The chances of virality of a random piece of content have increased over the past few years. People have turned into overnight celebrities due to this changing shift of internet culture. This time around, leaked footage of 15 McDonald’s Food Delivery Riders has been circulating online – leaving our desi people brim with growing curiosity and hunger.
Basically, the video footage shows a group of McDonald’s Food Delivery Riders crowded outside a house in Karachi’s DHA vicinity. The media was initially shared into food-related groups from where it caught immediate attention and left netizens into a frenzy. Everyone had a different take on the situation – while many thought it was some sort of a glitch, others believed that the food was ordered by a hungry fellow to savour over the weekend and some even considered the possibility of a new deal being introduced.
What do you think happened?
The only thing we know for sure right now is that our people just love masala – either in food or life in general. This never-ending appetite keeps them going!
Superior University has organized an extensive campaign on breast cancer awareness in the month of October which is globally associated with the increasing risk of breast cancer among women. Superior University is an institute widely known for its great contributions for community and national causes. Superior students are also being trained and groomed with a greater sense of making significant impact in the lives of fellow beings. Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Center for Entrepreneurship Development (CMACED) with its flagship Social Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) has been running a rigorous campaign for breast cancer awareness for many consecutive years as a social responsibility and play active role to save precious lives of women in the country.
The whole university campus has been lighten up with fascinating pink lights, while extensive series of awareness sessions, seminars, walk, screening and free camps is going to be held.
Breast cancer is a fatal yet curable disease, spreading fast among women around the world and particularly with a higher risk factor among Pakistani women. The ironic connotation of taboos associated with discussion about women’s sexual health and breast cancer has resultantly severed the risk of the disease.
Another terrifying fact is that 25% increase in breast cancer cases has been recorded among women less than 40 years of age in Pakistan.More treacherous part is that early breast cancer is silent and due to that, neglecting a lump or a delay in seeking help takes the problem to a serious stage or even the point of no return. It is also notable that only 10 to 30% of the cases trace back to hereditary causes while more than 70% of the cases erupt without any genetic reason.
These numbers call for a dire need of attention towards awareness and emphasis on precautions among women including the young population in particular. The hope also lies in a fact that nearly 80% of breast cancer patients survive every year. It reveals that if monitored with a keen eye, the disease can be caught soon and prevented easily. However, for that, self-examination, timely screening and overall awareness is the prerequisite.
Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is the most recommended precaution to trace the malignancy of breast cancer. To advocate the need of self-examination and learn its right procedure, Pink Ribbon and Chughtai Lab has planned an exclusive seminar for girl students in Superior University which is being delivered by a seasoned screening expert.
An awareness walk is going to be held across the university premises while free screening facility is also being ensured with a collaboration between Superior University, Chughtai Lab and the Pink Ribbon. It is hoped that Superior University’s contribution in this cause save precious lives with the power of greater awareness, counseling and procedural guidance for treatment.
Spooky stories are the highlight of any trip. You travel to Turkey, or you travel to Gorakh; if you return and do not have horror stories to recount, then did you even travel? And where would you encounter the most horror stories? In the abandoned areas or forever uninhabited lands. If you remember, in our geography books, we have studied quite a lot how Balochistan is the biggest province of the country and yet, the least populated. Today’s spooky story is about that very province that is relatively low on population.
Famous hotel in Balochistan
Overlooking the sea, the famous hotel in Balochistan provides the best scenery to the people staying there. While the tourists would not dare step outside due to the dark and just not a single other concrete structure, they do go for strolls on the beach after sunset and even late at night. But with the housekeeping staff and other guests in the hotel, anyone would consider the hotel to be the safest.
Night Stay
Our source, ignorant of the fact that anything supernatural could be in that place, recently went to Balochistan. Traveling with four companions, he had to share a room with one, while 3 had a room to themselves. Our primary source, let’s call him A, says that he sat with his roommate out in the lobby. They talked about their next day’s itinerary, after which the roommate told him he would be going to their companions’ room to check if they have some snacks.
Only five minutes later, the roommate returned, and they entered the room together. This time the roommate was not talking. He had his hoodied on and silently entered the room. ‘A’ asked the roommate to shut off the television but keep the lights on, and he quickly went to sleep on the mattress on the floor.
The spooky story
Late night, A woke up. It was 3:15 am. He saw the TV was off as well as all the lights. And his roommate was snoring loudly on the bed. Wanting to tease him later, A tried to record the snoring, but the phone would not pick up any sound. So he sent him a text message hoping that when he gets up, he would reply.
The reply came instantly.
The roommate was out on the terrace of his friends’ room looking at the sea and having late-night snacks. He even sent a picture.
Afraid that reacting now could lead to the entity, whatever it was, knowing he is scared, he chose to keep lying there, hearing snores of someone who wasn’t even there. By 3:30, the door opened, and so did the lights; his roommate walked in!

