The restaurant has widely adopted the PUBG theme, from placing first-aid kits on the tables to game characters serving the food and more.

The eatery also makes a great gaming zone as they have announced a PUBG tournament for solo players and duos as well with handsome prize money of 2500 Indian rupee, according to its Instagram post.

The administration has worked down every last detail to perfection so that visitors can feel the live experience of what it feels like living in the PUBG world.

CIE Students Distressed Over Exams Scheduled on Eid Days

Eid in Pakistan is almost here, and we couldn’t be happier! However, the sentiments of CIE students are not exactly synonymous to ours.

While we will be rushing to beauty parlors and shopping malls for last minute Eid preparations, around 55,000 O and A Level students will be preparing to spend their Eid answering academic questions, as CIE has scheduled O and A Level papers on the days of Eid ul fitr, 2019.

To the students’ dismay, Sindh’s Director-General of Privately Managed Institutions and Inspection, Dr Mansoob Hussain Siddiqui has issued the following statement:

CIE exams are conducted across the world on the same day, therefore once a date has been set, there is no room for change.

Many students have taken over social media to express their grief over the inconsiderate CIE schedule.

Some have resorted to memes to cope with the stress.

While others are raging over how insensitive it is of CIEs to not take their religious holidays into consideration.

Not only will they miss out on the mehendi trips and sheer khurma tastings, but they will also not be able to attend their Eid namaz.

Brandsynario spoke to some CIE students and this is what they had to say.

“I am furious that my sociology exam is getting in the way of my Eid festivities. And it deeply saddens me that the British Council has such little regard for our culture and religion.” –Iman

“I’m gonna treat my second day of Eid as first because British Council took my first day.” –Kinza

Not just students, but their parents are also disturbed by the situation, as the household festivities during this time cannot be enjoyed to the fullest.

Here’s what Former HR Consultant at a school (who is also a parent) had to say.

“Most A Level institutes commence their early bird admissions before the students even give their final O level exam, trapping parents and students financially, psychologically and emotionally. Can you imagine the pain parents go through? I am sure with admissions taking place after the O level results, the students would study hard to get best results. With that stress already looming over their heads, they now have to sit in exams on Eid days, unable to enjoy even the most basic holiday that they deserve,” 

On the other hand, some are taking it in their stride and praying for the best.

We even got a statement from a teacher about what she thinks about the situation.

Yes, I think it is certainly a valid suggestion that there should be no examinations over the 3 Eid celebrations. This will cover all the time difference around the world.

There is good news for Pakistani students who are looking for international scholarships!

The prestigious international scholarships, the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships program, has finally been announced by Sri Lanka this month.

These fully-funded scholarships are available for the students from the Commonwealth countries who are currently in search master’s degree program in Sri Lanka.

China Scholarships for Pakistani Students: 20,000 Yearly Scholarships Announced

The program will surely offer Pakistani students an outstanding opportunity to receive a quality education from internationally recognized Sri Lankan institutions.

Eligibility Criteria for Applying

Students from Commonwealth countries can apply for the program, except for Sri Lanka.

The candidates can apply for a research master’s degree program in any field offered by the participating universities.

The candidate must be graduates in biological, medical, dental, veterinary, agricultural or chemical sciences for applying at the University of Colombo and hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least three years of managerial experience for taking admission at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Priority Fields Of Study

Students who are looking for Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships program can apply in Molecular Life Science, and masters in Cellular and Molecular Immunology degree programs at the IBMBB, University of Colombo and also, a Master of Business Administration degree course at PIM, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka.

Soon after joining a master’s program, they can apply for the fund through the application portal.

Documents Required 

The documents that are required are:

  • Academic transcripts
  • Two references-preferably academics
  • Scans of passport or national ID card
  • Proof of language ability should be submitted in documents

Admission Requirements 

The aspirants are bound to demonstrate to show their English language ability through a TOEFL or IELTS test.

PTA Blocked Access to Mainstream Websites by Mistake: Social Media Reacts

Over the weekend multiple Pakistanis took it to social media to complain about ‘denied access’ to various popular websites.

It was noticed that Telenor, Ufone, and Jazz users were unable to access domains including Buzzfeed, Bloomberg, Alibaba, and GSMArena on their mobile phones.

Nayatel subscribers in Islamabad faced the same.

When contacted, a customer service representative at Nayatel, a private ISP, told Dawn the reason behind it.

