It seems like Squid Game fever is not going to die out anytime soon. People can’t get enough of the record-breaking Netflix original, it has gripped viewers worldwide since its release. Memes and videos have flooded social media platforms, and some have organized wholesome events to bring their thrills to life. Now, the Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is organizing a reenactment of the games seen in the Netflix series.

The Korean Cultural Center in the UAE is organizing a reenactment of the games seen in the Netflix series for two teams of 15 participants. The event will be held in two sessions on October 12 at the Korean Cultural Centre Abu Dhabi office.
The center’s main page stated that four out of the seven games seen in the Netflix series would be played during the event. These include the “Red Light, Green Light” and “Dalgona Candy” challenges, both of which spawned trends on TikTok. Players would also get to try their hand at the “Marbles” and “Ddakji” (paper-flipping) games seen in the series.

Nam Chan-woo, the UAE Korean Cultural Center’s director, said,
“Just as K-Pop gained worldwide popularity through YouTube in the 2010s, I think platforms such as Netflix would be a channel for the global spread of Korean video content such as dramas and movies.”
The Catch?
While the real-life version is murder-free (thank God), each winner is expected to be given a customized green tracksuit. Sadly, there’s no prize money and no dollar bills in the piggy bank. The eliminated players would get to watch the rest of the games from the sidelines. The center’s games are expected to be held in two-hour, tournament-style sessions.
To apply to join the UAE’s version of “Squid Game,” applicants must fill out a form. The form will include three questions that test them on their basic knowledge of the Netflix show. Thankfully, applicants didn’t have to run the gauntlet of being slapped by a game recruiter (no matter how cute) multiple times just to get invited to the games. However, only UAE residents are eligible to compete.

The Crime Caught
The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recently arrested a doctor who misused his authority in Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital. The doctor was reported to be filming obscene videos of nurses and female doctors in the hospitals while they were doing their duty. The doctor is named Dr. Haris and he was reported by someone to be blackmailing female doctors and nurses. Following that, there was a raid at the hospital during which the police got their hands on the footage.

The police have also reported that Dr. Haris would film nurses and lady doctors by intoxicating them. Thereafter, he would manipulate them and make obscene videos while they were at their most vulnerable. The FIA officials have carried out an action against those involved in aiding and abetting Dr. Haris.
Similar Recent Incidents
In the middle of September, the FIA was involved in another such case. The FIA arrested a man from Hyderabad who was accused of harassing a girl by uploading her immoral videos on social media. These videos are either taken by hacking the women’s social media, by stealing their phones, or by manipulating them in real life.
The FIA also reported that the said person in this case blackmailed the girl in another way. The accused resorted to recording inappropriate videos of the girl by installing a hidden camera in her washroom. Through this, he then proceeded to blackmail her. Moreover, the man then made a fake social media account and published it so it goes viral.
The rise of said cases points to a growing invasion of privacy mentality amongst Pakistani men. It is also happening because of the growing accessibility to technology such as hidden cameras which are really undetectable. It is hopeful to see FIA officials work around the clock and protect women in such cases however, the prevalence of these cases is beyond concerning. To what extent can we protect ourselves?

Recently, Indonesia announced that they will be allowing international visitors from October 14th. People who had been delaying their travel plan and saving up during lockdowns and work-from-home can now totally book the first available flight to Bali.
Earlier, the country’s government had mentioned how the travelers will have to quarantine for 8 days. It did not sit well with travelers who would have to pay huge amounts to the hotel for the days were not exploring. To accommodate them, Indonesia has updated the rules. Now, the quarantine is for 5 days. Moreover, if the international travelers test negative on the fourth day, they will be free to get out of the hotel on the fifth day too. The quarantine period, in this case, cut in almost half.

All the countries with a positivity ratio of less than 5 percent can travel to Indonesia. And just yesterday, National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) reported that the positivity rate in Pakistan has fallen below 3%.

1. Relativity of Escher + La Muralla Roja by Ricardo Bofill
Relativity is a famous illustration by Dutch Artist, MC Escher. In it, the concept of gravity does not exist and stairways are connected to each other. Additionally, the figures in the entire lithography have identical faces and pose no difference.

There is a famous painting in history by the name of ‘The Scream’. In it, a figure has its hands to its head and is letting out a blood-curdling scream. The reason behind this is because the artist, Edvard Munch, saw the sky turn blood red and the river with it. He felt anxiety.

3. Rothschild’s Surrealist Ball (Squid Game Episode 7)
This was a known festivity in history where people showed up in masks. Quite a lot of famous people were present, we could call them VIPs. They were wearing animal masks, either of a deer or of a lion. It was quite a famous ball arranged by Marie-Hélène de Rothschild.

