Pitch 100 Superwomen 2019: Synergy Dentsu’s Maria Shamsi Becomes One of the First Pakistanis to Make it to the List!

Pitch 100 Superwomen celebrates women who work behind the scenes in the creative industry. These talented ladies are capable of handling multiple tasks without breaking a sweat!

They take risks, are brave-hearted and are always up for a challenge to prove their skills – and above all know they how to get the job done!

Superwomen are nominated by their industry peers, and we are super thrilled that this year two Pakistanis became a part of this honor!

The Pitch 100 Superwomen initiative was first launched in 2017 by Sherry Collins, Founder of The Pitch Fanzine. It is a movement that had initiated back in 2015 to challenge inequality, discrimination and the lack of diversity in the creative industry while simultaneously showcasing outstanding contemporary talents such as animators, artists, brand founders, creative directors, illustrators, photographers, and producers via its publication Pitch.

Maria Shamsi – Creative Director, Synergy Advertising

Social Media Lauds Bank Alfalah Employee’s Termination Over Offensive Language

Maria Shamsi is one of the first two Pakistani women to be featured on Pitch 100 Superwomen and is also one of the youngest creative directors in Pakistan!

She has worked on a number of successful campaigns for brands including Suzuki, KFC, and edenrobe.

While talking to Maria, we learned that she wants to inspire and encourage other women to become prominent leaders in the advertising industry. She goes on to share that women are often restricted and challenged in achieving what they deserve.

Women manage not just their professional lives and careers, they also dedicate themselves to their households. They go home after work, cook and clean and also attend to their children and extended families.

Maria goes on to emphasize that men and women both need to encourage talented women.

She mentions how the environment at Synergy Group has been nurturing for women because its Managing Director Ahmed Kapadia has always encouraged and acknowledged its female talent.

Don’t Give up, Continue to do the good work that you are doing, keep at it and believe in yourself.  -mARIA sHAMSI

Tuba has spoken about her father’s second marriage very openly on social media time and time again.

She once again took it to her account after images of the newly wedded couple on their religious pilgrimage in Makkah went viral.

She wrote:

Go to Makkah or Madinah all you want, Allah will not forgive those who have broken families and wronged their own. It’s sad to see hypocrisy to such a large extent. Her sins could never be forgiven.

Previously, Dua also tweeted that her family is torn apart after her father’s second marriage.

It has been reported that Shabbar Zaidi, Chairman FBR, stated that prize bonds might be put to an end and that work is in progress to make that happen.

It was also stated that tax has been imposed on 800cc cars in budget 2019-20 because ‘a person who owns a car cannot be deemed poor’.

The taxation authority has said that data of the people who had purchased expensive and luxury vehicles have been collected. The banks will also provide all their data to the FBR by June 15th.

Budget 2019-20: Automotive Sector’s Future in Pakistan

On the other hand, it was also reported that FBR announced on Wednesday that the authorities have decided registration of Rs 40,000 prize bonds. A circular for the same is expected to be issued by the State Bank of Pakistan within the next two days.

The FBR also said that around 5000 people have filed applications for the Assets Declaration Scheme, and the number of applicants for the said scheme is increasing every day.

The prize bonds registration should help increase the number of applicants, even more, expects the FBR.

The FBR, in a statement, refused appearing in some sections of the press that state that the new Finance Bill allows non-filers to buy immovable property or cars.

It was clarified by the taxation authority that the new Finance Bill puts an end to the system of identifying a non-filer as a legal entity. The budget 2019-20, as a whole, is aimed at identifying non-filers and converting them to filers.

Manchester United Midfielder Paul Pogba Shares Conversion Journey to Islam

Paul Pogba

Popular and very widely-loved Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has opened about his embracement of Islam for the very first time.

Sania Mirza Calls For A Stop Over ‘Cringe Worthy’ Ads To Market Pak Vs India Match

While giving an interview to The Times, the Middlefield shared:

It’s everything [being a Muslim]. That’s what makes me thankful for everything.

He further added:

It made me change, realize things in life. I guess, maybe, it makes me more peaceful inside. It was a good change in my life because I wasn’t born a Muslim, even if my mum was. I just grew up like that, respect for everyone.

The 26-year old defended Islam, sharing that the media always manages to portray a negative aspect of the religion.

Islam is not the image that everyone sees – terrorism. What we hear in the media is really something else. (Islam is) something beautiful. You get to know it. Anybody can find that he feels connected with Islam.