 “These websites have been blocked following directions from the PTA.”

A Nayatel user on Twitter mentioned that the Bloomberg app was working just fine, but the website could not be accessed.

This confirms that the issue did not lie with the websites, but with the service providers.

When reached out by Dawn, most of the mobile network industry representatives seemed oblivious to the situation. Hence, they could not respond with any useful answers when asked why their subscribers had not been able to access some of these websites for the past few days.

Upon further investigation into the matter it was reported by Dawn that, on 26th May, PTA had mistakenly directed ISPs to block access for around a week to the following websites for hosting unethical content:

  • bloomberg.com, a business and markets news website
  • buzzfeed.com, a popular media, and entertainment website
  • gsmarena.com, an informative website on cellphones prices, specs, and reviews
  • alibaba.com, an online shopping platform

On Saturday night, June 1st, PTA denied issuing any such instructions. However, it was confirmed by Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) technical support that PTA had instructed to block access to these websites.

“The directions actually come from the Ministry of Interior, which also identifies objectionable or controversial content posted on a particular website and tells the PTA to block it,”

Later that night, Dawn reached out to the PTA to find out the reason behind the fiasco. Subsequently, PTA asked ISPs to unblock the aforementioned websites.

PTA also admitted that they had included the websites on the list of websites hosting objectionable content by mistake.

Many users took PTA’s mistaken action seriously and expressed their disdain on Twitter.

Neiki ki Recipe – A Supreme Way of Appreciating & Encouraging Kindness

The holy month of Ramzan is truly unique. There is love, philanthropy and a motivation to be more generous all around.
Those who are selfless and put others before themselves will earn higher rewards for every Neiki they carry out.
This Ramzan, Soya Supreme has also been associated with a selfless act of good. The brand joined hands with Parween Saeed, an inspiring activist who is also the heart and soul behind the NGO ‘Khana Ghar’ based in Karachi.
There are so many residents of the sprawling city of Karachi who don’t have the means to pay for their meals. Khana Ghar stepped in to take the initiative feeding anyone for just about Rs.3!
Through their Ramzan campaign Neiki ki Recipe, Soya Supreme paid tribute to the unsung hero, Parween, and her initiative of Neiki highlighting her efforts and spirit.

The story is best told when narrated by Parween as she narrates what compelled her to take on this noble act.

I started Khana Ghar when I found out that a mother had killed her own two children because they hadn’t eaten for two days.

When I asked her what had compelled her to take the lives of her own offspring, she said, “you’d know if your children were dying of hunger.

This means hunger can even make a mother kill her children. The pain of seeing her children starving must have been so severe that it is difficult to comprehend.
That was the deciding moment for Parween, and she hence began her NGO named Khana Ghar.

Khana Ghar is a place that serves food to anyone for a negligible amount. That’s how Parween spreads her light of goodness, and that is her ‘Neiki ki Recipe’.

There is no doubt that kindness requires courage, and God takes care of the rest, says Parween.

Not only did Soya Supreme start a campaign highlighting the 3 Rupee Lady’s efforts and spirit, but they also became a significant helping hand for Khana Ghar.

Soya Supreme helped in forming a Neiki Team including not only volunteers but also took bloggers to visit Khana Ghar to help Parveen by spreading the word about her act of kindness on their respective platforms.


The Neiki Team visited Khana Ghar on May 29th and posted about it on all their social media platforms. They also distributed clothes, shoes, and other items amongst the less privileged.

 

Neiki Recipe – A Supreme Way of Appreciating and Encouraging Kindness

The campaign Neiki ki Recipe sheds light on the widespread issue of hunger and poverty in Pakistan. It is a great way to help and appreciate individuals like Parween who, despite not having a lot themselves, extend their kindness towards others.

Moreover, it is also a commendable campaign as it will encourage others to be selfless when it comes to neiki, too.

We hope Soya Supreme’s message spreads far and wide as intended, and that we see the difference they aim to make in the society by encouraging people to make their Neiki ki Recipe as Parween did.

Apply sunscreen before leaving the house and avoid going out on long journeys from 12-4pm, stay indoors.

Umair is the first Pakistani to grab an Emmy Award in post produce graphics category and is ecstatic over his achievement.

Here’s what he told Brandsynario about his massive feat:

“I am honored to become the first Pakistani graphic artist to have won an Emmy award in post produce graphics category(along with my colleagues).

