McDonald’s & Burger King are Upsetting Children & You Won’t Believe How!

McDondalds

Two British children, 9-year-old Ella, and 7-year-old Caitlin have launched a petition on Change.org against McDonald’s and Burger King.

The petition challenges the fast-food chains to stop giving out plastic toys with their kid’s meals because, like plastic straws, they’re a threat to the environment too.

“Children only play with the plastic toys they give us for a few minutes before they get thrown away and harm animals and pollute the sea,” the girls wrote on Change.org.

The petition has almost 400,000 signatures so far, and their current goal is to reach 500,000.

McDonald’s is studying more Earth-friendly ways to make their toys and A Burger King representative told The Wall Street Journal that it, too, is exploring “alternative toy solutions.”

However, the ecofriendly kids explain that it’s not enough to make recyclable plastic toys. “Big, rich companies shouldn’t be making toys out of plastic at all. We want anything they give to us to be sustainable so we can protect the planet for us and future generations,” Ella and Caitlin stated.

The sisters explained that after they learned about the environment and pollution in school, they wanted to do everything they could to help.

“We put a poster up in the window of our house about saving the planet and we try and recycle as much as we can. But we want to do more, which is why we started this petition.”

Ella and Caitlin are hoping that their petition will make a difference.

What are your thoughts regarding the matter? Should Pakistan also do the same? Comment below and let us know.

Dear Pakistanis, You’re at the Verge of Cyberwar!

cyberwar

Globally, a newer threat is evolving – not for states only – but also for the rest of the private profit-driven world.

Billions of dollars are illegally transferring or stealing, privacies are exposing, state secrets are acquiring, public infrastructure is getting hacked, and whatnot.

This is the realm of cybersecurity; thanks to the IT for connecting the world via internet or digitized, no one can deny the fact that cyber threats are increasing day by day and Pakistan is no exception.

This nuclear state with a critical geopolitical position is increasingly exposed to threats in the cyber realm. So are the businesses and the private sector.

Pakistan with an internet users’ base of 44,608,065 (21.8% of the total population) is increasingly digitizing security apparatus as well as the banking system, which largely depends on internet connectivity.

The ‘Professor’ Behind 35 Hour Heist in Saddar Gets Caught!

Luckily, Pakistan has incorporated laws to tackle cyber threats, but sadly doesn’t cover the threats in-depth and wholeness; while the threats are evolving from varied foes and adversaries, we must assess them and make necessary modifications and rectifications continuously.

For that matter, we should know where we in the penchant of cybersecurity, let’s see what Cybersecurity Report 2019 has revealed.

Where does Pakistan stand in the CyberSpace?

We cannot out-rightly ignore hackers, as the cyberspace is expanding and where there is honey there are bees, the extended usage of information technology (IT) and Telecommunications (Telecom) are attracting hackers to misuse and disrupt the cyberspace.

Attack radar for hackers has also expanded to the extent that they can disable networks – imagine what will happen if the electric grid system, financial, transport and/or military command and control system of a country got hacked? It’s not something unusual, we have been witnessed millions of cyber-attacks targeting infrastructure and services.

Do you know?

In 2018,

It is therefore vital to possess the capability of not only defending such attacks but also the ability to launch counter-cyber-attacks.

I know this is easier said than done, because often the attacker’s identity is difficult to comprehend, especially when attacks are state-sponsored. Also, the asymmetry of attacks that further anonymize the hackers.

Nevertheless, countries must adopt measures and must have strategies for effective cybersecurity – I will help you with that too, but let’s look at some real-time stories of data breaches in Pakistan.

Data Breaches of Pakistan

  1. More than 19,000 card details of 22 Pakistani banks were stolen in a data breach. In the wake of the attack, 10 banks blocked their international transactions. More than 8,000 of those cards later found in the dump for prices ranging from $100 to $135 each. On October 27, the first cyberattack was reported by BankIslami, Rs2.6 million was stolen (within 23 minutes) from international payment cards after that, the bank stopped transactions and requested biometrically verification.
  2. In early 2011, we witnessed the biggest data breach as reports claimed that Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) had created vulnerable mobile applications synching with the API of NADRA, which request details of Pakistani citizen via different means. According to WikiLeaks and Julian Assange, American and British intelligence agencies accessed NADRA’s database and got the hold of the identification records of Pakistanis. Thanks to unregulated e-governance apps, those were engaged in selling online tickets of cricket matches in Pakistan. These apps and credentials got leaked over time, and now the data of a 15-year-old kid is available online for 200 rupees per copy.