When asked how he finally accepted to accept and openly embrace the peaceful religion, he shared:

I was questioning myself in a lot of things, then I started doing my own research. I prayed once with my friends and I felt something different.

I felt really good. Since that day I just carried on. You have to pray five times a day, that’s one of the pillars of Islam. It’s something that you do.

The meaning why you do it – you ask forgiveness and be thankful for everything you have, like my health and everything.

It’s really a religion that opened my mind and that makes me, maybe, a better person. You think more about the afterlife.

This life has a test. Like when I’m with you, here. Even if you’re not a Muslim, you are a normal human. You have a human relationship and respect you for who you are, what religion you are, what color and everything.

He concluded by defining Islam in relationship with humanity.

Islam is just this – respect of humanity and everything.

World Cup 2019: Controversies that have Raised Major Questions!

Jazz Launches ‘Face To Face’ Program to Connect With Customers

jazz face to face

Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital communications company, recently launched its ‘Face to Face With Our Customers’ program (F2F program) where each member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) will frequently visit Jazz Experience Centers (experience centers), franchises and call center to meet with local staff members, and get to know them better.

ELT members will also be visiting corporate customers in various cities to further strengthen Jazz’s relationship with valued customers.

This program looks to help the ELT to actively empathize with Jazz’s team members who are at the front end of delivering service to the customers and gain a firsthand perspective on how they can be empowered to serve the customers and the business better.

The F2F program kicked off with Jazz’s CEO Aamir Ibrahim visiting experience centers in Multan and Faisalabad last month.

This was then followed up with President of Digital Financial Services (VEON) Nadeem Shaikh, and Jazz’s Chief Legal Officer Saima Kamila Khan’s visit to franchises and experience centers in various areas of Karachi.

Customer Obsession is one of the key values at Jazz, which enables the largest telecom operator in Pakistan lead the market in a fast changing digital landscape.

Identifying and innovating around the evolving customer needs is a constant endeavor at Jazz, which is not only manifest in its customer service operations, product development, technology investments and contextual customer engagement practices, but also in the commitment of the leadership across the board towards customer centricity.

Following her visits to the experience center and franchises in Karachi, Saima Kamila Khan stated, “At Jazz, we are dedicated to providing the finest services to our customers.

Our primary goal is to digitalize the customers’ lifestyle by enabling flexibility, productivity, and most importantly, connectivity. It is important that we connect with our corporate customers on a regular basis to observe their business experience with us so we can provide even better solutions.”

Speaking about the F2F Program, Sadia Khuram, Jazz’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, said:

“While we are focusing on empowering customers with intuitive and frictionless digital service solutions, we are acutely aware of the value of human interactions with our customers and the observations and insights that these interactions generate.

We have very sophisticated systems and tools in place to track our customers’ experience and needs, however, at Jazz we strongly believe that we need to listen to and understand our customers from diverse standpoints to keep us on track to achieve sustainable success.”

Sania Mirza Calls For A Stop Over ‘Cringe Worthy’ Ads To Market Pak Vs India Match

One of the most awaited matches for the ICC World Cup 2019 between India and Pakistan is all set to take place on June 16th in Manchester.

Tension and excitement are felt on both sides of the border and all other activities literally comes to a standstill.

Brands often take the opportunity to create campaigns around the rivalry between the two countries especially when it comes to the game of cricket when the field becomes a battle ground. Recently a number of sponsors from both sides of the border are leaving no chance to create hype around the game.

World Cup 2019: Controversies that have Raised Major Questions!

Jazz recently revealed a video featuring a model resembling Indian wing commander Abhinandan, who was captured by Pakistani military after the Balakot airstrike.

He was interviewed by the military whilst sipping tea and answering some questions. The video was later released to the public.

The video created a stir on social media and people just couldn’t stop talking about it.

Soon after, an Indian Brand unveiled an ad which also initiated a debate on the internet. The advertisement features India as the father of Pakistan and Bangladesh as the game is scheduled on Father’s Day.

Both the ads caught the attention of the world famous tennis star Sania Mirza who felt rather strongly about the unnecessary hype surrounding the Pakistan-India clash labelling the advertising as “cringe worthy “.

Sania Mirza took to her Twitter account and wrote:

Cringeworthy ads on both sides of the border seriously guys, you don’t need to ‘hype up’ or market the match anymore specially with rubbish! it has ENOUGH attention already! It’s only cricket for God sake, and if you think it’s any more than that then get a grip or get a life !!.

