If Money Heist was Made in Pakistan, Here’s Who We Would Love to Cast!

Money Heist

The worldwide sensation that is Money Heist, or La Casa de Papel, first caught everyone’s attention on Netflix in 2017.

Ever since the first episode aired, the series became an instant hit!

Money Heist is the highest non-English speaking show ever and is an example of brilliant storytelling.

Called La Casa de Papel in Spanish, the name was modified for English-speaking audiences to Money Heist before season one was launched.

Now, wouldn’t it be great if we had a Pakistani version of the series made? However, the biggest question is, who would we cast in the Urdu adaption for the local audience.

Here’s our pick for the following characters. Have a look:

1. Fawad Khan as The Professor (Sergio)

Fawad Khan

We doubt there can be a better choice for the ‘Professor’ than Fawad Khan who has the right amount of qualities to play the mysterious man.

Ask anyone, he looks the right age and has the perfect voice too. We’re sure even Bollywood would agree.

2. Mahira Khan as Raquel

Now if Fawad Khan was to play The Professor, Mahira Khan would perfectly fit the role of Raquel. We have not seen Mahira play a cop before and it would certainly be a treat to watch her act like one.

Police Inspector Raquel Murillo is a woman who refuses to be defeated by The Professor or threatened by the men in her department.

3. Zahid Ahmed as Berlin

Zahid Ahmed has the perfect personality to play the position of a commander who leads the group inside the mint.

Berlin is the robber with the strongest temper, and judging from the roles Zahid has played previously, one can be sure he’d do justice to the multilayered and complicated character.

4. Hania Aamir as Tokyo

We feel Hania Aamir would make a great desi Tokyo who is bratty, selfish, careless, impulsive, and prone to tantrums.

She acts as if she has nothing to lose, however, her fascination for unpredictability and desire for control are dangerous.

5. Asim Azhar as Rio

Asim Azhar looks like the innocent and emotional tech expert, Rio. Unlike the other robbers, he is a child by comparison and equally careless as Tokyo.

6. Meesha Shafi as Nairobi

Just compare their attention to detail and spectacular fashion sense. We simply cannot imagine anyone else to play Nairobi other than Meesha Shafi who has it all to represent the strong female character with the rockstar fashion sense.

7. Helsinki & Oslo- Shamoon Abbasi and Hamza Ali Abbasi

Just look at their bald images that have been circulating on social media and you’ll know why we think they would best fit the roles.

8. Asif Raza Mir as Moscow

We’ve seen Asif Raza Mir as a father in numerous plays so why now in this one too. He also resembles the father of fellow crew member Denver.

He is experienced and that shows when he provides other crew members with advice.

9. Yasir Hussain as Denver

Denver is a passionate and lively presence in the group, always adding colour to each conversation with snappy remarks and his signature laugh. Yasir is known to do pretty much the same, no?

10. Iqra Aziz as Monica (Stockholm)

If Yasir plays Denver, Iqra has to be Monica; a compassionate person who took many risks to be with her new lover when she saw how committed he was to her. Also, both characters are just so much in love on screen, the duo would be the perfect fit after the epic proposal at Lux Style Awards!

11. Imran Ashraf as Palermo

Palermo is apparently a divisive character and we feel Imran Ashraf would be a good choice to play the role. Given that he is one of the masterminds behind the latest heist, Imran would be a great fit for this dominating role.

Doritos Isn’t Calling Itself Doritos Anymore: Here’s Why!

Doritos isn’t just a brand of imported tortilla chips that Pakistanis enjoy. Well, not anymore, at least!

From munching on packets upon packets of this crunchy snack on movie nights, to using them to spice up our salad and sandwich recipes, Doritos are a major part of the entertainment in our lives.

From Logo to Lo(gone!)

What’s more, the brand has taken a major step to rebrand themselves by LOSING THEIR LOGO. Have they lost their mind? Well, no, just their logo.

Take a look:

From the witty rhymes to the smartly done visuals, no where does it say Doritos, but you can still tell it’s them.