Aren’t these situations alarming for the entire nation!

Anyways, it’s never too late.

Let’s pledge to spread awareness and build a nation with head high to face all the malpractices out there.

Be a Survivor in the Current Wave of Cyber-Warfare

Cybersecurity should be defined as the body of technologies, processes, and practices to protect networks, computers, programs, and data from being attacked, damaged, or unauthorized access.

The last ten decades have brought much change to the ways states and non-state actors practicing the art of war; we proudly say this is the “information age,” but often ignore its downside.

In the case of Pakistan, cyberspace has been spreading into banking, education, telecom sector, military, and government sectors.

Some recommendations are;

  •  The first priority is a national policy or a framework to delineate the mission, aims, and goals of the state of cybersecurity. The draft for cybersecurity policy should be with the Ministry of Information Technology.
  • To ward off attacks from cyberspace, CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) should be implemented to the PEC (Prevention of Electronic Crimes) Act.
  • Around 30 to 35 percent of bandwidth lost due to data packets not going directly to the source via reaching varying nodes present at different locations, and that’s why to take additional time and bandwidth. To deal with this, an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) is essential.
  • Intra-agency and inter-agency intelligence sharing and coordination should be ensured.
  • The role of experts, academia, and military in fighting off cyber threats is imperative; having a joint structure for civil and military coordination for assessment and response is needed.
  • The issue of cybersecurity must be multi-sectoral and multi-layered. The national-level strategy is needed to counter arising challenges – in cyberspace and should be enforced and implemented via CERTs (national and sectoral).
  • Side by side, there must be a balance between security and rights of citizens. Any cybersecurity practice will fail if it impinges on legal rights.

WhatsApp 1000GB Data Scam is Putting you at HIGH Risk!

Preventive Measures for Pakistani Citizens

  • Never reuse the same password on more than one website.
  • Report any suspected fraud immediately.
  • Use complex passwords and try to change them often.
  • Avoid using credit cards on non-secure websites.
  • Avoid sharing private information on public WiFi.
  • Monitor your bank accounts regularly for fraudulent transactions; try to implement a two-step authentication method for transactions like; purchases or transactions of Rs10,000 and more.
  • Beware of phishing scams – Never give out personal information in an email or over the phone and don’t open links in an email or text.

LUX Style Awards 2019 Celebrate Women & Their Achievements

The LUX Style Awards is a platform that has been celebrating film, fashion, television, and music for the past 18 years. It has provided the perfect blend of entertainment and on-point social messages.

Additionally, the stage has also recognised and empowered women both working in the background and the forefront. The show is curated by capable individuals, the majority being strong women who have been responsible for bringing this show together, year after year.

From the top team at LUX and Unilever to the director of the 2018 show, Vaneeza Ahmad, director of the 2019 show, Frieha Altaf, official styling, hair and makeup partner each year, Nabila to the Awards Manager, Fareshteh Aslam and this year’s red carpet team of Anisa and Amina Khan, the show is a real-life example of the potential these visionary and powerful women possess. Their hard work and its results are truly commendable!

Staying true to its vision, Lux Style Awards 2019 also gave credit to the women who built the grand show. From Frieha Altaf as show director, to the long list of female stars performing on stage including Mehwish Hayat, Momina Mustehsan, Hina Dilpazeer along with the LUX Girls Saba Qamar, Maya Ali, Meera, and the Chairman of Unilever Shazia Syed to the Director of Beauty and Personal Care Asima Haq, the night truly celebrated women.

Unilever Chairman, Shazia Syed spoke of how the LUX Style Awards have stood the test of time for 18 years and also addressed how Unilever began their journey by first championing the right of the woman, then the rights of the differently-abled and now the rights of the transgender community to empower them and provide them with a safe space for employment.

