5 Things Not To Replace In Your Car To Maintain Its Resale Value

part replacement that drops a cars resale value

Automobiles are meant to be treated with care. These are powerful machines that give you a lot of ease in day-to-day tasks. There are so many things to keep in mind when taking care of your own or someone else’s car because you want to make sure that the next owner of your car does not feel ripped off. If they are paying to buy it from you, they should never be cheated into it. There are certain part replacements that can reduce your car’s resale value. If you get any of these done, you can expect a drop in your vehicle’s price.

These drops are at a larger margin if the modification made is a big one. Let’s do a round-up of some parts that can drop the resale value should you choose to change them!

1. Repainting Car

Whether you wish to apply the old paint again or a new colour coat, it will drop the car’s resale value. You may not have any intentions behind the repaint other than making it look good. However, buyers can often get the impression that the paint has been done to hide scratches, dents and marks. This is what causes the resale value of the vehicle to drop. If you intend to re-paint the car, make sure you show it to the buyer before the new paint and verify its integrity.

2. Headlights

It takes a head-on hit or a speed hit to completely shatter the headlights. If they have been replaced more than once, they will drop the value of your car. People prefer their cars to be accident-free so if yours has been in an accident, one involving headlights, buyers might think about a lower price. If you change headlights for aesthetic value, make sure to replace them with the original ones before selling.

3. Transmission Alteration

Now, this is something that can be noticed in older cars. Often people, for ease, alter the transmission of their car from manual to automatic. However, not only does it affect the fuel average adversely, but it also drops the resale value of the car. So, if there is a car that has had a transmission change, it might be sold at a considerably less price. If the car was in production as a manual, then alteration drops value.

4. Mismatched Tyres

If a buyer sees three similar tyres and one off-brand or type wheel, they might not want to pay as much. A mismatched set of wheels gives off the impression that the wheel was changed last-minute and the car was not handled with care. This gives rise to the question as to what other parts of the car have not been looked after. So, before selling your car or having it shown, make sure all your tyres are of the same brand and type.

5. Windshield

Here is a part that is quite essential in a vehicle. Additionally, a windshield is quite sturdy due to the double pane. If there is something that shatters your windshield and causes a replacement, it can drop the resale value of the vehicle as well. Buyers want their vehicles to be as close to their original as possible so any such changes will cause a drop in the price.

Here’s How Coca-Cola Is Reducing Its Carbon Footprint

There is a scientific consensus that global climate change is occurring and that human-caused GHG emissions are a contributing factor. The implications of climate change for our planet are profound and wide-ranging, with expected impacts on energy and water resources, agriculture and biodiversity.

In the past, Coca-Cola has been the biggest global brand to publish the greenhouse gases and add to carbon footprint. Mainly produced by making, packaging, transporting, chilling, and disposing of their most popular products. The study, done with the government-funded Carbon Trust, showed a standard 330ml can of Coke embodies the equivalent of 170g of carbon dioxide (CO2e), and the same sized Diet Coke or Coke Zero 150g.

Coca-Cola Stands For Climate

Now the company is evolving their climate change goals to align with current climate science.

Coca-Cola’s Science Based Target (SBT) is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25%. Across the entire value chain by 2030 as compared to a 2015 baseline. The SBT differs from the existing “drink-in-your-hand” target, as instead of a relative target (to reduce emissions per volume) it is an absolute target to reduce the total greenhouse gas emissions by 25%, regardless of the volume growth.

This change is set with current industry best practices while reflecting an ambitious decoupling of greenhouse gas emissions from the sales growth.

The company’s carbon footprint quantifies the total greenhouse gas emissions produced directly or indirectly from the company’s activities. Refer to them below.

Scope 1 Emissions (Direct GHG Emissions):

Emissions occur from sources owned or controlled by the company. This includes the combustion of fossil fuels within our buildings and fuel consumption in fleet vehicles.

Scope 2 Emissions (Indirect GHG Emissions)

Indirect emissions result from the generation of purchased energy. This includes the emissions resulting from the generation of electricity, heat, and steam purchased by The Coca-Cola Company from a utility provider.

