In the most recent T20 match that took place between Pakistan and Afghanistan, quite a lot of impressive plays were seen. However, we were not aware of what was happening outside the stadium. If we tell you, you will understand exactly how much chaos was unfolding when the match was taking place. More than 20,000 fans managed to storm the stadium and make their way inside. These fans were carrying no tickets and they stormed the stadium. Due to this, the fans who actually had the tickets were locked out!

Who is going to be held responsible for this level of negligence? Not just that, the fans stuck outside were then subjected to discomfort through police horses and riot gears. Imagine buying a ticket just to watch the game with your loved one or your friends. Then, imagine being stripped away of that opportunity because unticketed people storm the stadium in a desperate attempt to watch the match. These people have no regard for laws, rules and they ruin the experience for everyone else as well

Not only were the fans stuck outside, they, obviously, missed the entire game because they weren’t being let in. Nestlé Pakistan Helps Build Capacity To Manage Waste In Chitral Under TREK Initiative

As part of solid waste management (SWM) initiatives under TREK (Travel Responsibly for Experiencing Ecotourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), a two-day training was conducted in Chitral by Nestlé Pakistan, in partnership with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the World Bank.

TREK was unveiled in December 2020 by Prime Minister Imran Khan, as part of the World Bank-financed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development (KITE) project. TREK was also listed as one of the federal government’s key achievements of 2020.

In June 2021, TREK communication campaign was launched in Nathiagali to promote responsible tourism in the Galiyat region. On the launch, 2,000 reusable bags were handed out to Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) for local tourists and hotel associations. Radio and social media campaigns have been launched; furthermore, signboards emphasizing the importance of clean Galiyat were also installed across the region.

A two-day training titled “TREK for Healthier Kids” was held in collaboration with the Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) program in August 2021. It concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony for teachers, distribution of 4,000 reusable bags, and 2,300 N4HK books to children in Galiyat. N4HK is one of Nestlé’s global Creating Shared Value initiatives that empower parents, caregivers, and educators to foster healthier eating, drinking, and lifestyle habits among school-age children.

An extensive two-day training on waste management and sustainable tourism in Swat as part of TREK’s community engagement initiatives. The training comprised of sessions on categorizing waste, importance of recycling, learning to conduct waste audits, basic food safety and importance of WASH compliance among others. The event concluded with souvenir distribution for participants by Ghulam Saeed, Director General Directorate of Tourist Services and Touseef Khalid, Project Director KITE. We have also donated 2,000 reusable bags among communities in Swat.

Under the TREK initiative, more than 130 public and private sector participants including 20 women have been trained at the three locations of Swat, Galyat and Chitral. The initiative has also engaged the local communities through training and awareness session on nutrition and hygiene for school children of Galyat.

“We are delighted that community engagement activities such as waste management training and awareness campaigns for tourists are coming to fruition, as part of TREK,” said Tashfeen Haider, Additional Secretary, Tourism Department, KP government, adding that Department of Tourism through KITE project is working on SWM cycle by providing equipment to area development authorities of Galyat, Kaghan, Chitral, Kalam and Kumrat. Moreover, contract for feasibility study and engineering design of sanitary landfill sites have been awarded through the KITE project.

Kiran Afzal, Senior Private Sector Specialist, of the World Bank shared, “KITE project is now implementing activities for tourist facilitation in Chitral which will be complemented by TREK’s initiatives for SWM.”

Talking about the initiative, Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, Nestlé in Pakistan & Afghanistan said, “Our partnership with the government on TREK, will help realise our vision for shaping a waste-free future, by driving new behavior for a cleaner environment.”

“At Nestlé, our vision is that none of our packaging, including plastics, ends up in landfills or rivers. To achieve this, we have set ourselves the commitment of ensuring 100% of our packaging is reusable or recyclable by 2025,” he added.

The two-day SWM training comprised of sessions on categorizing waste, the importance of recycling, learning to conduct waste audits, basic food safety, and the importance of WASH compliance among others. The event concluded with souvenir distribution for participants by Ghulam Saeed, Director General Directorate of Tourist Services, Hassan Abid, Deputy Commissioner Chitral, and Touseef Khalid Project Director KITE.

Nestlé Pakistan’s commitment to TREK includes 2 pillars: A massive awareness campaign focusing on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and a Community Engagement plan which includes activities that will help in countering the issues of waste, pollution, and destruction of wildlife, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 15 and 17.

