Careem Bus Service to Launch in Pakistan Soon!

The UAE based ride-hailing service, Careem, has offered many different modes of transport to Pakistanis in different cities.

Starting off with cars, the platform soon added rickshaws, bikes, mini-car and even Go+ services. Previously, Careem even launched Suzuki Bolan also known as ‘Dabba Service’ for north Pakistan.

Now, the cab service eyes to launch their own bus-service in Pakistan and various other countries around the world.

Careem CEO Mudassir Sheikha shared his company’s plan to expand its type of services in the South Asian country during the inauguration of Careem bus service in Egypt on Monday.

Careem Bike Driver Reportedly Arrested for Robbing Passenger

He added that they will expand their services by giving an opportunity to give bus drivers employment and to help low-mid income earners a cheaper mode of transport compared to car services by 60-70%.

Reportedly, the service is now cash only, but passengers will be able to pay via the Careem wallet on the app soon.

Hadeer Shalaby, Director of Careem Bus, said:

Customers now expect the same high-tech experience across all products and services they engage with – why shouldn’t taking a bus be as seamless as ride-hailing a car? Research conducted by Careem revealed 40 percent of the Egyptian population is not being adequately served by a transportation service that suits their needs and the situation was getting worse.

Careem Bus will revolutionise mass transportation allowing customers to enjoy the benefits of our tech as well as reducing traffic in cities as mass shared-mobility could lead to an 80 percent reduction in the number of vehicles and CO2 emissions by 2050

Careem’s CEO and co-founder Mudassir Sheikha also commented on the occasion”

The launch of Careem Bus means that transport options and mobility has just improved for millions of people, as well as decreasing congestion and pollution in the city. Cairo is just the start. Careem’s move into mass transportation will have a huge and positive impact across the region.

Careem plans to expand the service to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in the near future.

Mineral Water Brands Warned to Improve Quality in 7 Days: Supreme Court

Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has warned mineral water companies to improve the quality of their water supply in 7 days or they would be shut down.

Hearing the case regarding the use of the groundwater by mineral water companies, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has also ordered these companies to pay the price of groundwater.

He strictly warned all brands to stop deceiving the nation.

We cannot let our children drink this water as these companies would turn our country into Ethiopia, people should boycott to drink mineral water.

Careem Bike Driver Reportedly Arrested for Robbing Passenger

Chief Justice has also advised the advocate generals of all 4 four provinces to come up suggestions to solve this issue.

CJP stated:

“This fraud with citizens should be ended […] We will not let the citizens’ water and money be wasted.

In November, the Supreme Court directed a judicial commission to inspect the companies selling bottled water in Pakistan. All mineral water companies, including Nestle, were given a 10-day deadline to rectify their errors.

Regarding the use of groundwater by these companies, Chief Justice had remarked:

“They are taking water from Indus River and canals. They are cleaning the water and selling it. There should be a restriction on mineral water companies.”

Farzana Shah, Director General of Environmental Protection Agency, told the Supreme Court that mineral water companies source their water from the ground and canals in Punjab. The canal water is replaced by sewage water which is then used by the farmers for the irrigation of crops.

Supreme Court has not yet registered a case against these mineral water companies but CJP Saqib Nisar is not satisfied by their conduct.

It has also been reported that the actor has been suspiciously followed by a number of people and is continuously getting messages on his social media accounts.

He said:

I am getting suspicious that I am being followed by some people. I have also received intimidating threats on Viber and WhatsApp multiple times after acting in a private television’s drama.

He further revealed that extremist elements are also active against the artists. The actor has also lodged an FIR at the Defence Police Station in the provincial capital earlier this month but the suspect is yet to be arrested.

The feature called ‘Close Friends’, allows you to choose whether an image is shared publicly or just with close friends list when you add it to a story.

How to Share Instagram Stories with Close Friends List

  1. Open your Instagram application and tap on your profile icon
  2. Tap the hamburger icon at the top-right corner of the page
  3. Select ‘Close Friends List‘ from the drop-down menu
  4. You can manually add people by clicking the ‘Add‘ option aside their name, you can also tap suggestions to make things easier (Instagram will surface people you interact with often on the platform)
  5. Once done, you will start seeing a ‘Close Friends‘ icon when you create a story
  6. Tap it and the story will only be sent to your close friends, voila!

