The hottest news in the automotive industry is that Pak Suzuki is currently planning to launch the 2019 Suzuki Alto as a replacement of the 800cc Mehran, which the brand is now discontinuing.

Pakistan’s largest automotive manufacturer, Suzuki had previously announced the end of its Mehran variant. The VX and VXR will no longer be available to consumers. The last batch of Suzuki Mehran will be delivered by March 2019.

According to sources, the 8th gen Alto will be the entry-level hatchback which is likely to launch the vehicle in December 2018 or Q1 of next Year.

As per sources, the Suzuki Alto will be equipped with an R06A engine which is a 660cc 3-cylinder unit and is offered with the likes of Suzuki MR Wagon and Hustler.

However, an 800cc or 1000cc engine might be deployed as well. There’s no confirmation yet. The vehicle will be offered with manual as well as automatic transmission distributed across 3 trim levels.

Price

The expected price-tag of the 2019 Alto is PKR 10 lacs. However, it can change as the rupee has fallen against the dollar and has become quite unstable causing automotive manufacturers to change their price.

Sometime back, pictures of then Minister for Planning & Development Mr Ahsan Iqbal inspecting an 8th gen Alto surfaced on social media. As per sources, the company has already manufactured 50 units.

Earlier this week, a Twitter user identified a glitch on Instagram where he could see a number of stories of private account holders that he did not follow on the app.

In his tweet, he alerted both, Instagram and the parent company, Facebook, while also bringing Techcrunch into the loop.

His post created a major panic as it was a significant breach of privacy.

Instagram was quick to take notice of the issue and revealed a statement, revealing the consequence of a bug.

The statement issued by Instagram is as follows:

“We’re aware of an issue that caused a small number of people’s Instagram Stories trays to show accounts they don’t follow. If your account is private, your Stories were not seen by people who don’t follow you. This was caused by a bug that we have resolved.”

This statement might underplay the intensity of the situation. However, with approximately 500 million people using Instagram Stories, even a small error could have created a massive impact.

It’s indeed a wakeup call for all those who considered Instagram to be a safe space compared to Facebook.

It’s also a wakeup call for Facebook to realize that they have started affecting Instagram as well in terms of privacy issues.

Mehwish Hayat Blasts Amitabh Bachchan for His Anti-Pakistan Sentiments

This week, the news of Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan denying the role of a Pakistani protagonist in an upcoming movie took social media by storm.

Apparently, the Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty’s was making his directorial debut that promoted Indo-Pak peace.

Sources reveal that the cross-border tension between India and Pakistan compelled senior Bachchan to turn down the role.

Apparently, the B-town bigwig was very excited to be a part of the project but didn’t want to be labeled as ‘anti-national’. Consequently, he announced his disassociation from the film.

While various Pakistani stars remained mum on this news, Mehwish Hayat has given her two cents on the matter.

Taking to Twitter, the Load Wedding starlet expressed her disapproval on Amitabh Bachchan’s anti-Pakistan sentiments.

If true, this is very disappointing. Movies have the power to build bridges especially when tensions are high. I guess that in the end nationalism trumps everything

Blasting Bollywood, she added:

I hope that we can also take heed before we gush about all things Bollywood in the future.

It is no secret that Indian stars that have pro-Pakistani views often face wrath in their homeland. Seems like, Amitabh Bachchan wanted to stay away from getting into a mess rather than promote peace as artists should.

Honda Civic 2019 Facelift: Price in Pakistan, Specifications & Features

Update: Honda Atlas had hinted the arrival of a 10th generation Honda Civic Facelift. According to sources, the brand is gearing up to launch the variant on 9th April at  Silver Bell, Royal Palm Lahore.

The new Civic is reportedly going to be available in 3 trims, a standard 1.8-liter i-VTEC (with cruise control), 1.8-liter Oriel (with LED headlamps and fog lights), and 1.5-liter Turbo variant.

For the first time in a long time, the 10th gen Honda Civic has received a major upgrade. The vehicle has received its first facelift since its debut which was in late 2015.

The major change which the Honda Civic 2019 has received is its design, from the first look, you can tell it has become more sporty and has the Honda Sensing technology for all trims.

Though it is not too different from its predecessors, the Civic has minor details which set it apart, such as the black-painted upper front fascia wing or the lower fascia wing’s layout.

Coming to under the hood, the 2019 Civic Sport has the base 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, whereas drivers have a choice to select between a 6-speed manual or CVT drive.

Official prices are yet to be disclosed, however, our expectations are at  PKR 3.5 million to PKR 4.0 million.

De De Pyar De: Atif Aslam’s Track Deleted from Ajay Devgan’s Movie

We all know how Bollywood movies pulled down soundtracks by Pakistani singers post-Pulwama attack in February.

T-series was quick to remove songs by Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan from its YouTube channel.

However, on strong demand, the brand uploaded the deleted tracks again after a month.

Now the buzz is that Ajay Devgan’s upcoming Bollywood flick ‘De De Pyar De’ included a romantic song by Atif Aslam.

Back in January, the music composer of the movie, Amaal Mallik revealed that he has collaborated with the Pakistani singer and was super excited over the release of the track.

Reportedly, the name of the tune is Tu Mila and has already been recorded in Atif’s voice

However, the moviemakers have now decided to delete Atif’s voice from the film’s soundtrack in the light of Indo-Pak tensions.

Amaal Malik confirmed it himself on Twitter and revealed that Aslam is no longer part of the music album.

However, no Indian singer has yet been locked for replacing Atif.

Fans of Atif are urging the music producer to at least release the track later in Atif Aslam’s voice if it will not be a part of the movie.

