WI Captain Darren Sammy Gets Own Stadium After World T20 Win

Darren Sammy’s success in captaining the West Indies to the World Twenty20 title has been recognised by his native St Lucia after it was announced that the island’s main cricket ground would be renamed in his honour.

The Beausejour Cricket Ground will now be known as the Darren Sammy National Cricket Ground, with one of the stands to be named in honour of fellow St Lucian and Twenty20 winner Johnson Charles.

According to the West Indies Cricket Board, the announcement was made by the Prime Minister of St Lucia, Kenny D. Anthony, at a “welcome reception” on the island on Tuesday.

“The West Indies Cricket Board would like to congratulate West Indies captain, Darren Sammy and opener, Johnson Charles for the honour their home country St Lucia has bestowed on them,” the WICB added in a statement, issued from their St John’s, Antigua, headquarters.

Sunday’s victory over England, in a thrilling Kolkata final where Carlos Brathwaite hit four successive sixes in the last over, meant the West Indies became the first team to win the World Twenty20 title twice.

Sammy, 32, was also the West Indies’ captain when they beat then hosts Sri Lanka in the 2012 final in Colombo.

But immediately after the team’s latest triumph at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens ground, the all-rounder slammed the WICB for a “disappointing” lack of support, saying the team felt “disrespected” by their own officials.

Sammy’s comments came on the back of a bitter pay dispute that has dogged West Indies cricket for several years.

Dave Cameron, the WICB president, responded by calling Sammy’s remarks “inappropriate”.

However, Cameron added the board would meet players after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) next month to persuade them to play for the West Indies, rather than opt for lucrative franchise Twenty20 leagues.

“We want to see how we can find common ground in ensuring that the best players in the region are available for selection for West Indies teams,” Cameron said.

A pay dispute two years ago led to the team flying home in the middle of a tour of India and the players only reluctantly agreed to sign contracts for the World Twenty20 a few weeks before the tournament began.

WhatsApp Toughens Encryption after Apple-FBI Row

The popular messaging service WhatsApp said Tuesday it had implemented “full end-to-end encryption,” a move which steps up privacy but may lead to conflicts with law enforcement agencies.

The Facebook-owned mobile application with one billion users worldwide made the announcement following weeks of intense debate over efforts by US authorities to compel Apple to help break into an encrypted iPhone.

“WhatsApp has always prioritized making your data and communication as secure as possible,” a blog post announcing the change said.

“And today, we’re proud to announce that we’ve completed a technological development that makes WhatsApp a leader in protecting your private communication: full end-to-end encryption.”

This means that “when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to,” the statement said.

WhatsApp

“No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us.”

Moves by technology firms to implement the kind of encryption where even the companies themselves don’t have “keys” to unlock data have unleashed criticism in law enforcement circles claiming this creates “warrant-proof” spaces for criminals and others.

The blog post by WhatsApp co-founders Jan Koum and Brian Action said encryption is an important tool for its users.

“We live in a world where more of our data is digitized than ever before,” they wrote.

Google Introduces Image Search Using Emoji

“Every day we see stories about sensitive records being improperly accessed or stolen. And if nothing is done, more of people’s digital information and communication will be vulnerable to attack in the years to come. Fortunately, end-to-end encryption protects us from these vulnerabilities.”

WhatsApp is reportedly involved in a court battle similar to the one involving Apple, which fought a federal effort to provide assistance in unlocking an iPhone used by one of the shooters in last year’s San Bernardino killing spree.

Other reports say WhatsApp and another application called Telegram were used by the perpetrators of the November 13 Paris attacks that left 130 people dead.

US Congress is expected to consider legislation which would require technology firms to retain “keys” that could retrieve data in a criminal investigation, with a court order. Similar measures are under consideration in Britain and France.

A broad coalition of technology companies and activists have argued against any encryption rules that would allow “special access” for law enforcement, claiming these would be vulnerabilities that could be exploited by hackers or repressive governments, and threaten the security of banking, electronic commerce, trade secrets and more.

Victory for human rights

Tanya O’Carroll of Amnesty International welcomed the move, calling it “a major boost for people’s ability to express themselves and communicate without fear.”

“This is a huge victory for human rights, especially for activists and journalists who depend on strong and trustworthy communications to carry out their work without putting their lives at greater risk,” she said in a statement.