Travel can be quite a refreshing activity. If a person feels like they want to take a break from their routine, they can always go and travel. Of course, that does not always have to be costly, rather can be done on the road or the train as well. It depends on the budget and the willingness of the individual on where they wish to go. If they want to go, they can just run to the airport and grab a PIA or an Airblue plane to their destination.
So, we have gotten some news regarding travel. It seems that PIA has just announced some new fares for a particular destination. If they are as reasonable as they can be seen, travel to that place can be done quite often. One does not have to think quite a lot before hopping on a plane. So, what is this deal that is gaining everyone’s attention?
The destination that is being discussed here is Ras Al Khaimah. This location is considered as part of the United Arab Emirates and now one can travel there using PIA for quite a reasonable fare. According to the advertisement that they posted, airfare can be as low as AED 100. That is equivalent to Rs.4,650/- which is more reasonable than anything we have seen so far. We did come to hear that Airblue has made travel cheaper but that deal seems to have expired now.
This is cheap, even more than the Airblue one because this is international travel. How many times have you been outside Pakistan or thought of being with an Rs.10,000/- return ticket? The airfare to Lahore from Karachi, without any discount, is more than Rs.12,000/- However, there are a few conditions that must be fulfilled when undertaking this travel.
Yes! You read it correct. It starts from only AED 💯. So book your tickets now to and from #RasAlKhaimah 🇦🇪and enjoy amazing introductory fares. For more details call #PIA Call Centre at 111 786 786 or visit our website https://t.co/zzPi4NyCFApic.twitter.com/4iEATvXvZv
Firstly, covid vaccination is necessary before embarking on this journey. So, make sure that you have your card with you, along with the passport number on it. Additionally, you need to have a negative PCR test result within 72 hours of travelling. Individuals who are under 18, and are travelling to Pakistan need not have a certificate. Apart from that, individuals from Ras Al Khaimah, aged between 15-18, can roam without a certificate till October 31st.
That said, flights are currently taking off and landing in Islamabad as well as planning is being done for three other major cities. These include Karachi and Lahore as well. Do check these out if you wish to travel to that place.
‘You’ fans are in for a big treat as the show gets renewed for season 4 ahead of the Season 3 premiere.
Season 4 Release Date
The release date is currently unknown, but we estimate it will probably come out in late 2022. The show’s past release dates hold a specific pattern. The first season of You dropped on Netflix in December 2018. Season 2 followed in December 2019. Unfortunately, Season 3 took a bit longer and didn’t arrive until October 2021. However, it was understandable; production might have gotten stalled due to COVID.
Season 4 Trailer
While the network released a short trailer of Season 4, it did not include any new footage but rather a mix of scenes from Seasons 1 to 3. With no new clues to go off, it is unknown what Season 4 will entail. However, going off the show’s history, it could follow the storyline of Caroline Kepnes’ upcoming novel, which is currently untitled.
