What’s Going On?

From October 24, 2022, WhatsApp will cancel two versions of iOS, specifically iOS 10 and iOS 11. If you’re panicking, here’s our simple advice: don’t! This means that WhatsApp will simply not be supporting iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. As for other iPhones, all of them will have to be updated to iOS 12 or later to still use the messaging app.

More Details On This News

The source says that iPhone users that are running on iOS 10 and iOS 11 will be seeing a message that reads: “Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp. WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after 24 Oct 2022.” The message, then, also helps you find out where you can go and make the changes.

Simply go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version. Why haven’t you updated already? One reason can be that the phones are just not compatible with it.

About 1 Billion iPhones In The World

It was last year that Apple said that there could be more than one billion iPhones in active use. How much do you think the figure could have gone up in a year? According to another site, the active usage of iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c only added up to around 0.5% of all iPhones in 2019. Even if the number of those users decreased, they would still account for 0.2% of active iPhones now. That’s still one million phones that are going to be dropped by iPhone.

It is also important to note that Apple itself has dropped support for the iPhone 5 and 5c. The two phones are working without software or security updates essentially. With all this being done with the two models, WhatsApp will be the last straw. We hope people have another messaging app sorted!

Gillette’s Ad On Toxic Masculinity Is The Change We Need In The World

gillette toxic masculinity ad

Gillette’s ad on toxic masculinity has invited passionate praise as well as heated criticism. What could a brand selling razors say that could inspire so much commotion? Keep reading to find out!

“We Believe: The Best Men Can Be”

This advertisement of Gillette was released in 2019 in the #MeToo era. When the movement was ripe, Gilette engaged with it and produced this short film. It is a marketing extraordinaire move that deserves praise.

The short film takes a spin on the ‘the best a man can get’ which is their 30-year-old tagline. It shows clips of sexism in movies, in boardrooms etc and reports of sexual harassment. In the back, a voice says- “is this the best a man can get?” implying men must change.

Toxic Masculinity

The focus of the ad is on toxic masculinity. The fact that this ad engages with a viral movement that was shifting the landscape of the world is incredible. That is its number one marketing technique right there— it was relevant.

In addition to that, they used the commotion surround #MeToo and used it to rebrand Gillette for a redefined masculinity. This means they get to build the hype with the focus on international circumstances while slipping in a progressive rebranding. Brands must never stand still in the face of a dynamic world, Gillette took this to the heart.

The Praise

Many praised the ad for moving forth from Gillette’s own misogynistic taglines. Previous taglines and ads showed women as a product of lust and were based simply on physical attraction. However, now the ad focuses on the role men can play to make the world safer for women.

The idea the ad imparts is that ‘the best men can be’ is through protecting women. Not catcalling them or lusting after them. This change in the ethos of a brand made for men is important.

The Criticism

The criticism comes from those who opposed the MeToo era. Many men started roasting the ad and the company because they thought the ad follows the rhetoric of ‘all men are bad’. As a result, many also started boycotting Gillette’s products as well.

The ad was also accused of implying that all men are complacent in harassment. The ‘not all men’ group came forth and started creating an issue on this as well. The brand’s Youtube was heavily targeted as a result.

This Edible Tape Maybe The Answer To Your Dreams – Here’s Why!

If you have been avoiding eating a burrito merely because of the mess it tends to create – you are in luck! A one-of-a-kind edible tape is developed by students at John Hopkins. The tastee tape that could hold wraps and burritos together for an impeccable experience.

The Edible Tape

“Tastee Tape” was designed by an all-women group of Johns Hopkins University undergraduate engineering students as part of their annual Design Day projects showcase. According to the university, the tape is “an edible adhesive comprising a food-grade fibrous scaffold and an organic adhesive. It ensures the ingredients in your favorite wrap are kept tucked tightly inside during cooking and consumption.”

Tastee Tape is made of an edible adhesive comprising a food-grade fibrous scaffold, the team said, but they’re keeping the details of their secret recipe under wraps as they apply for a patent.

