Pakistan Advertising Association (PAA) is one of the most respectable organizations in the country’s advertising industry. The PAA provides a strong foundation of a platform to ensure effective cooperation between the advertising companies. Existing as AAP (Advertising Association of Pakistan) from the 50s, it has played its part in raising the creative standards of the industry.

PAA and its responsibilities

Aside from this broad responsibility, the PAA is also responsible for keeping a strict hold on the advertising message which has to be legal, decent, honest, and truthful. All in all, it leads to mutually beneficial relations of people all around the industry stakeholders, the advertising companies, media organizations, and advertisers.

Therefore, the election of the Executive Committee member becomes extremely important. Every membership application, hence, has to be approved or rejected unanimously.

Central Executive Committee

To form the committee that will carry out these responsibilities for PAA in the year 2021-2022, the election schedule was decided on 6th July 2021. The election commission consisted of three members; Mr. Rizwan Shakoor, Mr. Shabbir Malik, and Mr. Irfan Rafique. The election was to determine 14 members, 6 for the vacant seats, 1 seat for the woman entrepreneur, and 7 office bearers. Expected to be announced on September 29th, the final list comes right on schedule.

There have been many movies that talk about the presence of artificial intelligence. When the terminator first came out in the 80s and became quite a sensation. People loved Arnold for his portrayal of the T-800 and a lot of pop culture movies followed. Films like I, Robot and Chappie talk about the essence of A.I among humans. If we look at the latter one, Chappie, it was shown that consciousness could be transferred. However, in that film, it was stored in a bunch of PS4 consoles. Samsung might be up to something similar.

Recently, we came to found out that the company intends to replicate the human brain onto 3D Chip Networks. This seems quite ahead of anything we might have imagined happening for now. Samsung is certainly making fruitful bounds in their domain and we have yet to see what they come up with. So, let us see what exactly are they up to.

It seems that the leading engineers and scholars from Harvard and Samsung, have gone ahead and published a research paper. This paper talks about the mapping of the human brain onto another surface. The authors hope to create a memory chip that can approximate the unique computing traits of the brain. This means low power, an adaptive environment as well as autonomy and cognition. Even an idea on this could have been considered a fool’s errand some decades ago.

However, now it seems that this could be something big. There is potential in it and we hope to see it go further than ever before. The method itself would include a nanoelectrode array which would enter a large volume of neurons. Then it would record the position at which the neurons connect as well as the strength of those connections. The data recorded could then be copy-pasted to a 3D network of solid-state memory.

Engineering Backwards

Samsung has said that it wants to reverse engineer the brain just like people have wanted to do for decades. They intend to bring that dream to life. However, there is one thing that the company has yet to understand further. The brain has about 100 billion neurons, for which more than 100 trillion memory units would be needed. This is not something that can be achieved overnight, rather working one night after another.

Additionally, Samsung intends to keep working in the Neuromorphic field, putting in more research and development after another. We hope that we get to hear more news on this soon. It starts from an idea on paper and it extends much further with persistence. It even reminds us of the movie ‘Transcendence’ or the tv show ‘Altered Carbon’

It becomes challenging to be a part of the society where despite being normal like others, one is ostracized from the society and often face rejection due to the communication barrier. To tackle this challenge, 25-year-old Hassan Ahmad, who is hard of hearing, took to social media to break this barrier by educating people about the use of sign language.

To educate people about sign language, Ahmad has emboldened many people that success doesn’t rely on your physical abilities but your dedication. Ahmad, who has lived 25 years of his life in this society, indicates all the challenges that hard of hearing face.

From the most common words to communicating at the workplace, Ahmad, through his videos, has helped recognize the existence of sign language in Pakistan. He started off with his YouTube channel, where he uploaded videos like other Vloggers, but the only difference was signs instead of words. To help the people not familiar with the signs, he used captions to explain and educate people.

Slowly but effectively, he got his message delivered and made the hard-of-hearing community feel included and well connected. Starting his YouTube channel in 2017, Ahmad now has 3380 subscribers, whereas he could get 19000 followers on Instagram. The quickest and most effective platform for Ahmad turned out to be TikTok.

Ahmad, who joined TikTok in April 2021, gained 125000 followers and around 1 million likes on his videos in just two months before TikTok was banned July 20, 2021, in Pakistan by Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA), reasoning the “continuous presence of inappropriate content on the platform and its failure to take such content down.”

Ahmad reached the mass audience on TikTok and was gaining followers multiple times faster than on the other social media platforms. TikTok is often wrongly criticized for only featuring dance and lip-sync videos in Pakistan. It has allowed Hassan to gather a mass audience and support the deaf communities of Pakistan.

After getting famous, Ahmad got his first show on a local TV channel and became the first Deaf TV host. Later, he also became the brand ambassador for Deaftawk, working for the Deaf to break the communication barrier.

The short-form video app TikTok, in recognition of Deaf Awareness Month, is spotlighting the creators who uplift this community on TikTok. Under TikTok’s initiative to make the app more accessible, it introduced the auto-captions feature that automatically generates subtitles, allowing viewers to read or listen to content.

