UPDATE:

US dollar has now reached Rs. 162.47 in the interbank market; it rose by Rs5.2 as trading continued for the day.

The US dollar has just reached an all time high against the Pakistani Rupee at Rs. 160 in the interbank market.

With a rise of Rs 2.2 at the start of the trading, the USD is now stronger than ever before against the rupee, which has been falling against the dollar following an agreement with the International Monetary Fund on a $6 billon loan with expected strict conditions including a “market determined” exchange rate.

Considering that the budget 2019-20 introduced by PTI lately has also brought price hikes with it, the USD’s rise only brings bad news for the country.

Pakistan Blacklists 12 Foreign Recruitment Firms

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) has blacklisted 12 foreign recruiting firms from recruiting Pakistanis.

The reason is due to non-compliance of employment code which resulted in problems for the emigrants.

The firms did not provide the jobs promised to the individuals and failed to pay the employees timely salaries. They also reportedly issued fake, a BEOE official told the media.

According to the official, 6 of these firms are situated in Azerbaijan, and 3 each are in Iraq and Oman.

The blacklisted firms included Shah International F/S LLC, Nazar Motors LLC, Lardak LLC, ACV LLC, Arkuita LLC, Citizen Munawwar Latifi, Shirka Ardh Al-Muheet, Shirka Amwaj Ul-Bahar, Shirka Seeufue Ul-Badar, Catalyst Contract Trading Company, Fourth Union Reconstruction LLC and Dar Ul Riyan International LLC.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, announced to the media in a meeting on Monday that Qatar will be investing a sum of $3 billion in Pakistan in the form of direct investment and deposits.

This was decided after the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s visited Pakistan. Through the investment Qatar has expressed confidence in the future of Pakistan’s economy under the PTI government.

“By announcing this new investment package on Monday, the size of the Qatari-Pakistani economic partnership will amount to nine billion US dollars”.

said the Qatari foreign minister said in a statement.

Electronic Applications for Permanent Residency in Saudi Arabia Now Open for Expats

The meeting was held by the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE). She also mentioned that Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced the facility of visa on arrival to Qatari citizens.

The PTI government has high hopes attached with these developments, and hopes that the investment will help ease the economic burden on the public of Pakistan.

Awan explained that this step and Qatar’s investment in Pakistan is aimed to aid in the following:

strengthening the relationship between Qatar and Pakistan
boosting tourism
boosting the economy
generating business
increasing job opportunities
helping the government to attract more foreign investment
She also said that this step will help establish further relations with Qatar.

Another good news that Awan announced was Qatar’s lift on the ban on import of Pakistani rice.

Petrol Prices to Increase in July by up to PKR 5!

The Federal Government of Pakistan is reportedly ready to increase the prices of petrol by up to Rs.5 per liter in July.

As per received details, the current prices are being revised due to the devaluation of the Rupee against the Dollar as well as a hike in crude oil prices in the international markets.

An industry expert shared that there is a high probability that the government might not increase the price of oil as it is aiming to provide relief to the public.

The final decision of whether or not the price will increase for sure will be taken on 30th June. As of now, the current price of petrol is Rs. 112.68/L, high-speed diesel is at Rs. 126.82/L, Kerosene oil at Rs. 98.64, and light-speed diesel is priced at Rs. 88.62/L.

On the other hand, like a butterfly effect of the increase of the Dollar’s value, car manufacturers like Honda, Al-Haj FAW, Suzuki and others have increased the prices for their vehicles up to PKR 7 lakh!

PTCL Partially Restores Internet Connection in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) updated its customers that the issue was caused because of multiple cable cuts leading to severe issues across Pakistan.

Fariha Tahir Shah, General Manager, Corporate Communication, PTCL further added:

We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers. PTCL has deployed all its technical resources to restore and stabilize the services as soon as possible. Furthermore, internet services have been partially restored in many areas.

Furthermore, she added that a high-level investigation committee has been assigned to determine the root cause of the outage.

Second Marriage In Pakistan Not Allowed Without Arbitration Council’s Permit

It has been made mandatory to first apply for permission for second marriage to the Arbitrary Council, decided Justice Athar Minallah from Islamabad High Court on Monday.

As per the 1961 Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, it was required for a man to take the current/first wife’s consent before second marriage. If not complied, the man would be punished and fined.

The verdict issued by IHC implies that, a man cannot marry for the second time until and unless approval from the Arbitrary Council is obtained, even if the first wife has consented to the idea.

In 2013, a person called Liaqat Ali married for the second time after having married Dilshad Bibi in 2011; he had not taken Dilshad Bibi’s consent.

There was a case on him, and he was handed over one-month jail sentence by an Islamabad magistrate for his offense along with a Rs. 5,000. fine. However, an additional judge released him on the grounds that he was a native of Azad Kashmir.

That judge’s decision was also nullified yesterday, on Monday, and it was announced by IHC that all laws apply to all individuals with the NIC. He also remarked that judges must hear cases on merit from now onwards.

