The portrait mode is one of the best ones that you can access on an iPhone. It is often used for close-up photography of objects, humans, or pets. A lot of people prefer using it for people and pets. However, there may be some functions and features that people might be unaware of. Let us dive into the tips!

1. Portrait Mode And Night Mode

You can take beautiful pictures with an iPhone’s front camera portrait mode. Yes, that selfie camera also has a portrait mode. However, you cannot zoom in or out of it so best move the camera instead. Additionally, taking photos in night mode in portrait can be useful in a poorly lit environment. Simply select the night mode feature on the camera and voila, portrait pictures with better lighting.

2. Adjusting Blur

Here is another feature that you might not have seen a lot. Portrait mode, basically, protrudes the person from the rest of the image. Then, the mode blurs the background to give a better effect. In iPhone portrait mode, you can adjust the amount of blur you want in the background. At times, it can be quite unpleasant to have too much blur so you can easily lessen it now.

3. Removing Portrait Mode

Sometimes, you may take a picture that you don’t want in Portrait mode. In such a case, you can always remove portrait mode from that picture. Simply go to the picture, select edit, and uncheck the yellow button. This can be quite a useful feature when you are unsure about what kind of picture you want. You can even save copies of either type, in case you change your mind.

4. Subject Eye

One of the most important parts of an image is the lighting and exposure to it.

Too much, and it looks painful to the eye.
Too less, then you can barely see anything in the image.

Similarly, there is a way to adjust exposure in this mode. All you have to do is click on the subject’s eye when you are holding the camera high. It will automatically adjust the exposure in accordance with the eye.

5. Editing Portrait Photos

You have an in-built editor on your iPhone. When you take a photo and wish to edit it, simply click on the “edit” button. This will open up a lot of features for you to alter and adjust. This varies from brightness to exposure, all the way up to tint and contrast. In portrait mode, you get two extra features. One of these is background blur and the second is portrait lighting.

6. The Perfect Frame

This mode works best when the subject is approximately between 2 – 8 feet away from the camera. It gives the best photographic results as well as quality. Additionally, this feature is made easier in an iPhone. If you are too far, it will ask you to come closer and vice versa. Check out this feature if you have an iPhone and wish to take amazing portrait mode pictures.

Savyour Launches #Notsosmall Initiative To Support Small/Medium Businesses

[Karachi, Jun 28, 2022]: Savyour, Pakistan’s first and largest cashback app, launched its #NotSoSmall initiative on the United Nation’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day to extend additional support to the hundreds of small and medium businesses that are currently partnered with the platform. Through a week-long campaign, Savyour will be helping partner brands reach a wider audience through mentorship hours by business heads free of charge digital/in-app marketing and cashbacks upsurge to provide consumers with added incentive.

Since its launch in 2020, Savyour has been helping small and medium businesses from all over Pakistan grow, by providing them with a marketing channel that requires zero upfront investment and only charges them a commission for every sale made through the platform. For consumers, this enables them to discover lesser-known brands that have unique offerings at great price points. Till date, over 80% of the brands listed on Savyour fall under the small/medium business category.

The #NotSoSmall initiative has been launched as a long-term effort by the platform to give assistance to smaller businesses that may get hit harder by the current local and global economic conditions. Often referred to as ‘the backbone of our economies’, approximately 3.25 million SMEs account for nearly 90% of all the businesses operating in Pakistan. This sector holds nearly 40% of the country’s annual GDP.

Saad Gadit, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Savyour, said “MSMEs play a crucial role in any nation’s growth – not just for the economy, but also for the respective communities they serve. They are a part of several aspects of our day-to-day lives whether it’s through the consumers they cater to or the employment opportunities they create. When it comes to expansion in this day and age, technology can help bridge the gap for them and that’s where Savyour comes in. We had started off with a clear goal of empowering the smaller sized businesses of Pakistan, and this initiative is a reinforcement of our commitment. These are challenging times for enterprises, but we have immense respect for their resilience and by offering our support, we hope to play our part in enabling their success”.