The clear tape, which the students dyed blue for demonstrations, simply has to be separated from the wax paper. It can be then wet thoroughly before it is stuck to the corn tortilla, flour wrap, or gyro.

The Idea Behind The Invention

Guarino, Erin Walsh, Marie Eric, and Rachel Nie were seniors at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore when they embarked on their mission to create an edible tape that could hold wraps and burritos together last year.

According to Guarino, the team spent months studying “normal tape” and its elements. A backbone that holds its structure together and an adhesive that makes it stick to surfaces — to try to find their “edible counterparts.”

They had three main criteria for their tape; It needed to be clear and colorless, have no taste, and no noticeable texture. After testing various combinations, they hit on the magic recipe, which is also gluten-free and suitable for vegans.

“We tested about 50 different formulations” before finding the winning “Tastee Tape” recipe, Guarino says.

“We have learned so much about product design, prototyping, and patenting. All if us are really grateful that we had this opportunity before we graduated. It has taught us so many valuable skills,” she said. Further adding that she and teammate Marie Eric would be staying on another year at JHU to complete a Masters’, and in that time, will continue working on the product.

Why Is It A Norm That Companies Ask For Last Job Salary?

5 Things You're Doing Wrong In A Job Interview

If you have ever been in a job interview, especially in Pakistan, you must be familiar with the payslip query. Instead of telling you the pay bracket of the prospective job, they will ask you about your last job salary. Should you tell your job salary, they will proudly add a crisp PKR 5,000 to the number and consider themselves the most generous employer in the world.

The pay-scale?

This phenomenon comes from a toxic fact; most job interviewers do not consider the worth of the company individually, rather they look at it with reference to the interviewee’s last job.

Read More: Labeling Men ‘Bhai’: Pakistani Women’s Weapon Outside Home

Let’s take a look at an example. You have to hire a Social Media Manager. Now, when looking for one, you shortlist a candidate. But when they ask about the package, you ask them what their salary was and you add PKR 5,000 to it. But you overlooked one factor. His last job was at a third-tier company. Now, even though that third-tier company does not even come close to your level, you just equated yourself with it.

Last job salary

What should it be based on?

What should the salary be based on if not the prior salary? It should be based on the job the person has to do. List the tasks that the person has to get done. If you believe that you have a company-subjective payscale, compare the list of tasks with it.

But, if you want your salary to be market competitive, then do your research. Do not just look at what another company might be offering someone in the same position. Instead, first consider what job description that company has for the position. Does the task list match what you have in mind? Now, take task lists of both the jobs and the salary and formulate your salary package.

Why is it not a good idea?

It is not the best way to go about a job interview because an interview is a two-way street. While an interviewer gauges the potential candidate, the interviewee gauges the company and the work culture. After attaining a negative impression of the company, the employee has only two options: He will either reject the company and badmouth it amongst his peers; or he will take the job because of financial pressure but he will not be too enthusiastic about it.

The choice now, is yours. You have to decide whether you need an enthusiastic workforce that genuinely respects the company or you want sheep to complete the herd and a negative image in the market.

Having baby hair is no joke. They come with a vicious cycle of happiness, contentment, and annoyance. If you ever have dealt with baby hair, then you must have an idea of what I’m talking about. But the question is, have you give in to those frizzy baby hair, or have you took the life out of hair trying to style them with hot tools? It is one-way or the other and no in-between. But what if I told you a few well-kept secrets to style those frisky baby hairs without damaging your hair? If you are already excited, keep reading.

How To Tame Your Baby Hair

The solution to the perfect styling of baby hair is to get complete control of all the essentials and tools you can get. But the mastery of tips is the key to get those petty strands to behave. Let’s take a look at some foolproof tricks which can help you put your best hair forward.

1. Hair Spray/ Hair oil

If you do not own hair spray, now is the time to pay a visit to the store. Using hairsprays is one of the easiest ways you can get your baby hair to tame down. However, choosing the right product according to your hair type is the most crucial thing. Opting for a medium to firm hold hairspray is your best option if you have thick curly hair. But if you have flyaways taming them with a natural lightweight oil can helo control the frizz adding extra shine to them.

