Netflix shows have won the hearts of fans countless times, Money Heist is one of those shows that has time and time again proven its success.

This time around, Money Heist Season 3 featured a plot revolving around Paksitani hackers and social media just lost it!

Let’s rewind to the story a little.

Season 3 was heartbreaking, but… exciting at the same time! It was emotional as Rio (Miguel Herrán) was captured by the police in the first episode. But, excitement followed as the remaining members of the gang reunite to bust him out!

What really caught our attention was episode number 2 when the storyline introduces Islamabad-based hackers! It was then revealed a group of 65 highly-intelligent members is helping the Professor (Álvaro Morte) track the data he and his team needs to fight the war.

Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) narrates as we see a group of people engrossed in their laptops.

With money to invest in R&D, you can achieve wonderful things. 3 weeks prior to the heist, we were inside both the CNI’s and the police’s mobile phone apps like WhatsApp.

We can activate their microphones, cameras, and GPS. It took less than an hour to take over the defense staff’s telecommunications. The work Rio used to do was now done by 65 Pakistanis. They are geniuses, thanks to them, we had access to everything.

This was all that was needed to pump adrenaline into Pakistanis and then in no time, social media lost its mind, celebrating the recognition of Pakistanis being geniuses and highly-skilled.

Khan has brought a camel skin vase with a unique painting for President Donald Trump, who invited him to visit the US.

The vase has a hand-painted portrait of the President made by the talented artist Hanifullah Khan, one of the oldest craftsmen in Multan.

It’s a most difficult technique, as we have to make the surface of the vase smooth enough to paint a portrait.

The most difficult part for me was to ace Trump’s portrait because popular personalities from all across the world will have a look at it, -Hanifullah Khan

He was handed the task of making this gift by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to enhance bilateral and cultural ties between the two countries.

Hanifullah has also hand-painted portraits of Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on vases.

No Need to Plastic Wrap Luggage Anymore – CAA, After Strong Criticism from Public and Influencers

Recently, Pakistani citizens could not stop talking about the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’s decision of making plastic wrapping mandatory for both international and domestic passengers.

To facilitate their decision, the authority made sure that prices of the plastic wrapping were reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 50.

However, after major backlash from both civilians and influential political figures, the CAA has been compelled to withdraw their decision.

Here is what the notification issued by CAA said:

The letter under reference is to be treated as cancelled ab initio with immediate effect. Any correspondence made in furtherance of the referred latter is also required to be cancelled,”

“Compliance with regard to the above instructions is to be ensured with immediate effect,”

One of the major concerns pointed out on social media was the fact that this decision would just ruin the initiatives being taken by the government to go plastic-free.

Not too long ago, a ban on plastic shopping bags had been imposed for the same reason and anyone who was found using polythene bags would be penalized.

Senator Sherry Rehman, Zartaj Gul, and Marvi Sirmed are some of the influential people who came forward to protest against this decision.

Making it mandatory for travelers to wrap their luggages in polythene would just send all of the anti-plastic initiatives to waste, regardless of how thick or thin the plastic is.

Indeed, wrapping luggage in plastic is mandatory all over the airports of the world.

Domestic Abuse Allegations on Mohsin Abbas Haider – What Does the Law Say About it?

Mohsin Abbas Haider’s wife, Fatema Sohail has recently come out with domestic abuse and cheating allegations and the story has taken the internet with storm.

With photos of her bruised face and limbs, and an (FIR) that she registered against Mohsin, here is what Fatema had to say:

I am Fatema, wife of Mohsin Abbas Haider and here is my story. On 26th Nov 2018, I caught my husband cheating. When I confronted him, instead of being embarrassed he started Beating me. I was pregnant at that time!

She further added the following dreadful details:

“He pulled me from hair, dragged me on floor, kicked me several times, punched me on face & threw me on the wall. I was brutally beaten by my husband.”

Mohsin has finally broken silence over the matter, and so has Nazish Jahangir, the woman who Mohsin has been accused for cheating on his wife with.

