‘Kabhi parh bhi lya kro?’ (Maybe study sometime as well?) Oh, what I would give for every time I heard this from my mother. But guess what? There are some Netflix shows that will increase your intelligence. So, you don’t have to give up on Netflix and get smarter simultaneously. How about that?

So, what happens here is that they are very intelligently made and they make leave the viewers curious about how they will progress. Ultimately, you start connecting the dots. You start seeing the hidden message. You start observing minute details in it. And then gradually you start reading between the lines and I don’t just mean in the television shows.

1. Luther

This series, unfortunately, is not available in some regions on Netflix but it is a struggle between two psychopaths, one on the right side of the law and the other on the wrong. The tug of war keeps you hooked until the end.

2. The Mentalist

The Mentalist is available in a few places, not everywhere but man is this show amazing or what! It is about a man who reads people. The character started his journey from a circus. Getting his basic knowledge from there and building his career based on the fraudulent claim of being a psychic.

Among his many fraud claims, one of them angers a serial killer who kills his family. The show is hence about this man tracking the criminal. While he does that, he also helps out the FBI team track other criminals slowly and gradually revealing the ways that allow his psychic claims to work.

3. Sherlock

Need I say more?

As a child, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories about Sherlock Holmes always left me surprised at Sherlock’s intelligent working of the mind. And interestingly, every single show based on that character is off the charts. However, Sherlock is something special. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, this show I believe does not need to be compared with anyone else. Because not only does it portrays Sherlock the right way, Benedict brings his own vibe into it as well. And that makes Sherlock all the more great.

4. Criminal United Kingdom

Criminal United Kingdom is again another show available on Netflix that pushes your boundaries. It makes you look at more than you can see. And by the end of just one season, you will feel like your brain is working at full speed.

5. The Blacklist

Knowing James Spader from Boston Legal, I already had high hopes about the Blacklist. And this show where he plays a well-read mafia empire lord. Shooting other criminals while quoting Shakespeare, or commenting on Cubism era paintings. Please teach me Baudrillard’s Simulacra.

They are not replacements for studies so don’t go around telling your mommy I stopped you from studying. I am just highlighting that these Netflix shows can increase your intelligence so instead of playing video games, you can give them a go.
