‘Sacred Games 2’ Trailer is Out & Looks More Thrilling Than Before!

Sacred Games is an Indian web thriller series based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel of the same name produced on Netflix.

Starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, it was the first ever Netflix original series produced in India.

The latest trailer begins with Ganesh reappearing and Sartaj Singh looking for more clues to deal with the danger set to take over Mumbai. Ganesh in his trademark manner tells Sartaj: “Life haraam ho gayi thi sardaar ji jaise ab aapki hone wali hai.”

“The game’s bigger, the stakes are higher, and the players are ready. ‘Sacred Games 2’ premieres 15 August, only on Netflix,” the description on YouTube read.

Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui will reprise their roles as Sartaj Singh and Ganesh Gaitonde, while new characters played by Kalki Koechlin, Pankaj Tripathi and Ranvir Shorey also make an appearance in the trailer.

This season is bigger, more compelling, and totally unexpected. Be prepared to discover a different side to each character as we take the audience on a tremendous journey, and address questions left unanswered last season -show-runner Vikramaditya Motwane in a statement.

The Women Will Lead Workshop in Karachi is a training program organized by Google Partners and focused on career development and cultivating female leadership skills within digital and marketing landscape of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Country Manager, Pakistan & South Asian Frontier Markets, Farhan Qureshi said:

“Every day more and more Pakistani women are becoming part of our corporate landscape; and in many cases leading big teams and brands.

The highlight of the event was a panel discussion of notable women personalities from Pakistan’s corporate landscape: Dr. Ayesha Khan, CEO and Country Head, Acumen Pakistan; Ms. Sultana Siddiqui, CEO Hum Network; Ms. Sima Kamil, President & CEO UBL; Ms. Shazia Syed, CEO Unilever Pakistan along with Google’s Farhan Qureshi were amongst the panelists. Mr Roberge, the Education Minister of Quebec, met Ms Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize winner to discuss access to education and international development while he was in France.

He praised Malala for her courage and efforts with regards to women’s education, as Malala is popularly known for having been shot in the head and still persisting and pursuing education for herself and other girls too.

However, on the other hand, when asked in a tweet by journalist Salim Nadim Valji how he would respond if Ms. Yousafzai wished to teach in Quebec, he gave a shocking response that has created a stir on social media and otherwise.

Defending the law which covers judges, police officers, teachers and some other public figures, here is what the minister had to say.

“I would certainly tell her that it would be an immense honour and that in Quebec, as is the case in France (where we are now) and in other open and tolerant countries, teachers cannot wear religious symbols in performing their duties,”

Moreover, he also went ahead and shared a picture with Malala, which created quite a storm as the minister was called a hypocrite on Twitter for supporting an anti-hijab law but posting a picture with a hijaabi.

Karachi Public Transport Fares Increased by up to 100%

The transporters association in Karachi, on Sunday, increased the prices for bus fares, minibusses, and coaches by 100%.

The price of public transport fares comes after the increase in fuel prices, triggering a butterfly effect.

Given that there is already inflation in the country, the lower to the middle bracket is now facing anxiety.

A leader of the main transporters’ body informed Dawn that the transporters would observe strike on July 10 in the city to pressurize the provincial government to increase fares.

According to one of the passengers, the route number 11-C bus has increased the fare from Safoora Chowk to Saddar from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40.

The passenger further shared that when the public asked the conductors to present the official notice of fare increase, they were unable to provide any official document.

Instead, the passengers were shown a letter made and printed by the Bus Owners Association of Karachi.

Those passengers who raised their voices or refused to pay more were told that they can exit the vehicle if they are not willing to comply.

On the other hand, Mohammed Salman told Dawn that the minibus of route W-11 had increased fare from Liaquatabad to Tower from Rs20 to Rs30.

Passengers further complaint bus conductors and drivers over-fill their vehicles with travelers just to earn more money, which put the safety of all passengers at high-risk.

Mohammed Azam, who travels from Gulshan-i-Hadeed to Saddar on a daily basis, told Dawn that Muslim coach’s fare was Rs30 for travel between the two places, but it had recently stopped plying on full route. Instead, the coach drivers stop the vehicle at Quaidabad from where another coach charges Rs20 for onward journey to Gulshan-i-Hadeed.

According to PTDC Chairman Sayed Zulfiqar Bukhari, the application will help unlock the true potential of the country’s tourism as the country embraces technological advancements as per Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision.

While appreciating the initiatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Corporation, he added that the federal government of Pakistan will implement the same model across the nation to boost tourism activities.

The plan will include provinces including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad and Jammu Kashmir under one umbrella. PM Imran Khan will launch PTDC’s mega project of branding Pakistan abroad very soon, the chairman added.

It has been reported that dozens of students at LUMS, who were able to study at the expensive business school thanks to financial aid, have been denied financial aid for the incoming semester.

