain and we have yet to see what they come up with. So, let us see what exactly are they up to.

It seems that the leading engineers and scholars from Harvard and Samsung, have gone ahead and published a research paper. This paper talks about the mapping of the human brain onto another surface. The authors hope to create a memory chip that can approximate the unique computing traits of the brain. This means low power, an adaptive environment as well as autonomy and cognition. Even an idea on this could have been considered a fool’s errand some decades ago.

However, now it seems that this could be something big. There is potential in it and we hope to see it go further than ever before. The method itself would include a nanoelectrode array which would enter a large volume of neurons. It becomes challenging to be a part of the society where despite being normal like others, one is ostracized from the society and often face rejection due to the communication barrier. To tackle this challenge, 25-year-old Hassan Ahmad, who is hard of hearing, took to social media to break this barrier by educating people about the use of sign language.

To educate people about sign language, Ahmad has emboldened many people that success doesn’t rely on your physical abilities but your dedication. Ahmad, who has lived 25 years of his life in this society, indicates all the challenges that hard of hearing face.

From the most common words to communicating at the workplace, Ahmad, through his videos, has helped recognize the existence of sign language in Pakistan. He started off with his YouTube channel, where he uploaded videos like other Vloggers, but the only difference was signs instead of words. To help the people not familiar with the signs, he used captions to explain and educate people.

Slowly but effectively, he got his message delivered and made the hard-of-hearing community feel included and well connected. Starting his YouTube channel in 2017, Ahmad now has 3380 subscribers, whereas he could get 19000 followers on Instagram. The quickest and most effective platform for Ahmad turned out to be TikTok.

Ahmad, who joined TikTok in April 2021, gained 125000 followers and around 1 million likes on his videos in just two months before TikTok was banned July 20, 2021, in Pakistan by Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA), reasoning the “continuous presence of inappropriate content on the platform and its failure to take such content down.”

Ahmad reached the mass audience on TikTok and was gaining followers multiple times faster than on the other social media platforms. TikTok is often wrongly criticized for only featuring dance and lip-sync videos in Pakistan. It has allowed Hassan to gather a mass audience and support the deaf communities of Pakistan.

After getting famous, Ahmad got his first show on a local TV channel and became the first Deaf TV host. Later, he also became the brand ambassador for Deaftawk, working for the Deaf to break the communication barrier.

The short-form video app TikTok, in recognition of Deaf Awareness Month, is spotlighting the creators who uplift this community on TikTok. Under TikTok’s initiative to make the app more accessible, it introduced the auto-captions feature that automatically generates subtitles, allowing viewers to read or listen to content.

The platform also encourages the user to use auto-captions as when content is more accessible, it helps reach a larger audience because more people can enjoy the content.

Ahmad is a prime example on this platform, who makes short videos to educate people about the different challenges deaf people face. He highlighted the challenges faced by deaf people at the workplace with a solution on how the people at work can help the deaf people using sign language.

He also educates the viewers about the most common words used in communication to help deaf people understand. From a few Islamic Azkar in sign language to occasion wishes, days, animals, birds, time, and songs in sign language, Ahmad also highlights how the people hard of hearing want to be called or engaged.

When social media is the primary source of reaching the mass audience, Ahmad TikTok seems to be the most effective tool to get the urban population and the rural population too due to the extensive popularity of the platform.

TikTok has faced several bans and restrictions in Pakistan without even knowing about its importance. The content making and creativity of TikTok users are astonishing, keeping in mind that this creativity was one of the ways for middle-class people to mitigate poverty and improving life outcomes.

How To Eat A KitKat? Nestlé Starts A Serious Debate On TikTok

Are you a chocolate fan? More importantly, are you a KitKat fan? Because if you are, the most recent campaign by Wunderman Thompson is surely for you. They have focused the campaign for TikTok and given that the platform only recently celebrated 1 billion users globally, it makes sense.

Called ‘Have a Bite’, the campaign was based on the idea that there are different types of KitKat eaters in the world. Some people nibble at the chocolate bar while others break off the sections on it. But there are some who just bite onto the bar.

But what is the right way?

This debate had been an ongoing issue with each category assuming they were on the right. Nestle decided to officially acknowledge the debate. The company had KitKat Australia and New Zealand run polls on various social media platforms. Within 48 hours of it, the official hashtag #rulebreak had 4.3 million views across TikTok and Instagram.

Extremely famous TikTok stars such as @milligram96, @rybkatwinsofficial, and @tomford19 were seen using the hashtag #rulebreak.

João Braga, the chief creative officer at Wunderman Thompson, said, “As Australia’s favourite chocolate bar, we know that people have some serious love for the iconic treat, but we wanted to discover new ways to engage with the fanbase online. What better way to do this than by jumping into the heartfelt and passionate debate over the true, right and ‘correct’ way to eat a KitKat.”

The debate overtook other platforms too

TikTok stars were the major highlight of the campaign but other celebrities were also a part of it. Famous Australian actor Michael Caton dressed as a wizard, was seen biting on the chocolate bar as a whole and then asked the audience, “Is this wrong?”

The ensuing debate had morning shows cashing on the hype as well with the hosts showing their own way of ‘having a bite’.

Joyce Tan, Nestlé head of marketing, said: “We knew it was time to finally weigh in on the conversation regarding how to properly eat a KitKat and acknowledge the weird and wonderful ways Aussies eat theirs.”

Why though?

It turns out that the campaign is to help introduce a limited-edition candy bar. The product does not require you to snap like you have to for a KitKat bar.

The associate creative directors Simon Koay said:

“Rather than trying to engineer a discussion from scratch, use social to shoehorn a brand message or kickstart the next branded dance craze, we just fed into the existing debate.”

Another associate creative director, Steven Hey said:

“With such strong equity built into the product, it gives people a kick to mess with it and make it their own.”