“But this is just the beginning: we need to transparently continue to un-stereotype not just in our homes but across our communities and beyond. We need to make the tough choices between selling the usual masala VS those powerful controversial messages that have the most impact.”

She also added that it is through these bold decisions that we will be able to demonstrate our bias for tolerance, inclusiveness, and freedom from stereotypes.

“And it is by doing this that we will become conscious and adaptable, and eventually become progressive. And this is the biggest contribution we can make to our country.”

The night kick-started on a strong note where Shazia spoke about diversity, equal opportunity and freedom from stereotypes.

Following the powerful speech, Fahad Mustafa introduced the first act of the night with pop idol Momina Mustehsan featuring Eva B, the rapper who is redefining music from Lyari.

Momina Mustehsan featuring Eva B

Titled ‘Rukay Naa Rukay’, the segment was written, directed and produced by the very talented Afreen Afreen star.

Momina utilized the platform to send an important message to the women of today. Her segment focused on women creating their own opportunities with resilience and believing they are much more than someone’s perception of them.

“This special segment was an ode to the strong women in our society; women who struggle in numerous aspects, yet, always manage to create opportunities and stand up for themselves. This is the first time I’m performing at LUX Style Awards and what makes it most special for me is that it revolved around the women empowerment theme,”

said Momina.

The Camaraderie between Mehwish Hayat & Zara Noor Abbas

The two Chalawa stars spoke about being strong women and how important it is for women to have each other’s backs, especially in this industry. Together, they took a stand to shatter stereotypes about women fighting with each other and creating unnecessary drama whenever they work with each other.

The onscreen sisters also shed light on the idea that to move forward as an industry, women must always stand with each other and support each other,  especially in an era where cyberbullying and social media trolling is common.

Mansha Pasha’s Speech about ‘Breaking Stereotypes’

Film star Mansha Pasha spoke about recently produced Pakistani films that portrayed women as brave individuals instead of damsels in distress.

“Bohat si filmon mein humain larkiyon ke liye aisay roles milay jo hum screen pe bohat kam dekhtay hain. Sirf sharmeeli, dorti bhaagti, nachti gaati larki ka stereotype bohat hadd tak challenge kia gya. Ab larkiyan sirf paharon mein saarhiyan pehan kar nahi dance karteen balkay motorcycle bhi chalati hain,” she proudly said.

Along with her Laal Kabootar costar, Ahmed Ali, she went on to commend Pakistani actresses for the challenging and non-traditional roles that were showcased both on the big and small screens.

If you look back at the LUX history, more than half of the Unilever Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Awards have been presented to women. From the likes of Noor Jahan in 2002 to Roohi Bano in 2010 to a very deserving star Shabnam now in 2019, LSA has always recognized the powerful women of the industry and made them shine on their stage.

Tribute to Shabnam for the Lifetime Achievement Award (Entertainment)

The Unilever Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Lollywood Icon, Shabnam and a nostalgic performance was put together by the LUX girls Meera, Maya Ali, Saba Qamar on some of her classic hits; Wada Karo Sajana,  Chitti Zara Saiyaan Ji and Mera Babu Chail Chabila.

The performances were then followed by Atif Aslam who took to the stage to sing “Mujhe Dil Se Na Bhulana”. He came down from the stage singing and brought Shabnam up to the stage with him as the audience stood and cheered.

Shabnam, who had flown in from Dhaka to attend the event was accompanied on stage by her long-time co-star Nadeem Baig sahib.

Tribute to Nabila & Lifetime Achievement Award (Fashion)

The second Lifetime Achievement was for fashion and this year’s recipient was hair and make-up pioneer, Nabila. The award was presented to the maestro by her sons, Zair and Zahir Maqsood who paid tributes to their supermom.

Nabila has been the recipient of multiple awards from around the world, including 10 LUX Style Awards. She has always encouraged and trained new talent and simultaneously dedicated herself to social causes.

Known for mentoring transgenders, minorities, and individuals from lower incomes and educational backgrounds, among others, Nabila took the stage and spoke about the power and influence of people in the room.

She asked all to #DoMore with their collective social influence.