While everyone has something or the other to say on the matter, it is important we take a close look at what the Human Rights laws in Pakistan say about domestic violence.

According to a survey by the Human Rights Watch and according to Thomson Reuters Foundation, 70 to 90% of women (a probable figure of 5000 per year) in Pakistan have suffered some sort of abuse in their life.

While some are killed from domestic violence, thousands end up becoming permanently disabled, out of which most victims have no awareness or access to legal assistance and aid.

But the question is, what does the state say about domestic violence and what has been done to counter this increasingly serious issue?

  • The Constitution of Pakistan gives equal rights and opportunities to all citizens, however, issues of domestic violence are not categorically covered in the Pakistan Penal Code.
  • There is also the Convention on Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (an international treaty adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly), which requires the law to treat domestic violence against women as a violation of fundamental human rights. Many states have consented to following CEDAW, and Pakistan had ratified to it in 1996.
  • The Protection of Women (Criminal Laws Amendment) Act was passed in December 2006, incorporating and modifying several clauses in the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) with regards to sexual assault on women.
  • There is also the Domestic Violence Bill 2009, which set down requirements for the safeguard and monetary aid for victims as well as penalty in the shape of fines or imprisonment for those who infringed the protection orders.
  • The most prominent and distinguished part of the Bill was, Section 9, which offered compensatory provisions for the victims of domestic violence. However, the Bill eventually lapsed due to massive opposition from stakeholders.
  • The Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act 2016 is also mention worthy, which was created by Punjab Women Protection Authority with the aim to protect women from domestic, sexual, psychological and economic abuse, stalking and cyber crimes, perpetrated by their husband(s), sibling(s), adopted children, relatives and/or domestic employers.
  • Under the same Violence Act mentioned above and as a more practical step, Violence Against Women Centres were initiated by the Strategic Reforms Unit, but only the Multan centre currently exists.
  • Moreover, the government and KP Commission on the Status of Women had also drafted a KP Domestic Violence Bill in 2016. However, the Council of Islamic Ideological (CII) rejected the bill in April 2016, calling most of the clauses unislamic.

Therefore, in spite of all these laws and regulations to protect women from domestic violence being in place, breaches continue in to happen in Pakistan and prosecutors manage to escape the law.

No wonder, the Thomson Reuters Foundation had ranked Pakistan third on the list of most dangerous countries for women in the world. The bottom line is that, every legal facility that exists with the aim to protect women requires proofs and evidence.

Considering that majority of Pakistani women are under all kinds of limitations owing to the patriarchal system we live in, it is next to impossible for women to record and accumulate proof against the perpetrators.

However, the good news is that lawyers and Human Rights activists have now started standing up for suffering women and are openly offering help in the same regard.

For example, in Mohsin Abbas Haider’s case, Nighat Dad and Shireen Mazari have publicly offered help to Fatema.

Surely, this should act as a stepping stone to help women not only raise their voice against violence, but also take proper legal action and make sure justice is served.

The internet is in shock after famous Pakistani actor cum model cum singer cum writer Mohsin Abbas Haider was accused of domestic violence and an extramarital affair.

The accuser was none other than his wife Fatema Sohail!

Fatema, in a Facebook post, claims that she caught her husband cheating with Pakistani model Nazish Jahangir last year and when she tried to confront him, he started beating her mercilessly.

Last night, the model and actress Nazish Jahangir finally broke silence over the latest controversy and shared that both Mohsin and Fatema have always been good friends of hers.

She added that she was shocked to her core when Fatema Sohail dragged her into their personal issues.

She wrote:

Whatever’s truth will come out as it is, eventually. Fatima has used a line on me without any evidence that I was sleeping with her husband and all of you accused me of being a homewrecker. Use your senses, if she had any evidence, she would have posted that too as she did of her husband abusing her.

She further added:

I have no idea what happened that she involved me in all of this and accused me of things I could never ever imagine.

While this may look complicated, it isn’t.  Tie your hair in a bun and wear your hijab cap. Then start with placing the scarf at your head and secure the scarf at the back with a safety pin. Now wrap the short end around your hair bun and secure the wrap. Then take the other end and drape it around your head leaving the loose end and pinning it behind your ear.