Pakistani Dramas: Blackmailing Girls Into Marriage Using Parents’ Health

pakistani dramas

Be it a no-non-sense girl like Shiza from Azmaish or an ultimate obedient girl like Khirad from Humsafar, almost all of them had their parents’ health linked to their marital status in Pakistani dramas.

Pakistani dramas & a weird concept

The takeaway from these dramas gets embedded in the minds of the audience. As a result, the parents start believing that if their daughters didn’t get married or chose divorce, they would get heart attacks or will die. Similarly, girls begin to believe themselves as helpless because they cannot even choose to get out of toxic relationships or say not to red flag proposals for they are afraid of ruining their parents’ health.

Read More: Victim Blaming: The Practice Of (Almost) Every Pakistani

Let’s highlight some of the dramas which showed this:

Azmaish

The antagonist in the drama, Shiza played by Yashma Gill, is a character who ensures that she gets what she wants. Even if it is about getting her father to agree to her boyfriend, or getting her stepmother slapped by her father, she can do it all. But when her boyfriend turned fiance says “no” four days before the wedding, her father got a heart attack. After that, the same Shiza agreed to get married to someone she did not like because her father asked her to.

Moral: You can save your father by getting married to someone you do not like.

Suno Chanda

Remember Ajiya? Of course, you do. Considering Suno Chanda got an unnecessary second season, there is not a chance that Pakistanis would not remember its characters. The drama showed two cousins who did not see each other as spouses but because their grandfather asked them when he was extremely ill, saying no would have resulted in ‘immediate death’, they had to say yes.

Moral: You saying no could potentially lead to someone’s immediate death.

Ishqiya

Featuring Hania Aamir, Feroze Khan, and Ramsha Khan, the drama showcased a girl who had been in a 4-year relationship. But when her issue of marriage was raised, so was the issue of how her father was ill, and that they couldn’t afford to upset him. Moreover, even when she did get married to the person he wanted her to, she could not reveal her past because she was afraid that she would get divorced. And if she got divorced, it would mean that her father won’t survive.

Moral: Break promises to your boyfriend, because following through could kill your father

ishqiya pakistani dramas

When we keep watching Pakistani dramas, the morals from every interaction begin translating one way or another in our daily lives. As a result, we see parents all around us talking about how their main purpose in life is getting their daughters married. And any problem in achieving the purpose would lead to a heart attack. Constantly seeing this in dramas, and hearing their parents talk about it, girls also are not able to exercise their agency when it comes to their marriage.

5 Hacks To Keep Your Glasses From Fogging Up While Wearing A Mask

Covid cases are on the rise yet again! Face coverings are being recommended for use on a widespread basis. Depending on where you live, it may be compulsory to wear a face mask on public transport and in some public spaces, so this has become an essential part of everyday life. Meanwhile, with COVID it seems like masks are here to stay as they are a prerequisite to protecting yourself.

However, if you wear glasses, you’ve probably run into the issue of your glasses fogging up when you’re wearing a face mask. From constantly wiping your glasses throughout the day, to moisture causing them to slip down your nose — we understand how frustrating this added stress can be. So to help, we are sharing top tips and tricks for keeping your glasses fog-free below.

Read More: 5 Tips To Stay Safe In Your Car While Stuck In A Snowstorm

1. Fitted Mask

A tightly fitting mask is the first thing that you need to check for. Not only does this help to keep you protected against any airborne particles, but it also stops too much breath from escaping and fogging your lenses. For the best fit, your mask should be snug against your nose and cheeks, and there shouldn’t be any slack or gaps for the air to escape. If your mask is not tight enough when you first put it on, try tightening the straps for a secure fit or opting for a smaller size.

