Samsung has released a new MilkVR mobile app reportsVariety, allowing users to watch 360-degree video content. The new app will enable users to watch more 360-degree videos even without one of the brand’s Gear VR virtual reality headsets.

However, the new app is limited to only the newer Samsung phones, including the newly-released Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Samsung has released a new MilkVR mobile app, allowing users to watch 360-degree video content.

For those that can download and enjoy the app, users will be able to browse the Milk VR catalog, which includes more than 700 titles, and watch many of the videos that have already been featured on the Gear VR headset using only their mobile. Videos can also be downloaded and saved for later.

Alibaba Expands in Southeast Asia With $1 bn deal

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba will acquire a controlling stake in leading Southeast Asian online shopping platform Lazada for $1.0 billion, it said Tuesday as Jack Ma’s company seeks to expand outside its home market.

Alibaba’s Taobao platform is estimated to have more than 90 percent of the consumer-to-consumer market in China while its Tmall platform is believed to command more than half of business-to-consumer transactions.

But its international commerce business only accounted for six percent of its revenue for the quarter ended in December, its latest earnings report showed.

Alibaba is investing $500 million in newly issued Lazada shares and acquiring stock from some existing holders to take a majority stake in the firm for a total of around $1 billion, according to the statement, which did not specify Alibaba’s total holding.

The deal values Lazada at $1.5 billion, a shareholder — Germany’s Rocket Internet — said in a separate statement.

“With the investment in Lazada, Alibaba gains access to a platform with a large and growing consumer base outside China, a proven management team and a solid foundation for future growth in one of the most promising regions for e-commerce globally,” Alibaba president Michael Evans said.

Lazada claims to be Southeast Asia’s “number one” online shopping and selling platform with a presence in six countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore — where it is headquartered.

Lazada’s chief executive Max Bittner said the deal will help the company leverage the Chinese firm’s knowhow and technology to improve its own services, according to the Alibaba statement.

Analysts said the deal would give Alibaba greater access to other Asian markets.

“Overseas expansion requires a lot of investment in logistics, it would take Alibaba much longer to build the business from the ground up,” Li Yujie, a Hong Kong-based analyst at RHB Research Institute, told Bloomberg News.

“What Alibaba could do is integrate the businesses and introduce more existing merchants to Lazada to export their products overseas.”

Facebook Messenger Introduces Direct Sharing of Dropbox Files

Dropbox announced on its blog on Monday that its files are now available to share using Facebook Messenger. Dropbox has launched the new feature to make it easier for their users to share files, photos, and videos by using in Facebook Messenger.

Easy to use, iOS and Android users can now just have to tap the More button in Messenger. Dropbox will pop up as an available option to share any file, without having to leave the Messenger app.

Dropbox users can now share files directly from Facebook Messenger.

Videos and images will appear in Messenger chats, with all other files taking users to the Dropbox mobile app, where files can be easily saved and shared.

Commenting on the launch, Stan Chudnovsky, head of product for Messenger said, “We want people to communicate just the way they want to on Messenger, with everyone they care about. Giving our users the ability to share their Dropbox videos and in Messenger threads with just a few taps will help them bring more style and personality to those conversations.”

To share via Messenger users will need to download the Dropbox mobile app for iOS and Android from the App Store and the Play Store.

Parisheh James and Ayesha omer were consistently good while bloggers were amazing on red carpet. Moiz, Aamir Bukhari. Anusheh Shahid, Maha Burney and Umair Mirza were killing it on the red carpet. HSY takes the title of best red carpet designer.

The Best Models of FPW16

Ramps has its own aura to it and some models really accentuate it with their poise and walk. FPW16 ramp has been graced by top models of our industry. I would like to give bets male model title this year to Shahzad Noor and Female model to Fouzia Aman and Aamna babar. Similarly Sunita Marshall wowed us on the ramp constantly with her stunning looks and funky styling. They should keep slaying the ramp for years to come.

Best Collection of FPW16 – Womenswear

To be very honest there were very few cohesively great collections this year. Zaheer Abbas and Fnk Asia by Huma Adnan were the best collections to me. The best thing was the styling and accessories of various collections that stand out as Most memorable ones. Like you might forget Wardha’s collection but those hand painted bags will remain in memories. Zainab Chottani with her Cobalt Blue collection gave some creatively unique ideas to wear Demin other than just a pair of jeans.

