Apple to Warn iPhone Users Before Slowing Their Devices

Apple‘s iPhone is one of the most popular smartphone devices around the world. Users were heartbroken when the tech giant confirmed that they slow down a device’s performance and battery over time.

Now, the titan has signed an agreement with UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). According to it, Apple will now be more “clearer and more upfront” about its iOS updates that affect the iPhone’s performance and battery.

In an official statement, the UK government said:

The CMA became concerned that people might have tried to repair their phone or replace it because they weren’t aware the software update had caused the handset to slow down

In 2018, an Apple iPhones received an iOS update which was rolled out ended automatically throttling older devices as it gave users the option to do so themselves, in cases when the iPhone crashed due to the old battery.

The CMA pointed out that if Apple decides to break the rules, then they will take the firm to court.

Today’s announcement locks the firm into formal commitments always to notify people when issuing a planned software update if it is expected to materially change the impact of performance management on their phones. It may take action through the courts.

Huawei Ban in US: Japanese & South Korean Brands to Also Suspend Business?

Following Google, AMD, Intel, Qualcomm and other well-known companies ending their ties with Huawei due to the ban by the US government, Panasonic has also suspended its business with the tech manufacturer.

This comes as a surprise as Panasonic is a Japanese brand, yet it is suspending its business, which comes as another blow for the Chinese firm.

In an official statement, Panasonic spokesman Joe Flynn said:

We’ve stopped all business transactions with Huawei and its 68 group companies … that are subject to the US government ban. Yesterday an internal instruction to fully enforce that rule was issued.

Flynn further shared that both Panasonic and Huawei’s business involved the supply of “electronic parts”, but he declined to share anything more.

Huawei Smartphone Release Postponed in Japan & Britain

Mobile carriers in Japan and Britain have decided to postpone the release of Huawei smartphones. British telecom giant EE explained that it will phase out the equipment used made by the Chinese giant in the most sensitive “core” elements of its network infrastructure.

Japan’s telecom carriers were allocated 5G spectrum by regulators just last month which was a major milestone just ahead of the launch of the high-speed wireless service. The technology can work 20 times faster than 4G and is essential for emerging technology.

South Korean Firms to End Ties with Huawei?

It is also reported that Washington is intensifying its efforts to have the Chinese firm blacklisted by South Korean firms.

US government is wanting the South Korean firms to end all ties with the Chinese tech giant. While South Korea is a US ally, it is also China’s biggest export market.

During a meeting with a South Korean counterpart LG Uplus Corp, the US State Department reportedly said  Huawei’s equipment, should “not be allowed to serve in sensitive areas in South Korea” the Chosun newspaper reported.

LG Uplus has not received any statements or requests from either South Korea’s foreign ministry or the United States regarding our use of Huawei equipment, -an LG Uplus official 

With the US backbend on excluding Huawei, Asain suppliers will be forced to choose between Chinese telecom giants and selling to American firms.

Chinese firms account for 25 of Huawei’s 92 core global suppliers, 11 are from Japan, 10 from Taiwan, 2 from South Korea and Hong Kong and 1 from Singapore. There are 33 American firms on its list of suppliers as well.

Reportedly, the US government has also sent countless messages to South Korea’s Foreign Ministry through different diplomatic channels in order to notify them that Huawei products can cause “security threats” the Chosun reports.

According to Geo News, full pay and allowances for the month of May 2019 will be allotted to all employees of the provincial government ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Research Octane Number or RON is used to indicate the quality of the fuel, the higher the number the cleaner and better the fuel.

The Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum is looking into the matter today to establish how the low-grade fuel can be distributed.

According to Dr. Malik, the introduction of the fuel can help reduce fuel import by $1 billion annually.

He also stated that 35-45% of fuel consumption is observed by owners of motorcycles. He also shared that 80-82RON petrol would be better than EURO-II in terms of quality for two-wheel owners.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has opposed the proposal. The association shared that they were informed by the majority of domestic refineries who have outdated facilities, that they are unable to efficiently produce higher RON fuels leading to the import to meet demands.

This policy initiative (of 80-82RON) will be a huge step backward in a long-standing national goal of achieving international standards -the PAMA said

This is to be noted that the One-Ring scam is similar to the recent WhatsApp security which allowed an infected phonecall to hack one’s phone and even their OS.

The One Ring scam is similar, an unknown number, mostly from an international number calls an individual and the call ends just after one ring, hence the name. When the person calls back then become targets of a scam.

The individual who calls back is charged a fee as the number is situated outside of the country, for every minute the person entertains the call, they will be heavily charged with a ridiculous amount.

