In order to be considered, the applicants will have to apply through the HEC portal. There is a specified deadline to apply so make sure you have your idea outlined to have a strong case. The deadline, for now, is January 15th, 2021. The applicant, however, must already be a startup owner and have endorsement from HEC specified Business Incubation Centres. They should also possess a Security & Exchange Commission (SECP) registration number as per Pakistan’s law.

And if you are not a student but would like to guide them towards success, there is also the opportunity to be their mentor. Of course, it is a facility only for people within the mentor pool. Winter season is the best time to nourish the body with some seasonal produce as well as fortify your diet with foods that can really uplift and nourish your body and mood.

Chilly winter weather affects more than just your wardrobe and heating bill. Your body also experiences changes in energy levels, metabolism, and even food preference. It is important to consume a healthy diet that balances all the nutrients in significant quantities during the winter season.

Here is a list of food items which you can include in your diet for a healthy body.

1. Millets, grains

Carbohydrates are the first and foremost component of a balanced diet. Wholegrains are some of the healthy carbohydrates to include in your diet. Whether you eat a hearty Makki ki Roti or some piping hot Bajre ki Khichdi – there are many recipes you can try. Consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta also suggests eating millets in one form or the other.

“Millets are excellent because they are whole grains, most are gluten-free, loaded with antioxidants, and help keep the body warm since they are nutrient-dense. It’ll not only give your body a welcome break but also give your body all the essential nutrients,” she says.

There are a number of good protein sources for winters. Some winter seasonal vegetables such as peas, beans and spinach are also enriched with protein. Fish, meat and eggs are great sources of good quality protein and can be incorporated into a balanced diet for the winter season. 5 Annoying Winter Hair Problems & Their Solutions

hair dandruff
Image Source: Beauty and health tips

Winters may be better than summers for hair because let’s be honest, the frizz disappears into the clouds. However, that is not to say that winters don’t bring their own set of problems for hair. But with all winter hair problems, there are always solutions and you’re lucky because we’ve got them for you!

1. Dry Hair

In winters you have to dry your hair with hairdryers necessarily. Air drying is no longer a solution because the cold gets to your head. The heat can make your hair really poofy, lifeless, and dry. Thus, if you want to tackle that, whip up a hair mask of egg yolk, Nestle yogurt, and honey. You’ll thank us for the most luscious hair you have ever gotten in your life!

2. Air Drying Hair

Another issue is that we can not tolerate air-drying our hair in this weather. Not only does the cold get to your head but your shoulders and neck can get stiff from being wet for long periods of time in this cold. The best solution? Get a microfibre hair towel.

3. Static Hair

We don’t know if you have noticed this or not, but hairs tend to become incredibly static in winters. It’s always like having an invisible balloon over your head. The best solution for this annoying winter hair problem is to get a wooden comb. Our regular hairbrushes and plastic combs add to the frizz. Wooden combs are the new haircare essential!

Dandruff goes haywire in winters and we’re all guilty of making that happen. This is because we tend to shower with warmer and – often boiling – water and this dries out our scalp like crazy. The best solution? Wash your hair in the sink separately with cold water to keep the shine strong and dandruff at bay!

Incredible Power Bank That Can Charge Phones In 7 Minutes

power banks with fast charging and what to know

The world of energy has quite a lot to offer to us. We are, in fact, headed towards a whole new era. Where combustion engines were all the rage, electric vehicles are going to take their place. No matter what area we look at, energy and power have a role to play one way or another. To have charged smartphones with us everywhere, we were introduced to power banks. They have the ability to keep your device charged even after it has run out. The higher the capacity, the more times you can charge your device. Now, we have progressed towards fast-charging power banks too!

There is a company deep at work within this area. It goes by the name of Elecjet. They have recently come up with a new type of power bank which can charge in less than half an hour! Yes, most power banks would take at least 2-3 hours to charge but this one can achieve it at five times the speed. So, why is it that this company’s Apollo Ultra bank can charge so fast and efficiently as compared to the rest of them?

Fast charging power bank

The Elecjet Apollo Ultra is the power bank to beat all the rest. It has enhanced capabilities that can function at a level higher than any of the competitors. Most of them don’t even hold a flame to this one. It is definitely a fast-charging power bank that can last for a long time. Not just that, if you are in a lot of hurry, it can charge the smartphone enough to run several hours. It can do this in just seven minutes! That is beyond impressive.

