Atmosphere Fitness – Largest Fitness Facility in Karachi Opens its Doors

Atmosphere Gym

The inauguration ceremony of Atmosphere Fitness, the largest fitness facility in Karachi was held on Wednesday, October 31st.

The gym is a welcome addition to the city, located off I.I Chundrigar Road that offers a convenient solution for those working in the heart of the city as it is the only gym of its size in the area. It also serves as the perfect way for them to avoid rush hour traffic.

The impressive facility is housed in the Al-Nadi Al-Burhani Sports complex, which is a community sports complex itself and covers 11,000 sq. ft of gym space with state-of-the-art fitness equipment for members.

From modern weight lifting equipment to other amenities such as a juice bar, Jacuzzi and steam room, the fitness space has a lot to offer. The gym is divided into five main sections; Cardio, Strength, studio, functional fit, and the boxing ring, each has a different look and feel to it thus making space an all-rounder for fitness enthusiasts.

Unlike any other local fitness establishment, Atmosphere Fitness has a unique fresh air system through the ducts that allow you to continue hustling hard. The Digital integration bit makes it easy for one to track workouts and scheduling them digitally so you know exactly know what and how to go about your fitness.

The event kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorated by the Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah who shared a few words to mark the occasion:

Atmosphere Fitness is a Dawoodi-Bohra community project and it’s here to bring a lifestyle change for the people of Karachi and I am proud to witness it. This facility is truly one of a kind and represents a positive shift in the local fitness industry, a step towards a healthier and fitter Pakistan

I haven’t seen a grander facility than this in Karachi thus by far. I believe it is important to incorporate fitness into our daily routine despite our demanding work schedules, we have to take out time and that’s what I do too. Maintaining a fitness routine keeps me energized throughout the day and with a state of the art place such as this, one is bound to have a good time.

This was followed by a grand gym tour for guests where the different sections of the gym including cardio, strength, boxing ring and studio area were shown. A short presentation by the Atmosphere Fitness team proved to be very informative for those looking to kick-start their fitness goals.

As explained by Mustafa Sadriwala of Atmosphere Fitness:

Our spiritual leader, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (T.U.S), has time and again laid a special emphasis on the physical fitness and health standards for society at large. Also, in the last couple of years, the fitness industry has seen a sudden boom and everyday more and more people are interested in making themselves fitter.

This, we believe, was the perfect time for a facility such as this to come about and make the fitness scene more grand. So with much assurance, I can claim— this is the atmosphere for fitness that everybody has been waiting for.

Prominent personalities present at the launch included Chief Minister of Sindh – Syed Murad Ali Shah, Advisor to Chief Minister of Sindh – Mr. Murtaza Wahab, Director UBL -Mr. Amir Karachiwala, CEO Indus Motor Company – Mr. Ali Asghar Jamali, Ernst & Young Partner – Mr.Haider Patel, Chairman Sindh Revenue Board – Mr. Khalid Mahmood, SAARC Law President – Mr. Mehmood Mandviwalla, Ar. Google Bids Farewell to Yet Another Executive Amid Harassment Claims

Google

Google is stuck pretty badly for ‘covering’ those at fault in sexual harassment cases. However, the brand claims it has fired 48 individuals in the last two years for misconduct.

In the latest update, another executive walks out of the company without an exit package. Google parent Alphabet confirmed that the accused has left and that the company is handling this case as a priority.

A word that Rich DeVaul, a director at X lab devoted to “moonshots” such as internet service from balloons, out came with reports that women employees were organizing a walk-out on Thursday to protest the lenient handling of sexual misconduct in the workplace.

Google Pixel 3 XL Price in Pakistan & Specifications

Alphabet declined to give details about DeVaul’s departure from the company on Tuesday.

A Google Walkout For Real Change account that sprang to life on Twitter late Wednesday said that employees and contractors would leave their workplaces late Thursday morning in respective time zones.

Demands posted in the tweet included improved processes for reporting sexual misconduct and resolving cases of harassment, as well as a commitment by Google to pay and opportunity equity.

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai sent a message to employees late Tuesday, a copy of which was posted online by technology news website Ars Technica.

Pichai said he has heard from many employees on the subject of inappropriate behavior at work and was “deeply sorry for the past actions and the pain they have caused employees.”

“As CEO, it’s been personally important to me that we take a much harder line on inappropriate behavior,” Pichai said in the message.

He said again that Google had fired 48 employees in the past two years — including 13 senior executives — as a result of sexual harassment allegations.

Pichai has met with Google employees about the issue since The New York Times reported last week that a senior Google employee, Android creator Andy Rubin, received an exit package worth $90 million as he faced allegations of misconduct and that Google had covered up other claims of sexual harassment.

Sam Singer, a spokesman for Rubin, rejected the allegations against him in a statement to AFP, saying Rubin left Google of his own accord to launch venture capital firm and technology incubator Playground.