Furthermore, certain callers ask you to dial #90 or #09 from your mobile. This is yet another trick used to access the user’s SIM card and make calls at the card owner’s expense.

The user can be charged with criminal activities if any are found being conducted through the SIM card.

These numbers come from a number of international countries including the United States, Serbia, Tanzania, Belraus, Lativa, and other countries.

Huawei OS & Play Store Might Debut in Fall!

After the US government blacklisted Huawei, tech companies including Google, Intel, and Qualcomm cut off their ties with the brand. This meant that Huawei was to lose its Android license.

However, Huawei was smart enough to start working on its own operating system (OS) called ‘HongMeng’, which is reportedly to debut in fall. Although this news has not been confirmed by the tech titan, consumer business CEO Richard Yu has supposedly shared the information in a private WeChat group.

Huawei’s OS has been on the cards for some time now, news of them working on it was floating around for years. According to the ban, Huawei will lose access to all Google applications and updates, the company will only be able to access the Android Open Source Project.

As for those who already own a Huawei or Honor handset, the Google Play Store and all Google applications will continue to work on them.

Since not much is known about Huawei’s OS, we are unsure about what it might bring with it. However, this does mean that Huawei will have its own Play Store in order to survive the post-Android era. Bloomberg’s report hints that Huawei’s App Gallery, which has been a part of Huawei and Honor smartphones is the alternative to Google Play Store.

The report further shares that Huawei offered app makers in 2018 inroads to the Chinese market which is by far the largest smartphone market in the world, if they build software for Huawei’s app gallery.

Moreover, Mr. Qureshi thanked the Emir for raising his voice against human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, while also expressing gratitude for supporting Islamabad’s stance during the recent Pak-India tension.

A workforce consisting of above a 100,000 Pakistani workers is already playing their part in the growth and development of Kuwait, the Minister stressed.

Mr. Qureshi also expressed that the PTI government is determined to be more welcoming to foreign investors in the future, as there are numerous investment opportunities in Pakistan’s education, energy, agriculture, health, and construction sectors for foreign investors.

In response, the Kuwaiti delegation hinted their plans regarding investing heavily in Pakistan in the coming future.

An unsecured database with contact information for millions of influencers and blogger accounts from Instagram was reportedly found online.

The information on the database included phone numbers and email addresses for celebrities, influencers, and brands.

Reportedly, the database was hosted on Amazon Web Services and left without a password. It contained as many as 49 million records.

Some accounts had excessive information such as the location of accounts as well. Each record also had estimated the worth of the account, based on followers, engagement and reach.

Anurag Sen, a security researcher was the one who stumbled upon the database.

We’re looking into the issue to understand if the data described — including email and phone numbers — was from Instagram or from other sources. We are also inquiring with Chtrbox to understand where this data came from and how it became publicly available. -An Instagram spokesperson told Engadget

Facebook’s policy prohibits the scraping of data on Instagram, however, it is unclear how this database was obtained and how the security researcher came across it.

The United State’s decision to blacklist Huawei came with major consequences. Not only did the technology sector felt the tumbling of stocks, but customers are also worried about what will happen next.

Given the existing trade war between the US and China, the decision to blacklist Huawei is just adding more anxiety to the relationship between the two countries. However, the US government has now decided to ‘temporarily lift’ the ban on the country.

This means that Google has halted the restriction of Android access to Huawei. This means that Intel and Qualcomm are now also on standby. Yesterday, all three tech giants announced that they will abide by the law, thus Google had taken back the Android access from Huawei.

CNBC reported that the U.S. Commerce Department will allow Huawei Technologies to purchase American-made goods in order to maintain existing networks and provide software updates to existing Huawei handsets.

However, the company is still prohibited from purchasing any American parts and components needed to manufacture new products and smartphones without licensed approvals which are likely to be denied in the near future.

The authorization, which intends on providing telecommunication providers who are relying on Huawei equipment to find other means to operate in a span of 90-days.

“The goal seems to be to prevent internet, computer and cell phone systems from crashing,” said Washington lawyer Kevin Wolf, a former Commerce Department official. “This is not a capitulation. This is housekeeping.”

Although Google did not give any official statement, however, an individual has shared that the plan to cut Huawei’s access has been halted. The Commerce Department said it will evaluate whether to extend the exemptions beyond 90 days.

The US Commerce Department blacklisted 69 entities including Huawei to the export list, making it almost next to impossible for Chinese companies to manufacture their goods in the States.

