FBR Sends Notice to Aga Khan, Liaquat National and 174 Other Hospitals for Not Paying Tax

non tax filer hospitals get notice

There is more emphasis on paying tax in 2019 than ever, thanks to the budget introduced by PTI government and its devotion to convert the nation to tax filers and getting us out of debts.

While a huge part of the public is not happy with the new budget, the other part understands that it is important that they pay taxes if they really want to see a change in the country.

FBR has also been noticeably active in ensuring compliance and penalizing.

This Transgender Woman’s Food Delivery Startup Service is Truly Inspiring!

Recently a notice by the FBR is circulating on the web. It is a list of hospitals, renowned and otherwise, who are not tax filers.

“During the task of identifying new tax payers, it transpired that a large number of the physicians and surgeons are registered with Pakistan Medical and Dental Counsel are having thriving practice in Karachi but are not paying taxes on their income.”

Here is the list of hospitals who have been sent an official notice by the FBR:

list of non tax filer hospitals

You’d be surprised to see that large scale hospitals like Aga Khan, Liaquat National, Ziauddin, Taj Medical, are all non filers.

It is high time that non tax filers convert into filers, unless they wish to be humiliated publicly by the FBR.

Huawei Announces H1 2019 Revenue: 23.2% YoY Growth!

Huawei

Huawei announced its business results for the first half of 2019:  USD 58.34 billion in revenue, a 23.2% increase over the same period last year. The company’s net profit margin for H1 2019 was 8.7%.[1]

According to Huawei’s Chairman, Liang Hua, operations are smooth and the organization is as sound as ever. With effective management and excellent performance across all financial indicators, Huawei’s business has remained robust in the first half of 2019.

In Huawei’s consumer business, H1 sales revenue hit USD 32.1 billion. Huawei’s smartphone shipments (including Honor phones) reached 118 million units, up 24% YoY.

The company also saw rapid growth in its shipments of tablets, PCs, and wearables. Huawei is beginning to scale its device ecosystem to deliver a more seamless intelligent experience across all major user scenarios. To date, the Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem has more than 800,000 registered developers, and 500 million users worldwide.

In Huawei’s carrier business, H1 sales revenue reached USD 21.29 billion, with steady growth in production and shipment of equipment for wireless networks, optical transmission, data communications, IT, and related product domains. To date, Huawei has secured 50 commercial 5G contracts and has shipped more than 150,000 base stations to markets around the world.

In Huawei’s enterprise business, H1 sales revenue was USD 4.59 billion. Huawei continues to enhance its ICT portfolio across multiple domains, including cloud, artificial intelligence, campus networks, data centers, Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent computing. It remains a trusted supplier for government and utility customers, as well as customers in commercial sectors like finance, transportation, energy, and automobile.

“Revenue grew fast up through May,” said Liang.

Given the foundation we laid in the first half of the year, we continue to see growth even after we were added to the entity list. That’s not to say we don’t have difficulties ahead. We do, and they may affect the pace of our growth in the short term.

He added:

But we will stay the course. We are fully confident in what the future holds, and we will continue investing as planned – including a total of USD 17.44 billion in R&D this year. We’ll get through these challenges, and we’re confident that Huawei will enter a new stage of growth after the worst of this is behind us.

mahira khan mental health day

Last Weekend, the veteran Pakistani actor Firdous Jamal created an uproar on social media after he made some derogatory remarks against the 34-year-old ‘Raees’ actress Mahira Khan.

The actor appeared in Faysal Qureshi’s morning show in which he said:

MAHIRA IS OVERAGED AND ACTRESSES OF HER AGE USUALLY PLAY THE ROLE OF MOTHERS AND NOT THE MAIN HEROINE.

He further added:

SORRY TO SAY, SHE HAS NO SKILLS OF BEING A HEROINE, SHE IS JUST A MEDIOCRE LEVEL MODEL.

Soon after the video went viral on social media, a number of Pakistani celebrities stood up in support of Mahira Khan and schooled the veteran actor for stating such blunt remarks.

Shoaib Akhtar Reveals Plans to Join Rameez Raja and Wasim Akram as a Cricket Commentator

shoaib akhtar commentator

It is not everyday when our favorite celebrities talk to us and answer our questions.

Pakistani cricket fans got lucky when yesterday, Shoaib Akhtar announced that he would do a live question answer session with his fans on Twitter.

Of course, fans and followers made the most out of this opportunity. From personal to generic, they asked him all kinds of questions and he answered most of them.

Some asked him what he thought about Sachin Tendulkar, while others asked him if he liked Kohli more or Sharma.

The session was fun as he even pulled a leg or two when a fan with a difficult-to-pronounce name asked him a question.

Here’s how he responded:

Yar tera naam he bahut complicated hai. Samajh he nahi aa raha.

“Man, your name is so complicated. I don’t understand a thing.”

However, one of the most interesting questions he was asked was this:

“I await the day you will join the commentary box with Rameez Raja and Wasim Akram. When will that day arrive?”

To which the fast bowler responded with:

“It can arrive any day.”

Recognized as the fastest bowler in the history of cricket, delivering a world record top speed of 161.3 km/h, Shoaib has a YouTube channel where he expresses his feelings on the happenings of the cricket world every now and then.

However, seeing him as a cricket commentator like Rameez and Wasim will be interesting and delightful!

Coca-Cola Embarks on a Journey to Discover the Extremist Side of Pakistan!

