Tecno Camon i4’s Marketing Campaign Creates Massive Pre-Launch Hype

Tecno Mobile, an emerging mobile company, has recently launched Camon i4 in Pakistan. The company’s marketing created serious hype for the phone by using the local newspapers.

Tecno gradually revealed the phone by launching different aspects in the newspapers one by one. Four advertisements were featured in the local newspapers consisting of one teaser which confirmed the phone’s name as Camon i4.

On the second day, the Dot Notch display was focused in the advertisement that holds the selfie camera along with proximity and light sensors. Dot-notch is the latest trend in the market and allows for more screen space to the user.

The third day featured the Triple Rear AI Cameras, teasing that the upcoming phone will have triple cameras and finally right after the launch event, the specifications and price of the phone were revealed.

The entire process of the launch was very appealing because Tecno created a lot of hype and suspense before its phone was launched. Initially, the phone was being rumored to launch after collaboration with an RJ and the people who pre-booked their phone were also invited to the launch event as well followed with a creative campaign in the local newspapers.

Furthermore, the launch event of Camon i4 took place and it was hosted by none other than the most humorous public figures, Cybil Chauhdary and Ahmed Ali Butt. This event was also attended by numerous celebrities and also featured some remarkable words from the directors and managers of Tecno Mobile.

Camon i4 stands out with the product slogan of “Capture More Beauty” supported by the triple camera, which is with a 6.2-inch dot-notch display. The best part is the reasonable price of just Rs.21, 499.

Tecno has given a proper introduction to the Camon i4 and this shows how much of their creativity exists in their ideas and should be expected in the mobile segment too.

Olx Becomes Exclusive Agent For Mena Region’s Largest Property Exhibition By Cityscape Global

OLX Pakistan’s number one marketplace has become the authorized agent for Cityscape Global in Pakistan following a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organisations.

The MoU will see OLX act as the exclusive agent for Cityscape Global who will be procuring property developers and the wider real estate industry in Pakistan to showcase their projects to an international pool of investors at Cityscape Global to be held in Dubai.

Cityscape Global Exhibition is the largest real estate event in the Middle East and North Africa and will mark its 18th edition from September 25th to 27th, 2019 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Designed to engage heavyweight investors across the global real estate landscape, Cityscape Global will launch an invitation-only day this year, which will act as a curtain raiser for the annual show before all other participants and the wider public enter on September 26th and 27th.

“The invitation-only day is dedicated to supporting the transformative business environment by inviting GCC nationals, local and international high-net-worth investors, industry elite, senior global government officials and VIP guests,” said Chris Speller, Group Director, Cityscape. “Over the course of the day, investors will have access to a global pool of local, regional and international exhibitors to diversify their portfolio projects in an uninterrupted environment.”

The CEO OLX Pakistan Bilal Bajwa said, “OLX has a proven track record in promoting and supporting large scale events and programmes across the region. We see this partnership with Cityscape as a vital initiative to ensure that all our business partners are being serviced with industry-leading advertising opportunities in the property sector.”

Cityscape Global 2019 will also facilitate optimal business matchmaking by identifying and connecting private and institutional investors with the local, regional and global real estate industry. As part of Informa Markets, the world’s largest exhibition organiser, Cityscape is investing heavily to bring investor delegations from Europe, Asia and the U.S. to source new avenues of growth from the event’s various regional and global exhibitors.

Speller also revealed that new efforts are being made to shine the spotlight on Cityscape Global’s potential to serve as a weathervane for global real estate developments – both on the show floor and in the annual Cityscape Global Conference.

“The essence of ‘global’ is a huge element of our focus this year because regional developers want to access international investors, and international developers want to access regional investors. Cityscape Global is a very advantageous position to bring them together and serve as the fulcrum for alignment and, ultimately, prosperity in a changing global industry,” said Speller.

A ramped-up knowledge exchange format will see Cityscape Global deliver content to all participants over the duration of the event, kicking-off with the annual Cityscape Global Conference on September 24 – a day before the exhibition starts – at the InterContinental Dubai, Festival City.