“Let’s come together and do our bit to build a better world… A world which is diverse, inclusive, embracing and fair for all.”

In short, the night truly celebrated women and their achievements, and encouraged them to shine their brightest!

Brite is Shining Bright with their Latest Communication – ‘Brite Sab Right Kardega’

Brite

In an era where you’ll find fierce competition in everything you do, it’s hard to find a product or a service that stands out among others and catches your attention within seconds.

While myriad brands are constantly bombarding us with sales pitches and discount offers to get their product going, Brite completely took us by surprise with its latest communication strategy.

Under the tagline of ‘Brite Sab Right Kardega’, the brand seems to have brought a level of innovation to their communication, instead of directly hitting on the product’s utility the way typical detergent ads do.

Brite is now focusing more on an emotional appeal, giving a ray of hope and happiness to the viewers to counter their stressors. It reassures them that on a typically depressing day when all seems to go wrong, you don’t have to worry too much, because ‘Brite Sab Right Kardega.’

While an entire scenario plays out initially, the actual product is kept under wraps till the very end of the ad, while you get hints with witty phrases like ‘Wo Sab Right Kardega’, ‘Jo Mood Ko Delight Kardega’, ‘Jo Blue Ko Blue Or White Ko White Kardega’.

In the midst of these, you’ll see different characters in the TVC that depict multiple personalities that you might be able to relate to. The ad has a personal feel to it and it’s interesting to see how that has been used to market a laundry detergent.

brite 1

The final revelation of Brite, by Ushna Shah, has been brilliantly conceptualized. Combined with great production and a cleverly written script, Brite has played smart both ways.

It aptly communicates the core message of the campaign whilst also catering to the emotional needs of the audience, who are always on a lookout for positive and inspiring ads. It is an unusual marketing idea that tugs at our hearts with a touch of hilarity, a cheerful vibe, and some great background music.

With an intelligently thought-out tagline and an innovative and successful strategy, Brite has made a difference with this new communication strategy and we look forward to what the brand will come up with in the future.

“I think I’m Really Loved Over There by Fans” -Atif Aslam Opens about India’s Ban on Pakistani Celebrities

atif aslam

The man with the melodious voice Atif Aslam is undoubtedly the biggest rock star not only in Pakistan but in India as well.

Fever of Atif Aslam has been at its peak in India ever since he started to lend his voice for Bollywood movies.

However, Pakistani artists have been banned to work in Bollywood by the government after the Pulwama attack that took place in the ٰIndian Occupied Kashmir.

Recently, Atif Aslam was asked about how the ban affected him personally and his total income.

Eid-ul-Adha 2019: Pakistani Films Releasing on the Big Day!

The singer appeared on TV show Aik Din Geo Kay Saath where he revealed that the ban did not affect him much.

He said:

My main source of income has always been concerts and they are still running successfully. I recently did a concert in Nairobi and will be doing a concert in Mauritius very soon.

Though the label I was working for (T-series) removed my song initially, they later restored the tracks.

Moreover, it was also revealed that the Indian record label T-series lost approximately 1 million subscribers after removing Atif Aslam’s song.

When asked about this, he said:

It happens. I don’t know. I think I’m really loved over there (India) by fans. Border-ban has appeared often but I personally don’t know the reason behind why my songs were taken off and then were back on YouTube.

The fan following in Pakistan and India is huge, which is perhaps gauged by the numbers. I feel it is due to the response of the fans.

13 Reasons Why Season 2 Review- There’s More to the Story!

Women Will – an Initiative by Google will Empower you to Strive & Achieve!

Women Will – an initiative by Google took place in Karachi on Friday 5th July. The one day workshop was conducted by the tech giant addressing basic issues women face in their careers so that they can emerge as leaders for others.

The highlight of the day was the leadership panel which was moderated by Sarah Liu, the brains behind The Dream Collective.

Women Will Workshop

Women will Workshop

The Women Will workshop was attended by 70 women who are a major part of the industry. These women were nominated by their workplaces to attend the workshop.

The goal was to walk away with a better understanding of how to tackle issues of gender disparity, how to address and overcome barriers and success, and how to gain confidence for a progressive career.