Influencers Accuse Ducky Bhai & Sham Idrees for Ruining Entertainment

sham idrees ducky bhai

Ducky Bhai and Sham Idrees had taken the internet over storm the past few weeks, owing to their never-ending controversy.

They constantly blamed and claimed to expose each other for one reason or another.

Sham Idrees Exposes Zaid Ali, Shahveer Jafry & Ducky Bhai in Latest Video

Recently, their names popped up in a Twitter discussion between two popular social media influencers, Farhan Virk and Ahmer Naqvi, social media activist and former Patari CEO respectively.

Naqvi started a long, detailed thread on Twitter on June 10th about how popular media personalities like Shaan Shahid and Veena Malik often manage their social media personalities in a way that purposefully makes them seem overly patriotic.

Naqvi added that stars like these, who are visibly fading away from the limelight, resort to such actions to gain respect and stay relevant.

He also speculated the possibility that these celebrities are not behind their own accounts— rather, their accounts are managed by their Social Media and PR Teams/Managers.

Farhan Virk jumped in to express his opinion(s) on the matter, stating that the problem lies in the fact that Pakistanis do not take entertainment seriously because of abusive content creators lie Ducky Bhai and Sham Idrees.

He also mentioned Ali Gul Pir and said that they do clean, genuine comedy, whose market does not exist in Pakistan because the nation is used to enjoying cheap entertainment centered around abuses and insults.

I think entertainment either lies with abuses (ref Ducky Bhai & Sham idrees) or perhaps with someone people can mock (NKJ and Bhola record).

Clean entertainment does not have a market. Ali Gul Pir type people who make genuine content are not appreciated.

Both social media influencers agreed with each other and concluded that the market for entertainment is ruined because of cheap YouTubers and the like focused on creating controversy instead of content.

Daraz Behind The Box

Daraz COO

Daraz is Pakistan’s largest e-commerce platform. Since inception in 2012, the leading online marketplace has been working towards its goal to offer the best service levels.

Over the years, Daraz has expanded its inventory and today offers over 5 million products from various categories. To meet the growing demand of customers located in cities across the country, the company has also increased the size and number of its warehouses.

The belief driving the success of the company is simple: Customer satisfaction is paramount. We sat down with Daraz COO Mahmoud Ibrahim to find out more.

Mahmoud Ibrahim

The Customer is Always Right

Ibrahim says that customer satisfaction is central to the company’s core belief.  One of the foremost rules of business is that the “customer is always right,” he says.

“We think about our customers all the time. Before we take any decision, we ask ourselves, how is this affecting the customer?” Ibrahim adds. “Most of the decisions are made by keeping consumers in mind.”

This thinking has significantly impacted Daraz’s delivery operations. Primarily, it has led to the introduction of DEX.

DEX: Pakistan’s First Logistics Company Designed for E-commerce Operations

DEX – short for Daraz Express – is Pakistan’s first logistics company specifically designed for e-commerce operations. DEX already has 1,000 riders in 30 cities and more than 55% of all Daraz deliveries are done through DEX so that delivery time is 1-2 days faster than with Daraz’s external partners.

daraz express

“There is so much that goes on ‘ behind the scenes’ before a delivery is made that it is imperative for the platform to ensure that everything is running smoothly,” Ibrahim says, explaining the concept behind DEX.

He adds that as a measure to ensure fast and smooth delivery, Daraz has established 4 major warehouses in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad to meet customers’ growing demands. “These warehouses are spread over 200,00 sq feet and employ over 500 people.”

“Warehouses are central to Fulfilled by Daraz – our delivery premium service,” Ibrahim says. He elaborates that Fulfilled by Daraz means that the product is shipped from one of the company’s own warehouses, rather than from a seller’s shop. For fastest delivery and quality assurance, Daraz always keeps the top 30% selling products in its KLI warehouses.

daraz warehouse

“In the past year, Daraz has also introduced One Day Delivery which is applicable on grocery items in certain cities,” Ibrahim says. The new feature speaks to not only the platform’s growing assortment but also to increased efficiency in delivery time.

Daraz has taken measures to ensure that the customer is engaged and informed throughout the delivery process so that he is able to track his order through their app. Even after, the product is delivered, customers are encouraged to give feedback so that service may be improved further, Ibrahim says.

Innovation is Key

“Innovation for Daraz never stops. We have teams who focus solely on project and innovation management. Each year we start the year with set targets and solid initiatives,” Ibrahim says.