The US has accused Huawei of allegedly stealing trade secrets from T-Mobile. According to the lawsuits, Huawei has spent years with the aim to steal T-Mobile’s testing technology codenamed Tappy. Furthermore, the US government has alleged that Huawei had promised bonuses to employees in exchange for confidential information.

Now we have to see which direction does the iceberg tip towards and the fate of Huawei in the future.

The diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh have suffered a heavy blow after Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina’s advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury confirmed that the country has stopped issuing visas to Pakistanis.

According to Times Now, Bangladesh has taken this step as a precautionary measure and this is not a permanent ban.

However, Bangladesh’s visa across all categories have been reportedly halted for Pakistanis.

Iqbal Hossain, counselor (press) at Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad, told Dhaka Tribune:

“Issuance of any visa to Pakistani nationals remains suspended as the visa counter in Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad has been closed since last Monday [May 13]”

History Behind the Drastic Move

According to various reports, the move was followed by a delay in the renewal of visa of a diplomat from Bangladesh.

However, Dhaka has been refusing to accept the nomination of the new high commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh for the past year.

What’s more, Dhaka has also accused the Pakistani High Commission of financing terrorism in the South Asian country.

Since the past four years, no foreign secretary-level dialogue has been held between the nations and ties between them have weakened over time.

Filled with joy, the father took to social media to share the happy news with his fans.

The Mazaqraat anchor also revealed the name of his son ‘Haider Mohsin Abbas’.

However, the duo has not shared any pictures of their little bundle of joy and now we just cannot wait to see the glimpse of the baby.

Moshin married Fatima Naqvi in 2015. In 2017, the couple was blessed with a daughter. However, she passed away after seven weeks.

Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac presents ‘The Seeming Endless Path of Memory’; an exhibition of international award-winning artist Imran Qureshi’s new work, in Paris, France.

Imran Qureshi’s practice is rooted in the tradition of 16th-century Mughal miniature art, encompassing figurative and abstract works on paper, painting and site-specific installation. Indeed, the exhibition title, The Seeming Endless Path of Memory, along with the titles of the works on display, echo the words of Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz (1911-1984) which are prevailing throughout Qureshi’s work. They reveal various social and cultural connotations, and subtly reflect the threat of violence as a continuous motif.

Resonating throughout the exhibition is the artist’s exploration of the infinite through the figure of the fold: the screen-like structure of his panel painting with dark layers of red or blue gradually transforming into light gold, the subtle changes of tonality appearing as one continuous course of action.

Elsewhere, Qureshi is drawing upon the tradition of action painting by welcoming gravity and improvisation into the artistic process: through direct physical engagement with the canvas, the act of painting becomes a performative part of the painting’s expression. Throughout Qureshi’s practice, the artist reflects on the symbolic meaning of numbers.

The exhibition is further featuring a prominent series of miniature paintings depicting the Story of Two through finely painted trees that show a subtle unity and separation, akin to arteries of life juxtaposed against the self-portraits taking the position of the sole observer.

In various works throughout this exhibition, the artist is illustrating the historical idea of ‘heaven’ in opposition to violence and nature, an idea that proves crucial in the understanding of Imran Qureshi’s artistic universe.

Imran Qureshi’s works are modulated through a socio-political reflection on the precariousness and inherent violence of the contemporary world. Ultimately, whether presented in large-scale or in miniature formats, his works tend towards an aesthetic, religious and spiritual inquiry on the proximity of creation and destruction and recreation in all aspects of life – engaging the viewer on both a visceral and spiritual level.

‘Shattering the Silence’ Animated Series Released by Sharmeen Obaid in Paksitan

Shattering the Silence

SOC Films, helmed by the two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, announces the launch of their latest animated series “Shattering the Silence”, which focuses on raising awareness about social issues faced by children in Pakistan today.

An SOC Films initiative, the 4-part animated series is a social awareness campaign, in Urdu, which aims to critically engage audiences, and children specifically, with real-life stories of child abuse and to educate them with the corresponding laws, the resources which can be accessed and the steps which can be taken if they, or any other children they know of, are forced into situations of marriage, labor, trafficking or physical abuse.

The first animated short-film from Shattering the Silence is titled “Cheena Hua Bachpan” which explores trafficking through the widely occurring but largely overlooked issue of children working as domestic laborers. The story is told through the character of a young girl trafficked into working at an influential family’s home, where she was deprived of basic human rights such as education.

The film explores how and why this situation came to be legally defined as trafficking, as well recounting the emotional, mental and physical effects of working long hours as a domestic laborer, and the resources and laws which ultimately protected and safeguarded her well-being.