Over the weekend, the Premium Residency Center of Saudi Arabia received the approval of the Council of Ministers to process applications for permanent residency in Saudi Arabia.

The meeting was headed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Licenses to be Mandatory for Buying New Motorcycles: IG Sindh

The Premium Residency Center is a financially and administratively independent entity associated with the Council for Economic Affairs and Development.

In cooperation with the government sectors, the center provides services to those who already hold a premium residency in Saudi Arabia and also to those who wish to attain it.

The Center began its services on Sunday by receiving and processing applications electronically and applying the Premium Residency System, which aims to serve those who wish to pursue the premium residency in Saudi Arabia through “SAPRC”, a comprehensive electronic platform.

The platform requires applicants to upload all the documents required for the application. Payments for the procedure are also made electronically.

Two types of premium residencies in Saudi Arabia are offered by the center:

– Permanent premium residency, for which a one-time lifetime fee needs to be paid

– Temporary premium residency, for which there is an annual fee

The trailer gives us a sneak-peek into Sheheryar Munawar’s character who happens to be a striving actor also named Sheheryar. Passengers Will be Required to Pay Airport Tax in PKR instead of USD – CAA

As of June 19^th, the PKR further weakened against the greenback at Rs156.8/157.3.

Owing to this constant downsliding of the rupee since the past year against the US dollar, it has been announced by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) that passengers will now have to pay airport tax in PKR instead of US dollars.

Moreover, it was recently reported that the IMF has asked Pakistan to end state control of the rupee, so the currency can move freely to find its equilibrium against the US dollar.

According to a CAA notification, passengers were earlier required to pay 20 USD on international departures. Now the rate has been rationalised to 2,800 PKR per passenger.

Here is what the notification exactly read:

“In order to avoid any inconvenience to the passengers, the Airport Charges (INFR+SEC) payable by the passengers earlier at the rate of US$ 20, have been rationalized for payment at a fixed amount of Pak Rupees (Rs 2800) per departing international passenger.

All airlines operators are required to ensure compliance in true letter and spirit”

Karachi Monsoon Showers Spell to Start from 1st July

Karachiites will finally be relieved to know that monsoon shower spells are to start from 1st July.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has shared that there will be rain in different parts of the city.

The weather is has turned slightly pleasant as various parts of the city experienced light to heavy rainfall.

Earlier this month the department had issued a heatwave warning. Not just that, Pakistan also became one of the few countries in Asia to experience the hottest temperatures in history.

Cyclone Vayu had caused the sea breeze to halt which led to the heatwave as the temperature soared high.

Now, the residents of the metropolis can take a breather as the temperature will now turn pleasant.

Hopefully, the rain will help in resolving Karachi’s water shortage and electricity problems as well.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 1 Drama Review: A Murder-Mystery Thriller that is NOT to be Missed!

While mostly Pakistani television is flooded with typical storylines that become a bore to watch after the first few episodes, every once in while a few dramas come along to steal our attention due to their unusual plots and spectacular performances.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb seems to be once such play that we had been impatiently waiting for ever since the teasers and OST released.

Starring an ensemble cast which includes Zahid Ahmed, Sami Khan, Sonya Hussyn, Zarnish Khan, Khalid Malik, and Yumna Zaidi, the drama introduced us to the complex characters and promises to be like nothing we’ve seen before.

Written by Hashim Nadeem, directed by Farooq Rind and produced by Moomal Productions, Ishq Zahe Naseeb aired its first episode on Friday which lived up to the hype and expectations so far.

Danish Taimoor Spills the Beans About Bollywood’s Offer to Work with Kareena Kapoor

The drama starts with a small child calling out his parents giving a very eerie feel to the plot and later introduces us to Sami Khan (Kashif) and Sonya Hussayn (Gohar) who look like the lead pair in the play. They’re head over heels in love with each other and share some interesting chemistry.

Gohar secretly visits a shrine with Kashif where she is told by a palmist that the two individuals will have a very similar destiny, but not in a way she might have wanted to hear. Gohar who relies too much on horoscopes and predictions was also told that her first husband will eventually die.

On the other hand, she has a good for nothing cousin (Khalid Malik) who is interested in marrying her.

Zahid Ahmad’s character who suffers from personality disorder happens to be the highlight of the play. He plays Sameer, a successful businessman who slips into a girl’s personality every evening and calls himself Sameera.

We saw a flashback of Sameer’s troubled childhood in the first few scenes and also found about his first love, Zoya (Azekah Daniel) who died an unexpected death. Some believe that she committed suicide while others think Sameer killed her; while it looks like a murder, the upcoming episodes will reveal the truth.

He has a friend, Shakra (Yumna Zaidi) who rules his subconscious mind. Sameer doesn’t leave home in the evening and we believe it has something to with his psychological condition and Shakra who he’s greatly influenced by.

Sami Khan and Sonya Hussyn keep the plot light and fresh for now while Yumna Zaidi and Zahid Ahmed seem to give the most powerful performances of their careers so far. The drama is intriguing and not to be missed.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb airs every Friday at 8 pm on HUM TV.