One thing that’s worth noting is that ‘Close Friends’ stories are designated with a green circle around them rather than a red one.

Images shared in this feature, cannot be shared elsewhere, so you do not need to worry about your friends sharing your pictures.

After receiving massive backlash, Apple came out and apologised to its consumers and offered them a discounted battery replacement for older iPhones. The price dropped from $79 to $29- a $50 discount.

This covers various models such as 6, 6 Plus, 6S Plus, 7, 7S, 7 Plus and SE.

There is also a way to check if your battery is faulty if you’re running on IOS 11.3 or above.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. You will find a new ‘Battery Health’ Option

A bike driver of an online ride-hailing service was arrested by Karachi police for robbing a passenger

According to a local publication, the culprit was reportedly employed as a Careem bike captain.

The arrest was made after an FIR was lodged in Ferozabad Police Station by the victim, identified as Mohammad Tahir.

The incident occurred on November 26 at around 1:15 am. Tahir booked a bike ride using the online app near Tariq Road. The passenger reached the end of the street after confirming the correct license plate of the bike.

After being aboard the bike, the captain drove for a few miles and later, pulled out a gun to snatch the passenger’s mobile phone and wallet.

Police managed to trace the robber after the FIR was registered by Mohammad Tahir.

According to law enforcement officers, three more people are involved in robbing passengers and might be part of the online ride-hailing app service. Consequently, a gang is possibly involved in this crime. Police are now on a lookout for the remaining members.

A copy of the FIR and email receipts were revealed by Samaa confirming the incident.

Samsung seems to be a big fan of Apple! Recently, the brand’s Nigerian Twitter account tweeted about the Galaxy Note 9 and boasted about its Super AMOLED display.

However, the person in charge of social media turned out to be a huge fan of Apple instead as the tweet was not submitted with an Android device.

It came it to light after popular web video producer Marques Brownlee pointed it out. He captioned it as – Might as well add “Twitter police” to my bio at this point.

Atif Aslam Reveals How Jal-the Band Split Up!

Atif Aslam has earned himself a huge name in the subcontinent. His husky voice dazzles music enthusiasts all over the world, earning him a plethora of accolades and making him the most sought-after singer.

Undoubtedly 2018 has been one of the most successful years for the pop-icon. As many as nine songs by Atif made it in Indian movies, despite the ban on Pakistani stars in Bollywood.

Last week, the crooner sat down with a heart-to-heart interview with Samina Peerzada and reflected upon his rise to fame and days of glory.

The singer recollected how he broke up with Jal-the band and kickstarted a stellar musical career of his own.

However, Atif Aslam revealed some shocking details about the split while naming and shaming the leading Jal member, Gohar Rasheed.

The band made as many as six to seven songs together in a span of 3 years. But an ugly incident became the reason for Jal’s downfall.

Atif revealed the whole story to his fans that began from the time his elder brother started managing the group.

My brother was managing us because he was working for a marketing company at that point in time.

He left his work as it was a full-time job. A monetary discussion never happened between us.

However, after a couple of months, Gohar Rasheed told Atif Aslam that they can not continue to perform in the band together.

When probed by Atif about the reason, Gohar demanded that his brother should manage the band as well if Aslam’s brother will continue to be in charge.

Atif stated in the interview:

I got to know that the reason for gohar’s demand was that you’ll be getting more money than I will and that really annoyed me

Later, another feud between the band became the ultimate reason for the split!

The band was supposed to perform at a concert. After days of rehearsing and agreeing to perform together, Gohar demanded money from Atif prior to the concert.

When Atif Aslam denied receiving money before the performance, Gohar ditched him at the last moment to perform for another concert in Karachi.

Atif told Samina Peerzada:

“I understood then that it was sort of blackmailing, and I didn’t have the money. Of course, if I had something then I would have definitely given it to him”

What was worse, Gohar lied to the concert management about Atif absence.

So basically he went there for [the band’s] representation and he lied to them when they asked him where the lead singer is. He told them there’s been a death in his family and he can’t come

After the breakup, Aslam went solo. However, he revealed that he has no grudges against Gohar and has forgiven him for all that happened in the past.