The incident happened back in 2018 in India. While the gist of the season was a good one, that we need to have a sociological revamp; we should stop with the concept of house of secrets (ghar ki baat ghar me rakhna) to avoid such future horrifying incidents. But given how the Pakistani drama industry is already glorifying suicide, is it something our country should give the hype to? What if it motivates weak-minded people to follow suit?
Plus, we are no stranger to horrifying incidents of fathers throwing their children in sewage channels with the intention to kill.
While we do need to start conversations that were hinted at in the season, we definitely need to stop watching content that will push us further down the rabbit hole.
Moral conversation aside about how this may give ideas to potential suicidals on how to blame supernatural and psychological causes for their actions, the only mysterious part was probably the concept; The 11 deaths, 11 pipes, 11 windows. Other than that, it was just a drag. Same story being repeated by the police, neighbour, journalist, crime reporter, and even psychologists. Probably someone incredibly psyched about documentaries should watch it. If you are more of a dramatic person, watch Midnight Mass.

Riders will be able to top-up their balance with Easypaisa, and use it to pay for rides without the need of exchanging physical cash.
While currently Uber offers the option of making payments via cash and Debit/Credit cards, this new facility of cashless transactions opens its gates to almost 10 million Easypaisa App users. Uber Cash not only minimizes the risk of fraudulent transactions, it also adds value to Uber’s global safety campaign, aimed to curb the risk of Covid-19 infections, by limiting unnecessary physical contact.

Coca-Cola is a huge company which means it is neither feasible nor advisable for them to change their logo every day. The redesigned logo essentially features the traditional Coca-Cola logo, however, it is slightly curved. The design is meant to show the logo wrapped around something, but what? PepsiCo and Aquafina have come up with an amazing endeavor at Expo 2020 to quench your thirst with their smart drinking solutions. You can now refill your water bottle from seven water stations that have been set up at the site. This will not only allow adequate water consumption but will also help with sustainability.
The Drop
The Drop looks like a giant droplet of water, and it is located in the Sustainability District. While focussing on eco-friendly water consumption, similar stations are set up in the Terra Pavilion and Sports Zone.
The building is an installation made with 41,000 reusable aluminum cans, which is the main attraction of the building. An automated water dispenser allows people to refill their bottles with the water of their choice, plain or carbonated. The number of refills is unlimited, and you can also buy reusable stainless steel flasks to reduce plastic consumption.

“It encourages people to drink water. As soon as you make the hydration process fun, it gets people involved and gets them to drink more water,” said Merve Cetinturk, project manager at PepsiCo.
The Aquafina Water Station is all about the environment. This smart water experience allows the customers to customize water in a unique way. First, choose between still or sparkling water. Then select your water flavor. You can include a variety of flavors like strawberry, lime, peach, and raspberry-lime. In addition to the flavor, you also get to control the temperate, carbonation level (if you chose sparkling water), and flavor intensity. With a QR-enabled reusable bottle, you can also sync your bottle at any other Aquafina Water Station to get your refill exactly the way you like it.
Speaking about how the process helps environmental goals and ties with Expo’s theme of sustainability, Cetinturk said: “You are eliminating the usage of plastic bottles, you are encouraging people to reuse more and more.”
“It also helps people achieve their daily water intake targets. The idea is similar to counting your steps for fitness purposes,” she added.

PTA took to their official Twitter account the news of the fault and provided the reasoning for it as well. It turns out that there was a fault in the submarine cable. The submarine cable was near Fujairah, UAE. Repair work was immediately initiated on the faulty part of the cable. According to PTA, almost an hour ago, the relevant authorities were still working on the service to make it fully operational.

In 2020, it conducted a live session on social media where people could send in questions about the illness and get them answered by a doctor. This year, they took to social media to tell people they NEED to get checked. Conveying information is something you can do only for so long. With the statistics on the rise, its time to get people diagnosed.

The electronics brand, Dawlance also registered its effort in directing people’s attention towards the cause. They showered their head office in Karachi in pink light, the colour that has become associated with breast cancer awareness.

Pearl Continental Peshawar lit up in pink to acknowledge the danger of breast cancer. When a huge building goes pink, it is bound to get the attention of people who would look up the reason. Just maybe this would lead to people being convinced to get diagnosed. And as you know, early diagnosis will lead to early treatment.
Just like PC Peshawar, the Bank of Punjab also celebrated Pinktober, the month dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. Not just for the customers, but realizing the importance of the issue, they decided to run the awareness campaign in-house as well. Hence, while a customer or a potential customer might see the pink light washing over the buildings, they laced the offices with pink balloons too.
While the whole of October is dedicated to Breast Cancer awareness, Sindh Bank decided to go a step further. The bank celebrated 8th October as Breast Cancer Awareness day. They decorated the entire office in shades of pink.

