Sarwat Gilani is undoubtedly the queen of hearts. The outspoken and opinionated actress has proven herself as a talented woman many times but her good looks are also not to be missed. On one fine day, Sarwat Gilani shared an unfiltered selfie on her social media but alas, netizens were not buying it.

If you have been a pro gamer, you might know the importance of gaming equipment and furniture. While IKEA covers a massive range of furniture and accessories for home and office use, they are now stepping into the gaming world as they collaborate with ASUS. The Swedish company is all set to launch an exclusive range of chairs, desks and gaming accessories. The “gaming range” collection is coming out next month.

IKEA’S New Collection

The collection includes more than 30 Ikea gaming products in total, arranged across six product families. However, only one of these product families, Uppspel, contains products designed in collaboration with ASUS. The rest are Ikea originals with designs “based on the insights and knowledge gained from the collaboration to meet the various needs of gamers,” the retailer says.

The accessories include a range of gaming chairs and tables and accessories, including a customised pegboard for gamers. More accessories include headset stands, mug holders, ring lights and mousepads.

Pricing starts at $6.49 for the most affordable item, a mouse pad with a polyester top layer, and goes all the way up to $599 for an adjustable gaming desk.

The First Look

The first look at the collection shows the furniture pieces which are somewhat similar to their previous groups. However, they are given an upgrade to black colour to make them look sleeker.

At the same time, some of the products also come in white and beige colour schemes to make the space look more neutral.

The business leader for workspaces at IKEA Ewa Richert, says;

“For IKEA, this is about attracting gamers who aren’t happy with the company’s existing offer of home furnishings.”

Further adding, “We want to reach three billion people by 2025.”

Sofia Wiktorsson is the product design developer at IKEA. She is keen to stress that IKEA’s teams learned “everything” from ROG regarding gaming.

“This is a new area for us, and the knowledge we have is limited,” she said.

Withdrawal of the New Zealand Team

Official Statement of New Zealand

New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said it alerted NZC to a “credible, specific” security threat to the New Zealand team.

“New Zealand agencies have provided ongoing and consistent advice that Pakistan remains a high threat security environment, as outlined in the New Zealand government travel advisory for Pakistan which notes there is a significant threat from terrorism throughout Pakistan,” the ministry said in a statement.

Pakistan And UK Travels

Now that Pakistan is off the red list, people can resume air travel to the UK. Firstly, the country has allowed the entry of citizens who are administered with five of the following vaccines,

The WHO has approved the use of Sinopharm and Sinovac but these are not on the list of approved vaccines for the UK. Mandatory hotel isolation at a high cost is no longer a necessity. However, people travelling to the UK with any vaccines, not on the list, will be put in seld isolation.

Passengers will no longer need to take Pre-departure tests (PDTs) and a lot of the testing cost has been reduced as well. This applies to the fully vaccinated passengers. Passengers who test positive will be made to take a PCR test and it will be checked as to which variant it is. However, those who are not fully vaccinated will receive PDTs as well as day 2 and day 8 PCR tests. The self-isolation period will end when the test to release is cleared.

The government of the UK has advised people to be vaccinated in their resident country before heading for the country. It seems that these changes signify a simplified system that does even cost too much for a majority of people. Despite there being hefty procedures and protocols, a lot of the stuff is now simple. You just have to make sure that you are fully vaccinated. However, if it is the Chinese vaccines, prepare to be isolated upon arrival.

Standard Chartered has inaugurated its first branch in Saudi Arabia. The ceremony was held virtually. Leading the ceremony was Fahad Almubarak, governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).

Microsoft has been working quietly for the past few months. They are backing up everything related to the Xbox. The company is certainly going for the long run, waiting to step in the spotlight. You know they are not going to disappoint because their events are quite eye-catching. In Fall 2021, a new Surface Hardware event is about to take place, by the company. A lot of people are awaiting the date it finally streams. We are excited to see what the company has to offer its users!

Despite there being so much news related to the Pandemic, the company has managed to stay afloat. Not only that, they have flourished quite a lot and are going to move forward yet again. So, let us dive into the details of the event and see what we are to expect. It is a surface hardware event so there may be quite a few products of interest. After all, this is a company that is known to make robust long-lasting hardware.

Microsoft Event Expectations

So far, we are expecting a total of five new surface devices, which are sure to rock the tech world. The company always tends to make impressive releases and this is no different. Four of these devices are among the first PCs which are going to have Windows 11 straight out of the box! That gives buyers a good opportunity to get to know the workings of the new windows. The first product on our list is the Surface Duo 2. Microsoft faced quite a lot of pressure on this due to some shortcomings on the Surface Duo 1.