Thereafter, the Cityscape Talks and Cityscape Intelligence features will take place on the exhibition floor across the three-day show. Cityscape Talks is a free-to-attend live content offering that covers a range of subjects within the various real estate asset classes; residential, commercial (office and retail), industrial & logistics, hospitality, and alternative assets. Forex Firms to Inject $1bn in Inter-Bank to Support the Pakistani Rupee

Pakistani Rupee

To sustain foreign exchange reserves and stabilize the declining value of the rupee, foreign exchange companies on Tuesday announced they could provide $1 billion to the Pakistani government within the next 3 months.

Chairman of Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP), Malik Bostan, at the central bank’s officials meeting stated that the forex companies added:

We have already surrendered $300 million to the interbank market since May 15.

Netflix Partners With Telenor Pakistan

He shared this while in a meeting with the SBP Executive Director Irfan Ali Shah. The meeting was also attended by other ECAP’s members.

The rupee has lost one-third of its value in the past 12 months. Determined to rebuild and reclaim confidence The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said it is determined not to leave the rupee completely to the market forces.

Governor SBP Reza Baqir stated the central bank closely monitors the currency market and in case of extreme volatility, it would intervene and help.

While addressing a press meet on Monday, Baqir said, “Neither fixed not the free-float regime of the exchange rate is good for Pakistan, as former can lead to external imbalances and latter can lead to manipulation.” The presser was to highlight the central bank’s focus on a market-based exchange system.

Sending positive signals to the market participants and expecting the rupee to bounce to 140/dollar with the public support, the association’s chairman reported that the exchange companies gained foreign reserves with the cooperation of people who are coming out to sell their Saudi riyals, dirham, and US dollars.

ECAP official expected that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would finalize $6 billion loan agreement deal with Pakistan. The IMF’s executive board is set to meet on 3rd July to announce its decision which will make way for loan agreements of $3 billion with the Asian Development Bank and $2 billion with the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank by next month. He also reported that a three years oil differed payment deal of $9 billion from Saudi Arab would begin from 1st July.

Within the next three months, $12 billion of financial assistance agreements will be finalized and the foreign inflows will boost the country’s foreign reserves, strengthen the rupee and contain dollars demand in the interbank market.

Bostan also pushed the government to implement a temporary ban on luxury imports. “If the government immediately takes this decision, dollar demand will be curtailed to a great extent.”

Quoting Prime Minister Imran Khan’s advice of bilateral trade in local currency at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s event last week in Kyrgyzstan, Bostan ruled out the likelihood of Pakistan’s default on foreign debt obligations.

FBR Terminates Duty-Free Imported Phone Facility Under Baggage Scheme

Revised-Regulatory-&-Custom Duty Rate for Mobile Phones Pakistan

21st June 2019: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has now decided to withdraw the baggage facility under which international travelers were allowed to bring one imported phone without paying tax on it.

This facility will be discontinued from 1st July. Hamid Atiq Sarver, a member of Inland Revenue Policy had informed the Senate Standing Committee that 80% of phones sold in the markets are imported and a violation against the baggage rules.

Ghous Mohammad Khan Niazi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator proposed that advance 3% tax is collected from mobile phone subscribers and should be withdrawn because it is ‘injustice to the common man’.

Social Media’s Worst Outage: Sources Reveal Possible Reasons Behind Blackout

‘Gangster Guriya’ ft. Mehwish Hayat: Celebrities Slam Influencer for Distasteful Language

osman khalid butt

Upcoming Pakistani movie ‘Baaji’ is one of the most looked-forward to releases of 2019.

It has very recently introduced its first song titled ‘Gangster Guriya’ and needless to say, it is taking the social media by storm.

Featuring the Load Wedding starlet and Tamgha e Imtiaz achiever, Mehwish Hayat, the hot and sizzling dance number is getting all sorts of criticism from the audience.

Ahad Raza Mir & Sajjal Aly are NOT Getting Married in Turkey!

Yesterday, a ‘social media influencer’ named Harris used some very disturbing language for Hayat and the song she is featured in.

Not only that, but he also began a whole campaign titled #QoumTabahHai, which attracted individuals of the same mindset as him and they all began tweeting on the said hashtag.

It caught the attention of our favorite and charismatic hero, Osman Khalid Butt, and he jumped right in to call out the influencer and defend the actress.

Osman expressed disgust on how the ‘influencer’ had not only employed despicable language, but how he also had the audacity to drag religion into his opinion.