The most Notable Moment of FPW2016

While the fashion scene in Pakistan has already made waves within the country, nobody knew that it was turning heads overseas as well. This year’s most Notable moment of FPW was the coming on board of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) as a collaborator and official sponsor. Along with giving Pakistani designers a chance to showcase their designs abroad, the presence of the French Designer Mr. Oliver Lapidus at the event, handing out praises and promising a collaboration between Pakistan and France, was a moment of pride.

India vs Pakistan Azlan Shah Cup 2016: India Beat Pakistan 5-1

UPDATE: India beat Pakistan at the 25th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016 at Azlan Shah Stadium, Ipoh, Malaysia in a pool match by 5-1. The Indian team improved their game and reached a convincing 5-1 victory over the rivals Pakistan.

India gained a 2nd spot in the league standings after today’s victory. This is the 3rd victory of the tournament by India after they defeated Canada and Japan.

Pakistan Hockey team is all set to face the Indian hockey team in a pool match as part of the 25th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament. The tournament is being held in Ipoh, Malaysia this year and hockey fans from all over the world are expected to gather at the venue to witness the clash of the titans one more time!

According to the details, the Azlan Shah Cup Tournament final match will be played on April 16th. The details also included that seven teams are to participate in the tournament and each team will get a chance to play six pool matches. There is also a place for the fifth and sixth position in the tournament.

India has already qualified for the RIO Olympics 2016 and playing in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup is the perfect preparation for the grand event.

India has defeated Canada and Japan in the competition; however, their performances have not been up to the mark yet. Sardar Singh and his team need to display better hockey performance in order to defeat Pakistan.

Pakistan has played matches against Australia, Canada, and New Zealand in the tournament so far, winning only one against Canada 3 -1 on April 6th.

Pakistan won the Azlan Shah Cup earlier in 1998, 2000 and 2003; Pakistan also stood as the runner-up six times in the history for the same cup.

Kate Middleton’s ‘Marilyn Monroe’ Moment In India Creates Media Outrage

One of India‘s top newspapers faced a social media backlash on Tuesday after it splashed a picture across its front page of Britain’s Princess Kate suffering a “Marilyn moment” as her dress blew up in the wind.

Readers accused the Times of India of being disrespectful to the Duchess, who was wearing a white 1950s-style dress reminiscent of the one in the iconic Marilyn Monroe photo as she laid a wreath at the India Gate war memorial with her husband, Prince William.

‘Times of India‘ was one of the top trending topics on Twitter on Tuesday morning as users questioned the paper’s judgement in picturing the Duchess inadvertently flashing an expanse of royal thigh.

“Sleazy journalism at its best,” tweeted reader Shagun in response to the image, which was accompanied by the headline” Kate’s Marilyn moment at India Gate”.

“Well done Times of India! Our guests come to India and this is the photo you decide to put on your front page…” tweeted another.

Many recalled an incident last year in which the paper was strongly criticised for promoting video footage of a top Bollywood actress with a tweet that read “OMG! Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show”.

But Shekhar Gupta, who has edited some of India‘s biggest news publications, took a different view.

“Objections to ToI on Kate’s Marilyn moment silly. Brits have a grown-up view of royals as glamorous celebs,” Gupta tweeted.

Britain’s newspapers took a more restrained approach.

Several published shots of her dress blowing up in the wind, but none was as revealing as the picture on the front page of The Times of India.

Popular tabloid The Sun came closest with an image of the Duchess laying the wreath under the headline “A Royal Flash in India — Kate’s Marilyn moment”.

The Daily Telegraph — a conservative daily known for its royal coverage — said a series of such problems had prompted “suggestions that she should follow the Queen’s lead and slip small lead curtain weights into the linings of her outfits”.

PIA Conversion Bill Finally Passed By Parliament

The parliament finally gave the green signal to the PIA bill that changed the national airlines into a ‘public limited’ entity yesterday; this decision came through after 4 months of political stalling.

As per the statement of objects and the reasons stated for the creation of the bill, it said that the national carrier that was initiated under the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Act. 1956 had not been able to carry out its statutory mandate effectively.

The major reason behind the need for such a bill was cited as a provision of improved quality of service to the masses as well as an incentive to potential strategic partners.

In the recent times, PIA has not been generating even a mild portion of profit; the government, on the other hand, wants to make sure that the national carrier continues to operate and be able to attain operational and performance based efficiency. Also, promotion of modernized development that requires the support of capital, skills, and technology that is managed most effectively.

To attain these objectives, the government under the Companies Ordinance, 1984 had to make PIA a public limited company. This transformation will hopefully assist the government in rejuvenating the entire organization.