2. Use A Toothbrush

A personal favorite tip is to use a toothbrush with some hairspray to make those fly away to settle down. This tick works absolutely perfect if you want to achieve a slick look with those ponytails or fancy buns. Spray some product on the bristle and run it over your hair strands to get the look.

3. Use A Clear Mascara

If you want to keep the flyaways at bay, on the go, keeping a clear mascara in your bag will help you a lot. The moment you see the pesky hair above your head, just use some product. The fine bristles of the brush will help catch all the fine hair, and the gel product will help look the hair in place for a long time.

4. Invest In A Mini Hair Straightener

Big plates do not tend to catch all the tiny hair near the scalp, and the chances of burning your scalp become higher. Investing in a portable mini straightener will help you style your baby hair whenever you want and will make it a lot easier for you to control your hair along the line.

5. Prep Your Hair

A significant contributor to frizz and pesky flyways is the humidity and the lack of moisture in your hair. To achieve the perfect look, make sure to prep your hair appropriately. Ditch the towels and make use of old t-shirts to dry your hair. Apply to leave-on conditioners and serums to help lock the moisture in the hair.

Styling baby hair is in fashion for as far as we can remember, and we know it means having to take a big risk with your look, but to ace the look, you can find out which style suits you the best. 3 Driving Myths That Are Not True & Need To Be Debunked

driving myths

Driving in pop culture franchises has made automotive vehicles the go-to source for a rush of adrenaline or just an opportunity to look ‘cool’ while shifting gears. Films don’t hesitate to flick the camera towards the gearbox and queue intense musical scores every time the protagonist lags in a race.

This, combined with decades and decades of vehicular improvement, has brought about several myths associated with driving. Why don’t we take a gander at some of them and see if we cannot debunk the very essence of what makes them a myth?

1. Is it Illegal to eat and drive?

Image Soure: askadamskutner

Firstly, the myth that needs to be debunked is related to eating and driving. People often find themselves running late for work or an important meeting, and they grab a food item on the way. In reality, it is not illegal to eat and drive, but it is not recommended. This is because any task one must perform apart from driving-related ones is considered a distraction. So, if the food in the car spills while eating, the situation can, quite quickly, escalate to a safety hazard. The driver will then be distracted, from driving, to clean up the mess.

So, debunking the myth of ‘Is it illegal to eat and drive,’ it is not illegal, but it is not recommended either. In Pakistan, however, people hardly get pulled over for it.

2. My manual transmission gives a better average

manual transmission

Secondly, the era is full of gear heads; many believe that manual transmission cars get better fuel economy than automatic transmission ones. It is accurate that, at one time, manual vehicles gave better kilometers per liter, that time has long since passed. One would find that, in Pakistan, an automatic ‘Cultus’ could provide a better average than its manual counterpart.

A manual transmission ‘Corolla’ may not give as good of an average as compared to a ‘Passo’ with CVT transmission. The drops in an economy that come with grinding gears and stretching the RPM more than is required while driving were eliminated when the driver stopped switching gears.

It’s quite impractical to believe that manuals can give a better average while driving when you have emerging technology such as CVT transmission and 8+ gear automatics. Of course, drivers racing on the coastal areas of Karachi, with their heavily modified manual vehicles, still tend to disagree.

3. Women vs. Men

men vs women drivers

Thirdly, there has been a myth that has also been made into a stereotype. It has existed for quite a long while, and it’s high time for it to be debunked. It is the presence of a mindset that believes women are inferior drivers to men or that they lack the appropriate skills and response time to react while driving.

It is quite the opposite of the myth. Women are better drivers, not just in terms of road sense, but they are more cautious in driving too. Men, with their statistics, have shown to be more reckless, with the fault lying in either one or both of them in the case of an accident. A ‘New York Times’ article mentioned the conduction of a British study from 2005 – 2015 which showed the following statistics,

Not just this, widespread organizations are also looking to recruit women drivers like ‘Careem’ and not only based on gender diversity but also because women drive safer.