I feel that this achievement as a Pakistani will put our talent on the map in the graphics industry. We have such great talent in our country but lack the means to display it. I strongly believe that our talent needs to be recognized and celebrated internationally.”

President of Pakistan Hosts an Iftar for Orphans, Attended by Chairman Khubaib Foundation & CEO of Tecno Mobile

Arif Alvi, the President of Pakistan invited and met with 270 children from Khubaib Foundation. The dinner was attended by government officials, Nadeem Ahmad the chairman of Khubaib Foundation, Creek Ma, the CEO of Tecno Mobile along with Tecno personnel and other business leaders.

At the dinner, the President spoke about his pleasure of seeing the children performing well and Khubaib Foundation’s commitment to providing a safe and nourishing environment for the orphans.

He further acknowledged the work of the Tecno Mobile’s team and thanked them for their support to the children and their efforts in improving the quality of education in Pakistan. In addition to this, Arif Alvi called upon other businesses to take heed from this campaign and play their part in helping the orphans of the country.

The children from the orphanage were very excited about visiting the ‘Aiwan-e-Sadr’ and brought handmade greeting cards to show their delight. As an appreciation of their hard work and academic performance, they were given gifts by the President.

The President also appreciated the ‘Tecno Blue Chalk’ campaign which is providing support and quality education to the children housed in the Khubaib Foundation orphanages.

Other officials in attendance spoke about the government aim of focusing on education and so were appreciative of the campaign and highlighted the need to harbor more cross border partnerships like this to help uplift the children from marginalized communities.

The anticipated dinner was quite a success and the Tecno team was very humbled by the President of Pakistan’s warm welcome. Tecno Mobile reiterated their pledge to provide quality education to the orphans so that the children have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Speaking to the media Creek Ma the CEO of Tecno Mobile expressed his delight in meeting the President of Pakistan. He also spoke of his company’s commitment to continue their support to Pakistan in the field of education, disaster relief, and health management, along with their desire to create more jobs for the locals and boost the Pakistani economy.

The meeting ended on a quite hopeful note with the prospect of future joint ventures by the two organizations.

Khubaib Foundation is a social welfare organization that houses and educates orphans. Their campuses are located in Haripur, Muzaffarabad, Skardu, Sargodha, Gilgit, and Rawalpindi.

Tecno Mobile is a premium Chinese smartphone brand which operates as a top tier market competitor across the world and is one of the official partners for the Manchester City football team. The company launched its phones in Pakistan in 2016 and has since risen as one of the leading mobile brands in the country.

The foundation’s collaboration with Tecno Mobile comes through an MOU the two recently signed which focuses on improving the quality of education available to orphans.

More than 1000 students participated in the campaign in the hill city of Haripur, where they carried out cultural performances, sang songs and showcased their Tækwondo skills. The Tecno Blue Chalk campaign involves a monetary donation to Khubaib Foundation along with a year-long pledge of future donations through the sales of each of their handset. The campaign went viral online over the week and was covered by a lot of media and attended by educationists, celebrities and local officials.

SriLankan Airlines to Resume Flight Operations in Pakistan from June 2019

Sri Lanka’s National Carrier will resume its operations in Pakistan from June 1st, 2019 according to the latest reports.

The airline will operate with five weekly afternoon flights on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with arrivals in Karachi at 15:10 hours and departures from Karachi at 16:10 hours.

Owing to the closure of Pakistani airspace by the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan after Pak-India military tension in February 2019, some of the international flights into Pakistan had been suspended.

British Airways to Resume Flight Operations in Pakistan From June

Some restrictions with regards to the Pakistani airspace still remain. However, all restrictions are expected to be lifted to re-commence flights to Lahore, as the airline used to, earlier.

SriLankan Airlines is a member of the Oneworld global airline partnership. It operates a route network of 111 cities in 48 countries from its hub in Colombo and also connects to over 1,000 cities in 160 countries through its Oneworld partner airlines.

Gold Smuggling: India is Costing Pakistan Trillions of Rupees!

Authorities have caught a network involved in smuggling gold to India. The culprits reportedly exploited a facility that allowed jewelers export or imports the metal.

Furthermore, the authorities have shared that a large number of importers and exporters used fake addresses to register.

Moreover, it was also found that these smugglers were smuggling gold ornaments and exploiting artificial jewelry in India.

Shah Rukh Khan Calls for a Special Eid Gift from Pakistan!