Luckily, we also got to be a part of it

Sarah kicked-off the workshop addressing the fact that women face two types of barriers when they are working, systematic barriers and personal barriers. One of the very common problems women face is pay gap.

sarah liu

Gender Pay Gap

According to an official report, only 23% of women in media, advertising, and other creative fields think their pay is equal to their male counterparts. Whereas only 12% of men in the media, advertising, and creative industry think their pays are not equal to their female peers.

pay gap

During the workshop, many women present shared that it is true and that the pay gap does exist. This is not just in Pakistan, but a global problem. Men are paid more to do the equal amount of work a female is required to do.

stats

According to statistics, women earn 85% of what their male counterparts are taking home. At this rate, the gender pay gap is expected to be equalized by 2078! More surprisingly, the pay gap was learned to only grow with age.

It was a refreshing experience having to get together with professionals, getting to know various perspectives that exist within the workplace.

being able to suggest ways that could go a long way in improving work conditions that would encourage more women to continue working rather than abandoning work life to focus on their homes. -Mehak Zehra, Editorial Assistant, Synergyzer

Unbias Hierarchy

Another very surprising fact that popped up during the Women Will leadership program was that women make up 53% of entry-level employees in digital agencies. However, only 19% of them make it to C-level executives. Iceland, on the other hand, has the highest proportions with 45% women on boards!

However, these stats are starting to change gradually as women have started earning more than their spouses with freelancing opportunities and home-based businesses. More women than men are enrolled in post-secondary institutes in the US, UK, and EU.

Moreover, the majority of the top 10 professions are expected to be dominated by women by 2020, plus male participation in workforces have declined over time. In the US, 51% of managerial and professional jobs are taken up by women.

*These figures are not across socioeconomic levels

The Role of Unconcious Biases

Without realizing it, the role of unconcious bias plays a vital role for women, especially those in the professional world. The decisions we make highly influence the lives of others, such as if there was a discussion of a newly opened position, we usually hear other people say, “he needs to be able to do this, and he has to be responsible as well, and he needs to be mature too.” However, that ‘he’ can be a ‘she’! Thus, we need to start changing the small things in order to make a larger impact and set an example of equal mindset.

If You Have Done It, Own It!

Most women are very shy when it comes to stepping up, be it an important contribution they had made and it went unnoticed or an accomplishment they achieved.

Women Will shared the very important tool of owning who you are and what accomplishments you have made. Sarah shared that women hesitate when it comes to asking for appraisals, they always ask themselves how much do they deserve.

On the other hand, men process differently. They demand an ‘x‘ amount very confidently while keeping in mind they need a certain amount to give at home and ask for what they know they deserve.

There are 4 important tips to overcome self-doubt and help women to stand up for themselves. They are:

  1. Own your success, don’t attribute it to external factors
  2. Stop comparing yourself to others
  3. Do not give in to fear, go after what you want
  4. Focus on your value, not everyone is perfect

The most important thing I’ve learnt from this workshop is the power of silence. According to Sarah the power of silence is the most effective during negotiations.

I have tried and tested this technique and truly believe that it works like magic especially when you want to draw attention to an important point in the discussion. -Sumayyah Aidrus, Creative Group Head, Synergy Advertising

After an amazing first half of the workshop, the young women leaders made their way to a delicious 4-course lunch as an intriguing panel awaited them!

The Experienced Panel & Their Journey

Women Will Panel

The panel consisted of top female leaders in Pakistan representing different industries who shared their stories and background with the audience.

The panel comprised President and CEO of UBL, Sima Kamil -Chairperson and CEO Unilever – Shazia Syed, President of HUM Network Limited – Sultana Siddiqui, and lastly, CEO and Country Head (Pakistan) Acumen – Dr. Ayesha Khan along with Farhan Qureshi who is Managing South Asian Frontier Markets at Google.

The conversation started on a fun note. Everyone shared a secret about themselves that no one else knows. Sarah started it off by saying that she was an eating competition champion with a record of eating 76 sushi pieces.

Farhan continued by saying that he is a cook and enjoys his kitchen time during the weekends. Sima Kamil continued to share that she has been a banker for a whopping 35 years whereas she never wanted to get into this profession as she always wanted to be a writer.

