Legend of Maula Jatt Scores Day-And-Date Release In China
There is no secret that China is a huge market for South Asian films but so far, only Bollywood Blockbusters have managed a screening in the country, that too much later after their domestic debut.
However recently, it has been revealed that Bilal Lashari’s upcoming project ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ has scored a day-and-date release, which means a theatrical opening date that falls on the same day as the domestic debut, in China and we are already excited about it.
You heard it right! The most talked about film wasn’t in the news for no reason.
Maula Jatt will be the first ever first film from the subcontinent that will score the same date release in China with its domestic release in Pakistan and it will definitely prove to be quite profitable for the project.
Only a handful of big studio backed projects from Hollywood have been able to achieve such mainstream release in China. Even the most commercially successful Bollywood films from India like Dangal, Secret Super Star, Hindi Medium and Bahubali have been released in China after months or a year later after their domestic and international screening.
It’s no mean feat as China has a limited quota for foreign films to be released each year. Therefore, annually a small number of films are selected among the myriad of them released globally, after thorough scrutiny by the Chinese regulatory authorities.
Until now, only a handful of Hollywood movies belonging to the league of Spider-Man 2, Captain America and X Men have been the chosen ones to secure the Chinese theatrical release overlapping with US domestic and worldwide release.
This breakthrough for a local film is all set to give Pakistan a global footing in the world of cinematic craft. A film from an infant industry like Pakistan has set benchmarks for even the most commercially viable neighboring cinema in the subcontinent, Bollywood.
Not only is this groundbreaking but also a hope for all other Pakistani movies to make it big internationally by not following Bollywood trends but by setting a few for them.
The makers of the 1979 hit rendition took to social media and shared the first poster of the movie which took the internet by storm. the film is all set to release on Eidul Fitr next year and people are already excited about it.
The upcoming movie stars Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Humaima Malick in pivotal roles. Ali Azmat and Gohar Rasheed will also be seen in the film in supporting roles and we can’t wait for its release now.

Garbage Tax Likely to be Imposed by Punjab Government
Punjab Government is planning to impose ‘Garbage Tax’ in four districts of Punjab including Lahore.
According to the Express Tribune, the provincial government is likely to collect around Rs100 to 1,000 per month after taking approval from the cabinet division.
Punjab Government has excused running the waste management companies on debt.
Reports reveal that:
- Lahore Waste Management Company is under the debt of Rs39.6 billion,
- Rawalpindi Waste Management Company Rs5.91 billion
- Gujranwala company Rs1.22 billion,
- Sialkot waste company Rs50 million
- Bahawalpur company bears the debt of Rs15 million
These waste management companies spend more than Rs14 billion every month. However, the citizens of Lahore are paying Rs35 per house. There are recommendations to increase this amount as well, while the garbage tax in this regard will be imposed in 2019.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government is taking a revolutionary measure in the healthcare sector by imposing a ‘Sin Tax’ (Gunnah Tax) on cigarette smokers across the nation.
This step is likely going to lead to an increase in cigarette prices countrywide and earnings from this tax is expected to be in the billions. The tax is already present in some European Union nations in various forms.
Government sources have confirmed that roughly 4 billion cigarette packets are produced in Pakistan annually.
The public exchequer is expected to gain billions of rupees from this taxation.