The words “for you” are repeated before a message ‘4 You’ appears on the screen. This message turns into ‘You 4’, confirming the fourth season is on the way.
At this moment in time, it is too early to say when the new season will arrive, but it is likely to be in late 2022.
Since the third season in the installment is releasing today, here is a rundown of everything we can expect in season 3. As the trailer shows, we will be able to see some more madness of Love and Joe.
In Season 3, Joe and Love are now married and raising their baby. They have moved to the Northern California enclave of Madre Linda, where they’re surrounded by privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers, and Insta-famous biohackers. Joe is committed to his new role as a husband and dad but fears Love’s lethal impulsiveness. At the same time, they try to juggle their duties as being parents take a drastic turn, and they end up doing bad things Again!
Western ideology, in recent times, have began appearing all over the world. Concepts such as atheism, feminism, toxicity, have spread all over. However, these words belong to the English language. These words were formed to define the experiences of the people living in that particular culture. While the words can be uttered in Pakistan too, can we really explain the experiences of Pakistanis through these words until they are culturally appropriated?
With the world having become a global village, the space between continents has contracted. The language spoken in a certain country is accessible and spoken with ease, thousands of miles away. While we may be able to adapt the speaking style and words, does it mean that that language can be completely embraced in the other land? Looking at this science, would Pakistan completely embrace English? For it to be completely embraced, everyone needs to be at the same level of understanding the language. But can they really do that if they have not lived in the West and lived through the experience the western culture sent their way?
Image Source: AP Photo Peter Kramer
Scattered understanding of western ideology
Considering the words are born from the linguistics of another culture, another language, as it comes to people of a different culture, how much could they relate to it. For instance, there was a time almost everyone would just call themselves atheists because that was a word they learnt and it had to do something with the lack of a higher being. However, here is the thing; they later realized they wanted to be called agnostics.
Atheist is when “a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God.”
Agnostic is when “a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God.”
Feminism
This is the same time the word feminism entered the culture too. Now, the word feminism is used for different fights in the West because their experiences are different. But when we began using the same word to define the Aurat March and how our women get killed for the simplest of matters, we saw ultimate backlash. Why? Because the opposite party thought we were fighting for what the western feminists were fighting for.
Source: Twitter
So the question is; is scattered understanding of western ideology really making us a true believer of it? Or are we compromising on our existing fights because of it?