Shazia Syed also shared that despite speaking up about gender equality and empowering women, at home when she asks her son not to go out at night, he responds by saying “I’m not a girl.” She added that she feels like she needs to work on changing this concept at home.

Dr. Khan is passionate about running and has trained for marathons and loves this exercise.

dr ayesha

Last but not least, Sultana Siddiqui shared her interest is to sit and talk in such environments.

Continuing the conversation, Sarah asked these leaders how they overcome conscious biases and unconscious biases. Shazia started by sharing that Unilever’s philosophy in ‘un-stereotyping’.

Dr. Khan added that women at times are unwilling to hire other women because they have a misconception that their employees will not be as dedicated and committed once they are married or have children.

Farhan shared that for him and his company, the first step is to recognize the problem and then stopping and thinking about it helps tackle these situations. For leaders, it’s their responsibility to act upon such things because it sets an example for others.

Kamil shared that one should start from their own selves. She shared an incident as well:

I was on a flight to Quetta, and then pilot came online, it was a woman. And even I, I have to say, though I am gulity about it, for a few seconds i felt quite nervous.

The other day when i was coming back from london, on a huge plane, and the pilot was again a woman, and i did not feel nervous but i felt quite proud of it.

She continued to say the change in behavior will speak for itself. While Siddiqui also stated that women can and should overcome these situations. Furthermore, the women shared that they have taken and implemented in order to provide women with the opportunity to excel.

Sima pointed out that women come across a number of problems, especially the part where they are always brought down, and not considered as equals whereas women are trendsetters and have the capability to do more if given the role men get.

Women in Pakistan rarely get the opportunity to talk about the problems they face in the professional environment. We haven’t really made much progress towards making safer work places for women because the conversations around the issue are usually superficial.

It is great to see an organisation like Google finally showing the intent to go deeper into this multidimensional issue, and is building a community that can now turn words into actions.

The event was a great first step towards the cause and gave me a great sense of security and empowerment. – Sidra Salman, Creative Director at Synite Digital

Qureshi shared that having women in the pitch room has turned tables for organizations. With meaningful conversations and diverse ideas, a company actually performs better when more women are involved in active roles.

Siddiqui shared that their HR requires 30% of employees to be women. The reason being is that women are more focused, clear-headed and are hard workers. To this, Shazia Syed added that while the criteria for men in entry-level jobs is around the age of 25, the criteria for women is 35 because they start their professional careers late due to many factors and companies like Unilever understand that. Furthermore, facilities like daycares have been provided to working mothers as well and flexible timings too.

After the end of the engaging panel, the attendees carried on with the Women Will workshop.

Sarah Liu Shares Her Views about Pakistani Women as Future Leaders

sarah liu

Q. What brought Women Will to Pakistan?

A. There are so many reasons behind hosting Women Will in Pakistan. I think that this topic is really close to my heart. Personally, I believe that when women are empowered, the impact they have is phenominal even socially and economically.

Unless we activate 50% of the population, making sure that they are politically and economically powered to their full potential, our country and our world will simply not be where it can be. So it is a personal issue as well as a worldly one.

Q2. How important do you think it is for women to create opportunities for other women?

A. 100%, I think both men and women need to create more opportunities for women, and more deliberately. There is the commercial benefit of having women, research backs the fact that women are more focused, more productive, and can provide better results when hired by companies.

Q3. Now that you have a better idea about workplaces in Pakistan, what 3 things do you think should be implemented or improved in workplaces for women?

A. The number one is flexibility is a must-have, this is how great talent in the new world actually works, it’s given and a benefit.

The second thing would be recognizing the value of emerging female talent who are young women leaders. I am absolutely blown away by the talent of the 70 women in the room today. So we need to harvest that.

The third thing would be fueling the collective. I think people are so hungry to have conversations. We need to give them platforms and forums to empower them.

Q4. Where do you think the women in Pakistan will be in the next 5 years?

A. I think the only way forward is up. This is not only because Pakistan is at 148 out of 149 on the Gender Equality Scale. But the reality is that with collective effort, and the passion these women have, I am very optimistic. I think Pakistan’s women will absolutely go forward and dominate.