However, the new one is said to house the Snapdragon 888 processor as well as enhanced 5G capabilities. Apart from that, the device has two 5.8-inch displays on the inside, with a higher refresh rate. Battery size has been increased by 800-900mah as well! Secondly, the Microsoft event might also see the release of Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 8. On the latter, the display is said to be bigger than the pro 7, closer to the 13-inch one found on the Pro X. Just like that, the Surface Pro X is also going to go through some upgrades this fall.

Some More Releases

It seems that the Microsoft Surface Book 4 might just be the highlight of the event. The device itself can be pulled out and laid flat over a horizontal surface to accommodate for writing and making notes. Additionally, there is going to be a larger tracking pad as compared to the surface book 3. The device will have two USB-C ports, a surface connect port, and a headphone jack.

Finally, there are going to be a few revisions to the Surface Go 3. While the price of the Go 3 may remain close or similar to the predecessor, there is going to be some chip updates. These updates could really jack up the experience for people who decide to invest in it and use it. Standard Chartered Bank Donates PKR 23.29 Million To Mayo Hospital Lahore Through Sightsavers International As Part Of Its COVID-19 Relief Efforts

17 September 2021, Lahore: Standard Chartered Bank has donated PKR 23.29 million to Mayo Hospital Lahore through Sightsavers International.

Through this amount, Mayo hospital will purchase 24 cardiac monitors and 25 high-flow nasal canulas. As most of the patients being admitted during the fourth wave are at critical stages, there is a need for this equipment which will help Mayo hospital manage critical COVID-19 patients being admitted in ICUs and High Dependency Units (HDU).

Right from the onset of COVID-19, Standard Chartered Pakistan has played a critical role in raising awareness and supporting communities in need through this challenging period. Supporting communities – in good times and bad – is a core part of Standard Chartered and brings to life the Bank’s brand promise of being Here for good.

In Pakistan, Standard Chartered has contributed USD1 million to Red Cross and UNICEF programmes that are providing emergency relief to communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, the Bank contributed USD300,000 to the Red Cross for the provision of urgent medical support and USD700,000 to UNICEF for the immediate protection and education of vulnerable children in Pakistan.

The Bank also provided PKR19.7Mn to support communities in need in Pakistan. The Bank enabled the set-up of modular HDU units and free testing as well as provided rations to underserved communities and PPEs to our doctors and nurses.

Commenting on the ceremony, Farah Asim, Head of Communications, Standard Chartered Bank said “Standard Chartered is proud to reach the most vulnerable people in our communities through the work being done by Mayo Hospital, whereby we are able to support the delivery of relief that aims to address some of the key challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Asad Aslam, National Coordinator for the Prevention and control of Blindness Program under Federal Ministry of Health said, “Standard chartered has played an instrumental role for prevention and control of blindness in Pakistan through their “Seeing is Believing” program in last two decades. They have invested more than 5 million USD in different areas of eye health including training of eye health professionals at various levels, and supporting service delivery and infrastructure development of numerous eye health institutions nationwide. Last year they supported government of punjab, Baluchistan, AJK, and KPK for provision of PPE kits for frontline health staff by donating around 6 million pkr. Once again they are now supporting Punjab government for support of equipment for the critically ill covid patients in high dependency units of Mayo hospital Lahore. We have been receiving this support through our credible partner Sightsavers who are playing the role of a catalyst and connector for getting this generous support from Standard Chartered.”

PCB releases an official statement

In the statement, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that New Zealand was apparently alerted of the threat in Pakistan and they single-mindedly decided to cancel the tour. PCB goes on further to say that foolproof plans were made for the security of the guest team.

Moreover, PM Imran had personally called the Prime Minister of New Zealand to tell her that we have the best intelligence system in Pakistan so they need not worry. What’s more is that earlier, the New Zealand officials had expressed satisfaction with the security plans as well.

While the iPhone 13 announced by Apple this week is pretty feature-packed, some of the rumoured features we heard about in the build-up to the phones’ debut didn’t come to pass. A few useful features that Apple’s phones lack compared to Android competitors, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S21.

iPhone 13 failed to incorporate some of the fundamental features, including a notch-free design and a fingerprint sensor built into the display. These features aren’t new either and have been available on some Android phones for years.

Here are some of the features which are missing in the iPhone 13.