New sub-clauses were also added in clause 4 under sub-clause (3):

Representation on the Board of Directors and all other rights and privileges of shareholders of the Company, or any of its subsidiary companies carrying on air-transport business, shall be proportionate to their share-holding.

The federal government shall carry out or cause to be carried out valuation of the assets of the Company, and its subsidiary companies carrying on air-transport business, by a recognized valuator before transforming any shares of these companies to a third party.

The bill had been rejected twice in the Senate but the National Assembly moved it with a support of the majority of the votes in its favor. The administration of the airlines will not be given to the shareholders and the salaries of the employees will not be affected as per the bill.

The Board of Governors will have the managing authority but the representation among them will reflect the number of shares.

Maalik Pakistani Movie Box Office Report

Maalik, a movie showcasing theme tinted with patriotism, was released last week on Friday. The movie includes a strong storyline and relatively better content than we have seen so far this year.

The movie cast shows Asher Azeem, Sajid Hassan, Farhan Ally Agha, Hassan Niazi, Rashid Farooqi, Adnan Shah, Tatmain ul Qulb , Ehteshamuddin, Erum Azam, Pakiza Khan, Lubna Aslam and Marium Ansari. Music has been composed by Sahir Ali Bagga with the stunning vocals rendered by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

Maalik is also the directorial debut of the 90’s popular spy drama ‘Dhuwan’. About the movie, Azeem said, “Our aim is to give a message to all our viewers to take ownership of their country and their loved ones and I hope that the audience will appreciate our efforts.”

On the opening, the movie surprisingly earned decently well on the box-office. The major chunk was earned from Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore. However, the newly launched Cinepax Cinemas in Murree and Quetta also witnessed crowds of enthusiastic people lining up to watch the movie.

Unofficially, the estimated numbers per city for Maalik on the box-office collected:

40 Lacs in Karachi
35 Lacs in Lahore
25 Lacs in Islamabad
In other cities – 20 lacs

The unofficial number adds up to 1.20 crore. The numbers for the second day and how the movie fared internationally haven’t been revealed as yet.

However, locally the Box Office collections for Maalik’s first weekend have been predicted to go beyond the 5 crore figure.

Car Sales In Pakistan Increase Due To Cheap Financing

There was a 35% spike in the sales of commercial vehicles, jeeps, and vans manufactured locally during the first 9 months of the fiscal year 2015-16 (9MFY16). The reasons behind the increase in sales is two folds; the ownership of cars generally has become more affordable given the lowered interest rate of 42-year.

Other than that, the reason cited is the relative stabilization in the economy that has raised the demand along with the taxi scheme introduced by the government of Punjab.

Muhammad Tahir Saeed from Topline Securities commented that the sale of the local vehicles was 166,898 as opposed to the 123,638 units last year in the same time span during the first 9 months.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company went to 100,663 units taking them up to 51% year-on-year (YoY) in sales. However, the volume experienced a downward spike of 30% YoY and went up on month-on-month basis to almost 8% given the sale of 9,055 units.

Indus Motors’ YoY sales remained almost constant with 5,781 units but the sales increased almost 10% on MoM basis. In the same time span of 9MFY16, 47,504 units were sold as compared to the 40,141 last year (9MFY15). Depending on the variant the delivery of the new Corolla model may take two to four months as per Saeed.

With 16% YoY and 27% MoM increase in sales as per March 2016’s numbers, Honda Atlas Cars sold 18,542 units during the 9MFY16 opposed to 16,405 units in the same time duration last year.

“We believe that Honda City remained the major contributor to this growth,” said Saeed. “However, volumes of Honda Civic are expected to further dry out in coming months in anticipation of a new model launch.”

On the other hand, however, the tractor sales dipped to a 33% YoY low in sales with it only being able to sell 22,169 units.

Dubai To Build World’s Tallest Building After Burj Khalifa

Dubai plans to build a tower that will stand higher than its Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest skyscraper, property developer Emaar said Sunday.

The viewing tower will cost around $1 billion (880 million euros) and will be “a notch” taller than Burj Khalifa, Emaar chairman Mohamed Alabbar told reporters as he revealed details of the project.

But he said that the final height will be announced upon completion, adding that his company would like to present the tower as a “gift to the city before 2020,” the year Dubai hosts the world Expo trading fair.

Designed by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls, the tower will have observation decks, in addition to 18 to 20 mixed-use floors that will host restaurants and a boutique hotel, Alabbar said.