2. Breathing Pattern

Instead of fiddling with your mask and trying to adjust it, you might find that changing your breathing helps just as well. To prevent your glasses from steaming up, try to push the air downwards when you exhale. It might take a bit of getting used to, but once you’ve got the hang of it, it’s a pretty simple solution.

3. Antifog Spray To The Rescue

A number of commercially available antifog sprays can coat your glasses with a see-through film that keeps fog from forming. Many are formulated for use on eyeglasses, personal protective equipment, swim goggles, and diving masks.

Look for a brand that won’t damage protective coatings on your eyewear. Steer clear of sprays made to defog auto headlights, These products aren’t intended for use close to your eyes and skin.

4. Skin Safe Tape

If your skin isn’t too sensitive, you may find that a slender strip of skin-safe adhesive tape will keep your mask in place and seal the upper edge to prevent misting of your glasses.

Some people have had success with athletic tapes, which are meant to be used on the skin. You could also try an adhesive bandage.

5. Invest In Antifog Lense Cloth

After cleaning your lenses, you could try going over them with an anti-fog lens cloth. These are specifically designed to repel condensation from your lenses to help prevent them from steaming up.

Why The Collab?

There isn’t a particular reason behind the collab. It appears Samsung likes to shake things up from time to time and this is just one of those bouts. If you remember, last it was the collaboration with Pokemon that made the headlines.

Now Starbucks isn’t a place to go to when you’re craving actually good coffee but Starbucks logo and merch has still got it. This latest collab is genuinely covetable for many, here’s why.

The Collaboration

The collaboration between the two includes branded cases for Galaxy s22 lineup and also two types of cases for the Galaxy buds. One of them is dark green with the Starbucks logo on it which is kind of meh. However, the other one is the cutest thing ever. They’ve made a small tiny white mug out of the buds case with a Starbucks logo on the front and the perfect latte art on top.

How. adorable. is. this? Can you fathom this? We can not either. Unfortunately, all good things like these ones are only available in South Korea. The price hasn’t been revealed as of yet but we have a feeling it’s going to cost a lot to have this collaboration in your hands.

Is It Impractical?

Who said cute things were not impractical? But jokes aside, the mug definitely is impractical. If previously the case could fit inside your jean pockets with force or you could put it inside a small bag or a clutch, this one will definitely not. However, someone pointed out on the internet that if you’re a big bag person, this will help.

Why? Because most people treat their big bags like a blackhole. Keep putting stuff inside and then it gets lost. So in case you’re like that, if you put this mug inside it will never get lost. You will always be able to find it!

INGREDIENTS

  • 200g macaroni
  • 1/2 (about 680g) cauliflower, cut into small florets
  • 20g butter, chopped
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons plain flour
  • 1 1/2 cups (375ml) milk
  • 1 cup (100g) coarsely grated cheddar cheese

  • While the pasta cooks, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes or until soft. Stir in the flour for 1 minute or until the mixture bubbles. Remove the pan from the heat and gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Return to medium heat and simmer, stirring, for 2 minutes or until the mixture boils and thickens. Stir in the cheese until it melts. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Stir the sauce through the pasta and cauliflower, then spoon the mixture into a large baking dish or six individual dishes. Scatter the jalapeños on top. Combine the breadcrumbs and parmesan in a bowl, then scatter over the top as well. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden and crisp.

5 Netflix Shows Based On Zombies That Are Highly Addictive

zombie shows

Zombie shows have a weird attraction for me. It could be the fact that the human body doesn’t die. Or it could be the character development shown most of the time when someone has to put down a loved-one-turned-zombie. Or it could be the survival tactics the characters have to employ during apocalypse. Whatever the reason be, we love it. So, it is a blessing if you find them in the form of Netflix shows.

Let’s list down a few of those Netflix shows, shall we?

1. Kingdom

A South Korean show, Kingdom became extremely famous even amongst those people who do not like the Korean wave. It has no hint of romance but jealousy and revenge are the foundation of the show making it the most favourite of numerous Pakistanis as well.