Anushka Sharma Promotes Google Pixel 2 Campaign via iPhone!

Asked by AFP and other media for its reaction, Google released an email sent to employees from Pichai stating that none of the people who resigned or were terminated due to sexual harassment concerns in the past two years received “an exit package.”

We are dead serious about making sure we provide a safe and inclusive workplace. We want to assure you that we review every single complaint about sexual harassment or inappropriate conduct, we investigate and we take action. -Pichai

Concerns being expressed by women at Alphabet have added to the growing chorus of voices denouncing the existence of a sexist culture in male-dominated Silicon Valley, which has knocked a number of internet industry executives at other tech giants from their perches.

Accusations concerning the lack of women in tech jobs and unfair or crude treatment endured by some in the industry have simmered for years, occasionally boiling over.

Another achievement for the country was improving its score from 52.8 to 55.3 in light absolute progress towards best practices. The country worked on 3 reforms to help better their rankings.

The World’s Most Powerful Passports: Pakistan Ranks Low

These reforms included introducing an online one-stop registration system, replacing several forms for incorporation with a single application and establishing information exchange between the SECP and the FBR.

Not only that, Pakistan has reduced the number of procedures, days and cost of starting a business and witnessed its biggest jump in the area in over a decade. On the other hand, registering for properties in Lahore and Karachi became easier and moreover transparent adding to the score.

In order to continue the progress which has been made in the major cities, the government has introduced the reorganization procedure and improved the continuation of the debtors’ business during insolvency (bankruptcy) proceedings for Karachi and Lahore.

The improvement was a result of combined efforts under the Prime Minister’s Steering Committee on Doing Business Reforms.

Bohemian Rapshody

The movie that celebrates the musical journey of the widely loved rock band, Queen and its lead vocalist Freddie Mercury, who was known for his flamboyant stage persona and extensive vocal range, Bohemian Rhapsody is releasing on the 2nd of November in Pakistan.

The Film stars Rami Malek in an uncanny performance as Freddie Mercury, charting Queen’s extraordinary story and their reach to the dazzling heights of international stardom, when they filled stadiums across the world at record-breaking concerts, including the legendary 1985 performance at Live Aid, which was watched by a global audience of 1.9 billion and raised money for the famine in Ethiopia.

As the story unfolds, we witness how Queen’s classic songs were created – from the ingenious and operatic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to their signature anthem ‘We Will Rock You’. It examines the band’s evolution, and later Freddie’s struggle with AIDS.

The movie explores the life of Freddie Mercury who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet who was loved by everyone as he became the legendary star.

Today’s leading musicians cite Queen as a major inspiration.

Honor 8x 2018 : Claiming to Go Beyond Limits

PSO Posts Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 4.2 billion in Q1FY2019

PSO

Pakistan State Oil, the country’s flagship oil marketing company, has announced it Q1FY19 financial results. The Company has reported a Profit after Tax (PAT) of Rs. 4.2 billion. The announcement was made during a Board of Management (BoM) meeting at PSO Headquarters in Karachi convened to review the Company’s performance for the quarter ended September 30, 2018.

Despite numerous challenges, PSO’s gross profit grew by 19% while it maintained its leadership position in the liquid fuels market with an overall share of 40% during the period under review. During the Q1FY19, PSO imported 48% of total industry imports and uplifted 34% of total country refinery production in the country.

The Company has shown a healthy bottom line in spite of a mix of external and internal factors that have negatively affected the local industry growth. These factors include the influx of smuggled products, increasing international price trends, adulteration, heavy discounts offered by new entrants, and exploitation of the IFEM mechanism.

The BoM also discussed key challenges the company has been facing in recent months including the reduction in other income consequential to lower interest income, higher exchange loss on account of PKR devaluation, and increase in finance cost due to higher markup rates and borrowing levels. These have resulted in a decline in the Company’s PAT.

As of September 30th, 2018, PSO’s total outstanding receivables (inclusive of LPS) from the Power Sector, PIA, and SNGPL stood at Rs. 310 billion vs Rs. 316 billion as of June 30, 2018. This is in addition to Rs. 21 billion recoverable from the Ministry of Finance on account of exchange rate differential on foreign currency loans and price differential claims.

The management is continuously pursuing the Ministries of Energy and Finance for re-payment of PSO’s receivables.

The management expressed sincere gratitude to all stakeholders including Government of Pakistan, especially the Ministry of Energy and shareholders of the Company for their continued support. The Management also thanked PSO team for their resolute and commitment as the company gears up to meet the upcoming challenges.

Project Hope: EBM Collaborates with the Department for International Development (DFID) and Reckitt Benckiser (RB)

Pakistan’s leading biscuit manufacturer, EBM has collaborated with the Department For International Development (DFID), Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan and other product partners including Shield Corporation, Shan Foods and Santex with support from the UK DFID -funded Business Innovation Facility (BIF) and Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) on Project Hope, which aims to  empower rural women and help eradicate various health issues such as diarrhoea currently prevalent within numerous rural communities in Pakistan.