What is one of the most interesting parts about this device is that it uses Graphene batteries instead of lithium ones. Not only is graphene more robust, but they also have twice as many safety nets built within, to make sure the user and their device remain unharmed. That said, we urge you to check this device out because it has functionality far beyond what most companies have achieved.

Charging As A Necessity

In this day and age of constant usage of technological devices, charging has become essential. We cannot leave our devices charging for long because we have to use them quite frequently. Due to the invention of Elecjet’s Apollo Ultra, the charging time has been reduced. It has a capacity of 10,000mAh and the ability to charge at 100W. That is quite a high number and impressive on its own.

Alongside this, it can charge more than one device at a time, on two different output cables. It has over 2500 life cycles and its batteries are the best ones. As opposed to Lithium batteries, these Graphene batteries get the job done much quicker. The current price of this product is $69 and can be purchased from Indiegogo.

Sarsabz Pays A Melodious Tribute To Pakistani Farmers, Celebrates Third Kissan Day

sarsabz kissan day

Sarsabz is all set to celebrate the third Kissan Day in Pakistan as part of their quest to amplify the farmer community’s voice. Pakistan’s economy relies heavily on agriculture and farmers are the backbone of that. However, try as we might, our resources are limited and practices are not updated with time. Here’s how Sarsabz is transforming the agriculture sector.

Kissan Day – what is it?

In 2019, Sarsabz chose December 18 as the ‘Kissan Day’ for the first time. They came up with the idea to have a day on which specially and solely farmers are celebrated. This day would also be allotted for dialogue between farmers, stakeholders of agriculture and policymakers.

Farmers can bring forth their problems and issues and others can listen. This meaningful dialogue would trigger real-life changes for a sustainable future. Thereafter, this day was also officially adopted by the government to support farmers.

Have a look at Sarsabz’s new Salam Kissan campaign paying tribute to Pakistan farmers

Sarsabz Fertilizer’s recently launched campaign, as part of its #SalamKissan initiative related to the third #KissanDay being celebrated on December 18, has recently received more than four million views in just two days of its launch on Sarsabz’s official Youtube channel. This is an impressive achievement that helps to highlight an important insight about the Pakistani nation that farmers live within their hearts and their appreciation and encouragement for their stand as their utmost priority and desire.

What problems are being currently faced by small-scale Pakistani farmers?

Currently, climate change and obsolete machinery and technology hold farmers and their work back. Agriculture constitutes 19.3% of the country’s GDP whereas, Sarsabz outlines that our potential can reach 44% too. Pakistan has lost 0.5 million cotton bales due to climate change. Sarsabz outlines that the reform for this lies in modern technology and techniques of farming.

Additionally, high-quality seeds are not available in Pakistan which is why the current seeds are giving an annually decreasing yield. This can be fixed by more research which would help us develop insect-resistant seeds. Another problem is also how many of our farmers are still doing subsistence farming because they do not have access to more facilities and funds.

How is Sarsabz supporting farmer welfare and helping to modernize the agriculture sector?

Sarsabz is working on a project to develop wheat-sowing machines that can reduce per acre seed requirement tremendously. These machines will save Rs.55 billion for Pakistan when it comes to seed grain!

They have also partnered with Rice Research Institute to help save 20% of the water that is needed for rice cultivation. This practice of dry sowing is being introduced to farmers in Punjab who find it difficult to meet their crop’s water requirements.

Sarsabz is also working on improving seed quality through SANIFA: a joint venture with Sapphire and Nishat Textiles. This venture is aiming to produce high-yield hybrid cotton seeds in Pakistan. Provided that Pakistan is one of the major exporters of cotton yarn, this seed could improve our capacity by many folds.

Precision farming is also an area where Sarsabz is promoting farmer welfare. The mission is to maximize agricultural output through the adoption of modern irrigation technologies. Similarly, capacity building is an area of focus too for Sarsabz. The capacity of local farmers is being built at a fundamental level. This would ensure they are able to export their enhanced yields to international markets.

5 Advertising Mistakes That Will Destroy Your Business

billboard advertising
Source: The Times

You’d think that by the year 2020, most of the large companies would have figured out which advertising strategies work and which would fail miserably. People have been selling to each other for thousands of years by now. However, there are a lot of advertising mistakes that companies are making that often lead to a loss of clients, fewer sales, and a tarnished brand reputation.

When the top brands fail in their advertising tactics, it is a learning opportunity for the rest of the industry. Small mistakes like over advertising, awkward logos, and commercials that are an epic fail are just some of the handful of mistakes that brands make.