2. iZombie

The plot in iZombie defied the markers of what attracts me the most. The show was about how the zombie retained her consciousness and was striving to adapt to the human-zombie lifestyle.

Did she? Or did she lost it? Watch and let us know too!

3. Z Nation

Z Nation is about a band of travellers who meet at different points and now, strive to survive. Just like the Walking Dead, but this one brings a comic touch to the serious story.

4. Sweet Home

Another South Korean show that was a hit in Pakistan as well the moment it got released. Sweet Home is only one season long as of yet and shows the struggle of a boy as he fights the monster in himself.

Others in his group also fight their own monsters all the while fighting the zombie monsters emerging. The most scary part about this one is that people would turn into zombies without being killed first.

5. Van Helsing

What zombies, what vampires, what history, what magic? Let’s pool it all up and do it in a way that everyone loves. Et voila, we have Van Helsing! Not only will you love the main character, Vanessa, but you will also fall for her daughters and how they overcome their personal and supernatural differences to work together.

What Is Apple’s ‘Complicated’ Product That Is About To Launch?

Rumour has it that Apple is set to launch a mixed-reality headset in 2023. However, it isn’t the only product set to launch next year.

Apple’s Latest Mystery Device

The headset, reportedly incorporating both virtual and augmented reality environments, will provide a boon to the gaming industry. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said earlier in the week that we expect the headset announcement in January 2023. Meanwhile, it would be the most complicated product Apple has designed yet.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been vocal in his excitement about AR. Earlier this week, he explained that the tech industry is still in the “very early innings” of this technology’s possibilities.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities we’ve seen in this space, and sort of stay tuned, and you’ll see what we have to offer,” Cook told China Daily.

The Launch Specifications

According to the reports, Apple’s first mixed-reality headset may have something in common with the company’s latest MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The headset, which is just one piece in a deluge of products, is rumoured to be unveiled next year. It could sport the company’s flagship M2 processor, according to Mark Gurman’s Sunday newsletter for Bloomberg.

The M2, unveiled in June alongside the new MacBook Air and Pro, features redesigned central processing units and a significant memory increase, which would boost the much-rumoured headset over the last M1 chip.

Gurman’s sources also tell him that the headset will pack in 16GB of RAM. Combined with the impressive M2 chip benchmarks, it seems that the device will not be short on performance. For reference, the M2 13-inch MacBook Pro comes in 8GB, 16GB and 24GB RAM configurations.

According to reports, the Apple VR and mixed reality headset are a precursor to Apple Glass. The AR lenses will offer an “optical see-through AR experience,” according to Ming-Chi Kuo.

The Apple VR and mixed reality headsets are expected to be like a typical VR headset. However, several exterior cameras and sensors unlock bonus functionality.

That way, Apple’s VR and mixed reality headset can offer body tracking and incorporate real-world environments in a virtual space. Plus, the Apple VR headset could incorporate a see-through experience that can deliver a form of augmented reality. So, it’s not like the Oculus Quest 2, which is VR-only.

Javed Afridi Claims The MG3 Will Be Under PKR 2 Million

javed afridi mg3

Javed Afridi is the owner of Pakistani franchise of MG Motors. The name must’ve rung a bell because each time there’s some startling news about the car brand, he is behind it. This time is no different. Now Javed Afridi has just promised Pakistanis something that is making their world go round. A new car under 20 million PKR? No, it isn’t a scam.

Read more: Bookings Of Several Cars Suspended In Pakistan

What Did He Say?

MG Motors is coming out with a new car. The new car is called MG3 and looks like it is a super minicar. According to the dealership, it offers value, comfort, and most importantly, style. The front of this light hatchback car is the same as all MG cars hence, it even gives the illusion of being an SUV.