Earlier, Salman Khan also shelved a track crooned by Atif Aslam from his movie ‘Notebook’.

The fast-food giant, Burger King recently pulled down a racist ad rolled out by its New Zealand Franchise after it sparked an intensive round of criticism for the brand.

The ad showed Westerners attempting to eat its ‘Vietnamese Sweet Chilli Tendercrisp Burger’ through the aid of oversized chopsticks.

Burger King Pranks McDonald’s with an Epic Offer for Fans!

Naturally, the Asian community around the globe found the ad offensive since the chopsticks signify a significant cultural value for them.

The Vietnamese now want Burger King to leave the country.

Post backlash, Burger King has ordered the franchise to take the ad down from all social media platforms. They apologized saying the ad was not representative of their true values of inclusion and diversity.

Pakistan’s Kekra Well for Oil & Gas Reserves Amongst World’s Top 3 Prospective Wells

UPDATE: According to ARY News, major discovery has been achieved in the Eni led drilling for exploration of oil and gas reserves in Pakistani waters.

Offshore drilling of Kekra-I project has made important progress and the work has entered in its final phase.

The drilling work has reached 5000 meters depth and nearing an end to its target of 5800 meters, sources said.

Independent energy research and business intelligence company, Rystad Energy, has reported that Eni’s Kekra well (oil and gas reserves) is among three highly prospective wells in the world.

The reserves are in Pakistani waters and the pre-drill prospective resource is estimated at 1.5 billion barrels of oil or equivalent states Rystad Energy.

The other two reserves are Shell-operated Peroba off Brazil and Total-operated Etzil off Mexico.

If these wells prove successful, 2019’s interim discovered resources will be the largest since the downturn in 2014 – an expert said

Furthermore, the report states that the energy sector shows no signs of slowing down as there are 35 “high impact” exploration wells expected both offshore and onshores which are to be drilled this year.

Moreover, the global discoveries of conventional resources have reached approximately 3.2 billion barrels of oil or equivalent in the first quarter. February recorded 2.2bbo of discovered resources.

Reportedly, ExxonMobile was the most successful overall with 3 significant offshore discoveries which account for 38 percent of total discovered volumes.

The Dairy Farm Association in Karachi on Wednesday has raised the price of milk by Rs26. Now  Dairy farmers across the city will now be selling milk to middlemen at the price of Rs108 per litre.

Dairy Farm Association Chief Shakir Umar revealed that price hike is a result of failed talks between the dairy farmers and Commissioner Karachi.

“We used to sell milk at Rs85 per litre to middlemen, however, we have now started implementing the price increase”

The milk prices have raised right after the increase in transport fares owing to costlier fuel, higher cow fodder costs, and other expenses.

On the contrary, the government has fixed the price of milk at Rs 94 per liter.

Tree plantation is significant not only as a visual attraction but also for the value it adds to our environment and atmosphere.

Trees filter harmful pollutants from the atmosphere, thereby providing us fresh and clean air to breath. They release oxygen in the day and inhale carbon dioxide as well as absorb various harmful gases including sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide.

The growing amount of air pollution that is a direct result of smoke emitted by vehicles and factories can be controlled only if we plant more trees.

However, this is not the only reason why tree plantation is important!

Some of the top advantages of growing trees include:

  • Providing fruits and leaves that serve as food for birds, animals as well as human beings.
  • Maintaining biodiversity.
  • Providing wood, rubber and other raw materials that are used for manufacturing various goods such as furniture, doors, windows, utensils, stationary items and decorative items.
  • Conservation of water
  • Habitat for birds and animals.
  • Climate Control
  • Preservation of soil

Despite all the ecological benefits, we are still cutting them!

As Pakistanis, it is our responsibility to make our country cleaner and greener. For this, we must take an oath and plant at least one tree so that the future generation can live in a better environment.

By just planting a minimum of one tree, we all can play a vital role in creating a healthier environment.

So, what are you waiting for, it’s time to act and become the part of the Government of Pakistan’s Tree Plantation and follow the example set by Muhammad Ramzan Chhipa.

Applicants who are accepted with an Australia Awards Scholarship must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia declaring that they will comply with the conditions of the Australia Awards Scholarship.

English Language Requirements

To be eligible for an Australia Awards Scholarship, certain standards in English language proficiency must be met with. At a minimum, you must have:

  • IELTS (Academic) overall score (at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0) or
  • TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) score (at least 79, with a minimum of 21 in all sub-tests)or
  • PTE Academic overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50.

Griffith University Scholarships for Pakistani Students Announced

HEC Declares 70 Scholarship Awardees as Defaulters

Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships 2019

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has declared 70 of its Ph.D. scholarship awardees as defaulters.

These defaulters will now be required to pay their program fee to HEC in full as well as pay a 25% penalty.

According to the rules of HEC, each scholarship recipient is required to return immediately upon completion of their program from abroad and serve Pakistan for a period of 5 years minimum. Failure to do so gets them marked as defaulters.

A group of 13 female and 57 males in total were documented as defaulters who decided to stay back after completion of their studies. They were rewarded 100% scholarship for their programs titled  ‘Overseas Scholarships for MS/MPhil Leading to Ph.D. in selected fields, Phase-II’.

Their names and photographs have been publicly posted on the official HEC website.
The notice issued to the defaulters mentions that they are now supposed to pay the fee along with the penalty since they failed to return and serve Pakistan for 5 years.

Among the 70 defaulters, one is Dr Safwan Akram, son of Former Vice Chancellor University of Sargodha, currently jailed, Dr Akram Chaudhary.