It is due to this focus on innovation that Daraz has been able to introduce features that have made online shopping convenient and fun for the customers. One such feature is “Message Center” through which customers are able to chat with sellers on the app to get advice on products and explore options. Furthermore, Daraz Wallet is helping a shift towards convenient and fast digital payment methods while DarazMall is the one place that carries authentic products from brands such as Samsung, L’Oreal and Infinix.

Recently, Daraz introduced Ratings & Reviews that give customers additional product and seller information before the purchase.

Everyone is Involved

Instead of following a strict hierarchy, Daraz believes their customers can benefit better when everyone talks and shares ideas together on a group level. This policy of open debate and democratic decision-making is implemented in all five countries where Daraz is present – Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

“All the countries are inter-connected and communication flow is a must,” Ibrahim says about the communication between the company’s global offices.

“Each department shares their experience and achievements with other departments so that everyone is on the same page. This exercise helps improve internal operations by eliminating problems so that others can learn from experience and the customer will obtain a better service.”

Beyond Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad

Not only has the Daraz started a viral trend of online shopping in many households, but it has also become a premium name in urban and rural areas.

Ibrahim believes that focusing only on Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad is a mistake that companies often make. Therefore, he says, Daraz has introduced almost 50 hubs all over the country that act as a customer interface with drop off stations and pick-up stations. The brand is constantly trying to build its presence both online and offline in these areas, especially rural, Ibrahim says.

“Essentially, our increasing footprint in rural areas means that we are able to deliver products from as far away as China to people living in remote areas of the country,” Ibrahim says, referring to the Global Collections feature on the platform that carries goods from overseas which are not easily available in local markets.

Daraz is on a mission to make it easy to do business anywhere in the era of the digital economy. The company has already made strides towards this end. Not only has the company kept up the pace of innovation, but it has also empowered local sellers and changed the way people across the country shop. The potential for further growth and success is limitless and Daraz knows how to tap into it.

Budget 2019-20: Car Prices to Increase in Upcoming Days

budget 2019-20

The Government of Pakistan has now unveiled the financial budget 2019-20 earlier yesterday.

Minister of State for Revenue Hammad Azhar presented the Budget 2019-20 in the National Assembly.

During the presentation, Azhar talked about the plans for the automotive sector. He added that industry was heavily impacted after the improvement of the Supplementary Bill 2019.

It imposed 10% FED on locally assembled vehicles of 1700 cc engine displacement and above.

Even though the government had reduced the FED for vehicles of 170cc and higher, various other segments have been impacted.

Budget 2019-20

While prices of the cars 1700cc and above will be impacted, the vehicles lower than 1700cc will also be changed.

Cars which can be afforded in more numbers by the masses have now become more expensive whereas vehicles that are purchased by a handful of people have become affordable.

So those who are in-line to purchase a Fortuner or Hilux are in more luck than sedan and hatchback owners.

Federal Budget 2019-20: Cabinet Members Witness Slash in Salaries!

Ahsan Khan is Not The Best Host to Work with: Sanam Jung

sanam jung ahsan khan

Over the weekend Waseem Badami invited Sanam Jung to his show, Har Lamha Purjosh, over which she mentioned that Ahsan Khan wasn’t really the best person to co-host a show with.

It began with the Bouncer Round, as Badami chose to start the show with that round.

He asked Sanam several questions, which she responded to with a lot of honesty. Why her morning show was discontinued and why the morning show trend is slowly deteriorating.

Mahira Khan Surprised Her Biggest Fan & We Just Can’t Have Enough of it!

If she misses doing her morning show, and if she is offered another morning show, would she do it?

How she felt when she was labeled a racist for a show in which she held a makeup competition which demanded makeup artists to darken the complexion of fair-skinned models.

How she reacted to and became severely depressed due to the public’s body shaming after she had a child. He then asked her that she had hosted some morning shows with Ahsan Khan, would it be safe to say that he was not really the best co-host to work with?

She responded with a somewhat diplomatic answer which gave away just enough!

Ahsan and I share a good friendship. However, as a co-host, he is too competitive. You can call him a meethi chhuri, and he is aware of it and even laughs at it himself.

She added that he would always want to take the limelight and more screen time during our live shows and that she would let him because she didn’t really care about screen time.

It was a fun experience in itself, though.

Watch the full interview here:

https://youtu.be/w_bdz-1P0TQ?t=528

Considering their past as co-hosts and friends, it does seem like they have been great friends. Ahsan even gave a shut up call to a fan who tried to pass poor remarks on her body after she became a mother.

Moreover, in Ramzan 2019 she was invited to one of his shows as a guest.
