Windows 11 Finally Gets A Redesigned Volume & Brightness Indicators

Windows 11 Build 22533 is now available for testers in the Dev Channel and it apparently comes with some much-needed design improvements. With this release, Microsoft is introducing a new flyout design for volume, brightness sliders, and other flyouts on Windows 11 operating system.

The update “Windows 11 Insider Preview 22533 (rs_prerelease)” is a preview release intended for beta testing and it is available to Dev Channel users in the Insiders program only. Like the rest of the updates, you can head to Windows Settings > Windows Update, and check for updates.

What’s New In The Update?

Windows 11 Build 22533 comes with one noticeable change – support for WinUI-inspired modern flyouts. As we reported in November 2021, Microsoft has been working on a new look for the volume control menu. Developers found code that confirmed the existence of a new volume slider. It looks like the new volume design is finally ready and Microsoft has started testing it with users.

The new look for volume controls might not be a huge change, but it indicates that Microsoft is trying to make the OS design more consistent. Instead of overhauling the entire look of the operating system, it looks like Microsoft will be updating the design features in bits and pieces.

In addition to new flyouts, Microsoft is also rolling back Windows widgets new entry point on the left side of the taskbar. After installing the update, the taskbar will be reverted to the original experience included in the original version of Windows 11.

Other Improvements In Windows 11 Build 22533

You can now find “voice access” settings from the taskbar. Adding you can also pin voice access to your taskbar or Start. As well as you can now apply 13 touch keyboard themes to the emoji panel and voice typing. You can now WIN + X or right-click the Start button to access a new option called “Installed apps” which opens the page of “Apps & features”. If you don’t like the Clock app, you can now uninstall it.

How To Install Windows 11 Build 22533

Visit Windows Settings and open the Windows Insider Program tab if you have not signed for the Insiders program.
Switch to the Dev Channel if you’re on stable or beta
Once done, simply hit “Check for updates“.
Select “Download & Install” to begin the process.
Click on “Restart now” to apply changes.

The design change comes after 12 years and is indeed a historic moment. Microsoft is rolling out a visual update to Insiders. It will be done through the Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22533 in the Dev channel. Hence, you can access these changes right away if you’re a part of the Windows Insider Program’s Dev channel.

Hareem Shah Lands In Trouble For Flaunting A Hefty Amount Of International Currency

Hareem Shah has always managed to make headlines for all the wrong reasons and this time is no different. The TikToker has become accused in money laundering cases and FIA is chasing her. Here’s what all happened:

Hareem Shah & Money Laundering

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Customs authorities have collectively registered a money laundering case against Hareem Shah. Moreover, these two authorities have also asked the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to take action.

FIA has taken note. They were prompted when Hareem Shah claimed in a video that she was smuggling thousands of British pounds abroad. All this too while travelling from Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) to London! Moreover, she claimed she wasn’t checked anywhere! Naturally, a claim like this was bound to spread like wildfire.

Hareem Shah later claimed the money came from her sister’s car’s sale in the UK.

What Happened Later?

As the claim became more viral, Hareem Shah started denying all she said. She said that the video and her statements were just a “prank”.

Senior FIA officials are working to investigate how Hareem Shah could pass immigration standpoints without declaring her currency. Other reports suggest that the Tiktoker, whose actual name is Fizza Hussain, passed through security counters easily. She had no protocol and departed from JIAP via Qatar Airways.

The Cases Registered

The FIA has proceeded to launch a money laundering case against Hareem Shah. They are also collaborating with UK’s National Crime Agency so that they can seek action against Shah for shifting large amounts of money. The proof will be her video. They will be subject to foreign laws.

This was bound to happen. Hareem Shah had been playing cat and mouse chase with the authorities for a long time now and it was bound to hurt her at some point. Earlier, she had made a video in which she was unpacking liquor bottles. Yet, she publicised it to the world. Now, prank or not, she is on FIA’s radar and will find herself in a tough spot.

What Is It?

The Sindh government has shared an announcement that it is looking to recruit 1200 interns. These interns will be college teachers in several government colleges of the province. Moreover, they will get the stipend that is set for the Sindh teaching internship program (STIP) 2022.

More Details

Everybody who sees the term “paid internship” thinks of the stipend first thing. We’ll ease your curiosity and have you know that the internship allowance amounts to Rs. 60,000 per month. It will be provided to the interns subject to satisfactory performance so yes, you’ll have to pull your weight.

The programme also outlines that the interns would neither be regularised nor appointed on a contractual basis. The hiring period would basically be till the joining of a regular subject specialist. You will essentially be acting as a substitute teacher.

Which Subjects?

Each person knows their strengths and weaknesses and the subject you may be able to teach brilliantly the other may not. The programme will hire total 1,200 internees. Out of these, 240 would teach physics, 240 chemistry, 120 mathematics. Besides that, 120 would teach botany and zoology, 240 English, 60 Pakistan Studies, and 60 Islamiat, Sindhi and Urdu.