Koum said in the blog post that the move was “personal,” noting that “I grew up in the USSR during communist rule and the fact that people couldn’t speak freely is one of the reasons my family moved to the United States.”

Facebook in 2014 announced it was acquiring WhatsApp for an eye-popping $19 billion in stock and cash.

Analysts say WhatsApp is especially popular in some areas of Latin America, Asia, and Africa, where it is used in place of official telecom networks.

PM Nawaz Announces Commission To Investigate Panama Papers Claims

PM-Nawaz

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced Tuesday the formation of a commission to investigate allegations made in the so-called Panama Papers that linked his family to a series of offshore companies.

“I have decided to set up a high level judicial commission headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court. This commission will decide after its investigation that what is reality and how much weight these allegations should be given,” Sharif said in a TV address broadcast nationwide.

The leaked papers, comprising 11.5 million documents from Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, exposes how some of the world’s most powerful people have secreted their money offshore, and also implicated Sharif’s sons Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.

“Some of my friends advised me that because there are no allegations against me and that both of my sons are adults and responsible for their own affairs, I should remain separate from this issue,” Sharif said in the address.

“But my dear compatriots, I want the facts to be presented before the nation and every Pakistani should be aware of the reality of the allegations,” he continued.

Three of Sharif’s four children are named in the Panama Papers — daughter Maryam, who has been tipped to be his political successor, and sons Hasan and Hussain — with the records showing they owned London real estate through offshore companies administered by Mossack Fonseca.

“I would ask those who repeat these stereotypical allegations and stage everyday a circus, that they go in front of this commission and prove their allegations,” Sharif said, while emphasising that his family’s wealth had been hard earned and they were being victimised.

Panama Papers: Secret Accounts of World Most Powerful Leaked!

When the Panama Papers were first released, Sharif’s son Hussain denied the allegations, saying his family had done “nothing wrong”.

“Those apartments are ours and those offshore companies are also ours,” he said.

“There is nothing wrong with it and I have never concealed them, nor do I need to do that. It is according to British law and laws of other countries that it is a legal way to avoid unnecessary tax via offshore companies,” he told local tv channels.

Strange logic

Sharif said Hasan had lived in London since 1994 and Hussain in Saudi Arabia since 2000, where both run businesses — and emphasised that all their business dealings were in line with the laws and regulations of those countries.

“My father had established a steel factory near Makkah with the loans from Saudi Arabian banks when we were in exile. After some years, this factory was sold and these resources were used by my sons Hasan and Hussain for their new businesses,” Sharif said.

“This is a strange logic that if our children earn their legitimate money inside the country there is criticism, and if they work hard overseas and establish and run businesses, even then they are targeted by allegations,” he said.

Revenue generation is particularly sensitive for Pakistan‘s government, which is receiving a $6.6 billion bailout package from the IMF and has a tax-to-GDP ratio of 11 percent, among the lowest in the world.

As prime minister, Sharif has invited investment in Pakistan. But the latest revelations could raise uncomfortable questions about why his family has kept their wealth abroad.

Opposition leader Imran Khan had called for action against Sharif.

“Our stance vindicated again as Sharif’s wealth stashed abroad exposed,” he tweeted, adding the country’s accountability watchdog, tax authorities and election commission must take action.

The Panama Papers have whipped up a storm of controversy over offshore wealth, ensnaring political leaders, sports figures and underworld members across the globe in the scandal.

Courier Services’ Price to Rise in Pakistan

TCS

The government has been working on laws to create and enforce a regulatory framework for the Private Courier and Cargo/Logistics companies.

Quite a few hundred such service providers are operating locally. It is important to note that such a large scale sector has little or no such mechanism in place to monitor it or gather data relevant to it.

Through the implementation of the law, the government can not only earn revenue via renewal or licensing fee but the guidelines for these service providers can be assigned within which they’ll have to operate, in turn protecting the state and the consumers’ mutual interest; it will also discourage any skewed potential of competition arising.

TCS

‘The Pakistan Private Courier Services Regulatory Authority Bill 2015’ was put forward in the National Assembly by a private member. However, an MNA from Punjab, Mrs.Belum Hasnain posed questions about it and proposed her own modifications which were then forwarded to the standing committee for further decision.