“Take the Korean pavilion. A customer will assume it’s a spinning dice. Nevertheless, it has a narrative behind it. Something like man pavilion is constructed in the form of a frankincense tree, which is notable for Oman. There can also be an actual frankincense tree at entrance of the pavilion.”
The Turkmenistan pavilion has five horse sculptures on the entrance. However, few folks would possibly know that it results from a horse being the nation’s nationwide animal.
The strolling tour begins on the gates of the thematic pavilions and ends at Al Wasl Plaza, where guests can study just a few tidbits concerning the beating heart of the Expo 2020 website.

Obviously, the Pakistani crowd became rowdy in the comments with excitement. They all were happy to see their icon come to their country. Moreover, it is always exciting to see someone so influential change perceptions of your country. Have a look at the reactions:

Iqra Aziz is one of the top-performing actors of Pakistan at the moment. The actress has also made her fans because of her bubbly and happy-go-lucky personality all the time. She just gave birth to her first baby and that obviously has an impact on your physical appearance. However, to change this much is unbelievable. There’s something unusual here and netizens have put their finger on it!
Something Unusual?
The actress recently did a shoot for Kanwal Malik’s festive unstitched collection which is sight for sore eyes. Perhaps maroon is Iqra Aziz’s colour because the actress simply looks resplendent. Decked in a fancy outfit with diamond-imitation jewellery, she looks incredible. However, netizens couldn’t help but think that something was wrong with the photos. It won’t stand out to the passive eye, have a careful look:
This looks like an undesirable cross between too much editing of the photos and perhaps lip fillers. Though Iqra Aziz has not gone under the needle yet, it might be that this is just a case of bad photoshopping. Iqra Aziz’s face is thinned out. Her nose is made more slender. The lips are definitely fuller and the eyes are made wider.
All of this results in Iqra Aziz visibly looking unlike herself and looking more like a version of Angelina Jolie. The actress is beautiful as it is, why photoshop this much?
Netizens are as sharp as critics come. They immediately picked up on this and began commenting that underneath the photos. There are jokes, there are theories and there are disses— when the critics rain, they pour. Have a look at how Iqra Aziz’s shoot images were dissected:
Why The Photoshop?
Yes, in shoot pictures photoshop can be necessary to adjust lighting and colours and just make the picture look lovely. However, it is not necessary at all to change the features of the model. Doing so, especially on a famous figure, will not enhance your picture at all. Rather, everybody will be able to point that out as people know what Iqra Aziz’s face looks like— this is not her!
However, Kanwal Malik is also undoubtedly getting publicity for her. Her clothes are reaching far and wide in the midst of all this and she might find many who like them also. So does this work?

Lays Wavy’s latest flavor is so hot that it is setting billboards across Lahore on fire – quite literally. With its latest out-of-home campaign, Lays is definitely giving its competitors a run for their money. In this era of hyper-commercialization, it is becoming increasingly difficult for brands to stand out from the rest.
Brands and agencies are more focused on pushing forward their own profit-driven motives, instead of taking into consideration what consumers would want to see. Amidst this marketing chaos, Lays partnered with Blaze and adopted an innovative approach, which provided the audience an immersive “Flaming Hot” experience.
The campaign was definitely a refreshing sight for sore eyes for people stuck in Lahore’s dreaded traffic jams. The faux flames contributed to this truly engaging visual experience.
You can also experience this 360-degree visual treat on Cavalry Bridge and DHA Ghora Chowk, where the advertisement overload makes it almost impossible for the passerby to concentrate on one and the brand to stand out.
Fitbit is a brand that is quite famous in the smartwatch domain. Whether you are a fan of analog or digital watches, this company can get you anything. If you love how the sleek design of the watch feels, you can always go for their ‘Sense’ series. Here, we have yet another Fitbit smartwatch with us today. It is considered one of the best smartwatches in the whole world and not many come close. We are talking about the Luxe. To add a cherry on top, the Luxe model is going to get two new features now.
This means that the company took something great, and made it even better. Yes, that is right. The Luxe is now something of a tier-1 watch. A lot of the brands are still trying to come up with features that can try to match the performance of this company. So, let us dive into the details of the two features.
According to sources, the features are being borrowed from an already existing watch; Fitbit Charge 5. The first feature is an always-on display. It is also referred to as an infinity display and it can essentially run for a long time. You don’t have to worry about battery power or charge with this display. Instead of raising a hand to check every time, this display will be there indefinitely. Additionally, it even looks cool!
The second feature that we are expecting to see is the blood oxygen saturation monitor. Now, this is something that is rare in smartwatches. Fitbot has certainly broken ground with this one, as it is a highly premium feature. However, this will not monitor your levels throughout the day, only when you are asleep. When you wake up, you can check your levels. It cannot be used to diagnose medical conditions but if your level drops at night, you can always consult your doctor.