Pakistan is a vibrant country with a rich culture and beautiful landscapes, however, in recent times, its image had been tarnished by the tag of extremism.

No matter how hard we try, we have not been able to remove this tag bestowed upon us. Instead of living in denial, maybe, it’s time for us to accept that ‘yes we are extremists but in unique ways that the world hasn’t heard of before.’

We are extremists, but in our hospitality, in our celebrations, in our passion, and love for our friends and family!

One brand that recently took this daring route is Coca-Cola.

A recent TVC by Coca-Cola was an illustration of the above narrative. The TVC went ahead to debunk the popular belief of how Pakistani’s are perceived as extremists in all the negative senses and shed light on behaviors that make them uniquely Pakistani.

This is how Coca-Cola represented real extremism in Pakistan!

  • We are extremists in pouring out their emotions both in happiness and sadness…

  • Sometimes we believe even decorating a bakra can bring us luck…

  • We also believe that the prayers of our nani’s & dadis actually take us a long way, but isn’t this true?:D

  • Our celebrations are also larger than life, when it comes to shadi festivities, our emotions are also at an all-time high and that’s just not limited to the close family.

  • We’re also quite extra when it comes to welcoming our guests with our hospitality, our table spreads are huge..

  • Not one but the whole family goes to the airport to receive our guests..

HUM AIK HAIN

Earlier, Coca-Cola launched “Hum Aik Hain”, its official anthem celebrating the passionate Pakistani cricket fans!

The anthem was a modern rendition of the classical song “Is Percham Ke Saye Talay, Hum Aik Hain” and used music to showcase the brand’s journey through the various regions of Pakistan celebrating extremities of our behaviors that make us uniquely Pakistani.

The anthem provided an ideal base for the TVC, showcasing how Pakistani’s are indeed extremist but in unique ways; in their emotional capacity, in passion, in love, in their hope from Pakistan’s cricket team despite in their unpredictability..

The Real Message

Through this campaign, Coca-Cola breaks all shackles and norms associated with myths and rumors that surround our nation. We are often viewed as extremists with a conservative mindset.

As the new TVC shows, we are a peace-loving and passionate nation. We take pride in being extremist in our love, in our hospitality, in celebrating out festivities and most importantly in hope for a better future.

5 Reasons Rain in Karachi Does More Harm than Good: Time For Us To Be Proactive Rather than Reactive

rain in karachi

Rain in Karachi is nothing short of a blessing, especially considering how rarely it now occurs.

Karachiites get excited at any and every weather update that includes a rain forecast, and start dreaming of umbrellas and pakoras. The sight of underprivileged children enjoying the flooding streets brings back some semblance of joy and simplicity to the generally worried, anxious minds of Karachi’s residents.

However, while rain is great for plants and our hearts, there is another side to it that makes it rather dreadful for many.

Here are 5 reasons rain in Karachi does more harm than good:

1- Standing Water Yielding All Kinds of Infections and Diseases

According to WHO, standing water caused by heavy rainfall or overflow of rivers can act as breeding sites for mosquitoes. Therefore, chances of infections and diseases such as the following are enhanced:

  • Water-borne diseases, such as typhoid fever, cholera, leptospirosis and hepatitis A
  • Vector-borne diseases, such as malaria, dengue and dengue haemorrhagic fever, yellow fever, and West Nile Fever

2- Demolished Homes Rendering Citizens Homeless on Dirty, Flooding Streets

While many of us make the most out of the rainy season from our glass windows and under our safe cemented ceilings, a large number of people are on the streets because the government decided to demolish their homes a few months ago.

A good example of the same is residents of Ghareebabad, Karachi. This tweet aptly explains the distress of Ghareebabadis and how their misery is amplified due to the lack of safe outdoor spaces.

3- Citizens Dying of Electrocution and Other Incidents

According to various news channels, at least 16 deaths have been reported due to rain-related incidents in the city while many areas suffered from power breakdown that were still continuing.

4- Flooding Streets Making it Nearly Impossible for Citizens to Commute

Rain in Karachi can lead to the roads and streets being flooded to the extent that the water can be anywhere from ankle-deep to knee-deep to deep enough to drown half of your cars in it.

Thanks to which, it becomes near to impossible for people to step out of their houses. Not only that, the water also causes damage to both parked and moving cars, which results to the cars either breaking down on the roads or refusing to start at all.

Of course, that worsens traffic on the roads and results to increased frustration in drivers, pedestrians and traffic authorities.

Moreover, rain also causes the occurrence of grave pits on roads, which gives rise to accidents.

5- Businesses Suffering Due to Power Breakdowns and Lack of Attendance During Heavy Rainfall

Needless to say, when it becomes difficult to step out of the house, people are unable to reach their workplaces which results in more absenteeism which causes businesses to suffer.

Moreover, frequent electricity breakdowns that last too long make it difficult to work for employees who do manage to reach their offices somehow

How Can the Mess be Fixed?

Citizens brace themselves for disappointment whenever rainfalls in Karachi get heavy.

Major responsibility to take care of the city falls upon the shoulders of the government and concerned authorities.

Instead of reacting on the situation at hand, the government must pay attention to forecasts and be proactive. The only way these calamities can be avoided is if the government takes preventive measures ahead of time.

The government must put a special focus on housing, infrastructure, and electricity to ensure that citizens can take rain in Karachi as the blessing that it is instead of dreading it for the hazards.