After thorough discussion, the standing committee decided to work on a comparative statement on the private bill and stance of the Ministry of Communications about it.

The early draft proposed and brought forward by the Ministry of Communication included the following:

  • Establishment of Authority

Secretary (Communication Ministry) would be the Chairman

Authority will have four members from federal government and three from private sector as members

The Authority shall meet twice in a calendar year

  • Power and Functions: ‘The Authority shall issue licenses to private courier and regulate their operations, jurisdiction and conduct’
  • Inspections: ‘The Authority may authorize any officer to inspect the private courier.’
  • Suspension of license: ‘The Authority shall have the power to revoke the license of private courier or fine it which may extend to Rs 1 million on reasonable grounds.’

Mrs.Belum Hasnain proposed the following amendments:

  • No need for more than two members only belonging from the government
  • The Authority should commence meetings once in 3 months
  • The Authority shall make only recommendations especially on legislation to keep a check on unauthorized sale and purchase of explosives which may not be binding on the federal government.

The bill is yet to be finalized; the stakeholders have been requested to share their proposals and recommendations. There is no regulatory SOP for this service sector in place for now. The aim of the government is not to discourage new entrants but to decrease consumer suffering and promote a safer business environment.

Panasonic GX85 – New Mid Range Powerful Pocket Camera

Panasonic-Camera

Panasonic has added to its Lumix range of compact interchangeable lens cameras with the new GX85 which is big on style and performance but won’t break the bank, or split a jacket pocket.

The smartphone may have consigned the point-and-shoot digital camera to the history books, but it has also spurred imaging companies on in terms of innovation and in trying to build devices that offer something that an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge can’t.

In the case of the new Lumix, it’s the photographic performance and user control one would find on a mid-range DSLR but in a much smaller and lightweight package. The GX85 has a 16MP Live MOS Sensor without a low-pass filter. That basically means that the camera is primed for sharp, detailed images even when the subject is moving quickly or natural light is at a premium.

It’s responsive, too. Able to shoot at 10 frames per second (fps) via fixed autofocus and six fps when refocusing is needed.

Like a top-end smartphone, the latest Lumix captures 4K too, at 30 or 24 fps or when resolution is dropped down to full 1080 HD it can manage 60fps. This is all supported by in-body image stabilization, which should stop camera shake spoiling the composition.

But unlike any smartphone, the camera comes with a host of interchangeable lenses with their own integrated image stabilization. It comes as standard with a 14-42mm lens (the equivalent of a 28-84mm lens for those more familiar with full-frame DSLR cameras) with an f3.5-5.6 aperture so it should good enough for most street or travel photography scenarios, especially as the ISO can be pushed up to 25600.

It also has a viewfinder and a hinged, rotating touch screen for checking the framing of compositions and for adding effects and filters as well as simplifying the obligatory selfie. Captured images can also be edited and refocused in-camera before being sent, via wi-fi to the cloud, social media or simply a back-up hard drive.

And because the camera can be specified in either matte black or with a contrasting retro-style silver top plate, it has a timeless, Leica rangefinder quality about it, meaning that unlike this year’s phablet, it is still going to look cool in years to come.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera goes on sale in May with prices starting at $797 for the camera body plus lens bundle.

From Desktop to Mobile: Australia’s Entertainment Goes Digital

Mobile entertainment has always been seen as the way forward, but in 2015, we got to see just how popular the medium was thanks to the release of Netflix’s Aussie iOS app.

The online movie and TV show services have long been a favourite with Australians wanting to watch their shows via their desktop, but it wasn’t until March 2015 that the company finally released an iOS app.

According to Statista, more than 18.5 million Australians now use Smartphones and tablets and it’s this surge in popularity that helped push Netflix to the top of the iPad download chart in 2015.

iphone-1

Despite being on the market for less than 12 months (nine to be exact), Netflix shot to the top of the iOS download chart by the close of the year and, in turn, took the company’s Australian user base to 1 million.

Netflix Move the Tip of the Iceberg

This movement from desktop to mobile is one that’s been seen across a variety of industries in the last three years. In fact, according to Our Mobile Planet, 2013 saw 71% of Australians playing games via their Smartphones which, by today’s standards, would put the number of mobile gamers somewhere around the 13 million mark.