Moving Ahead
Fitt has certainly been making bounds in their domain. The company is moving forward at a brisk pace and is only going higher from here. We hope that the Fitbit Luxe has much to see in this area and attracts a lot of customers.
Accidents can happen anywhere. That may not be a marker of incompetency but not having alternate routes about it does show your capability. The recent accident which shows competent or not such competent behaviour happened at Lahore Airport. DHL Plane that transports cargo witnessed tyre-burst in the middle of the runway. But this one incident has affected all flights destined for Lahore or flights that were supposed to take off from there.
The accident happened on the only runway of the Lahore Airport, which means no other planes can taxi for takeoff or land at the airport. As a result, the flights that were supposed to come to Lahore have been redirected to other destinations or delayed. The flights scheduled to take off from Lahore have also been delayed.
The incident happened at 7:30 pm Pakistan time where six tyres burst after rejected takeoff due to engine failure. DHL’s Boeing 767 stood disabled. To deal with the situation, PIA engineers were called in for help.
A DHL plane’s tyre bursts at Lahore Airport in the middle of the runway, PIA engineering called into help, flights delayed today because of this pic.twitter.com/kgiqp5RjMZ
People were suffering all around the world because of this mishap.
@PakPMO Mr. Prime Minister we are stuck in Doha since last night . Lahore Airport Runway is not functional . All the passengers are off loaded till further answer from lahore My 82 year mother came from NY .
Can customer service ever be customer oriented in Pakistan? After epic incompetence of @official_pcaa at Lahore Airport, the airlines are now turning blind eye to passengers. @airblueairline no arrangement for bringing the stranded families to Lahore@ImranKhanPTI@GovtofPakistan
Even though this happened last night only but Pakistanis memers were quick to get a grasp of the situation. Not long after, they were tweeting the freshly made memes. Have a look:
The situation seems to have gotten resolved in the morning at 3 am and the airport has resumed flight operations. However, even though the operations have resumed, considering there is only one operational runway, the backlog of flights must have not aided everyone right away; passengers in other countries must have remained stranded for more hours and most domestic passengers must have had to scramble to book other flights post their flight cancellation.
International passengers must have to face a lot more trouble given how travelling during COVID times requires PCR and the test has a short validity period. Hopefully, airports around the world wherever the flight was supposed to come from to Lahore would have assisted the passengers in this matter.
But this does lead to one asking why one mishap at a fairly busy airport led to all flights being diverted or delayed. Why was it that at such a major International airport, there was only one runway?

Easypaisa was the breeze of fresh air in Pakistan as it emerged as an innovative fintech solution for the people of Pakistan. They provide the customer’s ease in every regard but now, they have taken on another role— that of a protector. That’s right. easypaisa is here to protect you from PIN CHOR. Find out all about them here:
What Does A Pin Chor Do?
There is an amazing saying that captures the essence of this situation— with every great hero comes a great scammer. However, easypaisa’s spin on it is even more phenomenal. The fintech solution says: With every good tech service, come scammers! So, who are these scammers aka PIN CHORS? These scammers take advantage of simple people and steal all their hard-earned money.
How Does It Happen?
Easypaisa has made a system that makes the process guarded. For instance, every time you perform a transaction on easypaisa, you receive a one-time password. This OTP is also called a PIN code. Once you confirm the OTP/PIN, your payment is confirmed. The PIN CHOR know this and abuse it. They make a transaction from your account and then call you pretending to be a relevant official.
They trick you into telling them the PIN and voila! They take your money and vanish into thin air. This has happened to more people than you can imagine. What can we say? We are good-natured people who trust others. However, these PIN CHORS won’t survive too long with easypaisa’s new campaign.
Here’s an ad that’s worth-watching
easypaisa Solution
Easypaisa is the first fintech in Pakistan to raise information about this issue. Keeping customer centricity at the heart of every innovative process, easypaisa app has kept a strong cyber security framework and mechanism to counter such malicious & fraudulent activities. The OTP they have developed is a strong gateway for safe transactions. In order to keep it safe, they have launched a nationwide campaign to make people aware of the value of this PIN code or One-Time Password. They have taken it upon themselves to raise awareness about it through all social media platforms.
What they plan to do is make OTP or PIN sound like a catchword. As soon as you get a random call asking for it, give them a piece of your mind! The ad shows people from all walks of life being scammed but then when they come across easypaisa’s latest campaign, they become aware.
What do you think of this campaign? Let us know in the comments below.