Burj Khalifa is 828 metres (2,700 feet) high and it cost $1.5 billion to build. It was opened in January 2010.

Alabbar described the new structure as an “elegant monument” which would add value to the property being developed by the company along the city’s creek.

“Many would like to have a view” when considering buying a property, he said.

The tower will be slender, evoking the image of a minaret, and will be anchored to the ground with sturdy cables, Emaar said.

Dubai has established a reputation for building dozens of futuristic skyscrapers, which have transformed its skyline.

Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holding is building a tower in Jeddah that is planned to surpass Burj Khalifa, rising more than a kilometre.

A new “blitz” trailer has been released for the upcoming DC Comics movie “Suicide Squad” reports Deadline. The latest trailer was unveiled at Sunday’s MTV Awards by stars of the film Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne.

The fun and fast-paced trailer gives fans another look at the movie ahead of its release on August 5. The film will see government officials assemble a team of DC Comics bad guys in the hope that they will take down a group even more evil than them.

The movie boasts a starry line-up, with Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Cara Delevingne as The Enchantress. This new trailer also gives us a longer look at Jared Leto’s incredible transformation into The Joker.

BlackBerry Announces 2 New Android Phones In 2016

BlackBerry has announced it will release two new smartphones later this year reports The Verge. CEO John Chen announced in an interview this week that the new smartphones will both run Android, and while one will come with a physical keyboard, the other will have a touch screen.

Both phones are also set to fall into a lower, mid-level price range than BlackBerry’s previous release, the $699 Priv, possibly below the $500 mark.

The phones are apparently code-named the Rome and the Hamburg, however, further details, and a launch date are yet unclear.

Pakistan’s latest singing sensation, Taher Shah has penned a blog where he has talked about his ideology, feelings and motivation behind his new viral song, Angel. In his blog, Shah has shared his thoughts on how he came up with the idea behind ‘Angel’ song:

“Mankind is a beautiful “Angel”. Loneliness, love, and children are the key elements in his life. Life is god’s gift, loneliness itself is a lesson, Love is heaven and children are “Angels”. These three aspects all have the same meaning that humans should spread love, in loneliness express love then for their children and the world. Since “Angel” like love truly is life’s actual meaning and beauty with this in mind I created the poetry and wrote this song “Angel”.

Pakistani actress Veena Malik, once in the limelight for her controversies, also dissed the social media sensation, Taher Shah, making fun of his latest single ‘Angel’. Angel has already stirred quite the buzz on social media, locally as well internationally and Veena Malik too decided to join the bandwagon.

Audi Launches New One-Off Luxury Car

Audi has revealed the lengths it will go to to meet a client’s demands, and, in the case of the one-off A8 L luxury car unveiled on Monday, those lengths add up to 6.36 meters.

The bespoke limousine, based on the company’s flagship A8 L model, took a year to develop.

And while it simply looks like a stretched version of a standard car, Audi needed to totally redesign and rebuild everything beyond the A Pillar to ensure that six people could travel in complete comfort and that each occupant had his or her own door for getting in and out of the car.

Each passenger gets individual access to a full multimedia entertainment system while the very rear seat occupants also have access to an integrated cooler.

Perhaps most impressive is that despite the car’s huge size, Audi has managed to fit it with the same Quattro all-wheel drive system and ensure a 0-100km/h time of 7.1 seconds as well as the obligatory electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Despite being a one-off commission for a European client, on Monday Audi also confirmed that it has already received orders for the car, which it is tentatively calling the A8L Extended.

State Bank of Pakistan to Announce New Monetary Policy 2016

The State Bank of Pakistan may announce new monetary policy today; this will be the fifth monetary policy for the fiscal year 2015-16. According to a survey conducted by Dunya News, many analysts believe that the interest rate which currently stands at six percent, the lowest in past 40 years, will remain unvaried. A few analysts predict that bank is likely to slash the rate by 50 percent.

A few analysts, however, predict that the bank is likely to slash the rate by 50 percent. Expressing satisfaction over the shrinking losses, the bank did not make any changes in the interest rate in the last policy announced.

Governor State Bank Ashraf Wathra, while addressing a press conference indicated that the inflation rate was expected to remain at 4% this year.

He added that private sectors were getting more loans and hence the larger industry sector improved a lot; tax returns were also constantly on the rise.

He said the increased yield of wheat and other crops can help minimize the impact due to low cotton and rice production. The Governor also told that foreign exchange reserves had increased because of the IMF loan while more foreign investment will pour in due to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