Ahmed Shah: Netizens Debate Over TV Channel’s Obsession With the Child Star

ahmed shah

Ahmed Shah, the latest media sensation and talk of the town has once again taken the social media by storm. However, this time it is for a different reason than his usual cuteness.

Celebrities, journalists, and fans have all started noticing Ahmed Shah’s constant presence at LIVE Ramzan transmissions, and they are not having it.

He has been spotted daily on ARY Digital in Shan e Iftar with Waseem Badami, Jeeto Pakistan with Fahad Mustafa, and also sometimes with Nida Yasir on her morning show.

Journalist and former PTV anchor, Sana Ejaz took to Twitter to express her views on the matter.

It’s time we talked about our entertainment industry using Ahmed Shah as a prop.

Considering that the child star is a minor, and is probably kept at shows for ungodly long hours without his consent, it does seem a little unfair.

People are of the opinion that the child is being exploited by the media for ratings, even at the cost of his health, sleep, and him being away from his family and home.

Professional Pakistani Squash player, Noorena Shams also took to Twitter yesterday to ask Mahira Khan and Shehzad Roy a very important question regarding the child star’s safety.

The athlete’s question was in reference to Shehzad Roy’s latest initiative #ProtectOurChildren, which involves celebrities like Mahira Khan and Zeba Bakhtiyar.

The initiative is aimed at demanding that the government introduce Life Skills Based Education in schools so the children can learn to understand and battle physical abuse.

Twitterverse is protesting how the young child is being exploited for ratings

Earlier, an inappropriate video of Ahmed with self-proclaimed model and TikTok sensation, Hareem Shah got viral.

Child Star Ahmed Shah’s Inappropriate Video With TikTok Celebrity Sparks Uproar!

Many people termed her behavior with the child as harassment, under the light of which these questions make sense.

Some are also saying that it is the child’s parents who are at fault for allowing channels to keep him on set just for the sake of some money. The child is too young to have a will of his own, after all.

Jazz Signs Agreement To Fiberize Its Network Across Lahore

Lahore – 27 May 2022: Jazz, Pakistan’s number one 4G operator and the largest internet and mobile broadband provider,  has signed an agreement to connect all of its Mobile towers directly to fiber in Lahore. Fiber infrastructure and services provider, Nayatel, has partnered to lead this Fiber to the Site (FTTS) project, which is expected to complete by December 2022.

FTTS is a network connectivity solution that enables each cell site to carry up to 10Gbps of traffic at significantly lower latencies and enhances network availability and resilience. Upon the completion of this project, Jazz subscribers will experience faster download speeds, lag-free online gaming, and improved audio and video calls over IP applications. The infrastructure will pave the way for future technologies (5G/6G) which require low latency and high throughput backhaul to operate.

“Digital transformation across the country increasingly requires high-bandwidth solutions with the demand for data and speed increasing exponentially. Fiberization showcases our commitment to delivering a consistently fast and reliable internet solution; and is crucial if we are to build a digital ecosystem which compliments the users evolving lifestyle needs,” said Jazz’s Chief Technology Officer, Khalid Shehzad.

The demand for high-speed mobile broadband is growing at an unprecedented pace. This growth is driven by a rise in digital media applications. At the same time, work-from-home practices have also contributed to a rise in low latency requirements for current mobile networks. There is an urgent need to deliver more data through advanced and expanded fiber networks while maintaining high network availability.

Speaking at the project announcement ceremony, Nayatel’s CEO, Wahaj Siraj, said, “This partnership opens new horizons for the implementation of high-speed data connectivity. Nayatel has always pursued a vision of providing quality internet, cable TV, and phone services to its customers. Now, we are aiming to facilitate digital transformation by working with Jazz to build the infrastructure required to bring Pakistan at par with the most developed countries of the world.”