Mostly, the life of Pakistani dramas is limited to 36 episodes running. After every 36 episodes, there is a new one on the horizon. But the best part is that within a span of a few days, you have a lineup of them just waiting to be explored. October is going to be that month for you if you haven’t already noticed.
Let’s have a look at them!
1. Dobara
Dobara teases at a romantic story between a younger man and an older woman. Yes, we have seen projects like Woh Aik Pal where there was such a couple. However, it did not start with a romantic storyline. Here, it seems that the two get into this relationship willingly. And the best part, they seem to own it. Having seen Bilal Abbas in Cheekh, we know he will do justice to the character. And Hadiqa Kyani’s performance in Raqeeb Se speaks volumes in justification for this upcoming dramas. So, let’s wait with our fingers crossed because it is set to release on October 20th.
With a star-studded cast, the drama was planned for October and it has started as well. The drama features Kubra Khan, Sajal Aly, as well as Yumna Zaidi. We will also be able to see Syra Yusuf in the project. Knowing she is very choosy about what she stars in, the storyline has to be good. Moreover, there was quite a hype on how the drama is based on women empowerment so there’s that. Maybe with Sinf e Ahaan, we will get to see a fresh perspective of empowering women compared to Churails.
3. Ishq e Laa
Sajal Aly, Yumna Zaidi, who else do you need us to name for you to fall in love with Ishq e Laa? With Azaan Sami debuting in the drama industry, the project attracted controversy because people thought it to be nepotism; putting Azaan Sami in the same line as talented actresses Yumna and Sajal. The drama is set to release on 21st October.
Starting on the 11th of October, Sila e Mohabbat airs from Monday to Friday. It has Noor and Rabab Hashim starring in the show. The drama does hint at a problematic feature, love between a professor and a university student. But let’s see if they can curate something different out of it.
5. Main Manto Nahi Hoon
Written by Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar, the drama is supposed to be iconic. No matter what he said, the man is a great writer. Plus, the show casts Humayun Saeed and Maya Ali, great actors. One thing to note though, the drama is not released yet and we don’t know when it will be released but it looks like it will be soon. So, if it begins even on 31st October, do not forget to watch!
By the way, it is somewhat related to Manto so expect some great dialogues,

October is deemed as breast cancer awareness month throughout the world. With breast cancer being the most common cancer amongst women, there are also many myths flying around. Today, we will debunk some of them for you on the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Here are some breast cancer myths which you need to know.
Myth 1: Breast Cancer = A Lump Which Can Be Felt
Fact: A common misconception is that breast cancer always causes a lump that can be felt during a self-exam. People might use this as a reason to skip mammograms, thinking they will be able to feel any change that will indicate a problem. A mammogram can find a cancerous lump before it can be felt. While breast cancer does not always cause an obvious lump, cancer might have already spread beyond the breast into the lymph nodes by the time it does. Although regular self-exams are recommended, they are not a substitute for regular mammograms. While mammograms are excellent screening tools, women above 40 are advised to get a mammogram yearly.

Myth 2: Small Breasts = Smaller Risk Of Breast Cancer
Fact: Most breast cancers form outside of the fatty tissues of a woman’s breasts. Therefore, breast density is more important than breast size when it comes to risk and screening. This is the only physical breast characteristic proven to increase a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer. Women with more than 75 percent dense breast tissue face a four-to-six times greater risk because it’s difficult to detect tumors in dense breast tissue with standard x-ray mammography. As the tumors appear white, just as the tissue itself, cancer is more often missed or found later in advanced stages in these women.
Fact: Like all other cancers, breast cancer is not contagious at all. Breast cancer results from uncontrolled cell growth of mutated cells that spread into the other tissues within the breast. This happens only within a person’s body. You can never transfer or transmit cancer through the air or bodily fluids.