Upon having his shameful opinions met with such a strong stance from Osman, Harris tried deleting one of his tweets, but Osman had come prepared by already having taken screenshots.

Shortly after, comedian and writer Ali Gul Pir responded to the tweet in support of Osman.

Ali took things a notch higher by Cyber Crime and FIA, in attempt to report the obnoxious display of hate by the influencer.

The whole fiasco also caught the attention of Mahwash Ajaz, a psychologist, media person and blogger based in Dubai.

Do you think it was okay for the influencer to use such language to express his difference of opinion on the Baaji film item song?

Each short-film was designed and produced by SOC Films and covered the law, its interpretation, and the safety that it provides to the victim. This also included the legislation, as stated in the Pakistan Penal Code, and the various case laws, which have been passed or revised in recent years. One of Pakistan’s leading actresses, Aamina Sheikh lent her voice for the series. AAGAHI has been produced in collaboration with Women Action Forum Karachi.

Kasur Hamara Hai: A Movement that Emphasizes the Dire Need to Address Child Welfare in Pakistan

choona maana hai

Pakistan is one of the youngest countries in the world with the highest number of young people ever recorded in its history. These statistics were recently revealed in a report published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

We spoke with Shimaila Matri Dawood, MD Pak News, and Founder Kasur Hamara Hai who has been working tirelessly on the movement for child welfare. She reveals that the state doesn’t have the statistics for two-thirds of children born in Pakistan as approximately only 35% of children under the age of 5 are actually registered at birth.

Furthermore, almost 11 children are sexually abused on a daily basis in Pakistan, 22 million children have never been to school and an estimated 1.5 million sleep on the streets.

The statistics are also sadly alarming when it comes to child labor, where approximately 15 million children are employed as part of the workforce.

Choona Maana Hai

Kasur Hamara Hai is a movement for child welfare advocating that every child in Pakistan has an equal right to health, education, and protection from exploitation irrespective of their economic background.

Q 1- What Compelled you to start Kasur Hamara Hai?

As a mother, child protection has always been very close to my heart, as is child welfare. I think that when the Zainab incident happened, it was like the final straw where everyone realized that it was now or never.

It was time to act. If you feel strongly about it, then you just can’t afford to be a silent spectator to the brutality that takes place in this country against children. It was then that I decided to get a group of people together who feel the same way. I was very lucky to find very passionate, committed people from all walks of life.

We got together a band of people: well-known businessman, psychologists, retired civil servants, mothers and teachers after the Zainab incident and we brainstormed. What I wanted to create was actually a citizen advocacy group.

Zainab captured the hearts of the entire country. Being a journalist, I know exactly what happens in this country when it comes to children who are assaulted and brutalized. Zainab was a six year old innocently on her way to a class – a girl who seemed like she could be one of our own children.

7-Yr Old Minor Raped & Murdered, Celebrities Condemn Using #JusticeForZainab

If we are all going to be quiet about it, then nothing will change. It’s been this way for the past 70 years since Pakistan’s independence and things have just become progressively worse.

Q2) What are the Statistics of Child Abuse in Pakistan?

According to cases reported, about 11 children a day are brutalized and sexually assaulted – and this is just the tip of the iceberg, as we don’t know how many are unreported.

choona maana hay

What’s sad is that barring one or two incidents that have attracted interest, people still don’t really understand what causes this and what systems need to be put into place to make sure that children are not subjected to this kind of brutalization.

Q3) You Mentioned a lack of Systems to report and register cases, can you please elaborate?

There is a very faulty system of reporting in our country. It’s very difficult to register a case. There is no missing child reporting which is the first thing that should be done.

Before a child gets trafficked, raped, victimized or brutalized, they go missing from their homes. We don’t have a missing child response and recovery system or alert as there is in other countries.

Sindh has an act called The Sindh Child Protection Authority Act. What is missing in this act is any mention of missing children. It is imperative to include them in the category of children in need of special protection.

The first 24-48 hours of critical in locating that child and finding the child, so that bill perhaps needs to be rewritten. We are currently in negotiation with MNAs and MPAs from the Sindh government to work on those additions and make amendments. We also need to make sure that the act is just not on paper but is actually implemented on the ground.

Q 4)- How well has ‘Kasur Hamara Hai’ done in Terms of Awareness, and how do you Measure the Impact?

