Netflix shared its desire to join the world of video games. This is being seen as a strategy to diversify as the movie and TV streaming service projected weak subscriber growth. This weak, growth can be attributed to growing competition and the lifting of pandemic restrictions. It means people are no longer always at home and when they are, there are other sites they subscribe to.

The primary issue is Netflix’s slowed-down subscriber rate in 2021. It is currently weathering a downward trend after a mega boom in 2020, post lockdowns. In the United States and Canada alone, Netflix has reported a loss of 430,000 subscribers in the second quarter. This would be its third quarterly decline in a decade.

Analysts do not have high hopes for the future. They are pressurising the company to find new ways to jump-start subscriptions.  According to eMarketer, Netflix’s share of U.S. revenue from subscription streaming video will shrink to 30.8% by the end of 2021. This will be a nosedive from nearly 50% in 2018.

You’ve heard of rent-a-car, but have you heard of rent-a-bro? It’s the latest service being offered in Karachi and it’s weirding people out. Unfortunately, it is a sign of our generation’s loneliness due to absorption into technology— we now need to rent friends!

This service has been started recently and is the first of its kind in Karachi. Their social media has merely 100ish followers which shows that either they haven’t tapped into the market or there is no… market. The rent-a-bro system is created by these anonymous people for a number of reasons.

Their posts suggest that if you’ve just had a breakup, feel lonely, or simply need a companion, rent a brother via their service. In short, they’re giving one friend but on rent. You pay for the ‘brother’.

Details of Service

They have also created a comprehensive list of service guidelines. Firstly, a brother can be rented by anyone. The ‘brothers’ they have are apparently ‘wise, intelligent’ and ‘balanced weight’ individuals. We’re not sure why weight matters here but let’s move on! 

Additionally, the age range of brothers is from 25-40 years old. According to them, the Brothers’ picture will not be shared before because that is only needed for matrimonial services. It appears they have made a proper system based on demand and supply however, we’re unsure of the demand. How many people do you know who would pay for a ‘brother’?

The Race Continues

With this form of work being done, it is no surprise that Mercedes will be able to match up to Tesla. While the race does not consist of enemies, each brand would certainly want their vehicle to come first. The European Union has also emphasised the need for the electric car shift, as global warming worsens.

Daimler said that, soon, 50% of the sales would be from electric cars and hybrid ones. It will unveil three electric platforms,

The carmaker also said that they intend to install quite a lot of battery plants. Four of them are to be installed in Europe and one in the US. The EU intends to counter the battery production being done by China.

There is one sporting event that almost everyone looks forward to. Even if you don’t watch the football WorldCup, you definitely watch these. Yes, we are talking about the Olympics! At the age of 21, in May 2016, Khadija Siddiqui was picking up her little sister from school when a man in a helmet got into a stabbing frenzy. She was stabbed on her neck, abdomen and arms a total of 23 times. Her little sister who tried to intervene was also hurt. The culprit was then identified to be Shah Hussain, her old friend who was angry over Khadija’s break-up with him.

After waiting for three years for justice, The High Court, initially, allowed the man to walk free on the streets. However, the case was reviewed and it was then that he was awarded the bare minimum punishment. 5 years in jail. There are people on death row in Pakistan whose crime is unknown, let that sink in!

Fresh Update on The Case

Unfortunately, Shah Hussain will not even be completing the full circle of this small punishment. He has been released from prison after serving 3.5 years. The news was touched upon by Jibran Nasir who raises pertinent questions for the Premier and the judiciary.

1. Say No To Qurbani At Home

Charity distribution constitutes a considerable part of eid-ul-Adha. But, alas, this Eid, we can not afford the privilege of coming into such close contact when and if we distribute charity.

What you can do instead is pack the food in small packets and take them to underprivileged areas. From within your car, you can distribute the packets evenly. Moreover, you could always go on a drive and keep distributing as you see the deserving people.

4. Shop Online And Only Online

It can be tempting to go to stores to select your favorite outfits for Eid. It’s an undeniable fact that the stock in stores is just better and fresher. Even with brands in Pakistan offering fraudulent experiences with online shopping, you can feel wary. However, please, stay at home and shop online.

Look for trustworthy brands. Brands also understand nowadays that most people are shopping online, so the stock online is excellent too. Ford has created a perfume that smells like gas/petrol to help its users shift easily to electric cars. Make no mistake, this is a strategic investment done only after conducting surveys. You’d be surprised about how many people love this scent.

Ford recently launched its collection of electric Mustangs. Priced at a whopping $59,000 the cars are futuristic and electric. They have everything, however, fall short of only one smell. Hence, to make the transition to electric cars easier, Ford conducted a survey. The survey intended to find out what exactly would people miss most about non-electric cars. 1 in 5 drivers said they’d miss the smell of petrol. Almost a quarter (24 percent) of survey respondents claimed they would miss the performance of petrol cars if they made the swap.

The Mach-Eau Scent 

Ford, as a result, decided to launch an olfactory solution. The new smell it has created will help drivers transition to EVs through their sense of smell.

Ford has also clarified that the perfume does not smell exactly like petrol. The Mach-Eau is designed “to please the nose of any wearer. It blends smoky accords, aspects of rubber and even an ‘animal’ element to give a nod to the Mustang heritage,” according to Ford. The fragrance of petrol was launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. 

What Else Could Be The Reason?

Creating a scent is no small feat. Plus, especially when a scent is as strange as the smell of petrol. Though Ford may have the best interests of its users at heart, it was also looking out for itself strategically.

The ‘Special’ Goat

Ahsan Khan started making videos of his ‘qurbani ke janwar’. He purchased two goats and a cow to sacrifice as a ritual on Eid. According to Ahsan Khan, one of the goats was coloured black and white, which was extra special. He takes the goat’s ear and stretches it out to show a natural splodge of black on its ear. That splodge, according to Ahsan Khan, is ‘Muhammad’ written on the goat’s ear.

One can not determine what is written on the goat’s ear anyway. Moreover, even after seeing it, when Ahsan Khan instructs us to, one does not believe it. It’s just how the goat’s ear is coloured. Why enforce this on there?

WaveMaker was also in the league of three award winners.

  • The first category for the award was Best Integrated Media strategy. Nestlé Pakistan Ltd’s Cerelac – Nature’s Selection was the brand.

  • For the same brand (Nestle Cerelac), they won another award for the Best Social Media Campaign on the Snapchat platform.
  • The third award was in the category of Best Use of Creativity/Innovation. Once again the organization was Nestle Pakistan Ltd. But the brand this time was Nido 1+ Tripple protection.