The recent turn of events may become a strong justification for that.
In alleged leaked audio, Ayesha and her fiance are having a discussion on the amount they should extort from the culprits. Rambo can be heard reminding Ayesha that the 7 culprits identified, all belong to poor communities so how much money should be taken from them. To that, Ayesha replied, they might not be able to give more than PKR 5 lacs each. Hear it for yourself:

[Update 8th October 2021]: After more than a month of the Minar e Pakistan incident, more details are surfacing. Ayesha Akram, who was victim-blamed for quite some time on why she even went to the location on Independence Day has revealed an astonishing detail. As it turns out, the TikTok star, Ayesha, did not just get up and decided to go to Iqbal Park. In fact, she was blackmailed to go there.
For the past two years, a gang of 13 criminals was blackmailing her by leveraging pictures in which she was not completely dressed. Using those same pictures, she was told to come to Minar-e-Pakistan where the 13 gang members and other people started groping and assaulting her.
DIG Shariq Jamal Khan has instructed teams to capture the main accused amongst the 13 member gang. Following the orders, Lari Adda investigation police attempted to capture TikToker Badshah in Rawalpindi. The raid failed since the accused had already run away.
[Update 20th August 2021]: While the provincial capital of Punjab may have seen an exponential development in infrastructure and facilities, it is clear that they have lost the sense of humanity.
When Ayesha went to Minar e Pakistan to shoot a video of any nature whatsoever, FOUR HUNDRED men started assaulting and groping her. The triggering video showed her screaming as those horrible men threw her around. In a statement to a local news channel, she said that they yanked at her earrings and tore her clothes. “They jostled and threw me into the air as if I were a toy or have come from some other world,” she said. The men also snatched her purse, mobile, even her bracelet. It went on, she says, for almost three hours. Exhausted at one point, she lost consciousness so she does not remember if the police came to her rescue or ignored her.
But the dolphin squad, Zaman Qureshi claims that he did. Qureshi says that the moment he was made aware of the incident, he left to save Ayesha. But because the huge crowd, courtesy of Independence Day obstructed his path, it took him and his colleagues thirty minutes to get to the location. He further states that by the time they got there, Ayesha’s clothes were completely torn apart and she was unconscious. It took the police thirty minutes to reach the site but it was already 3 hours too late.
Human rights activist, Hassaan Niazi, meanwhile, has taken to Twitter explaining the role the police played, or rather not played, in the matter. Considering it was a Lahore policeman who saved Ayesha, the SP City must have been made aware of it as well. Hassaan Niazi claims that the SP knew but he did not let her register the FIR. In fact, the victim was sent home.
SP City Hasan Jehangir Wattoo knew that tiktoker was harassed yet he didn’t register the FIR. Instead TIKTOKER was pressurised to go home without pursuing her case. She even called 15. She was 5mins drive from tibbi thana. Why is SP city not suspended. #minarepakistanincident
[17th August 2021]: After a series of harrowing cases of violence against women, a new one has emerged and is going viral. Watch the video at your own risk as it is not for the faint-hearted. The terrible case happened in daylight at one of the most popular spots in Lahore on “independence day”.
The incident occurred on the 14th of August at Minar-e-Pakistan. The monument standing tall to commemorate Pakistan witnessed the worst of scenarios as a woman was preyed upon. A young girl is seen in the video trying to protect herself and is trying to get into a fetal position.

There seems to be a man accompanying her who is trying to pick her up and take her away. However, what is most traumatising and simply terrifying to watch is other men. Hundreds of men, acting worse than animals, are fighting to get to her. They are groping her, snatching her, and treating her like a free meal.

Lahore police have immediately registered a case against hundreds of unidentified persons. They have been charged for assaulting and stealing from a female TikToker and her companions. In the registered FIR the complainant stated details of the incident. She reported that she, along with six companions, was filming a video near Minar-e-Pakistan on Independence Day. Out of nowhere, 300-400 people “attacked” her.
The Lahore DIG Operations Sajid Kiyani has ordered the superintendent of police (SP) to take “immediate legal action” against the suspects.“The suspects should be traced with the help of the footage,” said the police officers in the report.
The complainant said that she and her friends tried to escape the crowd. The guards also opened the gate to the enclosure after seeing the situation. However, the crowd was huge and people were blocking the gate too. Moreover, after seeing the crowd, more people started coming towards her. The men who mishandled her were so violent that their actions also tore her clothes. She said many people tried to help her but the crowd was too huge. Men, in fact, also kept throwing her in the air.