There are two things that our group decided to tackle on an emergency basis.

1) Create a missing child alert, rescue and response system

Our group decided to tackle this on an emergency basis. There was no proper system set up. So that when anyone goes to a police station or to a CPU or child protection unit, there is some sort of state response and the police can then spring into action.

An alert should be sent out within the district or within the city and even nationally if need be, just like it is done globally and has worked well.  In the USA, just last year, they found 800 children because of such an alert and returned them back to their families.

The first thing we did is we advocated the Federal government, to the Ministry Of Human Rights (MOHR). They have been excellent in this respect especially Dr. Shireen Mazari and even Asad Omar who have both been very supportive.

Asad Omar had tried to table a bill in the last government, which unfortunately did not go through. We then rewrote the bill to make it a bit more effective and then showed it to Dr. Shireen Mazari and the MOHR and we asked if she could have it tabled.

She took it up, passed it to the law ministry for it to be vetted. After some changes, it was ratified by the cabinet and is now being tabled in the National Assembly. It however still has to be passed by the Senate.

2) Create awareness across all socio-economic sectors about the prevalence of child abuse in our country.

This is a topic that is quite taboo but has become less so since the Zainab incident.

Some TV programs and brands have also tried to teach children about the rights to their body but there has not been any sort of national strategy.

We wanted to make 3 TVCs that would tackle various levels of awareness.

  1. Make children aware of their own rights
  2. Concept of consent – in our culture anyone can pick up a child, this goes against the human rights of the child.
  3. Make people aware that if you see something inappropriate, speak up and say something.

As we are just a citizens group, making TVC’s is expensive. However, IAL Satchi and Satchi came forward and made three, 30-second clips to mirror the three concepts in an excellent campaign called #ChoonaaManaHai. The ads were then directed by Sohaib Akhtar of Art Now productions pro bono.

In order to maximize eyeballs, we approached various TV channels to air the campaigns. As per Pakistani law, the channels are required to air 10 % of content pro bono, but because of the current media crunch, they were unable to do so.

We then approached the Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) who was also coming up with a child protection and child awareness campaign. Dr. Shireen Mazari, Federal Minister for Human Rights helped us in getting the campaigns aired on PTV and millions viewed it. A few months later some private channels aired it as well.

It just goes to show that when a group of committed and passionate people works together, miracles can happen.

Q5) What do you feel needs to be done further in terms of more legislature and what’s the next step forward?

Pakistan is it quite a curious country because there are a lot of laws that are already on the books. Sometimes the laws are there but not implemented and there is no execution. Other times the laws are convoluted, in contradiction to each other and even at times duplicated.

There are 15 million children that are currently child laborers in Pakistan but the laws are contradictory. As I mentioned before, children in the constitution of Pakistan have the right to free and compulsory education until the age of 16.

But, in other parts of our legislature, children are defined as less than 14 years of age.  In the provinces, they may be defined differently and may qualify as less than 15 years or 16 years of age.

On the other hand, there is also the category of adolescents who fall between the age group of 16-18 years.

Internationally, of course, Pakistan is a signatory to the two international conventions on the rights of the child. Internationally a child is defined as less than 18 years of age. This legislation has to be amended to make a child who can work full time, correspond with the law regarding the right to a free and compulsory education, which is 16.

There are children who are under the age of 18 that should be not allowed to work in hazardous occupations. A schedule of hazardous occupations exists, but there are various categories of very hazardous labor that are not included in it, for example, child domestic labor.

After the 18th Amendment, child protection actually became a Provincial subject. So, the law that was passed is now tabled in the National Assembly by the Ministry of Human Rights is a law that applies to ICT, like the federal areas Islamabad.  What is great is that it’s being routed through the national rights of the child. So it will be applicable nationwide. Having said that, there is still a need to work with the provincial governments.

Q 6- Why do you think Sex Education Still isn’t Part of the Pakistani School Curriculum?

I think this is a new concept for Pakistan. Approximately 60 -70 % of child abuse cases are usually committed by people the child knows quite well.  It is usually from people within their own homes, families, friends, domestic staff or anyone really that they are in contact with.