Much like Netflix, the iGaming company 32Red AU has also shifted its focus to the mobile area in the last three years. Anticipating the movement of the market, the company took its award-winning desktop software and transformed it into fully optimised iOS and Android apps.

Article-2

Essentially cherry picking its top games, including 32Red online slots Australia classics such as I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, the gaming operator has simultaneously appealed to our entertainment heritage and this new progressive technology.

Today, mobile gambling fans can now download 32Red AU onto their iOS, Android or Blackberry for free and not only play 18 casino-style games (think roulette and $1 million progressive jackpot pokies like Mega Moolah), but get $10 to try the software.

The Free App Revolution

Beyond Netflix and iGaming, Facebook’s messenger service also topped the recent list of mobile downloads. According to Apple’s stats, the chat app was the most popular app free app for iPhones at the close of 2015 and, as of March 2016, it was ranked third by App Annie (Gas Buddy was top).

Article-3

In reviewing the move from desktop to mobile entertainment, one factor appears to be fuelling the shift: cost. Although accessibility, convenience and quality are all major reasons why more people are now choosing to entertain themselves via their mobiles, all three of the apps we’ve mentioned are free to download.

Yes, it’s true that subscriptions or in-game purchases are necessary part of these apps, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that you don’t have to pay to download them. This dynamic is akin to the price rhetoric we often see in retail outlets: i.e. $19.99 instead of $20. Of course, there is nothing malicious about this strategy on the part of the company; in fact, what it does is it opens up the service to more people.

By giving users a taste of what they can get (i.e. 32Red AU giving customers $10 to play with or Netflix offering free previews), it makes it more likely they will become regular customers.

In fact, when you look at the stats from Roy Morgan Research in 2012, 55% of mobile gamers in Australia are likely to earn more than $50,000 and in full-time employment. As you’d expect, this demographic is one that’s willing to spend, but not as frivolously as those earning $100,000. Therefore, having a carefully structuring price plan is the best way to attract the most users possible.

More Aussies to Go Mobile by 2020

With more Aussies buying smart devices and companies such as Netflix, Facebook and 32Red shifting their focus from desktop to mobiles, the market is ripe for more players to enter the fray and that’s led to an explosion of native app developers in the last five years.

Article-4

From Buzinga and jtribe to App Square and Appster, Australian app developers are now springing up across the country. In fact, as well as developing mobile provisions for local companies such as Bongo, Buzinga has also worked with international brands such as Bupa.

Overall, mobile apps, moreover app development, is big business in Australia and it’s only getting bigger. As the country moves towards 80% national coverage (something Statista predicts will happen by 2017) and more companies move from desktop to mobile, the way we consume entertainment will continue to change and continue to become more portable as we head towards the close of the decade.

KPK Rain & Flood Death Toll Rises to 71!

Rains-and-floods

The death toll, after heavy rains in Pakistan‘s northwest and in Kashmir rose to 71 Tuesday, officials said, as rescuers sought to evacuate dozens of people still trapped by landslides.

Ten more people were found dead in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the weekend downpour triggered landslides and collapsed the roofs of dozens of houses.

“The number known to have died in rains so far in the northwest has now risen to 61 with over 350 houses damaged all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” a spokesman for the local disaster management authority said in a statement.

Rains-and-floods

At least 30 people were still stranded following a heavy landslide in the area of Khoistan, he said.

While in Pakistani-held Kashmir, dozens of local tourists remained marooned in the picturesque Neelum Valley as authorities attempted to evacuate them, a local official there told AFP.

At least 10 people have been confirmed killed there since the rain began Saturday.

“My children are sitting under the open sky. My cattle and belongings were trapped under the debris,” local resident Nasim Atakhar told AFP after her house collapsed.

Poorly built homes across Pakistan, particularly in rural areas, are susceptible to collapse during the annual spring rains, which are often heavy.

Severe weather in recent years has killed hundreds and destroyed huge tracts of prime farmland.

During the rainy season last summer, torrential downpours, and flooding killed 81 people and affected almost 300,000 people across the country.

Sarfraz Ahmed Appointed Pakistan T20 Cricket Captain

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed as the new T20 Cricket Captain after team’s dismal performance in World T20. The all-rounder wicket keeper will replace Shahid Afridi who recently resigned from his post along with the coach, Waqar Younis.