Scope 3 Emissions (Other Indirect GHG Emissions)

All other emissions in the value chain, both upstream and downstream. This includes emissions from growing and processing the ingredients for the products. From production and landfilling of the packaging as well as the use of refrigeration units by the customers.

Priyanka Chopra, amongst other notable Bollywood personalities, is all fuming over the latest ad that was making rounds on Indian televisions. The ad is about a perfume however, the innuendo it piggybacks on is of sexual assault and violence. The personalities who are speaking against it are appalled considering the context of India being the rape capital of the world. Here’s everything that’s going down with the ad:

Read more: Here’s Why This NFT Collection Was Made With Real Cancer Cells

What Was The Ad About?

The ad shows a woman alone in a shop and four men eyeing her. They say something along the lines of, “four of us and one of the other, who will take the shot?” Then it is revealed that ‘the shot’ is actually the name of the perfume. In all of this, people are appalled at the insinuation of gang rape that is taken as a joke in this ad. Have a look at the ad:

Who Is Speaking Out?

Priyanka Chopra replied to a tweet about it saying that this was “appalling”. She questioned even the process by which this ad must have gotten the green light.

Besides her, Richa Chadha and Swara Bhaskar also took the opportunity to openly condemn this ad and what it implies. How can this be considered a joke or be taken as a normal ad?

Farhan Akhtar also spoke against the ad. Everybody is fixated on how “shameful” this ad is in the given context.

What Has Been Done Since Then?

Here’s Why Designer Shehla Chatoor’s Recent Ad Is Making People Cringe

shehla chatoor ad cringe

It has become the norm for designers to create short films and editorials to accompany the release of their collections. Shehla Chatoor is one such renowned designer who created an editorial to go with her latest release of opulent dresses. However, unfortunately, netizens can’t help but make fun of the editorial and it seems like a miss. Here’s what’s going on:

What Is In The Ad?

The ad shows the models vibing in their own world. Some are munching on a watermelon slice, dancing randomly, laughing at absolutely nothing. At some points, they also put their model face on and then strut with the clothes which perhaps is the best part. However, the sitting and laughing for no reason with random props in the hands did not sit well with netizens.

Have a look at the ad:

Why Are People Cringing?

The comments are amusing because they really show that this ad was not for people. People are making fun of the “sugar high” and mocking the models by saying “oh wish we were this cool”. All of this has some people questioning what is going on in the world. Outside we’re being marked by an economic recession yet brands continue to churn out this oblivious and senseless content? People are genuinely confused about which world these brands and people live in.

Who would want to see models laughing and eating watermelon and think yes, I want to buy these clothes? Have a look at the comments:

Taking It Too Far?

shehla chatoor ad cringe

The whole designer business has become a big “taking it too far” episode. To begin with, everyone is in a rat race to be the best and be the most expensive! What use is an editorial for someone who is trying to sell clothes? It’s just a senseless gimmick to try and sell clothes. Keeping this in mind, even the content that is being shown in these editorials makes no sense.

If it had been an editorial in which models were actually shown showing the outfits and all it still would have appealed to a crowd. Netizens may be harsh but they’re not illogical. They have a point here!

Unilever Pakistan Recycles Plastic Waste Equal To Half Of Plastic Used In Local Operations

PRESS RELEASE – Unilever Pakistan has collected and recycled plastic waste equivalent to half (50%) of the plastic used in its operations annually. This has been achieved in a period of two years, as part of the ambition of becoming 100% plastic neutral by 2025.

Last year, Unilever Pakistan pledged to recover, recycle and reuse 100% of the plastic generated through its operations by 2025. As part of this effort, the company partnered with stakeholders from the industry, government, and the development sector to eradicate plastic waste and invest in initiatives to reuse and repurpose plastic.

Amir Paracha, Chairman & CEO, Unilever Pakistan said on the occasion, “Protecting the world from the impact of climate change needs all of us to work collaboratively. Reducing the plastic footprint is just one aspect of this cause and one organization alone cannot turn the tide. We must work together to find innovative ways to amplify the impact of positive climate actions to create a greener, cleaner, and more prosperous world for everyone.”