Summers might have gone, but that doesn’t mean you have to let go of all the thing that makes you happy. Since it’s the pomegranate season, it is only given that we make the most of it because the season doesn’t last long anyway. While you might not be willing to go traditional, I’m tempted to switch you to pomegranate popsicles because who says they are just for the summers? Let’s take a look at some pomegranate popsicle recipes, which you can make and enjoy at home.

1. Pomegranate And Limeade Popsicle 

These aesthetically pleasing and delicious popsicles are everything you need this season. I mean, look at those frozen seeds in the popsicle. Who would not want to indulge in one?

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup lime juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup water
  • One pomegranate

Instructions

  1. Mix 1/3 cup of lime juice, 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 1/2 cups of water thoroughly until all the sugar is completely dissolved. This recipe for limeade is a bit sweeter than I like, but you need to make your popsicle base on the sweet side as it will not taste as sweet when frozen.
  2. Add the juice to your popsicle mould, but do not fill each one. We are going to add pomegranate seeds next.
  3. Seed 1 pomegranate.
  4. Add the arils to the mould. You don’t want the pops to be jam-packed, but the seeds should be evenly dispersed throughout.
  5. Freeze for at least 7 to 10 hours as you want these pops to be rock hard. The pomegranate seeds will slightly compromise the pop structure, so they must be frozen solid to prevent breakage.

2. Three-Ingredient Pomegranate Popsicles

Here is a simple three-ingredient recipe of mind-blowing popsicles to cool down yourself. The recipe will take only ten minutes but will make you wanting for more.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Water

Instructions

  1. De-seed the pomegranate and take the seeds in a mixer grinder jar. Leave a few seeds for later. Squeeze half a lemon juice and add sugar as per taste.
  2. Add water and blitz until it becomes juicy.
  3. Strain the juice with a strainer and taste it. If required, add sugar or lemon juice.
  4. Prepare the moulds by adding a few pomegranate seeds in each mould.
  5. Pour the pomegranate juice into popsicles moulds.
  6. Place a pop stick in the centre and refrigerate it for a few hours.
  7. Once frozen, remove the pomegranate pops from mould and serve chilled.

3. Sugar-Free Pomegranate Popsicles

What could be better than an icy-cold Pomegranate Popsicle made with 100% juice for a healthy, superfood treat with no added sugar? This healthy treat is perfect for kids and adults.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 100% pomegranate juice
  • 2 tablespoons freshly-squeezed lime juice (from about one medium lime)

Instructions

  1. Combine the pomegranate juice and lime juice into a pitcher. Stir the liquid.
  2. Divide the pomegranate juice evenly into approximately six popsicles moulds.
  3. Freeze them for about 4 hours before removing them from the moulds and serving cold.

4. Pomegranate-Yogurt Ice Pops

This is a colourful treat perfect for children and their parties. The combination of creamy yoghurt and sweet/sour pomegranate is wonderful yet healthy.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup pomegranate juice
  • 2/3 cup yoghurt
  • One tablespoon honey
  • One vanilla bean
  • Seeds from 1 pomegranate

Instructions

  1. Pour equal amounts of pomegranate juice into 1/4 cup ice pop moulds, filling each one halfway. Freeze for 1 hour, or until the liquid is beginning to harden but is not entirely frozen.
  2. In a bowl, combine the yoghurt and honey. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into the bowl. Stir to combine.
  3. Remove the moulds from the freezer, push in the sticks, and top up with the yoghurt mixture. To get a marbled effect, stir the pomegranate and the yoghurt together briefly. Finish with a sprinkling of seeds. Return to the freezer for several hours or until completely frozen.

5. Pomegranate Coconut Water Popsicles

Last but definitely not least, we have for you the Pomegranate Coconut Water Popsicles.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp pomegranate seeds
  • 250 ml coconut water

Instructions

  1. Place one tablespoon of pomegranate seeds into the bottom of each popsicle mould and then fill to the top with coconut water.
  2. Place in the freezer for about an hour or until the coconut water has started to freeze. Remove the mould from the freezer and, using a knife, stir the coconut water and pomegranate seeds. The seeds should have naturally sunk to the bottom, but by sirring everything now when the coconut water has become more solid, you should be able to disperse them throughout the whole popsicle. Pop the lid back on the popsicle mould and insert the wooden stick.
  3. Return to the freezer for another 2-3 hours or overnight.