Sarfraz’s appointment was expected as he has proved his mettle as the Vice Captain in T20 and ODI formats. Known for his consistent performance on the field, Ahmed was the safest choice for the board which is under a lot of pressure after some serious allegations by Waqar Younis.

Sarfaraz has proved his captaincy in the recent PSL tournament where his team, Quetta Gladiators performed well but unfortunately, failed to win the title.Pakistan’s cricket is under a lot of turmoil as the disappointing performance has caused PM Nawaz to take notice of the situation.

Apart from the coach and captain, PCB has also dissolved the selection committee.

Waqar Younis Resigns as Pakistan Coach, Blames Shahid Afridi

Pakistan’s cricket is under a lot of turmoil as the disappointing performance has caused PM Nawaz to take notice of the situation. Apart from the coach and captain, PCB has also dissolved the selection committee.

Shahid Afridi on Sunday announced he would step down as Pakistan’s captain in the game’s shortest format following his team’s early exit from the World Twenty20 in which he was branded “absolutely clueless” by his manager.

The 36-year-old, nicknamed “Boom Boom” for his fierce hitting, had suffered a drop in form over the past two years and was unable to steer Pakistan through the group stages of the competition in India.

PCB Dissolves Pakistan Cricket Board Selection Committee

“Today I wish to inform my fans in Pakistan & all over the world that I am relinquishing the captaincy of the T20 Pakistani team of my own volition,” he said in a statement.

Afridi was appointed T20 captain for the second time in 2014, with his contract set to expire following the World T20 in India in 2016.

He led the team to the semi-finals of the same tournament in a previous stint as captain in 2010 but was removed a year later.

In 43 matches as captain, he led his team to 19 wins, 23 losses and one tie.

Facebook Tests Artificial Intelligence to Make Photos Enjoyable for Blind People

Facebook-for-Blind

Facebook on Monday began using artificial intelligence to help people with visual impairments enjoy photos posted at the leading social network.

Facebook introduced machine learning technology trained to recognize objects in pictures and then describe photos aloud.

“As Facebook becomes an increasingly visual experience, we hope our new automatic alternative text technology will help the blind community experience Facebook the same way others enjoy it,” said accessibility specialist Matt King.
The feature was being tested on mobile devices powered by Apple iOS software and which have screen readers set to English.

Facebook planned to expand the capability to devices with other kinds of operating systems and add more languages, according to King, who lost his vision as a US college student studying electrical engineering.

The technology works across Facebook’s family of applications and is based on a “neural network” taught to recognize things in pictures using millions of examples.

More than two billion pictures are shared daily across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, King said.

“While this technology is still nascent, tapping its current capabilities to describe photos is a huge step toward providing our visually impaired community the same benefits and enjoyment that everyone else gets from photos,” King said.

The Silicon Valley-based social network said that it was moving slowly with the feature to avoid potentially offensive or embarrassing gaffes when it comes to automatically describing what is in pictures.

Words used in descriptions included those related to transportation, outdoors settings, sports, food, and people’s appearances.

The Facebook technology made its debut less than a week after Microsoft enticed software developers with a suite of offerings that let them tap into the power of cloud computing, big data, and machine learning.

The Cortana Intelligence Suite boasted the ability to let applications see, hear, speak, understand and interpret people’s needs.

Microsoft said that a “Seeing AI” research project was underway to show how those capabilities could be woven into applications to help people who are visually impaired or blind better learn what is around them, say by scanning scenes with smartphone cameras or specially equipped eyewear.

PCB Dissolves Pakistan Cricket Board Selection Committee

Shahryar-Khan

In another attempt to restructure the face of cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board has dissolved the local selection committee and made Shahid Afridi step down as the T20 captain; the head coach Waqar Younis has also been removed due to the poor performance of the team in T20 World Cup and Asia Cup.

“Following the receipt of a report on Friday by a special committee on the team’s poor performance in the Asia Cup and the ICC World T20, the PCB chairman, after having studied the report and considered the findings and recommendations (of the committee), is pleased to announce the following decisions to address the problems in Pakistan cricket,” stated a press release issued by PCB on Monday.

After reviewing the special committee report, the recommendations were accepted by the Chairman in regards to an alteration in the selection committee currently headed by Haroon Rasheed.