The announcement was made as part of celebrations of World Environment Day 2022, where Unilever Pakistan announced the results of a recent partnership, titled ‘Dastan-e-Plastic’ with ISP Environmental Solutions for the collection of plastic waste in Lahore. The effort is part of a pilot project, collecting plastic waste from 5,440 households in Lahore. The project is expected to become self-sustaining by the end of 2022, and provides sustainable employment for 22 scavengers and 21 informal recyclers (kabaris).

On the day, Unilever Pakistan also signed an MoU with Sharmeen Polymers to use recycled plastic in the packaging material developed for Unilever products. The Research and Development team at Unilever Pakistan and Sharmeen Polymers are collaborating to develop Pakistan’s first shampoo bottle, using locally sourced recycled plastic. Unilever Pakistan is also a founding member of Pakistan’s first packaging alliance CoRe (Collect & Recycle), working to responsibly produce and recycle consumer plastic.

This collaboration is being called “the first NFT series designed to save lives.” It is also revolutionary because it’s an entirely new type of medical funding model.

What Does It Do?

The project takes microscopic images of real, live cancer cells, and uses them in such a way that beautiful artworks are made. These artworks are then sold as NFTs. The photos — the first of which were snapped by Tomasz Cichoń́, Ph.D., and Ryszard Smolarczyk, Ph.D. in March — were taken via a confocal microscope. These photos are cells of cancer patients.

Pawel Swanski — a Warsaw-based artist and designer known for his large-format murals featuring undulating, complex linework — then came in. He transformed the photographs into paintings. These paintings are mind-blowing because they depict an ivy-like design suffocating cancer cells. Three paintings have been made and turned into NFTs.

What Is This For?

Funds made from sales of the NFTs will be donated to the Alivia Cancer Foundation. These funds will help finance a pricey cancer therapy known as CAR-T. This is cutting-edge and highly effective immunotherapy that is relatively new. In essence, CAR-T therapy genetically modifies a patient’s existing lymphocytes, or immune cells, enabling these cells to recognize and fight off cancer cells within the body. However, the issue is that it is incredibly expensive and most cancer patients do not have the funds for them.

The therapy costs around $400,000 per patient and it’s not always covered by insurance. The first patient whose cells were photographed for the series is Jakub Burnos who is a student at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland. Burnos suffers from a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma.

Is You Tube A Viable Option For Content Creators?

The 20th Century has witnessed the birth of many useful virtual platforms which have provided numerous facilities to the rapidly growing tech-oriented population and served as a mean of income for many new and creative content creators. YouTube has been one of the most largest and popular platforms by making everything and anything literally a click away.  It has been a mean of providing a huge platform to many content creators and has generated millions in revenue virtually. However, the question arises that with the rapidly developing tech world, is it the best long-term option for content creators and are they happy with the platform?

In reality, there are many streamers and content creators who are not too happy with YouTube as a mean of income and content delivery due to many concerning reasons.  Firstly, a number of YouTube channels such as “Toy Freaks” and “Family of Five”  with millions of subscribers have noticed that bans on accounts are pervasive with not much check and balance hence, many have lost their subscribers and earnings due to these bans and all the years of hard work and creativity have gone down the drain.

Furthermore, accounts are blocked or banned due to a sudden change in YouTube’s policy leaving YouTubers worried about the longevity of the platform. Getting these accounts back is a hassle that every YouTuber dreads going through. In addition, there isn’t a freedom of opinion as viewers report content which they disagree with; strangling the income and exposure a Youtuber expects hence leaving no aspiration for new content creators.

To tackle this, a personal website of a content creator is recommended by many who have gone through this muddle which allows for much more freedom in content creation and a way of earning a secure income. Entities such as “pinepagecom” facilitate creators with establishing their own websites and advertising them while providing new business-making opportunities.

Creators can customize their own website to suit their subject and not worry about unnecessary penalties. More streams of income can also be generated by integrating with other brands and making their website available on all domains. YouTubers can also advertise on their website keeping every penny to themselves and explore a membership option for exclusive content available for subscribers who pay a premium price.