In the last two years, Jazz has invested US$ 560Mn towards its strategic focus on connecting the unconnected to high-speed internet, and upgrading its 4G infrastructure to fulfill the growing bandwidth demand.  The mobile operator currently has a vast fiber network carrying live customer traffic across 26 cities. Plans are underway for further expansions targeting 70% FTTS penetration in the next 5 years. A densely fiberized, future-ready network, will form the foundation for many next-gen services such as 5G, FTTH, IoT, enterprise networks, and Industry 4.0.

Here’s Why People Are Demanding A Ban On Capstan

While the ban on imported products has caused a nationwide frenzy, a very well-known brand in Pakistan is doing things that don’t make sense. Capstan, a renowned local cigarette brand made in Pakistan, is under fire for claiming to have been produced in the USA.

Ban Capstan

People are boycotting Capstan in an attempt to raise voices regarding the hypocrisy of the brand. The local brand, which is thought to be manufactured in Pakistan, has written ‘Made In The USA’ over it, claiming that the production of the cigarette brand takes place in America. As a result, the locals have raised the issue in an attempt to boycott the product.

People have taken to social media to share the hashtag #CapstanNaManzoor #Bancapstan. Meanwhile, a protest in Sukkur, Sindh by the locals was held in front of the Sukkar Press Club.

Here’s Why Locals Want A Ban On Capstan

According to the protestors, the box label says, ‘Made in the USA’. Meanwhile, it is made in Pakistan. The issue created quite a stir among the users as they questioned the brand’s move. The protestors demanded an immediate ban on the cigarette brand.

Meanwhile, the protest got coverage on all the major social media platforms. The protestors shared their views regarding the situation at hand, claiming that Pakistan doesn’t lack anything when it comes to resources. Still, unfortunately, the brands don’t think twice before claiming the product is imported even though the production takes place locally.

The protestors, on one occasion, burned the boxes of Capstan while screaming Ban Capstan at the top of their lungs. They also pleaded with the public to start using locally made products instead of imported ones.

Flyadeal – Women-only Crew Operates Flight In Saudi Arabia

For decades, Saudi Arabia has been known as one of the most autocratic countries in the world; with little regard for women’s rights. However, things are slowly changing for the better and a couple of social reforms have now granted women freedom previously prohibited under the strictly enforced Islamic law.

In a first, a flight in Saudi Arabia has been operated by a crew comprising only women–a move which has been dubbed a milestone for women’s empowerment in the conservative kingdom.

Flyadeal – All Women Flight

The flight was operated last week, completing a short domestic journey. According to airline spokesman Imad Iskandarani, most of the seven-member crew were from Saudi Arabia, including Yara Jan, who is reportedly also the youngest Saudi female pilot. The captain for the flight however was a foreign woman.

While the cabin crew is all comprised of women, the passengers on the other hand aren’t only restricted to women.

Flight Route

The domestic flight operated as F3-117 using one of the airline’s newest Airbus A320. Registered as HZ-FAV, the aircraft was delivered from Toulouse on April 21st. It was then introduced to operations on April 25th. The flight operated by flyadeal, was from the capital Riyadh to the Red Sea coastal city of Jeddah on Thursday. Said flyadeal spokesman Emad Iskandarani.

The Women That Started It All

In 2019, Yasmeen al-Maimani became the first female co-pilot in Saudi commercial airlines. She shared her experience with Saudi Aviation soon after her rise to the position as initially, she was unable to find a job in the gulf due to her gender.

“I couldn’t find any Saudi or Gulf airliners willing to recruit me because I am a woman, and couldn’t find a job in this industry despite the issuance of license from the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation. I knocked many doors for a job, but the refusal is still going on under the pretext that women’s jobs as female captains do not exist.”

Women In Karachi Forced To Choose Wardrobe Based On Mode Of Travel

Karachi is a metropolitan city indeed. It has people from every region, every religion, every culture in Pakistan. Similarly, it has (almost) every mode of transport you can imagine. Yet, as ironic as this is for a melting pot, women in Karachi need to be very particular about how they dress based on the transport they take.

How do women in Karachi decide?

“Today, I might have to go on D7 (local bus), I can’t go western!”
Takes chadar!