Accessorize as you like! You can use your entire earring collection that you weren’t able to use before.

What catches the eye, other than the collection that is an epitome of regal elegance, is a stunning model, Saleha Amin, who has her head shaved.

But, what we couldn’t help but notice was how she looked absolutely flawless!

Apple has officially killed off, not one or two but four iPhone models! They include iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S Plus, and iPhone SE according to The Economic Times.

The reason behind this move is to shift Apple owners to upgrade from their older iPhones and encourage sales for the upcoming iPhone 11.

The report reads that the company is trying to  “increase the average selling price of iPhones” in an attempt to “boost both profit and revenue.”

For Apple, the move makes complete sense as it would want its higher-end models to be sold in the markets as compared to the lower-end ones.

OPPO to Invest in Pakistan, Establish Production Unit in KPK

Even though the iPhone 6 series, as well as SE, is widely used and not to forget widely sold, this strategy to ‘force’ customers to upgrade might not work in the tech titan’s favor for much longer.

Eventually, there will be a point where customers will stop wanting to be forced with upgrades and might eventually switch to another company/brand.

ICC Suspends Zimbabwe’s Cricket Team Over Violation of the Constitution!

International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Zimbabwe Cricket Team over the notice of political interference.

No representative from the Zimbabwe team can participate in any ICC event. The team was found violating Articles 2.4 (c) and (d) of ICC’s Constitution, thus leading to their suspension.

The Zimbabwean government was found accountable for abusing funds provided by ICC for the development of the game of cricket amid financial crisis in the country.

This is the first time when ICC decided to suspend a member. Back in 2015, Sri Lanka has only received a warning from the council due to the interference of the government.

ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar expressed his sentiments saying that he was highly-disappointed and stressed how the council could not turn a blind eye on the crucial matter at hand.

We do not take the decision to suspend a Member lightly, but we must keep our sport free from political interference. What has happened in Zimbabwe is a serious breach of the ICC Constitution and we cannot allow it to continue unchecked.

All funds for the team have been seized with immediate effect. However, Zimbabwe will be given 3 months to improve the cricket board’s progress, which will be measured by ICC.

July 19th, 2019: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued No Objection Certificates (NOC’s) to 5 players to participate in Canada’s Global T20 League.

The 5 players who have been granted approval include ‘Professor’ Mohammad Hafeez, all-rounder Shoaib Malik, fast-bowler Wahab Riaz, amusing spinner Shadab Khan and Umar Akmal.

Former skipper Shahid Afridi will also be part of the league. On the other hand, he does not require a NOC from PCB to be eligible to participate in the tournament.

Fakhar Zaman has requested for the NOC but has not been granted one as of now. The Canada Global T20 League will commence from 25th July and will be played in Ontario. The final will be played on 11th August.

June 24th, 2019: Pakistan cricket team has failed to live up to our expectations in the ongoing World Cup 2019 and left cricket fanatics highly disappointed throughout the nation.

However, the  Global T20 League Canada is scheduled to be played in Brampton from 25th July and six Pakistani cricketers have been selected to take part.

The 6 Pakistani players in this year’s Canada’s T20 League:

  • Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz — Brampton Wolves
  • Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz — Edmonton Royals

OPPO to Invest in Pakistan, Establish Production Unit in KPK

CEO of OPPO, George Long during his meeting with KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra on Thursday, expressed his keen interest in establishing a production unit in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

The leading Chinese smartphone manufacturer believes that this production unit will meet local demand for modern smartphones and technology in the country while bringing investment and creating job opportunities.

During the meeting, the Chinese delegation discussed the fruits of investing in the production unit in the province of KPK. Special assistant to KP CM on Science Technology and Information Technology, Kamran Bangash was also present during the meeting.

Long shared that the unit can create as many as 4,000 job opportunities for the local market while providing quality products to the locals. Taimur Saleem encouraged the idea and assured Long that the government will give the brand the needed support from their end.