The National Outreach Program, which was designed to enable less privileged students to study at LUMS, is not available to facilitate students anymore.

Scholarships for Pakistani Students – Turkey is Now Accepting Applications!

Which means that bright students will not be able to study further just because their financial status does not allow them to do so.

The stories of students that are now surfacing are nothing short of heartbreaking.

Many of them have taken to Twitter to present their case and plead for external funding, as the students who were surviving on financial aid will not be able to complete their semesters without it.

One such student is Areeba Fatima, below is her story:

Of course, these students have the option of quitting LUMS and finding a cheaper university to pursue a degree at.

However, that would mean their completed LUMS semesters will go to waste, and not everyone can afford the time and luxury of dropping out and starting afresh again.

 

Some spectators are relating this issue to the fiscal budget introduced for 2019-20.

They are of the opinion that perhaps the financial aid cut-off has happened because of the slash in this year’s Education budget.

Many are condemning the institute and saying that, with this decision, LUMS is only encouraging the idea that quality education is meant for the elite class who is able to afford it.

This is exactly why Waqar Zaka has been petitioning against the Education Department of Pakistan, so that quality education is made available to all without having to pay an arm and a leg.

Pakistani Stuntman Sultan Gold Sets Another World Record!

Pakistan is a country filled with individuals with mass potential who have always excelled in various fields.

One such individual who has made the countrymen proud again and again on his achievements is none other than Pakistani stuntman Sultan Muhammad Khan popularly called Sultan Golden.

Hailing from Balochistan, Sultan is a motorcar and motorcycle stuntman and jumping specialist who has now set the world record for “reverse driving” which was previously set by an American driver at 58.48km.

Fast-forwarding further back, the young at heart Sultan had achieved fame after successfully jumping over 15 cars in 1984 through burning wooden walls. Not just that, he has also driven through a 60-foot long tunnel of fire at Minar-e-Pakistan.

In 1987, Sultan once again pulled off another stunt by jumping over 22 cars- a distance of 249ft! This stunt got him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

He plans on making 3 more records during the Shandur Polo Tournament this year. Local and international tourists have gathered for the festival and to witness Sultan Golden make Pakistan proud once again.

Jordan banned the application on Saturday over ‘negative effects’ on the citizens of the kingdom.

PUBG is a virtual game in which players can play solo, in a group or in zombie survival mode. The objective is to find and collect weapons and other items and kill everyone else in the virtual world.

A source in Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority warned the game “had negative effects on its users, which led to its being officially blocked”.

After releasing the trailer of the much-anticipated film starring Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali in the lead, the first music video is out and it is a complete audio-visual treat!

Titled ‘Ik Pal’, the upbeat wedding song has been sung by Hadiqa Kiani and Indian singer, Harshdeep Kaur. The music is composed by Azaan Sami Khan, who seems to be on a roll with back to back hits this year.

The video begins with Sheheryar getting a little cheesy with Maya’s character and clearly smitten over her beauty at a wedding. The conversation is then interrupted, as the song starts playing, but hey, we’re not complaining! We love the catchy tune, lovely choreography and colorful cast all dressed up in Umar Sayeed couture.

Pepsi Battle of the Bands: 12 Bands Get Through to the Next Round in Episode 2!

Pepsi Battle of the Bands Season 4, episode 1 had us on the edge of our seats!

However, it was episode 2 that turned out to be thrilling as we watched to see which of the 12 bands had been selected for the next round.

The gorgeous Hina Altaf introduced Kashmir as the season 2 winners – the band who performed ‘Bhago’ for the audience.

There could not have been a better start to the competition!

Outperforming Bands of the Evening

E-Sharp

Auditions once again kicked-off and we came across very familiar faces as E-Sharp walked on to the stage. The band made it to the platform for the second time after being unable to make it through in season 2.

However, their carefree sound and charm won the judges’ hearts as Meesha Shafi and Fawad Khan applauded with a much-deserved standing ovation. E-Sharp made history as it was the first time in the show’s history, that a band was sent to the final round straight from the audition round.

Uraan, a band that had been quite different from the others we have seen audition consists of artists hailing from different backgrounds. With their outstanding performance, the judges could not resist praising them.

Marjaan

Marjaan soon made their way to the stage. However, another familiar face was seen as the lead singer had also auditioned in season 2 with their previous band ‘Khamaaj’ whose song ‘Bezubaan’ became a viral sensation in a short time! The judges gave positive remarks claiming that the band was very “authentic” and overall well-received.

Black Hour stole the limelight after taking inspiration from Guns and Roses for their track. Being together for a decade, the band auditioned with lyrics in their native language, ‘Pothwari’. The judges declared the band as next level!

After a long wait, talented bands and the discovery of inspirational artists, the judges finally made their decision on the top 12.

On a recent show with Nida Yasir, the legendary actress pointed out that age is just a number to her. “Honestly, in order to keep your heart young, it’s important to change your mindset in reality,” she had said.