Myth 4: A Lump In Breast = Breast Cancer
Fact: Not all breast lumps are cancerous. Some of them may be fibrosis or simple cysts only. However, these are usually harmless. Look out for changes and never ignore a persistent lump in your breast. Make sure always to see a medical provider for a thorough breast exam. Your provider may order laboratory exams to determine if the lump is a concern or not.

Myth 5: Bras = Breast Cancer
Fact: Bras and its underwire have no relevance when cancer occurs. A scientific study in 2014 looked at the link between wearing a bra and breast cancer and found no correlation, nor did it find or prove that women who wore bras versus women who don’t have an increased risk of breast cancer.

Myth 6: Breast Cancer = Family History
Fact: Some women may think they’re not at risk for breast cancer if no one else in their family has had it. Unfortunately, that’s not true. Every individual’s genetic makeup is different. Not to mention the lifestyle practices and the influence they can have on health. The key is to minimize the risk factors which include, alcohol, obesity, hormone therapies.

Myth 7:Breast Cancer = Same Treatment For Every Type
Fact: Treatment plans vary widely depending on the characteristics of the tumor, the stage of cancer, and patient preferences. Some breast cancer cells have receptors on their surface, making them sensitive to hormones. In such patients, treatment with anti-hormonal drugs can block the growth of cancer cells. However, some cancers get resistant to this treatment over time. Thus, the need for additional treatment options beyond established anti-hormonal treatment approaches remains high, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgical options.
Breast cancer is treatable, and when caught early, it increases recovery rates for patients. Always make self-breast examination a habit and get regular mammograms to check for lumps. Look out for signs like swelling, pain, discomfort, discharge. In case you find anything, make sure to consult your doctor.

The brands range from Toyota to Honda and the other known ones. They have impressive specifications and long life. You can expect to get quite a lot of years out of these vehicles.
This brand is a beast when it comes to sedans. They have been one of the longest-standing brands of Pakistan. Entering in the 60s, they still stand strong. Corolla Cars have soft suspension, allowing them to run over smooth and rough terrain alike. Despite there being so many newer models, a lot of the older ones are still in the running. Tradition, culture, and history are what make a rich society. But it is also true that there are some problematic, toxic factors that keep on breathing in the name of these elements. A case in point will be how patriarchy is a part of our culture but it boils into misogyny. While we need to call out what is wrong in society, we do not have to get offended by literally everything including a cute viral video of a couple in Chitral.
Someone recently took to Twitter a video of a cultural tradition from Chitral. Apparently, their custom indicates that the newly married couple will make roti together. This act is supposed to symbolize how in their time together, they will work together with mutual cooperation.
An old but beautiful tradition in a village of #Chitral where the bride is asked to make a "Roti" on their wedding day & the groom helps her. This way, their marital life begins with mutal cooperation & love! 😊 pic.twitter.com/vodtxNlXVq
But the keyboard warriors were not far behind. They jumped into action creating opposing groups on the matter. While some were of the opinion that this was a beautiful gesture and a tradition that needs to be preserved. There were others who said that this was somehow oppressing women. The latter used pieces of evidence such as the bride doing the entire roti-making work while the groom just flipping it or how the women all around were glorifying the groom and not appreciating the bride much.
It begs the question of why is there even a controversy ensuing from a simple video. Who is right; the people sending positive remarks or the people sending hate? The critics remind one of Lila Abu Lughod where she mentioned how the white feminists do not factor in a culture and its values. They believe that by enforcing their own beliefs they will be liberating a society.
They could not be completely wrong but in this case, specifically, the aggression doesn’t make sense. First of all, it is a cultural tradition just like the customs of joota chupai and doodh pilayi. Secondly, the roti-making custom seems the most progressive tradition considering the feminist agenda. It tells the public that society does not believe in the woman managing the kitchen alone. The household chore of cooking befalls both men and women. By working together, especially within the house, the custom shows that the couple can conquer anything thrown their way.