An Evening to Discuss #DigitalPakistan

The insightful discussion revolved around the challenges of monetizing high-value content; creating consistent policy regimes for a Digital Pakistan and taking the internet to communities on the other side of the digital divide.
Following the panel discussion, two students from Islamabad Model School for Girls were invited on stage to talk about how the Jazz Smart School programme. The initiative has led to an increase in active learning through the use of digital tools.
The evening closed with a networking dinner, where guests got to discuss ways in which they all can play a part with Jazz, in leading the country forward in an increasingly digital economy.
Pak Suzuki Tax Relief Opposed by International Automotive Brands
New entrants in Pakistan’s automobile industry have severely resisted the government’s willingness to allow Pak Suzuki tax exemptions under the auto policy (2016-2021).
After introducing the new auto policy, French automobile manufacturer Renault and South Korean companies like Kia and Hyundai, have announced their interest in setting up vehicle assembly plants in Pakistan.
Last month, Volkswagen also signed an agreement with a car dealer to start operations in Pakistan. These new entrants, plan to invest almost $3 Billion in Pakistan for producing various vehicles, ranging from cars to trucks.
Pak Suzuki was exempted from taxation, under the Greenfield investment category by the previous government. However, the government was reluctant to receive fresh investment from the company, refusing to treat the automobile giant as a new entrant.
That has changed now as the PTI administration seems to show a lot of interest due to the pressure by the Japanese government and is willing to offer incentives as well.
Officials close to the development, Adviser to PM on commerce, industries, and investment Abdul Razaq Dawood have played a major role in convincing Imran Khan that Pak Suzuki should be treated under the Greenfield investment category.
If the Pakistan government does, in fact, do that, it is expected to receive almost $450 million worth of investment in return.
Officials have been critical of the adviser, stating that his view will encourage Pak Suzuki’s investment in the country but will hinder and disturb new entrants, as they would want the same privileges as the local brand.
Currently, three dominant Japanese manufacturers are functioning in Pakistan:
- Pak Suzuki
- Indus Motors
- Honda Atlas
These automotive companies have a monopoly in the country, but they are also using technology that is obsolete and vehicle quality is poor.
The representatives of the new entrants also held a meeting this week with the Ministry of Industry and Production and raised the issue of allowing Pak Suzuki to invest under Greenfield category.
They raised serious concerns and protested against the way Pak Suzuki is being treated, and feared that it would disrupt their investment plans.
The new entrants also demanded that Suzuki should not be given the status of a new entrant and that import of used vehicles should also be banned.
The PMLN government had approved the automobile policy in order to break the monopoly of the 3 Japanese giants.
The Board of Investment (BOI) had refused tax exemptions for manufacturers such as Pak Suzuki and had also shown no interest in omitting the auto policy in any way.
We have yet to see what the future holds for Pak Suzuki and the new players into the automotive industry.

Talking about her educational life, Komal revealed that she was suspended by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi for three years and the reason will surprise you!
The actress shared that she had been a very obedient and intelligent girl since her childhood, who would take her studies seriously.
But during her exam in IBA, Komal had trouble memorizing a definition so she went for a shortcut. Deciding to cheat, she tore the definition from the book and took the paper to her exam. Later, she was caught cheating and consequently, got suspended for 3 years.
Well, that’s what happens when bookworms try to cheat in exams for the first time!
Although heart-broken for a while, the setback did not stop Komal from pursuing her goals and she was finally able to pull herself back together.
She applied in LUMS and several other universities in the United States. Amazingly, Komal was offered a 75% scholarship by LUMS and 100% scholarship by a U.S. university. She opted to study in the United States and the rest is history!
She also shared her experience about living with girls of different beliefs and how it made her more emphatic towards people from diverse backgrounds.
The young star also faced many ups and downs in her life. After a year of her father’s death, she faced threats from her landlord and alleged him for mistreating and forcing her family to move out of their apartment.
Apparently, Komal is not as delicate as her name sounds and we all love this strong young lady who is beautiful inside out!

The Bloomberg 50 in its second edition has highlighted individuals whose accomplishments in business, entertainment, finance, politics and technology and science have been remarkable in the past one year.
Where many successful names have yet again made it to the list from last year, some fresh faces have also emerged as the new influencers with their noteworthy achievements in their respective fields.
The only name from the Middle East in the Bloomberg 50 list for 2017 was the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Now, Mudassir Sheikha has also joined the Bloomberg 50 list this year, with likes of Microsoft’s CEO Amy Hood, Spotify’s founder and CEO Daniel Ek and Chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani.
Bloomberg also praised Mudassir’s efforts in One Million Arab Coders project, which offers online courses in the website and mobile-interface development.

The change of guard ceremony will also be held at the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi as per the annual tradition.