Last but not least, I leave you with this beautiful quote to summarize the importance of Women, not only in a professional environment but also in everyone’s lives.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond meassure -Marianne Williamson

McDonald’s Trolls New Burger King Branch!

McDonalds

McDonald’s and Burger King have known to be the biggest rivals in the history of the food and service industry.

They do whatever it takes to show which brand has the upper hand. McDonald’s decided to take the opportunity of the opening of a new Burger King branch in the center of Brussels, Belgium.

Team Ronald thought that it would be best to advertise their service right outside the King’s home using a billboard which is clearly visible to all the traffic that drives by and even the pedestrians.

The message on the board reads:

Served by a King, or served as a king? Discover our table service at mcdonald’s

The most savage move was using their logo in the form of a crown to troll the whole ‘Dine with the King’ experience.

However, the King also was not going to stay quiet for too long! Before McDonald’s could claim victory, the King’s men hit back at their arch-rivals with a window display reading:

“Beware of This Switzerland Scholarship Scam” – The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students

switzerland scholarship scam

This is the time of the year when students are busy applying for admissions and scholarships both locally and internationally.

Needless to say, most students looking for any kind of scholarships are needy and desperate, so it is fairly easy to scam them.

One of the countries who offer international scholarships to foreign students is Switzerland. Since 2012, Switzerland has been offering Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships to support the quality of education, research and innovation. Over 30 young Pakistanis have availed this scholarship.

However, the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation has issued a warning regarding false advertisements for Swiss government scholarships.

These fake scholarship ads are being sent by email or on social media. By claiming that so and so amounts of money are required to cover travel or insurance costs, fraudsters get the victims to transfer money to their accounts.

The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students FCS has strictly recommended that students pay no heed to such fraudulent offers and avoid transfering any money to their accounts, as the application process for a Swiss government scholarship is free of charge.

Moreover, Swiss scholarships are offered exclusively via Switzerland’s official diplomatic representations in the applicants’ countries of origin.

We hope this official warning will help save you from getting scammed in the name of a scholarship.

The Hamid Ismail Foundation Brings Hope & Smiles to the People of Shanti Nagar in Karachi

Hamid Ismail Foundation

Considering the deplorable conditions a huge sector of our nation lives in, it becomes heartwarming to see an organization like the Hamid Ismail Foundation focus their endeavors towards the betterment of some part of our poverty-stricken neighborhoods, trying to bring a ray of hope to their lives.

In a huge metropolis like Karachi, the citizens of Shanti Nagar had surprisingly been deprived of clean drinking water.

The Hamid Ismail Foundation has taken it upon itself to make an effort towards the living conditions of these citizens and undertake development projects to improve them.

Hamid Ismail Foundation

Recently, on the 11th of July, 2019, the HIF inaugurated a Water Filtration Plant and RO (Reverse Osmosis) Plant that it had installed in Shanti Nagar.

The plant is expected to provide clean drinking water to at least 5000 individuals living in Shanti Nagar, which is a huge step up to their current living situation.

Not just this, the organization has previously helped renovate a football ground in the neighborhood, along with painting their streets and planting trees there as well.

The Hamid Ismail Foundation is an individual effort by Mr. Hamid Ismail, an emerging business leader in Pakistan. He is the CEO of Bisconni, and is recognized as a force to be reckoned with in the corporate world.

With respect to this event, he reportedly commented, “It’s been a relentless effort to install this plant and it has taken continuous hard work and dedication to pull it off after overcoming various hurdles. Our commitment to bringing clean, drinking water to those in need has been strong, and we have been able to achieve what we set out to do.”

Hamid Ismail Foundation

With a progressive mindset and a will to bring a change in people’s lives, Hamid Ismail with the HIF aims to give access to clean water to at least 3 million individuals through RO plants, invest in more developmental projects including playgrounds and parks for children, and improving the environment of run-down areas as part of their undertakings.

A happy, uplifting environment would be a fresh start for many of the underprivileged in Pakistan. Hoping for more such organizations to take up other deserving neighborhoods in Pakistan under their wing and work to make life better for them.
