Traffic Police Files Petition Against Aamir Liaquat’s Abusive Behaviour

Aamir Liaquat makes headlines every now and then either for his performance at his shows or for the scandals in his personal life. The last scandal was right after his infamous Naagin dance when his alleged third wife had come to the forefront.

The recent scandal of Aamir Liaquat

In recent news, he was observed getting into a heated argument with a traffic policeman. Allegedly, Aamir Liaquat had seen the official committing bribery which led to the outburst. As a Pakistani, who has to go out into the public sphere on daily basis, this is a common and factual occurrence; seeing bribery happening in broad daylight.

In this instance, MNA Aamir Liaquat saw the traffic police official committing bribery, exploiting the newly imposed SOPs during the lockdown. He got out of the car and into a verbal fight with the official. The official has filed a petition against Aamir Liaquat for verbal abuse.

Numerous channels and publications have covered MNA’s side of the story but not many have covered the traffic police’s statement.

Mixed views of Pakistanis

Pakistanis on Twitter have differing views. Some netizens are actually appreciating Jeeeway Pakistan’s host getting angry at the traffic police. What these people are saying is that it is high time traffic police were also held accountable; for all the times they have violated the rules themselves.

At the same time, there were people who were not that happy with the MNA. To be specific, they found his behavior disrespectful. Some even said that scandalous celebrities in Pakistan tend to be overtly religious, conservative, and anti-liberals.

Now, that is some shade thrown at Sadaf Kanwal and Shahroz Sabzwari alongside Aamir Liaquat.

Did bribery actually happen in this specific instance? We do not know that. It could have, or it could not have. What we know is that Aamir Liaquat believes the bribery took place. Should bribe-takers be held accountable? Yes. But was this the only way to do that? Not really.

If he believed that bribery happened, then he should have filed a case against the officer. Cursing death upon anyone is not the grown-up way to deal with problems.

For now, the traffic policeman has filed a petition against the MNA. Hopefully, Bas Karo Na actor will take this as a much-needed lesson and in the future, deal with situations accordingly.

[Update 3rd August 2021]: Sadaf Kanwal was in hot waters for quite a few days after her recent statement belittling ‘liberals’ and ‘feminists’. Right around this time, Shahroz also shared an Instagram story as a support for Sadaf. The statement that the story made was that a liberal has attention-seeking, anti-Islamic thoughts coursing through his/her mind.

Offended Pakistanis started delving into their past to bring about evidence that contradicts what the couple is preaching.

Shahroz answers Sadaf’s critics

To answer that, Shahroz appeared in an interview. He said that sharing Sadaf’s past videos is not going to affect them because it is all in the past and that Islam allows room for forgiveness.

This pro-Islamic narrative seems forced but it also makes sense if you look at comedian Shehzad Ghias’ statements on the matter.

“The truth is that the easiest way to get viral is to pretend to be Islamic, pretend to love Pakistan, and hate on liberals/feminists.”

[July 30th, 2021]: Sadaf Kanwal and Shahroz Sabzwari appeared for a special Eid interview with ARY News on Eid-ul-Azha. The two appeared on ‘Hamare Mehman’ after many requests from the audience and gave many talking points to the netizen after!

The Chemistry Between The Two

As soon as the two came in front of the camera, the chemistry is very obvious and rather tangible. The interviewer asks Shahroz Sabzwari, “did you give her Eidi?” to which he said “no”. However, Sadaf Kanwal immediately picked up on that and said “I get it every day!” being super shy.

When asked about marriage rules is when the interview becomes borderline controversial. Sadaf Kanwal agreed that she does indeed have certain marriage rules. According to her, her rules are very ‘simple’. She believes that a husband should be considered a husband. That is to say, he should have a higher status.

Her reasoning behind this is that the husband earns and feeds the family and takes care of them. She also acknowledged that she too works and earns. However, in her eyes, she can never compete with Shahroz Sabzwari’s status as a husband.

Punjab Implements Single National Curriculum Across Schools

It was the dream of our current Prime Minister to see an indiscriminate education level across the country. To ensure that, there needed to be a single national curriculum across the country. It seems PM Imran is already on his way towards achieving it.

Single National Curriculum

Punjab announced a single national curriculum. It will be implemented from 2nd August. The biggest province of Pakistan, it accounts for almost half of the country’s population. So, the dream is 50% accomplished already. Governor Punjab said that implementing Single National Curriculum in Punjab is an epoch-making initiative by the government paving the way to social cohesion and national integration.