Although the idea is relatively new and will take a few years to be a potential threat to YouTube’s survival, YouTubers like Linus Tech and many more who have invested in their own website are working to spread the concept since they believe people don’t mind paying some extra dollars to see their favorite YouTuber releasing exclusive content.

Although the exposure gained on YouTube has no match but these issues faced by many make us wonder if it really is a long-term option for content creators.

Famous Pakistani Cricketers: Then & Now

There is nothing that unites Pakistanis quite like their love for cricket. This one sport has the power to keep traffic off roads, and see the crime rates drop drastically whenever it is being aired, especially if Pakistan is playing against archrival India.

And when the love of the game is so deeply enrooted in us all, it is needless to say, we hold our cricket players in the highest regard. After all, everything else in our lives get clean bowled, once the match begins.

Since our cricket players are nothing short of celebrities, we decided to take a look at their lives and the transformations they have gone through over the years.

1) Wasim Akram

One of the most loved cricketers is Pakistan, Wasim Akram has always been popular with the ladies. The 49-year-old sportsman still looks his best and can be seen gracing social events with his gorgeous wife Shaniera in tow.

10) Saqlain Mushtaq

Another player to have crossed over to the religious side, Saqlain Mushtaq is barely recognizable now. We remember him as the clean shaved toothy-grinned player. Now however, he’s the next door neighbor telling you to stop playing at Magrib.

Economic Pinch And Growing Telecom Woes

The current economic crunch has added to the woes of the people and has worsened the prevailing challenges in many industries; especially the telecom industry. While regulatory issues regarding taxation, spectrum allocation and prices of license renewal have continued to hamper the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Pakistan, what gets little attention from local policymakers is the resulting decrease in profits and investment; which is particularly true for MNOs that have foreign ownership.

When mobile broadband services were launched eight years ago, the five MNOs that had heavily invested in 3G and 4G services were confident in winning back the investment by an increased earning; however, most telecoms could not make the profits they were initially expecting and contrary to their estimates had started to lose the average revenue per user (ARPU).

Recently, local telecom players have had to shift their focus to growing subscribers rather than investing in expanding the telecom infrastructure of the country. As ARPU for most telecoms continues to reduce, despite the enhanced 4G network coverage, organic growth has become harder to achieve. In such circumstances, we have already seen one major merger with rumours of another telecom looking to exit the market, in contrast, smaller telecoms such as Ufone (that got their 4G license only one year ago) have to re-strategise to make sustainable growth in the industry.

Starting with the macroeconomic crisis of 2018-19 and recently the Covid pandemic, Pakistani telecoms have made some incredible efforts to keep citizens connected during these challenging times; despite all the changing demand patterns and amplified data demand. Also, the quality of service issues has become more pronounced. While tackling these problems remains a priority for all telecoms; the exacerbated macroeconomic situation leaves no respite in sight.

What comes as a major area of concern for Pakistan is that out of the 4 large telecom players in the country. Three of them have HQs based in foreign countries and so any organic revenue gained has been minimalistic due to the sharp depreciation in Pakistan’s currency, dealing a severe blow to foreign direct investment (FDI) in the telecom ecosystem as well as the growth for the telecoms in Pakistan. During such times, the decision to buy spectrum, renew licenses and provide bandwidth, equipment and components becomes extremely expensive for local telecoms, as the prices for all these allocations are placed in U.S Dollars, with little margin for profit for the MNOs.

Considering that the top-three MNOs all refrained from participating in last year’s spectrum auction (held in September) due to these issues highlighted above, the new government is faced with the opportunity to respond constructively and address the telecom industry’s main concerns.

Moving forward, it will be essential for the government to provide some much-needed respite to the local telecoms and bring down taxes and appreciate that it is the MNOs and their investment in local telecom infrastructure that has played an instrumental role in the development of the digital economy of Pakistan, especially during the demanding days of the pandemic. As the government is faced with difficult decisions, it would be in the country’s best interest to trust the local telecoms with building a more digitally inclusive Pakistan and understand that economic stability can be realised through ensuring seamless connectivity and providing greater accessibility to not just the people, but the telecom industry.
