Similarly, when it comes to driving, there are forgivable mistakes and there are worse ones. The former can be ignored and are usually such that are rectified with time and practice.

The latter ones, however, can even cause the driver their life! Yes, a simple turn signal can mean the difference between life and death. Today, we shall observe such mistakes made by almost every Driver.

1. Rev On Ignition:

This is one of the most common mistakes that a lot of Drivers make. Understandably, older cars require a warm-up of the engine before actually moving, but revving is not the same thing. A lot of people press hard and keep pressing on the accelerator just as the car starts. The vehicle engine has barely started, and one is trying to shoot fuel into the block. This can be extremely harmful to the vehicle.

2. Clutch Grinding:

This is yet another one of the bad mistakes a lot of drivers make. If you shift gear and are done shifting it, take the foot off the clutch completely. Resting your foot on the clutch, but on pressing it, still grinds the plate against the gears. This is not only causing wear and tear, but if you release your foot at speed, the vehicle might jerk. That, in turn, can cause an accident.

3. Four-Way Island Turns:

Are you familiar with four-way traffic signals with an island in between? Yes, we refer to either the signs in the center or the place where a policeman stands. The general laws of the road state that the driver is to make the turn from over the island. However, people here turn directly state from beneath the island. This can cause a head-on collision with a car coming from the right or the left, depending on where you are turning.

4. Speeding:

Of course, we cannot mention driver mistakes and leave out speeding. This is a common thing in youngsters and many of the new drivers. Just because a vehicle has the ability to cross 150 doesn’t mean it should do that on every road. Speed should be set according to the road’s size, population nearby, and the speed limit. You can do 80km/hr on Shahra-e-Faisal but probably not in Saddar.

5. Driving Slow In Passing Lane:

There is nothing wrong with driving under the speed limit. However, if you intend to drive slower, it is recommended to it in the second or third lane. The first lane is usually the fastest one and is used for overtaking. How can a vehicle overtake a slower car if the slower car is in the passing lane itself? This is a mistake a driver can make, which may cause an accident. Overtaking from the left on roads built for right-hand drives is dangerous.

6. Leaving High Beams On:

Now, this is considered as a mistake made by a driver or done deliberately. Of course, there can sometimes be disagreements on the road and high beams are the weapon of the driver. However, we must remember that high beams hurt not just other drivers, but pedestrians too. Leaving the high beams of your car, switched on, on residential roads, is a risky move. It can blind someone and cause a fatal crash.

7. Swerving Lane To Lane:

Many people might think of this as a sign of professional driving, but it is quite far from it. Swerving from lane to lane without giving turn signals is a collision waiting to happen. What if the car in front of you or behind you cannot handle avoiding you when you changed lanes? A driver must always be careful when switching lanes. It takes practice to switch without disrupting the flow of the road.

One cannot deny the popularity electrified cars have attained over the past decade. While conventional cars only use one power source, the most common hybrid cars rely on at least two different power sources to function; an electric motor as well as a gasoline engine. So while it may have some benefits, the hybrid technology brings with it a myriad of issues.

To begin with, hybrid cars are only a temporary solution. They use certain kinds of fossil fuels, which further ends up contributing to global warming. So, even if it can be beneficial during the energy transition period, hybrid technology won’t be preferred by many in the distant future. People will go back to using conventional gasoline powered vehicles. It also pollutes our environment by emitting harmful gases as a result of using fossil fuels. This is why in the long run, hybrid technology isn’t the most sustainable way to go.

The technology itself is quite complex, so technical difficulties are a common occurrence and are much harder to fix by yourself as opposed to conventional cars that do not contain a lot of electronic devices. In case your car breaks down, you may have to spend a hefty sum of money in order to get it up and running again. It also goes without saying that the overall performance of a conventional car is much better than a hybrid one.

It isn’t economically and financially feasible for a developing country like Pakistan, where the majority of our electricity is generated using fossil fuels and imports amount to as high as $70 billion, to provide duty or tax concessions for hybrid vehicles which is an expensive technology in its own regard. Karachi, 8th June 2022: Marking a historic first, the popular video-streaming platform, YouTube, hosted a virtual Pakistan creator roundtable. The event was attended by media persons and the brains behind the four renowned Pakistani YouTube channels; Ducky Bhai, Something Haute, Sistrology, and Street Food PK.

The discussion began with the Country Director of Pakistan at Google, Farhan S. Qureshi, sharing valuable insights with content creators and the media.

“Over 55 per cent of the viewership of Pakistani YouTube channels comes from outside the country. The number indicates that the content created by Pakistani YouTubers is highly popular all across the globe,” Farhan S. Qureshi.

He also shared that overall growth of 35pc was recorded on a yearly basis as more than 300 channels now have more than 1 million subscribers. Over 4500 YouTube channels now have more than 100,000 subscribers, registering a growth rate of 45pc, he added.

Qureshi also revealed that popular Pakistani YouTube channels are now making over Rs1 million annually recording a growth rate of more than 140pc year-over-year. He stated that YouTube encourages its content creators to grow financially stable.

During the panel discussion, the content creators also shared the stories of their YouTube journey as to how they started it off, how they managed to build a community, how it [YouTube] changed their life and where they stand today.

Saad Ur Rehman, popularly known as ‘Ducky Bhai’ recalled that he started his YouTube channel five years ago. “I used to make gaming and tech-related tutorial videos. I used to ask shopkeepers and friends to lend me their gadgets so I could record videos on them. I learnt to edit, created ‘Ducky Bhai’ and things changed. It grew to podcasts, Vlogs and ‘Ducky Extra’,” he said.