Who All Can Apply?

You can apply for the Sindh Paid Internship Programme if you are a postgraduate student. Any 2nd division/equivalent from an HEC recognised university can also.

If you’re under the age of 43, consider yourself eligible.

How To Apply

Applications along with supporting documents i.e. attested copies of CNIC, domicile/PRC (D), qualification/academic certificate, mark sheets and experience (if any) should be submitted to District Education Officer (ES&HS)/Chairman DSCI, of the concerned district within the next 15 days.

LUMS Expels A Student For Sharing An Assignment: Fair or Cruel?

LUMS is one of the top varsities in Pakistan boasting millions of students and a world-renowned faculty. However, the university has started remaining in the news for all the wrong reasons and this time is no different. The university has dealt with a student in an extremely harsh manner and people are questioning its integrity.

What Happened?

A final-year student has been expelled from LUMS. His fault? He shared an assignment with his friend. Recall your university and school experiences— didn’t we all do something like this? After all, sharing an assignment with a friend poses no harm. It can be for reference, for an idea, or as an example. To expel a student just as they were close to their graduation is a cruel punishment indeed.

The student’s friend apparently copy-pasted from his assignment. As a result, the system flagged the work as plagiarism and highlighted he, whose assignment it was and the other, who copied it. Both were sent to the disciplinary committee and this was the decision.

What Is Being Done?

There is an uproar against this decision within the LUMS community also. Students are mobilising for a protest in order to help the member who is in extreme distress. Imagine your effort of 4 years going to waste over helping a friend— it is unimaginably painful.

As the tweet shows, people are also trying to pull attention to this matter.

What Are Others Saying?

People have a lot to say on this matter. Some are enraged at this punishment that is simply cruel and others are questioning the integrity of the committee that judges these cases. Perhaps the solution lies in a balanced committee bench involving students too. This example clearly shows elder members do not have a heart and do not understand the sensitivity of the situation.

Is This A Fair Punishment?

A case can definitely be made against the student for sharing the paper. Did they do it to cheat? In the case that this is established, getting an F in the course is a severe punishment that would deter the student and others also. However, to expel the student is ruining the student’s life and that too of their parents.

iPad With An OLED Display? Here’s What You Need To Know

According to a report, both Apple and Samsung held discussions about potentially working together on a 10.86-inch OLED iPad with the latter providing the displays. However, talks broke down last year as it became apparent Apple’s orders wouldn’t be large enough to make the numbers work. However, talks are underway for the OLED screen panel once again given Samsung could have the machinery needed for the partnership in place by next year.

According to the report, it appears Samsung is looking to expand its Gen 8.5 IT OLED panels to provide the specifications Apple needs at a price that would work for both parties. The machinery needed to make that happen could be ordered later this year and delivered in 2023 — pushing any potential product launch into 2024.

“The South Korean display panel maker’s development of a vertical deposition machine, in collaboration with Japan’s Ulvac, for use in Gen 8.5 IT OLED panel that started last year was ongoing as of January 2022,” says the source.

“The equipment, along with fine metal masks (FMM) used to deposit organic materials precisely on the substrate, is a key technology needed to commercialize Gen 8.5 IT OLED panels.”

OLED Displays

OLED screens – as seen in some of the best TVs around – offer superb contrast ratios and ‘true’ black levels. So far, Apple has only used OLED screens in its phones, such as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and Apple Watch devices, due to the higher costs associated with the technology.

Last year, it launched its first iPad with a Mini LED display (the iPad Pro 12.9). The 11-inch iPad Pro is rumoured to follow suit this year with a Mini LED screen of its own.

Manufacturers

While Samsung requires Apple to order a substantial number of OLED panels to make it worth it for the South Korean manufacturer, Apple could also work with another display provider to meet its needs.

Apple is reportedly working with BOE on larger-sized OLED panels for use in iPads and Macs. Currently, Apple uses OLED screens only for the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Pakistan Railways Launches Pakistan’s First-Ever ‘Reefer Freight Train’

Karachi, January 10, 2022: As a major breakthrough in national logistics & cargo infrastructure, Pakistan Railways successfully launches the country’s first-ever Reefer Freight Train aiming to provide more economical and environment-friendly freight solutions.

According to details, Marine Group of Companies in collaboration with Pakistan Railways achieved the milestone by operating Pakistan’s first-ever containerized refrigerated train in Dec 2021 which departed from the dry port of Marine International Container Terminal (MICT) Prem Nagar, Lahore, and arrived at Wazir Mansion Karachi.