Source: Alberta Sign Rentals

Here are 5 Advertising Mistakes that businesses should avoid:

  1. Overdoing the Ads

Remember watching the same advertisement being played after every 5 minutes during cricket matches? By the end of the tournament, people end up hating the brand! Use your money to create very few but invest in an excellent creative agency that will come up with an intelligent and witty copy to sell your product.

2. Not Identifying the Target Audience

Advertising to everyone is a big no-no as it is a waste of time and money to throw out a campaign to the masses without creating a target. Not everyone would want to use your product or service.

The same applies to your marketing. You need to know just who to aim it at. It is essential to analyze the demographics, hold focus groups, and work on these results.
Use a laser focus to get them. Once you have established sales to this smaller audience, word of mouth will spread.
3. Avoid Borrowed Interest

Businesses must try to avoid associating themselves with things that have no relevance to them. Jumping on an ongoing trend may not always work for your business and may not get people’s attention.

Source: Axiomdesigns

4. The Message Should Not be “Me, Me & Me”

People do not care about how good your product is, and they do not want more selling messages. Potential customers want to know what is in it for them. How would your product benefit them and give them satisfaction if they are not interested in it?

Make your message about them. Use ‘you’ and ‘your’ in your pitches. Focus on their needs, and they will buy if you have a way to address them.

5. Selecting the wrong medium for your campaign

When creating a marketing campaign, you have to think carefully about how you want your message to be delivered to your audience. The smallest mistake can damage the brand significantly. With everything going viral on social media, people are quick to express their positive and negative opinions without any reservations! So, if your campaign was sending the wrong message, people will have no mercy over twitter.

bykea

Partnering with State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan, Bykea insures its customers against hospitalization, disability, and demise.

Karachi, December 17, 2021: Considering the high rate of motorbike accidents and the road safety situation in the country, the widely popular ride-hailing service, Bykea, is now offering insurance coverage to all its customers if they meet any unfortunate road accident while using its service.

According to research, bikes are five times more likely to meet accidents than a normal four-wheel vehicle, making the rider and the passenger vulnerable to life-threatening injuries. The insurance offered by Bykea in partnership with the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan covers hospital charges, injury-treatment charges, and offers support to the bereaved families in case of precious human lives lost.

The Bykea users now have the option to pay a nominal amount on each bike taxi trip to get themselves a Hospitalization Insurance and Life Protection amounting to PKR25,000 and PKR400,000 respectively in case of unfortunate road occurrences.

Rafiq Malik, Chief Operating Officer, Bykea, said, “We are constantly trying to provide access to services leveraging technology for the middle class in Pakistan. We feel our partnership with State Life of Pakistan is a first in offering coverage to the most vulnerable on the roads in Pakistan and we hope that in the odd instances of road accidents, our customers are covered when travelling using our platform.”

Shoaib Javed Hussain, Chairperson, State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan at the occasion said, “This is truly a first in Pakistan of digital and protection innovation, providing social protection to working Pakistanis at a nominal price. State Life’s endeavour and vision is to transform health, life, and financial protection in Pakistan; to enable Pakistanis to achieve life goals with the confidence that State Life protects them and their families. This is the first and important step in achieving that vision through true product and tech innovation.”

“As someone who is the sole breadwinner of his family and barely manages to make ends meet, I am thankful to Bykea for introducing the customers’ protection. God forbid, if something happens to me, at least I know my family will be taken care of,” says 37-year-old Shabbir Ahmed, a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

While Bykea, along with the city administration, has been encouraging the use of a helmet for motorbike drivers and pillion riders, very few citizens have any kind of insurance cover in the event of a mishap on the road. With this optional feature on the trip, the customers now can rest easy as they get the insurance cover to make them feel safer while riding with Bykea.

The feature is available for all customers on both Android and iOS, and users can choose to opt-in for it on bike taxi (Savari) rides with a single click while booking the rides.

Samsung And IBM Chips Could Last Phone Batteries For A Week

Technological advancements have become quite a common part of our lives. We cannot expect there to be innovation without such development. Every day, people are coming up with new and ingenious solutions to everyday problems. Even if the solutions aren’t new, they are definitely an improvement. Just like that, IBM has done something.

This particular thing involves working with Samsung on an impressive project. According to sources, the company might have come up with a form of low-energy chips. These chips are capable of delivering peak performance without compromising on quality. Rather, there is a major benefit to using such semiconductor chips. It lies deep within how the chips actually perform.