Dr Iqra Kanwal, the owner of the highly popular YouTube channel Sistrology, shared a similar story. According to her, the channel had initially witnessed a slow growth until she switched to vlogging. “Things have changed for good now,” she added.

Something Haute’s Aamna Haider Isani who quit her job to focus more on the content creation on YouTube shared that despite her being not tech savvy, her channel garnered good viewership, encouraging her to post more videos. Reflecting on how she managed to build a community, she said that she was absolutely overwhelmed when over 50 people turned up to meet her at a meet-up session in DC, United States.

Zia Tabaruk, the man behind the Street Food PK, also called it a day at his professional job despite his family’s reservations and switched to YouTube. Not only did the decision pay off for him financially, but Tabaruk now gets to be as creative with his videos as he wants.

That people are now shifting to YouTube to earn reflects a shift in the mindset of the general public. It is no surprise that the video-streaming platform has managed to get the attention of the masses who are now looking to build a community of their own on the platform. The creators were of the opinion that there is still much potential and space in the Pakistani market for new YouTubers who can make content and earn living.

Tom Cruise never fails to impress us with his breath-taking performances and has continued this trend with his box-office hit “Top Gun Maverick”. This masterpiece is set to cross the $900 million mark on the charts and is being touted as the first billion-dollar movie. There is no doubt that this project deserves every bit of praise it is currently receiving due to its outstanding cinematography and breathtaking scenes, which made the audience sit in awe, their eyes glued to the screen for the next 2 hours.

Not only does the film create a nostalgic episode for every member of the audience who has seen the first part during their younger days and has been waiting restlessly for the sequel, it takes a deep dive into the life of every fighter pilot who has ever or will ever fly for their country, making it clear that duty comes above their personal interest. The concept was clearly highlighted when Maverick was ordered to prepare a group of young pilots for a covert operation rather than leading the operation himself which he highly resented.

Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun Maverick has beautifully encapsulated the concept of how unity amongst ranks and loyalty to the country creates a force that cannot be wrecked. Milles Teller who went by the code name “Rooster” played a vital role in tying up the knots from the previous part and helped put life in various scenes with his impassioned character who had a lot of anger built-in inside of him for reasons that come to light during the course of the movie.

The nail-bighting scenes of fighter jets performing drills and preparing for the operation were definitely keeping everyone on the edge of their seats as the effects were just too real and made sure the audience experienced the scenes to the full extent. Going into the theatre, I expected the storyline to be one of the driving factors of the film’s success. However, despite having rather a simple storyline, the details present in each effect and the build-up to the operation, in the end, were what made me want to watch more.

The climax of the film was incredibly executed with the whole theatre betting on Maverick and his teammates for the win. The close calls and unexpectedness present in the ending scenes surely were enough for me to get goosebumps. In general, the movie was a very wholesome experience having everything an audience wants; emotion, action, thrill, and suspense. Last but not the least, the acting skills of each and every character whether big or small was inexplicable and shows effort was put into the making.

It is rare that you come across Pakistani dramas that deviate from the routine tropes. Every now and then, when you see dramas like Neeli Zinda Hai or Dilnawaz, they seem refreshing even though they are supposed to be scary. Ibrahim’s story presages even tougher times ahead for the common man in Pakistan.

Mohammad Ibrahim bought one kilogram of milk and bread, the shopkeeper deducted Rs245 instead of Rs225, which was the price a day before on June 5, because milk price has been increased by Rs20 to Rs170. Ibrahim could not buy two eggs for his children because he brought only Rs250 with him from home since he was already under budget constraints with his salary of Rs30,000.

“Petrol prices have been increased by Rs60/liter or 40% in a span of seven days which will not only increase inflation directly but also indirectly through higher food prices,” said Umair Naseer, Associate Director Research, Topline Securities.

Ibrahim, who did not see an income increase since the last three years, has seen his budget going out of his control. He has already been borrowing from friends and family and has been working part-time whenever he gets an opportunity to make his ends meet with higher utility and grocery bills.

“These are tough decisions but had to be taken as the IMF has demanded us to completely remove these subsidies,” said Umair Naseer. “We are still giving subsidies of Rs9/liter on Petrol and Rs23/liter on Diesel which will also be removed and we will have a further increase in prices.”

“NEPRA has thus far increased power tariff by Rs7/unit, however it is still to be approved by ECC and Federal Cabinet. There is a likelihood, that power tariff may not be increased completely in one go,” Naseer said.

Ibrahim was unable to pay his electricity bill in the past and was now fearing power company’s officials would visit any time to cut his power connection over non-payment of bills. He is also nervous how he would pay the two-month bill together, and that too with increased unit price.

However, industry experts say the government had to take these tough decisions, which has certainly shown immense pressure on lower and middle-income groups.

“These are tough times for common man where it is necessary for them to reduce their fuel consumption and reduce unnecessary consumption,” said Umair Naseer.

“It is also important for the government to take steps that reduce consumption. Measures similar to those taken during COVID days could be very effective like reduced working hours, reduced hours for malls etc.” he added.

Ibrahim is not the only one who has to face increased hardships due to increase in inflation.

According to government statistics shared by Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, 37% of the households have earnings less than Rs40,000 per month, which means 14 million households or 84 million people. The average income for households earning less than Rs40,000 in Pakistan is Rs31,373.

With a significant increase in fuel price, Ibrahim has stopped using his motorcycle to take his children and family out and has started walking to buy groceries and for any other purpose within a walkable distance from his house. He was now using his motorcycle to reach the office on time.

He has also stopped buying any chocolates and candies for his children, which previously he would randomly. He is also now trying to use as less electricity as possible.