PCB

Henceforth, the selection committee is disbanded with immediate effect and a new committee will soon be announced.

“Shahid Afridi was appointed T20 captain till ICC WT20 2016. With the event now concluded and as per the recommendations of the special committee, the PCB will shortly appoint a new T20 captain in place of Shahid Afridi,” it said.

Afridi Steps Down As Pakistan T20Is Captain!

“Waqar Younis has publically resigned from his position and the PCB will now initiate the process of inducting a new coach for Pakistan team. For this purpose a panel comprising Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja is being formed to assist (the board) in finding a replacement for Waqar at the earliest,” the PCB official stated.

Shahryar-Khan

Wasim Akram was also part of the same panel that chose Waqar Younis as the head Coach of the Pakistani Cricket Team back in 2014.

Shaharyar Khan PCB Chairman stated that since Wasim and Rameez Raja will be commentators for the upcoming IPL (Indian Premier League), they will be interacting with different international coaches to consider for the Pakistani cricket team, reports Dawn News.

Initially, Aaqib Javed was being considered, however, foreign coaches are now being considered.

Physical fitness of the players has been highlighted as one of the major causes of poor performance by the Pakistani Cricket team in World T20 and Asia Cup 2016.

“The PCB will henceforth make the meeting of fitness standards a part of the contracts and fines will be imposed on players not achieving the desired standards. The board also decided to appoint a psychologist and a dietician for the players”, a PCB official said.

It is because of this reason almost all the organza wraps come with a belt. The addition of belt in the wrap not only maintains the structure but also defines your waist adding femininity in the look.

Brandsynario Interviews Contemporary Painter A.S Rind

A.S Rind makes poetry out of canvas through vivid colours and fascinating images. Growing up in Rahimyar Khan [South Punjab, Pakistan] he studied Fine Art at the Central Institute of Art and Craft (Arts Council), Karachi, Pakistan. His early years were spent in his native town after which he moved to Karachi where he currently resides. Rind’s recent and on-going work is striking, and our team at brandsynario was eager to have him answer a few questions about his work so far.

Brandsynario : Where & how did you grow up?

Rind: I was born and raised in Rahimyar Khan where there was no art scene. My uncle was a poet and I started getting inspiration from him and took interest in interplay of words and drawings. But that was too trivial.

Brandsynario: Were you always interested in art?

Rind: During my schooling years, I was very fond of drawing, painting and even calligraphy. Unfortunately there was no drawing teacher in our school; so we did not enjoy any such activity. Even at high school level, art education was not available in my native town. I believe the environment does contribute positively towards growing or raising great creative kids. I was not satisfied with any subject other than art. I felt myself fortunate enough to find people who were there to guide, encourage and nurture my talent. They helped pave the way to follow the right path and I opted for a proper education and training in art.To pursue this, I came to Karachi in 1981 and enrolled in the Central Institute of Art and Craft [CIAC], Karachi.

Brandsynario: What makes your work unique and truly your own?

Rind: I love to paint. I cannot do anything else. I express myself in bold colors. Line and form just echo with me, it feels good and right. I am a graphic designer too, but painting allows me to release my artistic energy , to be brave and bold; it is just fun and gives me a sense of freedom. It is not under compulsion that an artist projects viewpoints of others, artists think and love the rush that moves through him when he is moving the brush and things begin to happen.

Brandsynario: What is your preferred medium of work and why?

Rind: Since 1986 I have worked with different mediums ; in realism since 1990, in impressionism since 1992 and then did some works in cubism, which was exhibited in Alliance Franchise, Karachi, Pakistan. I also painted using different techniques and mediums since 1998.I also started calligraphic paintings with my self developed typography since 2002. I then moved on to figurative work, in which I included my homeland heritage.

I paint in acrylic and ink in wash technique with local motifs. My color palette contains the rich colors of Rajasthan, Thar and Cholistan. I use Urdu alphabets as motifs as well as Urdu poetry as a script in my paintings. I am currently painting in oil color on the subject of inequality and oppression in our society that has been exhibited locally as well as internationally.

Brandsynario: We normally see parrots, roses, fish, woman and a verse as elements used in your paintings? What is their significance?