As people become more aware of this, there will be more acceptances about sex education. Until now it seemed like it was a foreign NGO led agenda to westernize our children to make them more aware of sex rather than sex education or the rights to their own bodies which is what the ‘choona mana hai’ campaign really is all about.

The campaign has a long-term strategy. It aims to make parents and society realize that they are responsible for the protection of their children and that it’s not about strangers. It’s about recognizing, those warning signs and being able to tackle them and protect children.

Currently, we have organizations working with government institutions and government schools to create a curriculum.

The Sindh curriculum was supposed to include child protection and books were being printed last that I heard. The teachers would need to be trained otherwise there is a chance that things can go wrong. This is something that we plan to do as well.

Q7) Have you Taken your Program to Schools?

At the moment we’re actually making our own training material. We do have a psychologist and doctors on board. They are not satisfied with the literature that’s already present in the market. It needs to be localized to meet the requirements of our customs and religion.

We want to make children aware of the fact that they have human rights. They have a right to say no, to consent about anything that’s happening, and to not be forced into any sort of labor.

They also have a right to an education until the age of 16, which is something that the government of Pakistan and our constitution are required to provide. Of course, in practical life that doesn’t happen. But is important to make people aware of their rights.

Change is going to be a slow process that has to start with awareness first.

3 Alternatives to Try when Truecaller isn’t Working in Pakistan

Electric Vehicles Policy Opposed by Automotive Industry

Electric Vehicles in Pakistan

20th June 2019: The electric vehicle (EV) policy presented by the government of Pakistan has been opposed by the automotive industry.

The reason behind it being opposed is because many believe that it is in contradiction to the Automotive Development Policy 2016-21.

Pakistan has been going through drastic climatical changes due to the high levels of pollution, mainly produced by combustion engines.

To combat global warming, the PTI government proposed an EV policy that will help in the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The government’s policy was based on turning 90% of all vehicles in Pakistan to EV by 2040.

Prime Minister Imran Khan approved the initial draft that was presented in front of the cabinet. It was prepared by the Ministry of Climate Change.

However, local brands have expressed their concerns. Reportedly, the concern is that the policy should not affect the indigenous auto sector of the country as in the case of the US and China.

The sector strongly believes that the EV policy promotes the import of CBU units rather than local manufacturing.

The Ex-Chairman of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM)Mashood Ali Khan believes that EVs are definitely the future but require long term planning.

Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the Ministry of Climate Change to finalize an electric vehicle policy in the next 15 days and present it in front of the federal cabinet for approval.

These instructions were given during a high-level meeting on Friday while discussing climate change in the capital city of Islamabad.

PM Khan had been informed that the main contributor to the excessive pollution in Punjab leading to climate change is smoke emitted by the vehicles.

Renault Vehicles in Pakistan Might Not be Launching After All!

Thus, the ministry officials stressed that a need to promote electric vehicles to reduce carbon emission.

Now, Malik Amin Aslam, an adviser to PM Imran Khan shared that PM Khan wants to achieve a goal of converting 30% of all cars running in Pakistan into electric cars by 2030.

Malik Amin Aslam said:

Most countries are opting for electric cars across the world and Pakistan is far behind in it and once introduced in the country, electric vehicles will help save Rs2 billion worth of oil imported into the country besides reducing the country’s air pollution.

However, given that in a country like Pakistan where the infrastructure is unlike international countries, this might be a far-sighted goal. Nonetheless, the government wants to start somewhere and introduce more changes like ‘Green Rickshaw’ and more.

Various proposals were under consideration to gather financial resources of the project which include Green Sukuk, Forest Bonds and the establishment of Green Fund, a Chinese cooperation project.

We have now to see what policy is introduced and what fruits does it have to give to the country.

This digitalization process has seen the company make a shift in its organizational strategy to introduce more sustained growth. By adopting a leaner, more agile operating model, through automation of various processes, Jazz is not only looking to reduce its cost base, but also improve upon its service delivery mechanism and customer support operations. Unfortunately, this direction will impact about 50 Jazz Customer Care employees nationwide.

“It is imperative to understand that these decisions are never easy and are taken with extreme care and due diligence,” said Asif Aziz, CCO – Jazz.

Jazz is continuously evolving and bringing increased automation into many of its processes in line with the global digital shift. The result is that certain positions which were once critical may no longer be needed because of an industry-wide shift.