 “I have met him a couple of times. He told me he regretted it, and I felt a little awkward”

Marriott Hotels Hacked: Credit Card Details & Guest’s Data Stolen

According to Marriott Group, its servers and database were breached, compromising 500 million guests information from credit card details to other data.

Reportedly, there is a probability that it had been breached previously as well, and possibly multiple times.

The information stolen includes credit card information, passport scans, addresses, phone numbers and email IDs.

This news was announced by Marriott Group on 30th November and was identified as cybercrime. Apparently, these breaches have been going on since 2014. The group was unaware of the breach as it surfaced only after September.

Marriott International to Open New Hotel Branch for the Very First Time in Lahore

An alert had gone off to the IT department after an unauthorised access was attempted. Accordingly, cybersecurity firm Recorded Future has stated that the data has not yet been spotted on the dark web.

However, a lot of the data which was stolen holds a potential threat to the victims, including possible identity theft. Marriott confirmed the specific type of data that was lifted off from their servers – names, address, phone numbers, emails, account information, passport information, date of birth, gender and encrypted credit card details.

Not just that, the hotel chain also hinted that the hackers might have captured the keys to the credit card details, meaning that the hackers can make transactions without notifying the account owner.

The Starwood’s reservation system, the same one which was hacked, is also used for other hotel chains all around the world. These include Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, St. Regis, Four Points, Aloft, Le Méridien, Tribute, Design Hotels, Elements and the Luxury Collection. However, the Residence Inn and the Ritz-Carlton.

Marriott Group Sued

Marriott Group has alerted the authorities about the breach and is helping the officials catch the culprits behind the massive breach. However, just a couple hours after they broke the news, the group is now being sued for “negligence, breach of confidence, and deceptive and unfair trade practices”.

On the other hand, US Senator Ron Wyden has argued that those employees who are unable to keep the data of their customers safe from hackers should be sent to jail.

He reportedly said:

Until companies like Marriott feel the threat of multi-billion dollar fines and jail-time for their senior executives, these companies won’t take privacy seriously,

Leading Lahore University Imposes New Dress Code for Students

King Edward Medical University Lahore

One of Lahore’s leading universities, King Edward Medical University, has imposed a new dress code for its students.

The university has made the existing rules and regulations even more strict for wearing uniforms.

King Edward Medical University students have been banned from wearing slippers, sandals, jeans and t-shirts. The institute has also made it compulsory for all students to don a lab coat during hospital visits, especially in the patient care section.

First Transgender School All Set To Open In Lahore

If not complied with, students will be punished. They will not be allowed to attend classes for the entire day or the wards.

Furthermore, directives have been issued to staff for implementation of the canons.

Founded in 1860-Lahore, King Edward Medical University added Mayo Hospital as an affiliated hospital. During the same year, it became affiliated with the University of Punjab. In 1887, the institute added Lady Aitchison Hospital as the second teaching hospital.

After the Indo-Pak partition, the university became the only medical college in Pakistan and in 2005 became a charter to award degrees in its own right.

The heart-touching song tells the story of a boy who tries to meet a girl and has fallen in love with her. Iqra Aziz looks flawless dolled up in the video and is bound to leave you in awe.

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is being expected to raise its benchmark interest rate in the next monetary policy in an announcement today. If so, this will make it difficult for job seekers to find employment.

This is because, in order to reach economic stability benchmark, the central bank will raise its interest rate by 1%. If so, businesses and manufacturing sectors will come under pressure and other employment firms in the job market.

SBP’s motive behind the possible-decision, if taken, will be due to control inflation. In order to achieve this goal, the policy rate will change. The policy rate is the interest rate at which commercial banks borrow money from the central bank.

State Bank of Pakistan Issues Warning Against Bank Scammers

A hike in the interest rate means commercial banks will also increase their interest rates, making borrowing more expensive for individuals, businesses and the government. Since manufacturing businesses are more dependant on loans, this decision will impact them the most.

In such situations, hiring freeze is applied and employment opportunities fall. Often, employers have to let go of employees by down-sizing in order to recover some of the finances for the company.

On the other hand, this also means that the government, which is the biggest borrower from the bank, will also have to re-consider all development projects, and will have to put a few plans on hold, even hiring plans.

Not just that, using credits cards to make purchases, i.e buying a new car, will also be quite expensive on the pockets for consumers. Experts say that the fast economic growth has taken a toll of on country’s economy.
