This Rolled Paan Ice Cream In Karachi Has Left People Confused

Paan ice cream might not be a new trend but it sure has gained more attention recently. A new pop-up in Karachi is now serving paan ice cream and netizens have lost their cool over the treat.

Paan is one of the most common treat consumed by people of all age groups. No wedding in Karachi is complete without a small paan cart where people often hop on to try different kinds. Previously, we came across a cart in India where the vendor was serving paan with a hot sizzling brownie. Meanwhile, it seems like paan is going to be the next IT ingredient in the upcoming recipes.

The video was shared by a user on Facebook. The vendor, Ice Rollies located in Dolmen Mall, Clifton, Karachi, started with a frozen plate where rolled ice cream is usually mixed and rolled. He mixed the paan with heavy cream and mixed both until the texture was smooth. He then put some candy and drizzled a little caramel sauce. He moved on to make nice thin rolls and put them in a plastic cup.

The appearance and colour changed drastically and no one at a first glance can judge if the ingredients of the ice cream contain paan and cream rather than a usual ice cream flavour.

Reactions to such posts and videos are always looked forward to. People’s views over such instances are often hilarious and have a twisted take. This video also came with a lot of reactions where most of the people shared their disgust with the flavour. Meanwhile, others couldn’t wait to try it in person.

Smartphones are quite essential to people in the world now. They may not have been important to people more than a decade ago but they are now. No matter where you are sitting, you want to stay connected to the world. In fact, it has become more of a need to stay connected to make sure we are up to date with everything. Smartphone purchases have increased quite a lot in Pakistan. Not only are they being bought on a local scale, but they are also being imported into the country as well.

If we take a look at statistics from a year ago, we can see a considerable increase in smartphone imports in 2021. It is true that there is a major increase in local purchases of smartphones in Pakistan. However, there has also been a surge of imported smartphones in the country. Not only are people buying within the country in bulk, but they are also getting devices from abroad in such amounts too. If we look at the data from 2020 and compare it to 2021, there is a difference to note.

Smartphone Imports Increase

During the time of July-November 2021, $856 million worth of smartphone imports were done. This shows that quite a big part of the population is going after imported smartphones. Compared to the $724 million of the prior year, there has been a surge of 18%. As the reports suggest, this surge has taken place in the last five months. However, we have to keep in mind that this number could have been higher in 2020, had we not been subjected to the pandemic. Thus, it can also be noted that imports might decrease over the next year or so.

Just recently, the government has become a part of the initiative which proves to increase local purchases. This is because quite a lot of brands are entering Pakistan to manufacture their smartphones on a local scale. Until now, 26 brands are on the roster to begin local production in Pakistan. These include Oppo, Infinix, Samsung, etc. While the taxation on imported devices has increased, it seems that people still continue to buy them in a major amount.

Promoting Local Produce

That said, we hope to see more and more brands enter Pakistan for the purpose of manufacturing. The government wants to see Pakistan become a hub for smartphone manufacture. Their aim is to keep the percentage of local production at 90% within the next year or two. Who knows, with the speed, we are progressing, we might reach this percentage sooner than later.

2. Doctor Strange

It is no spoiler that Doctor Strange would be in the movie. Now, we know of Tony Stark’s importance in Peter’s life but after his death (if you haven’t seen Endgame yet I am not even sorry for this spoiler) Peter was lost, and even Happy could replace Tony. While it is not the same relation between Strange and Peter, Spider Man finds a mentor in the Doc and that is something worth watching.

3. Spider Man(s)

If this is a spoiler, I AM REALLY SORRY. In my defense though, it is on the poster as well. Everyone knows that it will not be just Tony’s Peter in the movie. This is why it becomes a much-needed and unexpected crossover. You will love the spider-men interaction for sure.

4. Identity reveal

Except for the Avengers, almost all Marvel heroes attempt to hide their identities. Spider Man did the same. However, as you can see in the trailer, Peter’s identity gets revealed. How will he be targetted, how extensive will it be, and that too, without Tony to guide in Tony’s way is something we would love to see.

5. College Time

For some reason, the other Spider-Men were not as relatable. Maybe it is because of Tom Holland but the Marvel cinematic verse has made the hero more relatable. This is why we feel like this is such an epic growing-up moment as we get to see Peter apply or college and strive to get in one (relatable even for all the graduated fans who are working full-time.

Lahore, Pakistan: Coeus Solutions Ltd released its first-ever remote work insights focusing on how organizations are shifting to remote work, the benefits and the challenges they face as well as the opportunities different enterprises see.

