The renowned footwear company, Nike is making its way into the metaverse too now, it seems. And as expected from a company of their caliber, they have done so by buying a company that makes virtual sneakers.

The apparel giant has officially acquired RTFKT Studios. The latter is a leading brand with cutting edge-innovation in delivering collectibles such as gaming and, of course, sneakers.

RTFKT Studios

RTFKT went to announce the acquisition in their own signature way. They published an animated clip of their sneakers that are now in Nike ownership. RTFKT was founded in 2020. The pioneering brand that redefines boundaries of physical and digital value was established by Benoit Pagotto, Chris Le, and Steven Vasilev. They excel in rolling out the latest in-game engines, NFTs, blockchain authentication, and augmented reality to enhance your virtual experiences.

Benoit Pagotto said:

“This is a unique opportunity to build the RTFKT brand and we are excited to benefit from Nike’s foundational strength and expertise to build the communities we love. Nike is the only brand in the world that shares the deep passion we all have for innovation, creativity, and community, and we’re excited to grow our brand which was fully formed in the metaverse.”

What will this acquisition look like? The website of RTFKT Studios links the visitor to the Metamask wallets immediately. The NFT owners can verify purchases that way. At any point later in time, should you choose to enter the VR world, the NFT items you own the rights to will materialize in front of you. This is what Nike is aiming to geet for their brand through the acquisition.

The deal was announced by the apparel giant by positioning RTFKT’s lightning bolt-style logo with their signature swoosh.
