Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited has announced its H1 2018 Results.
The Bank declared a Profit (after tax) of PKR 5.2 billion in H1 2018, which has increased 3per cent year on year.
Highlights:

Revenue and profit after tax are up by 3per cent year on year
Strong growth in advances by 12 percent from the start of this year
Client Revenue increased by 10 percent year on year
Client revenue has increased by 10per cent year on year with the positive contribution from transaction banking, financial markets, and retail deposits. While administrative costs increased year on year, the spending has been mainly in the Bank’s products, services, and people to grow the franchise.
All businesses have positive momentum in client income with strong growth in underlying drivers. This is evident from a pickup in net advances, which have grown by 12per cent since the start of this year. This was a result of the targeted strategy to build profitable, high quality and sustainable portfolios.
With a diversified product base, the Bank is well positioned to cater to the needs of its clients. On the liabilities side, the Bank’s total deposits grew by 7per cent, whereas current and saving accounts grew by 9per cent since the start of this year. The continuous increase in low-cost deposits has significantly supported the Bank’s performance with current and savings accounts comprising 94per cent of the deposit base.
The interim cash dividend of 7.50% (Rs. 0.75/- per share) in respect of the half year ended June 30, 2018, has been declared by the Board of Directors in their meeting held on August 27, 2018.
Commenting on the results Shazad Dada, Chief Executive, Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, said, “These results demonstrate the resilience of our business. Financial performance in H12018 has been steady with encouraging growth in underlying drivers. Our key investment areas are growing well and we are encouraged by our start to 2018, but we are well aware that this franchise is capable of much more. We are now focused relentlessly on building sustained asset & income growth with existing and new clients and are working hard to further optimize our control environment to achieve that.”

The second edition of T10 Cricket League 2018 is just around the corner!
Season one of the league was hosted in the United Arab Emirates back in 2017 and was very successful.
This year, the 10-overs cricket tournament will take place in November-December and Karachiites are in for a treat! This year’s edition will include two new franchises, Karachi and Northern Warriors.
Karachi’s team is reportedly to go by the name ‘Karachians’ and will be a part of ‘Group A’ along with Pakhtoons, Kerela Kings and Rajputs. On the other hand, Northern Warriors are placed in ‘Group B’ along with Maratha Arabians, Punjabi Legends and Bengal Tigers.
The league will start on 23rd November and will continue till 2nd December. Kerela Kings won the first season and will be playing to defend their title.

Considering that 4G technology became available in Pakistan 4 years after India, this is an accomplishment on its own.
The report drafted by OpenSignal, a wireless internet firm based in the UK, has highlighted the current state of 4G in Asain countries.
Australia and New Zealand were also a part of the list with Pakistan, India, and other countries. For now, the average 4G speed in Pakistan is 13 Mbps whereas it is just 6 Mbps in India.
Other countries which also meet the same 4G speed as Pakistan include Sri Lanka and Canada. Whereas Singapore topped the charts at #1 being the highest seed provider of 44 Mbps whereas South Korea places at #2 with 40 Mbps.

Fawad Khan was recently in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj with his wife, Sadaf. The superstar was also invited to Hajj’s closing ceremony, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Media.

Speaking to Arab News, the humbled hero revealed that he felt at ease being an ordinary person amongst 2.4 million people at Hajj.

Facebook is trying out a new way to help users grow their connections based on “things in common,” according to a report.
The social network has launched a test in the US which adds “things in common” labels, revealing what strangers may have in common, other than mutual friends, according to a story by CNET.
Currently, when browsing a fan page or other community conversation, the comment section is divided up into those from friends and those from the public, each displaying a profile picture and full name. Now the idea would be to also add a “things in common” label for the public section, providing what could be conversation starters between strangers. These could include “You both lived in Paris” or “You both attended the University of Washington.”
“Knowing shared things in common helps people connect,” a Facebook spokeswoman said in a statement to CNET. “We’re testing adding a ‘things in common’ label that will appear above comments from people who you’re not friends with but you might have something in common with.”
It has yet to be seen whether the platform’s ability to share a user’s data will bring people closer together, expand professional connections or simply make them feel uncomfortable and exposed.
LinkedIn has a similar concept of sharing professional details aimed towards building useful connection, however, its users joined with that in mind and generally aren’t sharing personal details, family vacation photos or selfies with friends.
On the other hand, “things in common” might help to combat ‘trolling’ within a community, a problem a lot of social media platforms are faced with. Users might be deterred from responding with negative comments when they notice that the other person grew up in the same town or attended the same college that they did.
For those concerned about their information being volunteered, the labels only display details that are already public on user’s profiles, so adjusting privacy settings would limit that, however, the report notes that at this point there is “no way to turn the label off.”
It remains unclear whether this feature will be rolled out globally, and if so, when.
The Pakistani batsman was tested positive for dope after reports came forth in May. Shehzad is most likely to face a ban for violating anti-doping laws set by ICC. Officials from Tipu Sultan Police Station reported on Sunday that thieves stole equipment and other items from many offices they looted at Shahrah-e-Faisal.
These robberies took place during the Eid-ul-Azha 2018 holidays. The burglary was committed in 9 offices located at the multi-story Amber Tower according to Gulshan SP Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto.
The police had received a complaint from one of the victims who claimed upon arriving at work he had found his valuables to be missing.
There is no official word on the arresting of the culprits. Eid-ul-Azha 2018 holidays commenced on Tuesday 21st, August marking Hajj and carried out till Thursday, 23rd August, followed by the weekend.

Pakistani cricketer Muhammad Irfan has once again made Pakistan a proud nation! The talented young lad who has massive potential and leverage from his height has once again proven why we dominate in sports, particularly in cricket.

The streaming giant has called on bankable Hollywood stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill for this science-fiction saga. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, the story follows a clinical trial conducted on a diverse group of mentally disturbed patients. Amazon Prime Video presents an original and insightful dark comedy focusing on the tribulations of marriage, romantic relationships, and commitment in general. In a script penned by Alan Yang (“Master of None” and “Parks and Recreation”) and Matt Hubbard (“30 Rock” and “Parks and Recreation”), “Forever” recounts the peaceful and rather predictable life of June (Maya Rudolph) and Oscar (Fred Armisen). In a bid to escape from their hundrum routine in a Californian suburb, they set out on a ski vacation that takes them into very unfamiliar territory. The first season will comprise eight episodes.
The network that brought us “The Handmaid’s Tale” is back with another story from the future. In the role of astronaut Tom Hagerty, Sean Penn leads a near-future expedition to Mars. The science-fiction drama will explore the relationships of those left behind on Earth and the team en route to the red planet. “House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon took on the script for this original series, which features Natasha McElhone (“Californication”), James Ransone (“The Wire”) and Lusagay Hamilton (“House of Cards”).
American television’s best-known private detective returns to CBS in a reboot of the 1980s show. Jay Hernandez plays a rejuvenated Thomas Magnum. Though Hernandez appears without the legendary moustache, an appearance at some point by the original Magnum, Tom Selleck, has not been ruled out yet. After a tour of duty in Afghanistan, Magnum starts out as a private investigator with help from his friends, Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks), Theodore ‘TC’ Calvin (Stephen Hill) and Orville ‘Rick’ Wright (Zachary Knighton).
ABC’s new show, “A Million Little Things,” tells the tale of a group of friends faced with innumerable questions following the suicide of one of their number. In creating the drama series, D.J. Nash drew on his own personal experience of a death in similar circumstances. The comedy drama features Ron Livingston, Romany Malco, James Roday, Christina Moses, Christina Ochoa, Stephanie Szostack, Grace, Park and Allison Mille.