1. Fingerprint Sensor In Screen

Samsung has built fingerprint scanners into the displays of its Galaxy S phones, the Galaxy S10, which launched in 2019. A fingerprint reader is also integrated into the screens of the OnePlus nine and OnePlus 9 Pro. However, the iPhone is still way behind with the technology. The latest iPhone 13 also lacks the same feature. Even though the face ID can work just fine, wearing a mask at all times has made the feature irrelevant since it can not recognise the mask.

2. Universal Charging Cable

USB-C is the established charging standard on Android devices, and can be used for Samsung, OnePlus, Google, or Motorola regardless of where you buy it. These included USB-C cables are much more helpful than those on the iPhone because you can use them with other devices and accessories as well. However, the case is not the same with iPhone 13 as it doesn’t offer the same USB-C. As it’s the charging standard for Apple’s iPad Air, iPad Pro, MacBook laptops, and the brand new iPad mini, people are hoping for Apple to resolve the issue once and for all.

3. Notch Free Design

Many Android device manufacturers have designed a screen with camera cutouts that are barely visible so that the phone feels more like a seamless sheet of glass. Some of them are Samsung’s Galaxy S21 smartphones, Google’s Pixel 5a, and the OnePlus 9. However, iPhone has failed to switch to a notch-free design, and even though iPhone 13 offers a smaller one, it is still there on the scene.

4. Always On Display

Many manufacturers, including Samsung, Google, and Xiaomi, have all released phones with always-on displays. This is one of the most basic and efficient tools on android devices. However, iPhone 13 doesn’t feature the same and displays information such as the time and calendar events.

5. Charging Without An Electric Outlet

Android phones, including Samsung’s Galaxy S21, Google’s Pixel 5, and older Galaxy phones like the S20 and S10, offer a solution when you have forgotten to charge your device. Samsung calls it Wireless Power Share, and Google calls it Battery Share, but they do essentially the same thing. The backs of these devices can serve as wireless charging pads for products compatible with the Qi wireless charging standard found on most modern phones and accessories.

The Apple event didn’t share any similar feature, so it is unlikely that we would come across this soon enough.

The New Controller Rumours

Nintendo may have a new wireless controller in development based on a report. It is rumoured that the new device has the model number HAC-043. This matters because it shows that it is going to be one model number higher than Nintendo’s wireless SNES controller from 2019. These wireless controllers were already top-notch, can we imagine something better?

Nintendo Is Keeping It A Secret

Nintendo doesn’t want people to find out. As a result, it has submitted a 180-day request for confidentiality to the authorities which will hide all details of the new controllers. Details like photos and actual schematics will thus be legally hidden. However, there are still some things that you can know.

What Will It Be Like?

For starters, the device will also be wireless and use Bluetooth as its mode of operation. We can also imagine what the device will look like from how the FCC label will be placed on it. Through that, it is speculated that the device will definitely be different from the single label that Joy-Con uses.

Some believe that Nintendo might revolutionalise an old design into a new one for this latest release. Gamers are also excited while wondering if Nintendo can finally make a wireless N64 or GameCube controller for retro gaming. It is also possible that this mysterious controller will be a version of the new Pro Controller such as the OLED Nintendo Switch releasing in October. Nintendo has refused to share any information on this new controller and has not addressed rumours of developing better versions of Joy-con controllers.

Does Anything Work As Long As It’s Nintendo?

Gaming fans have learnt one thing: Nintendo should never be underestimated. The company always treads on the unexpected. Just now, it randomly introduced Bluetooth audio support to the Switch via a software update this week. Fans had been asking for it for years and all it took them was a week but it came when they wanted it to.

Pakistan Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan is currently in Tajikistan. He is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State 2021 alongside representatives of 67 companies from various industries. These industries ranged from Mineral and Pharmaceuticals to Textile and Logistics. In this high-class business forum, PM Imran called out a man for reciting poetry.

Being objective in our coverage, we should definitely mention that the poetry in question was not comic or romantic poetry. For the longest time, many revolutionaries have emerged as poets, or have we forgotten Allam Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz?

Accompanied with this statement, the Pakistani had said, “I have a verse for you, Imran Bhai, this is for you. You have become a prisoner. You used to be so great when you were on the container.”

Hence, it is pretty clear that the poetry was a political critique of the PM. Of course, this Pakistani man could have relayed his point in the home country and not at an international forum.

PM Imran responds

And as a leader of a nation, no matter where you get called out by your citizens, it is your responsibility to give them appropriate respect. Otherwise, how can you expect others to respect ordinary Pakistanis? Finding that the poetry was going to be a criticism, the man’s speech was cut off, and PM Imran interrupted, saying that today’s questions and answers should be limited to business questions and not poetry. He further added that they could figure out another time and date for the art.