The platform also encourages the user to use auto-captions as when content is more accessible, it helps reach a larger audience because more people can enjoy the content.

Ahmad is a prime example on this platform, who makes short videos to educate people about the different challenges deaf people face. He highlighted the challenges faced by deaf people at the workplace with a solution on how the people at work can help the deaf people using sign language.

He also educates the viewers about the most common words used in communication to help deaf people understand. From a few Islamic Azkar in sign language to occasion wishes, days, animals, birds, time, and songs in sign language, Ahmad also highlights how the people hard of hearing want to be called or engaged.

When social media is the primary source of reaching the mass audience, Ahmad TikTok seems to be the most effective tool to get the urban population and the rural population too due to the extensive popularity of the platform.

TikTok has faced several bans and restrictions in Pakistan without even knowing about its importance. The content making and creativity of TikTok users are astonishing, keeping in mind that this creativity was one of the ways for middle-class people to mitigate poverty and improving life outcomes.

Are you a chocolate fan? More importantly, are you a KitKat fan? Because if you are, the most recent campaign by Wunderman Thompson is surely for you. They have focused the campaign for TikTok and given that the platform only recently celebrated 1 billion users globally, it makes sense.

Called ‘Have a Bite’, the campaign was based on the idea that there are different types of KitKat eaters in the world. Some people nibble at the chocolate bar while others break off the sections on it. But there are some who just bite onto the bar.

But what is the right way?

TikTok and KitKat

This debate had been an ongoing issue with each category assuming they were on the right. Nestle decided to officially acknowledge the debate. The company had KitKat Australia and New Zealand run polls on various social media platforms. Within 48 hours of it, the official hashtag #rulebreak had 4.3 million views across TikTok and Instagram.

Extremely famous TikTok stars such as @milligram96, @rybkatwinsofficial, and @tomford19 were seen using the hashtag #rulebreak.

João Braga, the chief creative officer at Wunderman Thompson, said, “As Australia’s favourite chocolate bar, we know that people have some serious love for the iconic treat, but we wanted to discover new ways to engage with the fanbase online. What better way to do this than by jumping into the heartfelt and passionate debate over the true, right and ‘correct’ way to eat a KitKat.”

The debate overtook other platforms too

TikTok stars were the major highlight of the campaign but other celebrities were also a part of it. Famous Australian actor Michael Caton dressed as a wizard, was seen biting on the chocolate bar as a whole and then asked the audience, “Is this wrong?”

The ensuing debate had morning shows cashing on the hype as well with the hosts showing their own way of ‘having a bite’.

Joyce Tan, Nestlé head of marketing, said: “We knew it was time to finally weigh in on the conversation regarding how to properly eat a KitKat and acknowledge the weird and wonderful ways Aussies eat theirs.”

Why though?

It turns out that the campaign is to help introduce a limited-edition candy bar. The product does not require you to snap like you have to for a KitKat bar.

“Rather than trying to engineer a discussion from scratch, use social to shoehorn a brand message or kickstart the next branded dance craze, we just fed into the existing debate.”

Expo 2020 Dubai has Emirates as its premier partner for the event. For the event’s promotion, you can get a free one-day pass should you choose to travel with Emirates to Dubai. In another major promotion technique, they have revealed the first-ever full aircraft livery for Expo 2020 Dubai.

In this attempt, Emirates has employed their aircraft A380. As the aircraft goes around the world, it will be able to promote the event on a global scale according to the event’s standards.

First-Ever Aircraft Livery

Now, having a livery on the aircraft is not a new phenomenon for Emirates. In the past few years, they have been known to have 50 different liveries on 100 aircraft. However, almost every time, the livery was a decal, a transferrable sticker.

This time, they have gone two steps ahead; they have converted the entire aircraft exterior to promote Expo 2020 Dubai and they have done so not through decals but actual paint. The special aircraft is different for various reasons. It used paint for livery and not a sticker. It diverges from its usual simple colors like white and golden. And it strayed away greatly from its usual color spectrum. Using bright colours all over with a dominant blue, the aircraft stands distinctly from the rest of the aircraft collection.

Features of the livery

On both sides of the aircraft fuselage, you will find the message, ‘Dubai Expo’ and ‘Be Part of the Magic’. Moreover, on the engine cowls, you will find ‘Expo’ and Dubai’ on the one side of the aircraft, and the dates – Oct 2021 and Mar 2022 – on the engine cowls of another side. While the Emirates logo is not as visible on this aircraft, you will find its signature to be visible indeed. Near, the head of the aircraft, you can see the traces of the airline’s most recent campaign as a decal.

The campaign had a brave stuntwoman dressed as an Emirates’ air hostess. She was standing at the top of Burj Khalifa holding a placard. Using that imagery, the airline painted the picture on the aircraft, and the board read, “See you there” and “Dubai Expo Oct 2021- Mar 2022”.