Reportedly, this has cost Pakistan trillions of rupees as the import of gold from the neighbor is very costly.

Regional Tax Officer (RTO-II) Karachi confirmed the report. After receiving credible information, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) leaped into action and caught the network that costed the country major loss.

The State Bank of Pakistan, on the other hand, has asked the finance ministry to formalize a payment system to only allow transactions through the interbank market to prevent illegal trade and shady payments.

The consequences of this act is yet to be announced.

Apple has been known to offer privacy to their customers for a long time now, without willing to compromise on it, remember the famous FBI case of 2016?

However, a recent discovery by The Washington Post (TWP) has revealed that third-party apps are abusing ‘Background App Refresh’ feature.

This feature is being used to send personal and sensitive information to tracking companies for analytics purposes.

Though it is common for applications to do so, these apps have been retrieving and sending the information on a very frequent and alarming basis.

Apple Issues Mass Recall for Devices After Potential Threat

The Background App Feature allows applications to update content while they are running on the back as users do not exit the application but keep them tunning on a standby mode.

This feature can be disabled however if it is the applications will not be able to fetch for new content while running in the back.

Reportedly, TWP tried the Disconnect Privacy Pro application to keep a check on the communications between apps and their backend servers. The application allowed TWP to take a look at the kind of data which was being sent and the frequency the information was being sent at.

Given below are the observations:

On a recent Monday night, a dozen marketing companies, research firms and other personal data guzzlers got reports from my iPhone. At 11:43 p.m., a company called Amplitude learned my phone number, email and exact location. At 3:58 a.m., another called Appboy got a digital fingerprint of my phone. At 6:25 a.m., a tracker called Demdex received a way to identify my phone and sent back a list of other trackers to pair up with.

Applications that are Leaking Data

Some of the major applications caught leaking iPhone user data include:

  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Nike
  • Spotify
  • Yelp
  • The Weather Channel
  • and The Washington Post’s own app was involved!

Increased Taxes on Tobacco & Fizzy Drinks Approved by PM Imran Khan

Health Tax on Cigarettes

Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination (NHSRC) has renewed commitment to impose health tax on fizzy drinks and tobacco.

However, it is to be noted that such considerations have been turned down by the parliament in the past, according to a press release by TheNetwork for Consumer Protection for World No Tobacco Day.

Reportedly, this year’s theme ‘tobacco and lung health’ has highlighted the concern of citizen’s health amongst the government. Thus, a Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) was implemented along with NCDs health tax as a step in the right direction.

No other person in Pakistan other than the health minister, Dr Zafar Mirza, a WHO man who is well groomed in consumer rights, know that FCTC and WHO’s (World Health Organization) MPOWER strategy has to be implemented not in piecemeal but in toto.

World No Tobacco Day is a call for countries like Pakistan where there should be a response to a tobacco epidemic. Reportedly, a meeting was chaired on Tuesday by PM Khan where it was decided that all provinces take control of the use of tobacco.

The Prime Minister approved the imposing of health tax of Rs. 10 per cigarette pack. The tax money will then be used by the health ministry on welfare projects. It was also decided that there will be a 1% increase in the forthcoming budget.

The prime minister has decided to impose this health tax on cigarettes and beverages in the upcoming budget -an official reported.

Earlier in February, the  National Health Services and Coordination Division presented a draft of the Health Levy Bill 2019, proposing the imposition of a health levy on cigarettes and sugary beverages. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had gone against it and opposed the decision.

Whereas the finance division agreed to the proposed tax improvement on cigarettes. According to Express Tribune, the PM had taken the lead of this initiative and had stated that no one will be allowed to play with people’s health.

The health minister is expected to send an approved plan to the finance ministry within the next 2 days to make it an official part of the Financial Bill 2019.

A number of significant cabinet members accompanied Khan on the spiritual journey- CM Punjab Usman Buzdar, CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Mehmood Khan, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Youth Affairs in KPK Atif Khan, Special Assistant to PM Imran on Special Affairs Naeem-ul-Haque, Senator Faisal Javed Khan and other politicians.

They will offer their Jumma prayers in Masjid-ul-Haram, and PM Imran will also attend the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Makkah today.

The PM arrived in Medina a day earlier for a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia. He also had the privilege to pay his respects at Roza-e-Rasool (Peace Be Upon Him) while offering his Nawafil prayers in Medina.