This intermodal cold chain solution is enabled by ‘Pakistan Railways Freight Transportation Company’ (PRFTC) who facilitates the rail infrastructure operated by ‘Pakistan Intermodal Limited’ (PIL) and CMA CGM Pakistan providing commercial support for this new cold chain corridor.

For the past 5 years, Pakistan Intermodal Ltd is playing a pivotal role in operating containerized freight trains in Pakistan and realizing the potential of Reefer containers, operating Pakistan’s first-ever reefer block train carrying 24 Units – 40 feet reefers of CMA CGM Pakistan from MICT – Dry port at Prem Nagar – Lahore to Wazir Mansion Karachi and transported the Reefer box through PakGo trucking short-haul services to Karachi Port completing the journey successfully.

The new operational phase begins with one train a week with plans for this service to operate twelve trains in a month. Freight trains can minimize the delivery time and reduce emissions to the atmosphere of greenhouse gasses. On average, railroads are three to four times more fuel-efficient than trucks. That means moving freight by rail instead of trucks lowers greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75%, on average.

As more and more road-based reefer cargo finds its way to more economically and environmentally viable options. Pakistan Intermodal Limited (PIL) reefer block train system can generate billions of rupees annually in revenue for Pakistan Railways if the containerized freight trains are operated on schedule.

It’s been a few months since the iPhone 13 series was launched. Meanwhile, the news of the latest iPhone edition is already doing rounds on social media.

We’ve been waiting a long time for the iPhone SE 3. With iPhone SE (2020) having launched back in April 2020. But it looks like the next model might be about to land, as a reputable source claims it will probably be announced this March or April.

Bloomberg’s tech journalist, Mark Gurman, has shared the info in his latest newsletter.

“Apple gets ready for its first virtual event of 2022. Apple’s first virtual event of 2022 is coming up in a few short months and is likely to take place in either March or April.”

Gurman also touches on Apple’s second event of 2022, which is likely to be WWDC in June, and this too will apparently be virtual. He says we’ll likely see iOS 16, watchOS 9, macOS 13, and tvOS 16 there, but that was all expected anyway.

Mobile Specifications

The third-generation SE is rumoured to have a drastically faster processor compared to its predecessor. It will be allegedly rocking the 5nm A14 Bionic also found inside the iPhone 12 series. Probably serving as good news to some users out there, the more affordable SE will also keep the home button and with it Touch ID as well.

However, the 4.7-inch display also remains a thing with this new iteration. Thankfully, though, the iPhone SE 3 might be getting 5G compatibility. It is coupled with a fast processor and would completely bring it to the new age of phones.

As it will likely be the newest small iPhone model that Apple will offer. This could prove a crucial gap filler in the lineup. Even though the small form factor is dying out, there are still users out there that are die-hard fans of smaller phones. This includes the more compact iPhones.

While a lot of people are probably more excited about the iPhone 14 range in September, the iPhone SE 3 could be a big seller for Apple. It could show that there’s still a market for small phones – if they’re priced right.

Most evidence, so far, suggests that the iPhone 13 mini hasn’t been a huge seller for Apple. Meanwhile, the iPhone SE 3 could offer an even smaller screen at a much lower price, and pair that with 5G (for the first time in a mid-range iPhone), which might make for an intoxicating combination.

That remains to be seen, and the increasingly dated design that we’re expecting might hold it back. However, there’s a good chance that a palatable price is all people need to embrace smaller phones again – and the SE 3 is likely to offer that.

HEC Warns Students Against Fake And Illegal Institutions In Pakistan

In the latest news, HEC has launched a bomb on students as it came out with a comprehensive list of “fake institutions” operating in Pakistan. The tweet and list, has since then invited the ire of many people. Why is this happening now? Read all about it here.

What Happened?

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) recently issued a list of “fake, illegal, and unrecognized” educational institutions. These institutions operate across the country and the HEC has instructed students to refrain from taking admission in them.

HEC issued a statement on Twitter saying that it only recognizes degrees of chartered universities. In addition to that, it will accept degrees from higher education institutions (HEIs) in public and private sectors and their officially approved campuses.

Where Can We Find The List?

The purpose of spreading this list was so that students confirm the affiliation of a Higher education institute or campus before taking admissions there. Moreover, the HEC also warned students against enrolling in any of the universities and campuses given here:

The HEC also added that there may be universities who are not in this LIST and are in the list but also are not in the approved list may be fake. The commission stated that the list has also been uploaded to the HEC website for the convenience of students.

According to HEC, it is the responsibility of parents and students to check an institution’s status before going there. Otherwise, the HEC is not to be held responsible for the money and years being wasted.

People Are Not Taking This

People are now angry. They are wondering who is responsible for those students who have spent years of their life and their parents’ money and now are told their degree is fake? Moreover, people are asking, why is HEC just making people “aware”? Why is the commission not shutting down these institutions and who is allowing them to exist?