EBM’s objective behind this collaboration is to create awareness regarding health as well as the importance of nutrition and hygiene that will help reduce the risk of diarrhea and other related illnesses.

The project’s empowerment plan involves the distribution of baskets filled with essentials for health and hygiene directly to rural areas. In addition, EBM is offering Peek Freans Gluco, one of its leading brands known for its richness in necessary calcium and vitamins, at affordable rates. Project Hope has been designed to help low-income households help themselves as well as encourage them to bring about long-term positive change within their communities.

It focuses specifically on women, who are considered the main decision-makers of the households, to adopt good hygiene and cleaning practices in order to prevent the spread of illness and keep their families healthy.  All the collaborating institutions have come together to integrate this model and scale it up to reach 1 million households across Punjab in order to ensure greater social impact in a sustainable manner.

While speaking on the occasion, Laura Kelly, the UK-based Head of Business Engagement at the Department for International Development, said, “Project Hope is bringing together companies and the greater civil society to get health and hygiene products to new markets. The approach is also helping to economically empower rural women for business and development.”

Dr. Zeelaf Munir, Managing Director, and CEO of EBM, also expressed her views on the need for sustainable development within Pakistan. “EBM has always believed in giving the best to its consumers. The ethos of the company has always been working towards the greater good, so this initiative really ties in with our own philosophy. We have believed in sustainable practices from the very beginning and that when a community grows, so does the company.”

She further added, “It goes without saying that the provision of good quality nutrition has enabled populations all over the world to thrive and succeed. By instilling the need for the adoption of nutritious foods and hygiene, we will be taking one step closer towards the possibility of a much brighter future for Pakistan.”

Samsung Electronics Posts Record in Q3

Samsung Electronics

Samsung Electronics posted quarterly operating and net profits for the July-September on Wednesday.

The South Korean tech giant has recovered from a series of setbacks, including a humiliating recall and the jailing of its de facto chief, to post a series of record-breaking numbers.

The profits have been driven by its mighty semiconductor unit, which provides chips for its own devices as well as competitors including Apple.

But that run was coming to an end, Samsung signaled in a statement, saying that it expected “overall earnings across the company to decline” in the fourth quarter due to seasonal factors in the semiconductor market.

Huawei & Xiaomi Lock Horns in a Brand War

Going into 2019, “earnings are forecast to be weak for the first quarter” for the same reason, it added before business conditions improved.

For Q3 2018, Samsung reported operating profit of 17.6 trillion won ($15.4 billion), up 21 percent from a year ago and a record for any quarter.

Net profit also jumped 17.5 percent year-on-year to reach 13.1 trillion won for the July-September period, also a record, while sales rose 5.5 percent to 65.4 trillion won.

The figures — in line with estimates announced earlier this month — were “driven mainly by the continued strength of the memory (chip) business”, Samsung said.

The unit dominates the global market and the firm has invested tens of billions of dollars each year to build and expand its factories.

It reported an operating profit of 13.6 trillion won, the second consecutive quarterly record, offsetting sagging profits at the mobile phone division.

Mobile handsets once contributed the lion’s share of Samsung Electronics’ overall sales and profit, but the unit reported a third-quarter operating profit of only 2.22 trillion won, down 33 percent year-on-year.

Margins were squeezed in the face of growing competition with archrival Apple for high-end devices, and Chinese firms churning out cheaper devices in the mid- and low-end segments, where Samsung said sales fell.

But investors welcomed the figures and the firm’s share price was up 0.71 percent in morning trade on the Seoul stock market.

Huawei & Xiaomi Lock Horns in a Brand War

Huawei vs Xiaomi

China’s top smartphone manufacturers Huawei and Xiaomi locked horns after Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun claimed that the Mi Mix 3 surpasses the Huawei P20 Pro at the Mix 3 launch.

Whereas Richard Yu Chengdong, the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, clapped back at Lei Jun claiming:

Any smartphone maker cannot surpass Huawei’s P20 Pro in a short period of time. Only we can surpass ourselves.

How to Hide Apps on Android & iPhone

The tussle between the two of the biggest brands over the Mi Mix 3 and Huawei P20 Pro has intensified into a trade war.

While the P20 Pro is the world’s first smartphone to be equipped with a triple camera system offering professional photography at $760, the Mix 3 camera is also quite impressive.

DxOMark, a leading source which ranks smartphone cameras for their image quality and ratings has given the P20 Pro a score of 109 while it has awarded Mix 3 with 103. Both the tech-giants are fighting over market share overseas especially over the European market.

Xiaomi’s chief at the launch event added:

the most expensive ones are not the best ones.

It seems as if a storm is coming, we have yet to see how both brands battle it out and which emerges as the winner of this brand-war.