Pakistan’s remarkable victory against India and New Zealand has made the nation proud. Even though it is just a beginning, the celebrations are nowhere to stop. Recently Karachi University announced full paid scholarships for the Pakistani T20 squad.

The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor Karachi University Professor Khalid Iraqi in a video statement. Prof. Khalid Iraqi further said that the Pakistan cricket team will also visit Karachi University. “The players will be able to get free education at University of Karachi,” he added.

“Karachi University will bear all academic expenses of all members of the Pakistan T20 World Cup squad, including captain Babar Azam as well as wicketkeeper and batter Mohammad Rizwan if they opt to study at the university.”

Man Finds Dead Lizard In Sealed Fried Pakora Packet & This Is Gross

There are two kinds of people in the world; one category that eats to live, and the other that lives to eat. Neither party likes it when someone messes with their food. Conclusion: people who mess with food, are they even people? But someone messed with food surely because a dead lizard was found in a pakora packet.

The incident happened in India and was reported by a citizen who took it to social media by uploading a picture. He allegedly bought the pakora packet from a halwai shop as we call it. The shop is located in Tirunelveli district, Palayamkottai town. It is being claimed that the transaction happened on October 23rd between the shop and the man from Maharaja Nagar. Upon reaching home and opening the packet, he found a dead lizard.

Filing complaint

The man took the picture because he must have felt horrified. But clearly, he did not know how to proceed. It was after two days that the man finally filed the complaint and that too via WhatsApp with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The officials jumped into action because the image was already circulating the internet and people were finding the event absolutely gross.

When these officials reached the shop in question, they found it to be violating several of the FSSAI regulation. Hence, the shop was shut down for a day. After the officials made sure that the violations were rectified and the owner submitted a written undertaking, they allowed them to reopen.

Legal authority of complaint

But was the complaint filed legally? Not so much. The FSSAI authorities conducted the visit based on just the images from the sender. However, they could not file a complaint because there was no proof if the lizard was planted or not as no picture was taken before the packet was opened. Here, logic takes a back seat in this requirement because no one expects to find shady ingredients in a pakora packet. There is, hence, absolutely no reason why the unboxing should be documented.

As for the argument that the complaint was sent two days after the incident, it does not hold significance because not everyone has access to the WhatsApp contact of authorities or knows about complaint procedures.

That said, the officials have sent the items found in the shop to the lab for testing; pakoras were not available at the time, however.

The shop owners have stated their stance as well. They say that it was a false claim. According to the owners, the lizard was planted and the buyer was blackmailing and asking for PKR 20 lac ransom. The officials also secured CCTV footage of the buyer having a conversation with the owner prior to complaining.

PSO Sets All-Time Records As Profits Soar In Q1FY22

October 28, 2021: Pakistan State Oil continues to assert its dominance in the energy market as it outperforms the industry, demonstrating its resilience and strength despite the lingering impacts of the pandemic. The market leader reported an all-time high net profit after tax of PKR 11.9 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2021-22 (Q1FY22), a growth of 133% compared to the same period last year.

PSO’s Board of Management reviewed the performance of the company together with its subsidiary Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) for the first quarter ended September 30, 2021, during the meeting held at PSO House, Karachi on October 28, 2021. The group collectively posted a net profit after tax of PKR 11.7 billion (Q1FY21: PKR 5.2 billion).

PSO’s aggressive market penetration and growth strategy resulted in an increase in market share across its diverse portfolios, achieving substantial volumetric growth compared to the same period last year. A cumulative volume growth of 22.4% in white oil and 40.5% in black oil was witnessed during the period. The company’s market share increased by 2.1% in white oil to 47.7% and by 8.0% in black oil to 64.5%. PSO continued to fast track infrastructural projects to gain operational efficiency and expand its business, adding 13 new outlets to the company’s extensive retail footprint, while also working on rehabilitation and new storages.

“PSO is leading the market by a large margin, delivering a phenomenal performance over and above the industry average. Creating value for our shareholders is key to the long-term resilience and value of our business as we keep sustainability as the cornerstone of our corporate strategy” said Chairman, PSO Board of Management, Mr Zafar I. Usmani.
First quarter results suggest the outlook for the rest of the financial year remains bright, despite the challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are keeping the pace high, both operationally and strategically. The record result in the first quarter of the year is clear evidence of our resilience, strength and commitment to serve the nation, keeping our customers at the heart of everything we do.” said Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director PSO, Syed Taha.