Rind: Various ideas come to my mind. As an artist, I am not bound to express or agree with somebody else’s ideas and thoughts. I think and paint whatever I want to. It happens on canvas. Birds, animals and countless objects have different meanings, interpretation and significance in different cultures and religions even different ethnic identities of the same religion. Similarly, different colors, hues, shades stand for different connotations in different cultures, religions and regions.

Brandsynario: What’s your creative process like, from an idea to a finished piece?

Rind: First, I get an idea or it comes to mind without preplanning. I think of the composition. Then I decide what kind of painting it will be. I do a lot of limited palette. I like contrast against the subject. I do many dark backgrounds. When the painting is semi-finished, I keep it in my studio at a prominent place to look at time and again while leaving and entering until I think it is finished. Usually, there are several adjustments. Then it is ready to sign and have framed.

[youtube id=”8T-xMEOZI-U”]

Brandsynario: What do you think makes for a successful painting?

Rind: when I really enjoy the process I think it makes for a successful painting.

Brandsynario: What/Who are some of the inspirations for you and your art? Did this help guide you to where you are today?

Rind: As a child I was always coloring, drawing and doing calligraphy. I have been inspired by number of national and international artists, poets and writers. I love action painting and expressive work that builds texture as well as figurative and narrative work. I incorporate these forms into my style as I disconnect the painted image from the common experience and perception of the viewer to enable the creation of new figurations and experiences.

Brandsynario: What are your specialty skills in the field(s) of work you are in? Why do you enjoy them the most?

Rind: As a painter I can paint in every medium and I like mixing mediums when creating my work. I like to paint collages that explore longstanding lies, the emotional response, new forms of slavery, the tortured soul and the language of corrupted thought.

Brandsynario: What do you hope to achieve through your art work?

Rind: I want to leave a legacy through my work as someone who provoked conversation and thought.

Brandsynario: Any advice to other aspiring/young artists/creative students?

Rind:  Love your work. If you don’t love it, you won’t work hard at it, and you would not make much of it. If possible, find what you love to do more than anything, and do it as much as you can. It may not always feel like work, but it is work.

Waqar Younis Resigns as Pakistan Coach, Blames Shahid Afridi

waqar-younis

Pakistan’s head coach Waqar Younis resigned on Monday weeks after his team’s humiliating exit from the World Twenty20 tournament at the group stage.

The 2009 champions had been widely blasted by fans following a lacklustre performance with just one victory against lowly ranked Bangladesh and big losses to India, New Zealand and Australia.

“I am resigning from my post today with a heavy heart,” he told reporters in Lahore.

Referring to a report written in the aftermath of the World Twenty20 in India that was widely leaked in the Pakistani press, he added: “I want my recommendations to be implemented. They were not acted on when I first made them in 2015.”

The 44-year-old took on the job for the second time in 2014, having previously held the post in 2010-11.

He formed a formidable partnership with Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq to lift the team to number two in the Test rankings late last year, a spot they had previously attained in 2006.

The fast-bowling legend failed, however, to reverse Pakistan’s slide in the game’s shorter formats, with the team ranked a lowly seventh and eighth place in Twenty20 and one-day internationals respectively.

In his leaked report, Younis criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to not give him a say in the selection process and blasted the captaincy of Shahid Afridi.

“We lost to New Zealand, (the) Asia Cup and the World T20 due to poor captaincy. Over several occasions, I had made it clear that Shahid Afridi was not performing with the bat, ball or as a captain but I was not listened to,” he said.

He added: “I had made a lot of recommendations after the 2015 World Cup, including sending some boys back to first-class cricket for at least a season so they can regain their hunger for the game and rethink their approach and attitude to play for Pakistan, but no recommendation was implemented.”

Pakistan’s early exit from the World T20, which the West Indies won on Sunday, prompted a wave of criticism in the cricket-mad country, with widespread calls to revamp the country’s domestic structure.

Fast-bowling legend Wasim Akram said the team had been exposed in all departments and were miles behind their competitors.

“What we have here is the best lot that was available in Pakistan. They are the cream. The problem is that most of them aren’t world class and for that I blame our system, which is extremely faulty,” he wrote in The News.

On Sunday Shahid Afridi stepped down as Pakistan’s T20 captain but vowed to continue as a player.

Like Younis, 36-year-old Afridi was appointed to his post in 2014, but suffered a slump in both his batting and bowling.