“I have to come home early so I will have to do book a car, I can totally wear my favorite outfit.”
Dresses up in top and jeans.

“Let’s save up and take one of those private bus services, shall we?”
Takes out a kameez with jeans.

The mode of travel and their exposure to Karachi streets makes them decide what to wear. They feel safer to wear what they want when taking private cars and want to cover up more when traveling in public transport even though they know covering up more will not stop the men from looking. But it is just how they have been tuned to think.

The argument of culture

People might say, “But oh shalwar kameez is our culture,” and it sure is. But isn’t it embarrassing for us as a nation that our sisters, mothers, daughters do not feel safe? That we have not created an environment where they can walk freely without caring whether they are wearing revealing clothes or is their dress clinging to our body too much?

Understanding the link

But what is the link between mode of transport and wardrobe choice? God forbid, but if someone intends to harass, they can do so in a car as well. Then, why is that women would change the entire wardrobe decision based on the mode of transport? It is because of how many people would have access to them. The more their visibility, the more the chances of them getting harassed.

Thus, to get to a bus, they have to travel to a bus stop, attracting eyeballs. They have to wait at the bus stop, and then even during the ride, they have to deal with people eyeing them. Because of (even if it is fake) the sense of security, they are able to get through the ride while donning on shalwar kameez and a chadar.

A blend of sweet and savory is here to devise you with the best snack in town. Two of the giant cookies and crackers on the market are joining forces to make a new sweet and savory concoction. And it is something which is not to be missed.

The Mondelez Mashup

Referred to as The Mondelez Mashup, the brand announced a collaboration between their two superhit products on the market. Meet the Ritz x Oreo, a franken-cookie that’s one half buttery Ritz cracker and one half chocolatey Oreo. Double-stuffed with both peanut butter-flavored creme and the original Oreo creme, the Ritz x Oreo looks like a practical joke in cookie form. But we assure you, this is no joke.

As they say, your hair is the crown or accessory you wear. It can still become very difficult to manage your hair amidst changing weather. Summer humidity is the major culprit of frizzy hair. The dry heat can extract the moisture out from the hair while making them look dull and dry.

Frizz can also lead to hair breakage which can create long-term problems like hair fall. As much as we all want to have luscious shining locks all year long. It becomes very difficult to achieve this task in the summer.

If you are someone who is going through the same problem and want to achieve a smoother look to your locks. Here are some tips and tricks which can help you tame the frizz in the summers.

1. Deep Condition

Deep conditioning is the key to maintain and restore the moisture in your hair. As conditioners give the added benefit of providing nutrients to the hair. Leave-in conditioners can help add softness and moisture to the hair.

2. Masking

We rave about skin masks all the time. How about we give the hair mask the applause they deserve? Hair masks have the ability to provide megadoses of beneficial ingredients to hair that may help keep it nourished, moist, and frizz-free. Ingredients like almond oil, argan oil, and coconut oil can do wonders for your hair.

A DIY hair mask can be as good as a drugstore one. Look for sulfate-free options as they can improve the overall texture and strength of your hair but make sure to be consistent as consistency is key to achieve smooth hair all year long.

3. Avoid Overwashing and Towels

One thing you must avoid is to strip your hair of natural oils. Washing your hair daily can lead to a dry scalp which can create havoc for your hair. Alternate between using shampoos and conditioners. Avoid drying your hair with a towel as it can damage the shaft of the hair leading to breakage and more frizz. Rubbing your hair with a towel can also lead to split ends which ultimately causes dry hair.

5. Turn Down The Temperature

Hot water can strip the moisture out of your hair while making them rough, dry, and frizzy. Try to use cold water to wash your hair as hot showers can elevate your cuticles exposing the hair shaft. Coldwater will not only strengthen the hair, but it can also create a smooth and shining look.

6. Get Rid of the Dry Ends

Now, if you are planning to cut your hair and change your look now is the excuse for you to get an appointment with your stylist. Dry and split hair ends can cause hair breakage and weakened hair. This can ultimately lead to dry and frizzy hair and increased hair fall.