As a responsible corporate citizen, PSO, through its CSR Trust extended support of PKR 30 million in healthcare, launching a massive nationwide campaign in collaboration with NCOC, inoculating approximately 150,000 citizens in all corners of the country through vaccination centers and mobile vaccination vans. The Board noted that receivables from the power sector and SNGPL increased by PKR 12.4 billion and PKR 17.1 billion compared to June 30, 2021. SNGPL’s receivables increased to PKR 115.7 billion becoming a growing area of concern for PSO’s financial health.

Apple Being Sued

It seems that the company is being sued over not including chargers with the iPhone 12. One of the students got frustrated because they did not include any chargers with the iPhone 12. Apple claims that the reason for this is to reduce carbon emissions and save the environment. However, the students are under the impression that Apple has a financial motive behind it. In fact, they said that this causes quite a lot of inconvenience to any user.

The student also points out that since the cable, that comes with the device, is USB-C to lightning, it cannot work with previous chargers. Older chargers don’t have the ability to work this cable and thus one has to purchase a new one. Additionally, this means an extra cost going towards either wall chargers or MagSafe chargers. We think that the company may have also excluded chargers because 5G is already going to make the expensive.

The Tech Stands

The results of the case have not been reached yet. Students are demanding that a fee of 100 Yuan ($16) and provided a wall charger, on account of breach of contract and litigation fee. Apple’s representative argued that it is common for companies to leave out chargers now and it has been clearly mentioned on the iPhone 12’s packaging.

Disney faced a similar lawsuit a while back when a Chinese student demanded a $7 fee for not letting customers bring food to the park. The statements here are the main point, not the money that is being gained from the lawsuits. However, Disney did concede and agree to pay. Apple is showing no signs of such behaviour yet. We can only keep an eye and see how events unfold here.

Coca-Cola Reveals All-New 100% Plant-Based Bottle

In another attempt to do something positive about pollution, Coca-Cola is limiting its carbon footprint by revealing bottles made 100% from bio-material. This is a major achievement unlocked moment that came years after the brand launched PET bottle made 30% from plant-based materials.

The new bottles will be made using two technologies. One method is using sugar from corn and the other employs forestry waste. Of course, this does not include the label and the cap. Nine hundred of these prototype bottles are ready for commercial sale.

Delving a bit further into the PET bottle; the PET comprises two molecules – 30% is MEG, monoethylene glycol, and 70% PTA, terephthalic acid. Initially, Coca-Cola had been using 30% plant-based bottles. The MEG component of those bottles was from sugarcane, however, the PTA component was oil-based. The new bottle’s plant-based paraxylene (bPX) was produced using corn sugar, however, the process is based on flexibility in the feedstock.

Coca-Cola & its measures

Chief Technical and Innovation Officer, The Coca‑Cola Company, Nancy Quan said:

“We have been working with technology partners for many years to develop the right technologies to create a bottle with 100% plant-based content—aiming for the lowest possible carbon footprint—and it’s exciting that we have reached a point where these technologies exist and can be scaled by participants in the value chain.”

She added:

“We are taking significant steps to reduce [the] use of ‘virgin’, oil-based plastic, as we work toward a circular economy and in support of a shared ambition of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. We see plant-based plastics as playing a critical role in our overall PET mix in the future, supporting our objectives to reduce our carbon footprint, reduce our reliance on ‘virgin’ fossil fuels, and boost collection of PET in support of a circular economy.”

Dana Breed, Global R&D Director, Packaging and Sustainability, at Coca-Cola said:

“The inherent challenge with going through bioethanol is that you are competing with fuel. We needed a next-generation MEG solution that addressed this challenge, but also one that could use second-generation feedstock like forestry waste or agricultural byproducts. Our goal for plant-based PET is to use surplus agricultural products to minimize carbon footprint, so the combination of technologies brought by the partners for commercialization is an ideal fit with this strategy.”

Coca-Cola’s vision

This is certainly a huge step by Coca-Cola in moving towards a World Without Waste vision. They are optimizing the use of recyclable packaging that is more sustainable. In that series, the company also plans to collect the bottles that they have already rolled out. The aim is to achieve the goal by 2030. This way, they will be able to ensure that none of their plastic is polluting the world. Moreover, they also plan to have 50% of packaging is from recycled material.