“We have seen an overall shift towards remote work in 2021. Most organizations we talk to have accelerated their remote work plans and now are at least partially remote”, said Ahsan Naseem, CEO of Coeus Solutions. “We talk to organizations ranging from largest insurance companies in the world to even smaller outsourcing companies and everywhere the trends are the same. Nearly 80% of the companies we talked to plan to keep remote work as an active part of their strategy.”

“Communication is still a big challenge.” added Qudsia Piracha, Product Lead at Coeus. “While tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Hangout exist, it’s hard to make teams accessible in the same way as regular “open-door policies”, she added. “Other than this, employee engagement is a huge issue. Remote workers are harder to engage than in-office employees. 64% organizations are starting engagement, recognition, and rewards initiatives amongst the companies we talk to. We see a lot of stats from our platform WorkHub.ai and the trend is clear: work practices have shifted for good!” She further added.

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world. If we were to look at Pakistan only, cricket is the number one sport. It is so deeply rooted within everyone here that you can find a fan in nearly every household. During the days of any cricket tournament, the atmosphere in the country is on a whole different level. In the most recent T20 World Cup, Pakistan had an undisputed streak that left everyone else in the dust. Just before that, we were subjected to ill-placed allegations in the country when New Zealand abandoned their tour.

In fact, their tour took place in the next country they were in, despite there being a security threat there as well. This led us to believe that they might have created a hoax and did not want to include Pakistan in the tour. Thus, a year full of enmity and rivalry followed. However, after that much has happened. New Zealand has made the decision to visit Pakistan twice in the next year, leading into 2023.

According to sources, both NZC and PCB have sat down for mutual talks and discussions. It seems that they are going to be returning to Pakistan to play cricket. In December/January 2022-2023, the team is going to be touring Pakistan for two tests and three ODIs. Additionally, the team is going to be returning to Pakistan in April. Then, they are going to be playing 10 white-ball matches. These are compensation for the tour that they abandoned back in September.

That said, it seems that the Pakistan team is going to be quite busy in the coming year. They are going to be battling out tough matches against the likes of Australia, England, and New Zealand. No matter who comes at us, we are sure to face them with great pride and sincerity. Pakistan is a team that plays well under pressure and the fans are used to such performances.

When Will We Escape This Mentality?

Pakistan can not ever rise about the shallow beauty standards created and their harmful effects unless we choose to. So far, it seems people are happy-go-lucky and they don’t care about improving the situation. Why must we collectively bring down someone who looks different? HEC Introduces Innovator Seed Fund For Students With Startup Ideas

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has added one more achievement to the list of facilities they curate for the Pakistani youth. Amongst making available Coursera programs at discounted rates and providing electric wheelchairs for the disabled, HEC has taken one step further. In empowering the students, the country’s future, they are introducing seed funding for startup ideas that have weight.

Taking it to Twitter, HEC announced that they are launching an Innovator Seed Fund process. Through this process, the organization will see which startup idea has the potential of becoming a full-fledged organization. Once seeing that, they will provide the student with the idea, the Innovator Seed Fund.

HEC delved into the details of the ISF explaining that it is a part of Higher Education Development in Pakistan. This project belongs to the World Bank and HEC is implementing it on their behalf in Pakistan. Should you qualify for the funding, you can get it up to USD 35,000. But that will depend on the budget that you require as mentioned in your plans.

The priority fields

While all startup ideas are appreciated, keeping Pakistan’s situation in consideration, some fields will have priority. These fields include:

Agriculture, Food Resources, and Agricultural Technology
Housing, Construction, and Manufacturing
Banking, Microfinance, and Financial Technology
Health Care and Health Technology
Transportation and Logistics
Education and Educational Technology
E-Commerce and Smart Retail
Sustainable Development, Climate, and Energy
Emerging Technologies
Creative, Digital Media, Arts and Culture
Metallurgy and related subjects
Other sectors with potential for growth and impact

In order to be considered, the applicants will have to apply through the HEC portal. There is a specified deadline to apply so make sure you have your idea outlined to have a strong case. The deadline, for now, is January 15th, 2021. The applicant, however, must already be a startup owner and have endorsement from HEC specified Business Incubation Centres. They should also possess a Security & Exchange Commission (SECP) registration number as per Pakistan’s law.

And if you are not a student but would like to guide them towards success, there is also the opportunity to be their mentor. Of course, it is a facility only for people within the mentor pool. But if you are in the pool, then submit a 500 words motivation letter among other documents to the HEC and wait to be selected.

Hopefully, many unicorns will emerge from this initiative.