Now THAT’S branding!

Take a look at the images on their instagram account.

Triangles. Flames. The color Red. Everything but the NAME. They’ve built their brand equity so well that there is no need of mentioning even their name.

Their focus has shifted from what the brand is called to what the brand stands for and offers, and isn’t that how it should be?

What would we do with a great logo but awful, disappointing product/service?

Doritos is not producing tortillas, it is producing experiences. And we love it!

Ayesha Malik Takes Another Dig at Priyanka Chopra & Social Media has her Back!

Update – 4th September 2019:

Ayesha Malik has called out Priyanka Chopra once again! Malik shared a video shared on Global Citizen’s Twitter in which Chopra talks about the importance of empowering women and educating girls because they have the power to change the world.

Malik retweeted the video with a caption that read:

I totally agree with you. Now let them speak truth to power without snatching the mic away from them.

Social Media Reacts to Ayesha Malik’s Clapback Tweet

Ayesha Malik won the hearts of all Pakistanis and global supporters after she called out UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra for promoting war.

Priyanka’s response to Ayesha’s question added fuel to the flame. Ayesha’s mic was literally snatched from her hands and asking her if she was ‘done venting’.

Ayesha had called her a hypocrite for supporting the nuclear war between Pakistan and India.

Update, 23rd August 2019:

After letters and petitions to the United Nations to remove Indian actor Priyanka Chopra as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for peace, UN has finally responded.

Take a look at what Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, has said:

“The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors are prominent individuals who have agreed to generously volunteer their time and their public profile to promote children’s rights.”

When UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors “speak in their personal capacity, they retain the right to speak about issues that interest or concern them,”

“Their personal views or actions do not necessarily reflect those of UNICEF,” he said, adding, “When they speak on behalf of the UNICEF, we expect them to adhere to UNICEF’s evidence-based impartial positions.”

Update, 21st August 2019:

The video of Priyanka Chopra’s condescending behavior with a girl at BeautyCon is still making rounds and creating uproar on social media.

So much so that Shireen Mazari, Minister for Human Rights Pakistan, has officially written to UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H Fore to take down Indian actress Priyanka Chopra as UN Goodwill Ambassador in the light of her behavior and words.

Here is what Mazari said:

“Chopra has publicly endorsed this Indian government position and also supported the nuclear threat issued to Pakistan by the Indian defence minister”.

Update, 19th August 2019: Powerful personalities like Priyanka Chopra often tend to say things that they think won’t affect them adversely.

However, in a time like this when social media does not forgive anyone, it can be difficult to get away with anything we may say or do.

Irfan Junejo Breaks Silence After Facing Major Bullying for Not Making a Vlog on Kashmir Issue

We remember how social media’s wrath fell upon Chopra after she behaved condescendingly with the participant of BeautyCon.

The consequences of her behavior became more tangible after people began signing petitions for her to be taken down as the Goodwill Ambassador of UN.

Moreover, in recent news, she has lost around 3 million followers on instagram as well.

It seems that people really have decided to teach her a lesson!

#Kashmir: Star from Bollywood Movie Dangal Goes MIA After Article 370 is Revoked!

August 18, 2019: Priyanka Chopra has been facing a lot of backlash for her recent remarks regarding her patriotism at a recent event.

While many stars in Pakistan have criticised the ‘Quantico’ actor who is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Hania Aamir uses humour.

Turning to Instagram, the ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ star shared a picture of herself looking gorgeous in green. However, it’s the caption that caught everyone’s attention.

Ali Gul Pir Gives Official Statement After Ali Zafar Tries to Silence Him with FIA Notice

Using Priyanka’s own words against her Hania stated: “Are you done venting?”

Adding as a reply to one of the comments on the post she also wrote “but I’m patriotic” which has also been turned into the latest meme on the internet to mimic the Bollywood star.

Glad that World Media is Finally Waking up to see what is Really Happening in Kashmir: Mehwish Hayat

It all started when a Pakistani fan questioned Priyanka for her pro-war stand between India and Pakistan being UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador.

