The singer has secured a place amongst notable stars like Olivia Rodrigo, FINNEAS, The Kid LAROI, and Jimmie Allen. Can you believe Pakistan is up there with those stars? Yes, we can! Arooj Aftab and her singing
Arooj Aftab has secured a spot in the Best New Artist category in the Grammy nominations. Her song, ‘Mohabbat’ from her album Vulture Prince has travelled far and wide. It has been a classic hit since it was released in its hometown but in 2021, it also made it to US President Obama’s playlist!
Aftab is a Lahori and attended Boston’s Berklee College of Music. There she studied music production and engineering and it shows in her work of art. Her work is heavily inspired by classical music such as ghazals and qawalis! Aftab has shared that she grew up listening to artists such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with the classic mixup with American singer Jeff Buckley.

The Grammys Nomination
The Grammys are the highest honours in the music industry which is why this is a huge feat. These awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022. You already know Grammys is a big event!
Having the most Grammy nominations is also essential to an artist’s success! For instance, American rapper Jay Z rose to the top of the list of artists with the most Grammy nominations on Tuesday as he hit a lifetime total of 83. This put him just slightly ahead of former Beatle Paul McCartney. These three latest nominations for Jay-Z were a result of his collaborations with other artists. Jay-Z made guest appearances on DMX song ‘Bath Salts’ and Kanye West’s ‘Jail’.
Embracing The Music Culture
In a recent couple of years, the music culture of Pakistan has incredibly improved. Artists are confident with their skills and share them with the world. Artists like Hasan Raheem, Young Stunners, Maanu and Taha G are all the rage at the moment.