The aircraft will stay like this until the end of the event.

Emirates does it all in-house

An interesting fact revealed was that the livery was entirely designed, painted, and installed by the airline’s in-house team. In fact, the stencils needed for the job were also printed and cut by the team.

The project was completed in 16 days and will go around promoting the event from today, September 29th as the flight takes off for Los Angeles.

With Covid-19, since Expo couldn’t take place this year, the transformation was quick and an online event took place by the name of Startup Championship.

Super Startup Competition is an extraordinary example of an innovative teaching method that the Entrepreneurial Teaching and Training Program (ETTP) is promoting under the umbrella of CMACED. Dr. Sumaira Rehman, Rector Superior University has brought the entrepreneurial revolution to Pakistan and she believes that the greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things by himself but the one who makes others do great things.

Modern entrepreneurship is far more than just starting a business, it is about transforming the world by solving big problems and changing mindsets. The same transformation is being brought from the platform of Superior University.

Super Startup Championship encourages the students to prepare their prototypes (Animated/Cardboard) for the proposed business/startup ideas in addition to professional showcasing of their respective idea. In the first phase, there were more than 200+ startup teams and after the Initial Screening round, 36 startups were shortlisted. These 36 shortlisted startups were intently evaluated and 7 startups won the championship.

ETTP organized a prize distribution ceremony for the outstanding winning projects. The championship once again bridged the gap between academia and industry where students exhibited their startups and venerated business gurus evaluated, shortlisted and judged. Both the students and coaches were rewarded. There were up to 80 venerated coaches in the competition and Mr. Hamayoun Khan won the accolade of The Best Coach. There were 14 Departments and 10 Faculties i.e Management Sciences, Aviation management, Mass Communication, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Aviation Technology, Avionics Engineering, CS&IT, Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy participated in it.

It is believed that Superior University has empowered the youth with an entrepreneurial mindset, which is the source of positive energy and perseverance that this world needs more today.

While it’s hard to avoid the occasional bout of insomnia, indulgence in salty snacks, or bawl-your-eyes-out movies — all of which can leave your eyes looking swollen and tired. Here are a few tips which can help you get brighter and firmer eyes.

1. Tea Bags

Tea is known for an ingredient which is known as Tannin. These can reduce the inflammation under the eye while withdrawing the fluid. However, Chamomile is your best bet while choosing the tea, thanks to the herb’s soothing properties. Green tea is also a great option, as caffeine can help minimize the look of puffy eyes.

Steep two teabags of your choice in boiling water, then squeeze out the extra moisture and stick them in the fridge for 20 minutes or so. When they’re ready, put them on your closed eyes for 15 minutes to a half-hour.

2. Cold-Spoon

Using cold spoons on under-eye areas can do wonders if you are in a rush or need to attend an event. Run a couple of metal spoons under the cold tap for a couple of minutes or out in the freezer for a few minutes. Then place the concave side to the eye. You should see the puffiness going down immediately. However, make sure the spoons are not frozen cold, leading to microcapillary tears in the area.

3. Hydrogel Patches

Eye patches are another great option if you don’t want to hold spoons to your eyes. The patches are filled with rich ingredients, which can help make the under-eye area brighter while reducing discoloration and puffiness.

4. Hydration

Hydration is the key when it comes to combating a lot of body issues. Since water makes the most of our body weight, it may not be surprising that dehydration can contribute to under-eye bags. Upping your water intake will help reduce the puffiness under your eyes.

5. Massage To Drain

Massaging your face can help with lymphatic drainage, which in turn can combat the puffy look. The under-eye area is one area on the body where our natural drainage system (lymphatic system) for excess fluid is not the best. There are different ways to accomplish it, including ice rollers, jade rollers, and finger massage.

Pakistan Post’s Latest Venture

In a recent development, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has come out with a plan to start banking services along with the collaboration of the Pakistan Post. He further suggested that this will be a joint venture with established Pakistani banks. The modalities will be finalized and discussed with the minister for communications, said Shaukat Tarin.

Pakistan Post has branched out with over 14,000 branches countrywide. With its nationwide outreach, the start of banking services by PPOD could help raise the national savings rate. It is established that the national savings rate is meager as compared to the regional countries. This is since scheduled banks cater to only 33% of the population. With this joint venture, there will be a rise in the national savings rate, said Shaukat Tarin.

Pakistan Post’s Services

Pakistan Post’s services include Savings Bank and Postal Life Insurance, military pensions, and more. Since Pakistan post works under the department of the Ministry of Communications, it serves as the main house for various tasks, including Federal and provincial governments.

Pakistan Post also performs agency functions on behalf of other divisions, provincial governments, agency alliances/partnerships with corporate entities under the government’s regulatory regime such as the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), SECP, etc.

They will be further expanding their services per the restructuring of the organization.

Previously Life insurance was transferred to the newly created Postal Life Insurance Company under the regulatory framework of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. At the same time, the function of the Savings Bank was transferred to the Central Directorate of National Savings.