IBM And Samsung Chips

Since these are low-energy chips, they can be used as components for battery power. We know that a smaller battery capacity can be quite a nuisance for the user. Who would want to keep putting the phone on charge every couple of hours? Thus, what if there was a solution to this? What if we didn’t have to worry about charging the phone, for quite a while? The answer to this lies in the development that IBM and Samsung have been doing.

IBM and Samsung have recently developed a new vertical architecture for semiconductor chips. This allows for more transistors to be packed on said chips, with a denser packaging for them. If we look at the phone battery application, these chips can power a phone for, at least, a week or more! Not only is this is a benefit, but the low-energy consumption allows for room for other components to perform well as well.

Infinite Battery Power

Thus, this new development opens up the ground for a plethora of possibilities. If it can increase battery life by such a major fact, what else is there that it can do? We know that they ate developing this architecture further but there could be even more prospects to it. Who knows, maybe we get to see a camera with a more detailed output.

That said, we hope that the two companies continue to produce and work as well as they can without any huge gaps. People are always looking forward to their releases and innovation and the same is expected in the coming year. Long live smartphone batteries!

Kassim Shroff, Co- Founder & CEO:

“With a mission to keep customers at the heart of our priorities and ensuring 10 mins delivery and quality products, our aim is to give people back some of their valuable time that they would otherwise spend by going to neighborhood grocery stores. We see a huge potential and opportunity in this market and we have put our heads down to ensure we execute properly and deliver on what we have promised.

Ahsan Kidwai, Co-Founder & CCO:

“At times you need to purchase something urgently but don’t have the means or the time to physically go to stores. There are several areas in the country where there aren’t any marts or general stores – a problem to solve for. We wanted to make sure people have uninterrupted supplies of grocery essentials and don’t have to face the hassle of waiting in long queues.”

Hammad Bawany, Co-Founder & CPO:

“There is a common problem in the country. Sometimes e-stores would still list a product that they no longer have available in their inventory. This is a glitch in their app and their inventory management systems, which becomes frustrating for customers. After waiting for 10–20 minutes, the order gets canceled and the customer is informed that the products they’ve ordered are no longer available. This can damage the reputation of the e-store, affect the consumer shopping experience and also results in loss of valuable time on both ends”

Haziq Ahmed, Co-Founder & COO:

“Pakistan has the potential for 500+ dark stores with high population density areas. Our teams are lean, agile, and efficient which is helping us in scaling faster than any q-commerce player in the world. Also, we aspire to build a sustainable business model starting with groceries and eventually incorporating fashion, beauty, electronics, and other categories super customized as per locality and consumer. The 10-Minutes delivery model is going to be the game-changer for this industry and will set a bar for all the players to come in the Q-Commerce landscape,”

● MSA Capital:

“Quick commerce will redefine how users shop for groceries in Pakistan, which today is a hyper-fragmented and inefficient experience. We’ve benchmarked and invested in similar models globally and believe Pakistan is a market ripe for disruption. Given their relevant backgrounds, Kassim, Haziq, Ahsan, and Hammad are best suited to execute this model and build Pakistan’s leader”

● Faisal Aftab, Co-Founder & Managing Partner of Zayn Frontier Fund:

“The Krave team consists of rockstars from Daraz, FoodPanda and SWVL. We feel that the collective experience of this team will allow them to scale rapidly as they have no learning curve in the quick commerce vertical. We’re really excited to be a part of their journey to create the next generation of e-commerce & delivery in Pakistan.”

● Kirill Kozhevnikov, a Partner of ru-Net:

“Refrigerators improved the quality of life by allowing families to stock up groceries and have food available at any point of time. We believe q-commerce will disrupt household infrastructure and retail shopping all over the world: obviously there is no need to go shopping and then chill/freeze food if you can order fresh products at retail prices in no time. We are backing team Krave, one of the strongest teams on the market, to fuel its vision to ease the everyday life of customers.”

● Tito Costa, Partner at Global Founders Capital:

“Krave is bringing a world-class customer experience to the Pakistani quick-commerce market. We are proud to back a stellar team as they scale their operations across the country”

● +92Ventures:

“Q-commerce has emerged as the most sought-after sub-segment in venture capital over the last few years. The exceptional team at Krave Mart is solving for convenience in rapidly growing urban centers across Pakistan and beyond. Backing this start-up was a no-brainer for us at +92Ventures.”

● Brendan Rogers and Hershal Mehta (Co-Founders of 2 AM):

“It’s becoming apparent that Pakistan has checked all of the boxes that the timing is right for technology to solve massive pain points for individuals. We believe Krave Mart is on the forefront of becoming a category leader in q-commerce.”