Asides OPPO, Huawei has also announced for a $100mn investment in Pakistan that will also help improve the country’s slipping economy and provide job opportunities for the locals. Huawei plans on making the future office in Islamabad their regional Headquarters.

Nissan & Mitsubishi Sued by Ex-Chief for Alleged ‘Breach of Contract’!

Carlos Ghosn, the former automotive titan has sued both Nissan and Mitsubishi for ‘breach of contract’.

Ghosn, who is currently under house arrest, in a dutch court, has claimed that both auto giants had ended his contract under “improper termination”.

According to him, both manufacturers had breached his contract for which he is now seeking up to 15 million Euros ($16.8 million) in damages.

The former chief of Renault and Nissan is awaiting trial in Japan on the charges of financial misconduct.

Reportedly, Ghosn is accused of under-reporting millions of dollars in income at Nissan and of using company funds for personal expenses.

Previously, Renault announced it would be taking action against him after 11 million euros of “questionable expenses” linked to Ghosn came into the limelight.

As of now, this is still a developing story.

Former Microsoft employee has been arrested over the charges of allegedly plotting to steal a whopping $10mn from the tech giant in the form of cryptocurrency!

The thief was an ex-engineer at the company. He had planned to steal the money in the form of digital currency from Microsoft’s online store to purchase redeemable gift cards, as reported by The Register.

The 25-year-old Ukrainian national, Volodymyr Kvashuk has been linked to the worst internal fraud in the history of Microsoft as he had used mail fraud to purchase a $160,000 Tesla car and a $1.7 million lakefront home.

He was sacked in 2018 and started to plot against the tech firm to steal from them once again. As per the reports, a total of $2.8mn was found in his bank account over the last last 7 months.

Kvashuk has been accused of stealing cryptocurrency gift cards that were redeemable against Microsoft products and then re-selling the items for a profit to buyers he came across on the internet.

Reports also hint that the accused tried to cover his tracks using Bitcoin mining service before depositing the amount from the sales to his bank account. Kvashuk could face up to 20 years imprisonment and $250,000 fine if proved guilty in court.

After years, this is the first time since 2011 that Netflix saw its subscriber base drop in the United States this spring.

The streaming giant had predicted a gain of 300,000 during the second quarter (April through June), however, it lost greatly.

Netflix still added 2.7 million customers overall, pushing its global base to a record 151 million. But it still didn’t match the increase it had predicted.

The streaming giant acknowledged that this spring’s price hike played a role in the U.S. decline.

“Our missed forecast was across all regions but slightly more so in regions with price increases,” Netflix told investors.

Netflix also declared its below-average quarter was likely the result of a weaker content slate.

“We think Q2’s content slate drove less growth in paid net adds than we anticipated,” the streamer said.

Netflix’s spring programs included a number of Emmy-bait titles.

Viewership stats for all three projects were released, saying they were seen in 33 million, 30 million, and 25 million homes within their first four weeks of release.

As far as the viewership for its movie slate was concerned, Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery was streamed in 73 million homes, while The Perfect Date and Always Be My Maybe notched 48 million and 32 million household views in their first month.

Despite the big numbers, Netflix couldn’t make enough new subscribers.

The streamer says it foresees U.S. growth to recover and international growth to pick up steam this summer thanks to the return of Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, and Money Heist.

“While our U.S. paid membership was essentially flat in Q2, we expect it to return to more typical growth in Q3 and are seeing that in these early weeks of Q3,” Netflix said.

Apple and Disney are both launching rival services this fall, while WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal will have new digital platforms in 2020. While this may affect Netflix in the future, the streaming giant didn’t think the competition was a relevant factor to its decline.

With the popular media giants all set to compete, Netflix is set to lose popular licensed shows like “Friends” (to WarnerMedia’s SVOD service) and “The Office” (to NBCU’s).

Currently, content from NBCU, Disney/Fox and Warner Bros. make up 60%-65% of Netflix’s viewing hours.

Will Netflix be able to replace it with quantity and quality sufficient to keep its current subscriber base loyal?