Pakistan Tajikistan Joint Business Forum

The forum was attended by more than 150 companies of Tajikistan and was held to attract foreign investments. Pakistan Television was providing the forum live coverage. The PM said in his address that they were creative incentives for foreign investors in Pakistan.

In convincing the business community of Tajikistan, PM Imran said that the country has a 220 million population. He also noted that the current trade between the two countries was far below the true potential. Sanam Chaudhry announced a while ago that she is turning to Allah with all her heart. The actor’s change of heart made all the headlines but now she’s in the news for something else. Do we really have to ‘auction’ things in order to do charity? We’re not sure the actress is onto something agreeable.

Sanam Chaudhry’s Latest Endeavour

The former actress recently announced on her Instagram stories that she is selling her Nikkah jewellery. The jewellery is artificial and was worn by herself at her event— she also shared the pictures! Chaudhry says she is selling them or rather auctioning them to the ‘highest bidder’. This is being done in order to “feed the poor”. This is her announcement:

It is refreshing to see people opt for artificial jewellery also for their big days. If one can not afford the exorbitant rates of ‘real jewellery’ it should not mean that they don’t fulfil their hearts wishes. However, to auction something that one gets at such affordable rates at such high prices is unacceptable. She has set the starting bid of Rs.15000 on her set which in the market can be bought for less than1/3rd of this.

Is it okay to rip someone off just to feed the poor? Our religion says that you should do charity to the extent that you can afford to. You should not be selling things just to do charity— though the end goal is commendable, the means, not really.

How Can We Vet The Charity?

If Sanam Chaudhry really wants to do a huge round of charity then she can start fundraising which is another thing altogether. She can inform her audience that this is the purpose, show the benefactors and then whoever donates, donates. In this case, someone may jump to the opportunity to get jewellery worn by their favourite actress. However, there is no way of vetting whether it will actually be used for feeding the poor or not.

Decluttering one’s wardrobe of things they do not need is a great initiative. However, only as long as the things are being sold at reasonable prices. To ‘auction’ something for 3 times its original value seems unreasonable and shady at best. We hope the actress can consider this before this becomes an unhealthy trend in our society. Kudos to her for having good intentions, though, we wish she could be more mindful of the means.

CPEC Projects Worth $15.2 Billion Completed, 36 Under Consideration

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has kept numerous Pakistanis, skeptics and supporters alike, glued to their seats. The skeptics waiting for something to go wrong while supporters hope the skeptics are wrong and most problems of the country would solve. The phenomenon of CPEC even became a household topic but where has it reached in all these years? A meeting was held to discuss the status update and was chaired by Saleem Mandviwalla.

An update on CPEC

According to Special Assistant to Prime Minister on CPEC Affairs Khalid Mansoor, 21 projects are already complete. These were worth $15.2 billion. There are 21 more projects that are under implementation, they are worth $9.3 billion. Moreover, the authorities are considering 36 projects that are going to cost $28 billion.

Further, Asad Umar confirmed that the Karachi Chaman N-25 road stands approved. Breaking its funding down, he said that PSDP will find the Khuzdar-Kuchlak section of the road. The rest of the road will be constructed on the basis of Built Operate Transfer (BOT).

He also mentioned that the present government intends to complete these projects on BOT and decide on the road tariff instead of letting the private sector take care of it.

Intention regarding resource use

Regarding the 36 projects that are being considered, Senator Shafiq Tareen has said that coal is a potential resource. He suggested that the coal can be used for the purpose of the project developments. However, the point was shot down by the SAPM on CPEC affairs who said that Balochistan coal is useless for power generation given its sulfur proportion.

China on CPEC

The chairman of the meeting shared that the Chinese were not happy with the current progress of Pakistan for this corridor. He said that the Chinese want the removal of bottlenecks which he delegated to Khalid Mansoor. The emphasis was on the bottlenecks in the project of ML-1 up-gradation and completing hydropower projects.

Khalid Mansoor said, “I will take responsibility for the implementation of the projects and I will go personally to all the concerned ministries and divisions to implement the CPEC projects.”

Projects in Gwadar

The projects in Gwadar were also discussed. According to Asad Umar, they included technical training institutes, desalination plants, Eastbay Expressway among others. Moreover, PKR 560 billion has been set aside for the development of Southern Balochistan. The funding will lead to the construction of IT parks, power plants, industrial zones, road projects, and dams.