Commenting on the initiative during a meeting, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs said that it will tackle disparity and discrimination that stems from different curriculum administered in schools. No more will the students from government or ordinary private schools be discriminated against. Everyone will have an equal opportunity to receive a quality education, through a singular curriculum, the same medium of instruction, and a similar system of assessment.

Particular of the policy

Federal Minister for Education, Shafqat Mehmood has clarified that by implementing a Singular National Curriculum, they mean having a standardized core curriculum. Schools will be free to teach additional subjects as they please.

Moreover, private schools can use any book which is consistent with the guidelines of the Single National Curriculum. As the policy is in its beginning stages, the government is only imposing it for three subjects, Islamic Studies, Social Studies, and General Knowledge, and that too for primary levels only – from Grade 1 to 5. These subjects will be taught in Urdu. Alongside that, Quranic learning with translation will be mandatory for Grade 6-12.

Single National Curriculum will eventually be implemented in all grades but for now, it will happen in phases. The first phase is for Pre-1 to Class-5, and all public and private schools will have to follow the rules from August 2nd. Next year will see a new phase. That will include classes 6 to 8.

The brief trailer shows the Professor chained to a chair and looking fearful. The professor is someone who has never been afraid, he’s always ahead of the plan. Hence, when the Professor looks scared, it’s time to be worried.

The caption also reads, “Checkmate, Professor?” which already implies that the Professor has been caught in an undesirable position. This tagline alone is enough to generate hype for fans because everyone knows the professor is never one to be troubled. Moreover, what is most exciting is guessing how he will come out of this pickle.

Our guess is that Alicia has found the professor and will now blackmail him. The team inside the bank will be left on their own to find their way out. Either it will be that the professor will convince Alicia to join him since she is also on the arrest list. Or, the team will successfully come out of the bank and rescue the professor.

Either way, we already know this show will win our hearts in the last season. Money Heist also won the major award of “Best Drama Series” at the International Emmy Awards.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Increases Prices for Mehran, Cultus, Swift & Others

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC), one of the biggest automobile manufacturers and distributors in the country,  has increased their sale prices by 3%, effective August 1st 2016.

The price hike is between Rs. 20-30,000 on all of their models. As a result, the benchmark-100 index saw an increase of 0.69%, concluding as a bullish day for investors.

Suzuki

The company increased the prices on their Suzuki Wagon R by 2% earlier this year. According to analysts, the increase in the prices of all the models will help PSMC to maintain high margins.

On the other hand, some analysts say that they expected the prices to see an increase because Japanese Yen recently saw an appreciation and went up in the first half of the year.

Mehran Lookalike Car Sold in China for PKR 250k: Price, Specs & Features

Some are predicting that the models will see another 2% increase in the near-future to maintain margins.

Last week,the company announced that they had a total of Rs488 million profits, however, they were down by 67% compared to the Rs.1.47 billion profit they secured same time last year.

This was because sales fell by 7% Y-o-Y, mainly due to the culmination of the Punjab government’s new ‘Apna Rozgar Taxi Scheme’.

Lahore Policeman Suspended For ‘Exposing’ Himself To A Woman

Every now and then, cases of men exercising their power over women come in front of our eyes. Those instances (be it of killing, raping, or exposing their bodies) are jail-worthy but the fact that men continue doing such crimes is because no harsh punishment is administered as such. A policeman from Lahore exposed his naked body parts to a woman. He was a trainee assistant sub-inspector in the Shadbagh police station. This event happened as he was arresting her two sons. Allegedly, he had arrived in front of the woman’s house on hearing a gunshot. He arrested a boy on the scene. When the boy’s brother came out and tried to save the boy, the policeman arrested him as well.

As he was putting the boys in the van, their mother arrived and got into the van herself to not let the boys go alone. Here, the policeman started insulting him by exposing himself and making gestures with his hands.

Considering our nation is one where we need social media to hold culprits accountable in this instance too, immediate action was taken. The policeman was suspended immediately. The charges against him were ‘abusing woman while entering the police mobile.’

To clarify the situation, the police updated their official Twitter account. In the tweet, they said that the police officer has been arrested on the orders of Punjab IG Inam Ghani.

It was also mentioned that the man will be dismissed from his current job as a police officer and tried for his crimes. The conclusive sentence in the tweet said that “What is a crime for others is a crime for a police officer too.”