Remembering Junaid Jamshed & PK-661 Crash Victims [In Pictures]
It has now been two whole years since the chilling unfateful crash of PK-661 Havelian, en route to Islamabad from Chitral, carrying 47 passengers and crew members.
Religious scholar and former pop singer Junaid Jamshed along with his wife were also aboard the plane.
His sudden death left the entire nation bereaved. Pakistan lost one of our own and words simply cannot express the grief that will surely never leave us.
Even after 730 days, it feels as if it were just yesterday when the country was left stunned that JJ is no more with us.
Despite all this time, the investigations regarding the Havelian air crash could not be completed and nobody knows why the plane went down.
Below are the pictures of people who died in the crash — including 42 passengers, five crew, and one ground engineer.

Fortnite Tips & Tricks to Win Battle Royale!
Fornite is everywhere, being played by almost everyone, and yet the game is quite difficult! If you’re one of those players who’ve just dived into the game and struggling to earn a battle royale win, do not worry because we’ve got your back.
Here are 5 tips, tricks, and secrets to help you master the game.
1. Don’t Land in Main Regions
This is one is quite obvious, but mistakes are still made as the game gives you very little indication that many regions on the map are designated as ‘Landing areas’. These areas tend to be a hotbed of activity, full of people playing aggressively.
So unless you’re able to fight immediately after you land, you’re in big trouble.
Simply put, do not land in regions that are main or named, such as the Titled towers or Wailing woods, there are several dotted houses on the map, locate those and go and get your supplies from there.
2. Remember Loot Case Locations- It’s Helpful!
There are many ways to find supplies in Fortnite, you could pillage a house, tuck into a tree with a pickaxe or take out an enemy, but most important of all is to finding treasure chests full of loot.
Unlike the weapons and supplies you’ll find in a given place, these chests are not easily available or randomized. This means that if you run into one, and afterward you know where it is then that is a crucial advantage and key for your survival.
3. Master the Art of Building
The most important survival tool in the game is building, you can conjure structures out of thin air and you can do that instantly.
The most basic structure is called ‘1X1’, it gives you instant protection, also a higher ground (which is a huge tactical advantage), its simple to build and can most certainly save your life.
The best way to learn how to build in the game is by dropping the structure into a secluded area of the map. If you own the ‘Save the World’ mode, you can practice all this there as well.
4. Get Yourself a Shotgun!
If you land on a rooftop and the only weapon available is a handgun, so pick it and use it. In any other instance in Fortnite, you just walk away from a pistol until you find a shotgun.
The vast majority of combat is close enough in proximity, for which shotguns are by far the most useful weaponry.
It is also possible that the first player you encounter is inside a building and the most useful weapon in there is a shotgun, a single well-placed shell will take out other players, even with the most basic models.
5. Find a Shield Position
There are bandages & first aid kids in Fortnite that are very useful, but shield potions are far more helpful.
Instead of replacing any health that you’ve lost, they automatically add a new bar of health on top of the one you’ve already got.
If you get a trio of small ones, they’ll add 75 % of additional health, but there are options out there that can push you all the way up to 100 %.
However, you must use the potions immediately upon finding them, the sooner you consume them, the better!

Burger King Pranks McDonald’s with an Epic Offer for Fans!
Burger King and McDonald’s are known to be the biggest rivals in the history of fast-food! Both dominating brands have time and time again taken a dig at one another or have trolled their competitor.
This time around, Burger King was the one to make an entire campaign around a new marketing strategy called ‘The Whopper Detour’ and as suggested, yes, McDonald’s plays a huge part in it.

BK says FCB New York approached it with the premise about a year ago.
“We love ideas that when the idea gets to us we say ‘how the heck are we going to pull this off?'” said Marcelo Pascoa, BK’s global head of brand marketing.
Nearly 75% of all Americans live within a 3-mile radius of at least one McDonalds outlet. There were more than 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants and roughly 7,200 Burger King restaurants in the U.S in 2017, according to data from Technomic.
To make things more interesting, Burking Kind also shared a print ad with the McDonalds’ sign to read “Billions Swerved” instead of “Billions Served, showing the BK King making the snarky change.

The franchised worked with Waze to make an ad that appears when one’s car stops near a McDonald’s. And an online video promoting the limited-time deal shows actors trying to redeem the offer at the McDonald’s drive-thru, where their orders are met with confusion from McDonald’s staff.

Malala Yousafzai on Harper Bazaar’s ‘150 Visionary Women’ List