“I hear you. Whenever you’re done venting… Got it? Done? OK, cool. War is not something I’m really fond of, but I am patriotic,” Priyanka responded.

“Girl, don’t yell. We’re all here for love. Don’t yell. Don’t embarrass yourself,” she added.

While this was Hania’s way of responding to Priyanka and fans loved it, Mehwish Hayat reacted in a much more serious way using her voice to raise the issue.

Mehwish penned an op-ed for CNN titled ‘The problem with Priyanka Chopra’, where she called out the Bollywood actor for failing to fulfil her duty as a celebrity and a United Nations goodwill ambassador.

Actor Armeena Khan also penned an open letter to the UNICEF, asking the international organization to take action against its Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra who has been accused of “encouraging nuclear war”.

It’s great to see our celebs raising their voice for the right reasons. What are your thoughts about the matter? Comment and let us know.

Why is KMC Discouraging Tree Planting in Karachi?

urban forest

Almost everyone is aware and convinced of the global warming issue, as the impact of this issue is greater and more prominent than ever.

However, a very small, negligible number of the Pakistani population cares or shows any consideration for this dire issue.

Urban Forest is an organization who grow native, wild and maintenance free forests in cities to fight pollution.

Urban Forests are forests which are present in and around urban settlements. They can spring up naturally, or they can be initiated through certain methods, the practice of which is known as urban forestry.

They are a one of its kind initiative, and planted 9000 trees (and total 15,000) last year.

However, a recent post has emerged in which Shahzad Qureshi, the man behind Urban Forest, is complaining about how KMC and DG Park have ‘kicked them out’.

Take a look at the video he posted:

Forests grow 10x faster and are 30x more dense. These forests can capture more carbon and address the urgency to restore ecosystems that encourage biodiversity.

But for some undisclosed reason, KMC is not allowing Urban Forest to continue with their kind efforts and it is truly a thing to be upset about.

Shahzad is requesting the audience to support him and question KMC for this action that will severely jeopardize the efforts of Urban Forest.

Chinese FM Wang Yi to Visit Pakistan, Reschedules Trip to India

Wang Yi

The Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councillor Wang Yi has decided to skip his visit to India. Instead, he will be visiting Pakistan.

Yi was scheduled to visit New Delhi on September 9-10 for talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Yi will be in Islamabad on Saturday for the Pakistan-Afghanistan-China trilateral meeting and will leave for Nepal on Sunday.

The reason behind this decision is said to be “scheduling constraints” from the host nation which is why they requested for the meeting to be rescheduled.

He was traveling to India to discuss Modi government’s recent decision to remove J&K’s special status which was not well accepted by Beijing.

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited China to have talks with Wang Yi assuring him that this decision will not raise any additional territorial claims in the Aksi Chin area and that the Chinese concerns in this regard were misplaced.

The issue (Aksai Chin) came up in terms of when they were referring to what they thought the impact of Article 370 was going to be and how it could impact India-China boundary talks.

I told them that it does not change the international boundaries or the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.

I conveyed our position to him which was that we maintain our international boundary according to our map. -Jaishankar

We have now to see how the talks between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan go over the weekend.

Dulhan Course for Women – Mrs. Khan, is that you?

A number of Pakistanis both male and female lost their calm over a loud and angry woman championing patriarchal values on a morning show.

The show’s theme was the rise of divorce rates in Pakistan, and while a marriage includes two people, Mrs. Khan somehow managed to make it all about women and their responsibilities in a marriage.

Mrs. Khan faced her fair share of backlash for her obnoxiously orthodox and prejudiced point of views. However, what is now getting all the attention is the all new Dulhan Course.

Apparently, the course is supposed to help brides-to-be develop a better understanding of how to run and manage a family in a healthy manner.

Wow. OK.

Take a look at how people are responding to this:

Pakistan Lifts Ban on Life Saving Indian Medicines

ban on indian drugs lifted

The Kashmir issue has been the talk of the town lately, and as always, it seems to be turning into more of an Indo-Pak issue than a Kashmir issue.