In writing, it does seem reassuring but we cannot discount the fact that the hierarchy in our country or any country for that matter is such that the ordinary citizens are scared of them.

The question, hence, is if there was video evidence, would such immediate action still be taken?

Zameen.com And OLX Held A Fire Safety Drill To Promote Awareness

Fire represents one of the most feared and severely damaging threats to any real estate structure. This is particularly true in Pakistan as there is limited awareness about various fire hazards and their life-threatening and economic implications. As per the recent data revealed by Rescue 1122 — an emergency helpline operational across Pakistan — there have been at least 34,725 cases of fire-related emergencies from 2004 to December 7, 2019. The same source quoted that there was a 4.4% increase in fire cases in 2019 alone, as compared to the figures recorded over the preceding year.

Due to the recent spike in incidents of buildings catching fire because of a lack of vigilance and poor maintenance, Emerging Markets Property Group (EMPG) and its subsidiaries OLX and Zameen.com organized a fire safety drill on March 16 at the OLX Mall Warehouse.

An exercise to ensure maximum safety in time of crises

The fire drill began with a 15-minute presentation that explained the hazards posed by fire, its various classifications, the stages in which it spreads, and how to overcome it and control the damage. Understanding these concepts is vital, as there have been instances where people misjudged the type of fire and the results were disastrous. The trainers of the workshop also explained various extinguishing and evacuation procedures in order to better prepare the attendees on how to handle a fire-related crisis.

The training drill was attended by several employees of Zameen.com, OLX and EMPG. Additionally, the staff of nearby institutions also made an appearance and benefitted from the educational session. These attendees belonged to establishments like Hamdard Lab, Mehran Foods, and Nayyer Carpets.

The team which organised this exercise stated that “the purpose of the drill was to establish an organizational structure and procedure in response to major emergencies like fire”.

The one-hour drill also included a practical demonstration on how to extinguish fires and evacuate buildings during such emergencies.

The most common ‘culprits’ in fire-related incidents across Pakistan

Research studies have shown that the increase in these tragic incidents is caused by a set of common causes that have seemed to create a recurring pattern leading to disastrous consequences. These causes include electric short-circuiting, gas leakages, cylinder blasts, candles, cigarettes, welding, and other mechanical failures.

Fire safety is considered an expensive endeavor and a waste of money in developing countries like Pakistan. Other issues include the following:

  • The stakeholders have limited awareness
  • There is an absence of fire design guidelines and procedures
  • The ‘emergency exits’ are rarely made part of the layout plan
  • Even though the government has laws regarding the matter, it fails to strictly enforce them

EMPG uplifting society by fulfilling its corporate social responsibility (CSR)

EMPG is operational in several countries and is the parent company of Zameen.com. Recently, the company achieved unicorn status by announcing its merger with the OLX Group. Now, they are determined to do anything in their power to bring awareness to various issues and provide solutions that help improve our society.

EMPG feels strongly about the threat posed by fire for real estate developments, especially given the market niche. EMPG Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imran Ali Khan stated that “In all offices of Zameen.com, OLX and EMPG, we have ensured the availability of fire extinguishing equipment, fire alarms and emergency exits. However, since these incidents can occur anywhere, it is important to offer training exercises to employees so they keep their wits about them, and help themselves and their fellows employees’.

Regarding the fire safety drill, Director Administration and Procurement Mariam Saleem said that the purpose of the exercise was not only to ensure the general welfare of the employees of Zameen.com, OLX and EMPG, but to also empower them to overcome any emergency situations.

On a parting note….

After having concluded the fire safety workshop, Zameen.com and OLX further advised other real estate developers to never compromise on the quality of electric and gas line fixtures — especially for industrial and commercial constructions. Additionally, developers were also asked to opt for central generators for multi-storey commercial buildings, and to make it an ethical practice to spend 3 to 4% of the total building cost on measures to prevent the loss of finances and lives.  Hopefully, with these small changes, we can bring the count of such incidents to a minimum.

As a result, when Sindh was placed under lockdown for fear of Delta variant as well as the threat of sim blockade was announced, people rushed to the 24-hour vaccination centers. The said vaccination centers have been overcrowded ever since.

In fact, people even broke the Expo center’s gate to get their dose of vaccine.

For this reason, the government has announced some more 24-hour vaccination centers to get the burden off of the two existing lines. The newly assigned 24-hour centers may be the ones already administering vaccines, but their duration has now been lengthened.