Karachi’s Farmers are Producing Vegetables Using Poisonous Water

Pakistani cuisine is unimaginable without vegetables! And considering how hot the Karachi Summer is, vegetables make for an even more essential part of our daily food intake.

If you thought the ever-increasing price of vegetables in Karachi was the only bad news, let us correct you.

The worse news is that it has been reported that farmers in Karachi are growing vegetables using the toxic water from the Malir River in Karachi.

The Malir River’s water is polluted with dangerously toxic waste from factories. Farmers are illegally used hundreds of acres of land near that river to water their crops and grow fruits and vegetables. And the same vegetables are being sold throughout Karachi and consumed by Karachiites.

Thankfully, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has taken note of this. Below is the statement that has been received from the board’s Managing Director Asadullah Khan, who wrote it in a letter to District Korangi’s deputy commissioner:

“Assorted groups of farmers are carrying out agricultural activities on scattered pieces of land at the bed of the Malir River, which is obstructing the 36-inch diameter of the main sewerage carrier channel.”

It should be noted that this issue has occurred multiple times before, and this is not the first time that toxic water near the Malir River has been used for cultivation of vegetables.

Not only is this illegal vegetation hazardous for those consuming the vegetables, but the vegetation of food crops from Shah Faisal Colony to the Quaidabad bridge is also causing blockage in the disposal of sewage, which is equally harmful for the residents of those areas.

Following are the regions where the sewerage water was being carried, as identified by the Deputy Commissioner himself:

  • Malir
  • Shah Faisal
  • Mohabbat Nagar
  • Shesh Mahal
  • Azeempura
  • Reta plot
  • Natha Khan Goth and the connecting colonies.

This waste passes through the 36-inch diameter of the main sewerage carrier and is thrown into the Malir River.

Shah Faisal Town’s Khalid, who looks after matters of land utilisation in the Malir-Korangi areas, gave this statement:

“Some notorious elements are carrying out vegetation at the bed of the Malir River on around 50 to 100 acres of land,”

The matter will be take care of and, with support from the police, KMC, and DMC, an operation against these farmers will soon be commenced by the district administration.

Pakistan, now a worldwide partner of the Effie’s was invited to be a part of the 2019 Effie USA Gala and Inaugural Summit.

The Gala was held on the 30th of May in New York City at Cipriani. The event was attended by representatives from 15 worldwide programs and celebrated Effie Worldwide’s 50th anniversary.

The Inaugural Summit was focused on the future of marketing effectiveness. The intimate event was an opportunity for a select group of influential business leaders, thinkers and disruptors to talk about the biggest drivers of marketing effectiveness and the path forward for the industry.

The summit went on from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM followed by the celebratory gala night. Notable speakers for the summit were Global GM of Amazon, CMO of KFC US, CEO of Publicis Groupe, New York and Vice Chairman of Pepsico among others. The event kick started with inspiring words from the CEO of Effie worldwide, Traci Alford.

The sessions were all moderated by Jim Stengel, President and CEO, The Jim Stengel Group.

The night ended with a networking gala that the attendees enjoyed. A presentation of awards also took place to honour the work of the Effie 2019 winners while guests enjoyed a three course meal.

Effie’s worldwide recognizes that the global exchange of ideas is invaluable and has lined up future events for its partners.

A partner lunch was organized at Cannes on the 19th of June and future global partner meetings are aligned for October and November 2019 in China, Brussels and Costa Rica.

Currently placed fifth in the points table with nine points from eight matches played so far in the World Cup 2019, Pakistan needs to outdo New Zealand and secure a spot in the semi-final.

All eyes are on the toss! In case Bangladesh decides to bat first, Pakistan will be out of the semis race even before the match begins.

Pakistan’s chances of making it to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup semi-finals look slim, yet captain Sarfaraz Ahmed continues to stay positive and said the team will try to score 500 runs in their upcoming match against Bangladesh.

“We have to be realistic, but we will try to score 500 runs against Bangladesh. We have to score 500 runs and try to bowl out Bangladesh for 50. It is very clear that Pakistan have to beat Bangladesh by 316 runs to qualify for the semi-finals. We will try to win the match,”

said Sarfaraz, at a pre-match press conference held on Thursday.

The highest result achieved by a team so far is 481 – by England against Australia. No other team in ODI history has ever exceeded  that score, proving that this will be a true challenge for Pakistan

Pakistan’s highest total in ODIs is 399 against Zimbabwe. If the team scores 500 runs, they will become the first to achieve this triumph.

However, even if Pakistan get beaten out of the tournament, they can be satisfied with the way they came back strongly after receiving severe criticism, both from the fans and former cricketers after their defeat to India.

While Pakistan still has hope, Bangladesh, on the other hand, are out of the tournament with only seven points from their eight matches.