On August 5th 2019, the blackout began, cutting occupied Kashmir off from the rest of the world.

It has been over 30 days now, the curfew continues, leaving the residents deprived of even the most essential items including baby food and medicines. From trade to travel to media and advertisement, India Pakistan have cut all ties.

However, the human rights lens seems to have knocked some sense into the government, and ban on importing life-saving drugs from India has been lifted.

Here is what Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, Dr Zafar Mirza said to Dawn:

“The exemption is given in the best interest of the public and in order to maintain supply of medicines to patients,”

Let us hope that the situation gets better, and Kashmir is given a chance to decide their fate on their own.

The French fashion house, Dior recently released a preview of its new Native American-inspired fragrance campaign for “Sauvage” featuring actor Johnny Depp and a Native American theme.

The brand captioned the brief clip: “An authentic journey deep into the Native American soul in a sacred, founding and secular territory.

“A film developed as a close collaboration between the House of Dior and Native American consultants from the 50-year-old Indigenous advocacy organization Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO) in order to respect Indigenous cultures, values, and heritage.”

People in Karachi Pledge to Support Old Blind Gentleman’s Small Business in Tariq Road

It is rare to see Pakistanis unite, agree, and come together for something right but when they do, it is truly beautiful.

Recently, a truly heart-wrenching story was shared on a facebook page and we thought it was only our civil responsibility to share it forward.

Have a look at the facebook post:

Someone was crossing Rehmania Masjid Graveyard opposite to Car Accessories shop and Bahria Tower (Tariq Road, Karachi), and spotted an elderly man selling cold beverages.

The person found out that the elderly man was blind in both eyes since the last 15 years due to a blast in Karsaz when Benazir Bhutto (Former Prime Minister of Pakistan) came to Pakistan.

Currently residing in a 1 room flat in Tariq Road Commercial Market, whose rent amounts to 9,250 PKR, the man does not beg for money and only requests for prayers.

The person covering the story has requested Karachiites to visit his stall and buy from him. And we’d request the same.

Pakistan Cricketer Javed Miandad Threatens to Kill Indians in Viral Video!

Javed Miandad

After abolishing Article 370, the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir special status under the Indian constitution has taken a major twist.

In a viral video, former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad has stirred a HUGE controversy after his comments.

In the video, Miandad is heard saying:

“Pehle main balle se chakka marta tha, ab talwar se insaan maaronga.”

If I can hit six with a bat, why can’t I swing sword.. I used to hit sixes with a bat, now I’ll kill humans with sword. -Javed Miandad

Female Pakistani Scientist is Using Mango Skin to Create Water-Soluble Bio-Plastic Bags!

There has been a strong focus on saving the planet these days. News about the #AmazonFire brought even more attention to the grave issue.

We all agree that plastic is a major hazard to our planet, especially the use of polythene bags that take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills and ruin the country’s environment, resulting in clogging of major sewerage systems.

While part of the world has moved to more environment friendly alternatives, Pakistan has been rather slow in the transition.

The government has also been making attempts to eradicate use of plastic, and many brands have come on board with their campaigns for the same cause.

Earlier this week, Dr. Anjum Nawab claimed to generate bio plastic using mango kernel. The plastic she claims to have created is environment friendly and easily dissoluble.

The plastic is so strong that it can be used to make grocery bags to carry vegetables and eatables. The best thing about it is that it can be melted in the ground just like the waste of fruits and can be liquified under hot water.

Dr. Anjum is a Pakistani scientist currently offering her services as Assistant Professor at Karachi University. Here’s what she said at an interview:

“Pakistan” is known for ample production of mango in the world so I choose mangoes’ waste to form bio plastic bag in my PhD studies,”

Anjum is also in process of trying to use the skin and stone of other fruits for making bio-plastic with a lesser manufacturing cost, so that factory owners can produce it in a reasonable price and consumers can be encouraged to buy it.

We are excited to see these new bio-plastic bags in the market!