However, that’s not why we’re here today. We’re here to talk about the price point of this new upcoming car. Javed Afridi himself just promised that MG3 will be made available in the markets for less than 2 million. That, right there, is big news. The automobile industry in Pakistan right now has become as exclusive as it has become expensive. Will this car break the hold of the others?

About MG3

MG3 has three models: Core, Core with Nav, and Excite. Their price will obviously be differentiated. The color that is being promoted for this upcoming car especially is the Tudor yellow. We have a feeling we’re going to be seeing this bright yellow on the streets a lot.

The core has all the features and functions you’d wish to find in a minicar. From rearview cameras to LED daylights, it comes with super functions. Moreover, it also has a screen system that can get attached to Apple play too. All this in under 2 million? We’re also shocked.

The Price Point

Even Vitz, the famous minicar that many Pakistanis opt for whenever they think of a small car has crossed 2 million. Nowadays, 2 million seems nothing when you go out to buy a car even if it is a minicar.

Therefore, Javed Afridi has strategically priced the latest MG3 at such a price that people will not be able to resist.

International Baccalaureate Schools On A Rise In Pakistan

Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate (IB) pioneered a movement of international education and now offers four high-quality, challenging educational programmes to students aged 3-19. The IB currently engages with more than two million students in over 5,500 schools across 160 countries.

Uzma Shujjat, Regional Manager for Pakistan, Iran, and the Nordic region for IB sat with us to discuss the growth of the IB in Pakistan and its uniqueness compared to longstanding educational systems.

“The driving principle behind IB is to create a better world through education. The curriculum is designed specifically to encourage learning through experience, where learners are given a diverse, unique and challenging education that gives them skills that would help them survive in the modern world and also make it a better place to live in,” Uzma shared.

“It is largely agreeable that Pakistan’s current education system fails to create effective connections between literacy and technical and vocational skills, especially in a challenging, digital first 21st century.  While students emerge from IB programmes as multilingual thinkers who can comfortably live, work and make a difference in the world. This is the driving principle behind everything that IB World Schools do – education for a better world through communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking,” she added.

The IB offers four high-quality and challenging educational programmes, designed to develop well-rounded individuals who can respond to challenges with optimism and an open mind.

Students start with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) from age 3, and advance through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and choose their own pathway to university or a career through the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP), completing their IB studies at around 19 years of age. Each of the four IB programmes PYP, MYP, DP and CP provides a detailed and developmentally appropriate curriculum or curriculum framework that is broad, balanced, conceptual and connected, to prepare students for higher education and the job market. Currently, 31 IB World Schools offer 48 IB programmes in the country.

IB programmes move beyond examination results, aiming at the holistic development of students, empowering them to take ownership of their own learning and helping them develop future-ready skills to thrive in a modern world. The IB philosophy gives all students the skills and capacity to thrive and learn beyond school.

Moreover, teaching methods cross disciplines so subjects are not taught in isolation. For example, a science subject also incorporates elements of other subjects. Teachers don’t teach in isolation, allowing students to become well-rounded individuals despite what subjects they have taken.

Sharing insight on the program’s rise in Pakistan, Uzma, said, “It is personally encouraging for me to witness an uptake in IB education in the country. There has been a significant growth of the IB World Schools in Pakistan since it was first offered in 1996. In the last six years alone, the number of IB Programmes has more than quadrupled. There are 31 IB World Schools offering 48 IB programmes in the country. While we are currently assisting 16 local schools through the candidacy phase, a procedure to ensure the school is able to handle IB learner requirements, before they can officially start providing IB programmes.”

As per Uzma, the recent decision by the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) Equivalence Committee to improve the conversion formula for IB students and bring it at par with Cambridge education is a significant milestone. “This development provides IB students equal opportunity to get into local medical and engineering universities, and we expect this to exponentially increase the general interest amongst parents and learners to pursue IB programmes. Overtime, Pakistan will have pupils who are independent learners and critical thinkers. These pupils will excel at any global university and will have the right skillsets to solve some of the problems plaguing the country today.”
