Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar has declared a holiday on Monday, September 3, 2018, on account of Account of Abdullah Shah Ghazi Urs.
All departments and affiliated institutions of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will be closed.
A notification has been issued by the office of Karachi Mayor for the local holiday, in accordance to the resolution number 594, dated 27-01-2005 passed by the City Council Karachi.
Every year, the Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi is celebrated by Karachiites on Zilhaj 22, as per the Islamic calendar.
The Annual Urs of famous saint Syed Abdullah Shah Ghazi will be celebrated from September 1 to 3 under the administrative control of Auqaf Department, Government of Sindh.
The Governor Imran Ismail is expected to inaugurate the Urs on September 1 and it will be concluded by the Chief Minister Sindh on September 3.
Abdullah Shah Ghazi was an eighth-century Sufi saint and mystic. His shrine is located on a hill in the upmarket Clifton district, Karachi.
Sindh Food Authority has banned the production and supply of 8 bottled water brands across the province.
This step was taken by Sindh Food Authority after extensive discussions with Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Ministry of Science and the Government of Pakistan.
Four of the brands are situated in Hyderabad and the other four are based in Karachi. The action to ban these 8 brands has been requested to be implemented with immediate effect.

Previously, Sindh Food Authority sealed two famous Nimco factories. Located in Bufferzone, it was revealed that the conditions of the Nimco factories were extremely unhygienic which led the authorities to seal the production units shut.

Dutch lawmaker, Geert Wilders has canceled one of the most controversial events of the year, the Dutch Caricature Contest depicting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Several protests broke out on social media after Wilders announced the competition in June According to tor reports, as many as 200 entries were received and the winner was to be awarded a cash prize.
Pakistan and other countries actively participated in the movement against the deeply offensive contest.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also released a video message urging Muslims nations to take prompt action against Geert Wilders.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Peace Mission Exercise opened doors for Pakistan and India for the first time in Russia.

Netflix Pakistan is now charging membership holders within the country in local currency, Rupees. This new change has already been implied from 27th August 2018 onwards.

Facebook’s ‘Watch Video’ service, which was already available in the United States for over a year, is now available worldwide.
“We designed the product not just in a mindless consumption but in order to get people engaged,” said Fidji Simo, Facebook’s vice president for video.
Facebook launched Watch amid a shift in video viewing habits away from traditional television to online platforms including Netflix and Hulu, and with more people watching both professional and user content on services like YouTube.
Facebook has been ramping up its video offerings with original shows and this week announced new formats including interactive game shows, quizzes and polls.
The announcement comes two weeks after Facebook revealed it would broadcast for free Spanish top flight division football matches in the Indian subcontinent, and Champions League matches in Latin America.
“Contents that we fund are a very small part of the contents available on Watch,” said Simo.
Facebook is hoping instead that videos made by users themselves are what will keep people watching.
Simo said Facebook had spent a lot of time developing tools so creators of videos can integrate ads themselves.
“We remain confident that monetisation will help creation,” she said.
Just like Twitter and Facebook, Instagram has now also introduced blue-ticks to verify authentic social media accounts.
Blue badges displayed at Instagram accounts will indicate holders have gone through a verification process that includes providing photos of identity documentation, according to chief technology officer Mike Krieger.
“Keeping people with bad intentions off our platform is incredibly important to me,” Krieger said in an online post. That means trying to make sure the people you follow and the accounts you interact with are who they say they are, and stopping bad actors before they cause harm.”
The long-awaited feature comes as Facebook battles to prevent the social network or its messaging platforms from being taken advantage of by those out to spread misinformation.
Verification badges are intended to enable Instagram users to know when posts actually come from accounts of celebrities, notable public figures, big brands or well-known organizations.

In coming weeks, profiles of accounts with huge audiences will start showing more information, such as when they were created, where it is located, and what ads it may be running, according to Instagram.

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) and its crackdown on various eateries is in full swing!
According to Dawn, in a fresh crackdown in Lahore, PFA has sealed 14 food business points, including canteens, restaurants and has imposed Rs. 121,000 fine on many others.
The team of food inspectors raided Java BBQ and Shawarma Points, discovering pests, open dustbins, the presence of washroom in kitchen, unhygienic environment, rusty utensils and expired carbonated drinks.
PFA also sealed Jallo Park’s canteen as it was providing substandard food to customers.
The authority has also penalized 12 food businesses with a cumulative fine of Rs. 121,000.
As many as 89 food points have also been served warning notices.
Over the past couple of year, PFA has been taking strict actions against substandard quality foods, imperfect manufacturing, and unhygienic conditions.
Earlier, the regulatory body has even taken strict actions against big brands like Pizza Hut, Gloria Jeans, Butlers Chocolate Cafe, Salt N Pepper and many more.

Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited has announced its H1 2018 Results.
The Bank declared a Profit (after tax) of PKR 5.2 billion in H1 2018, which has increased 3per cent year on year.

Revenue and profit after tax are up by 3per cent year on year
Strong growth in advances by 12 percent from the start of this year
Client Revenue increased by 10 percent year on year
Client revenue has increased by 10per cent year on year with the positive contribution from transaction banking, financial markets, and retail deposits. While administrative costs increased year on year, the spending has been mainly in the Bank’s products, services, and people to grow the franchise.
All businesses have positive momentum in client income with strong growth in underlying drivers. This is evident from a pickup in net advances, which have grown by 12per cent since the start of this year. This was a result of the targeted strategy to build profitable, high quality and sustainable portfolios.
With a diversified product base, the Bank is well positioned to cater to the needs of its clients. On the liabilities side, the Bank’s total deposits grew by 7per cent, whereas current and saving accounts grew by 9per cent since the start of this year. The continuous increase in low-cost deposits has significantly supported the Bank’s performance with current and savings accounts comprising 94per cent of the deposit base.
The interim cash dividend of 7.50% (Rs. 0.75/- per share) in respect of the half year ended June 30, 2018, has been declared by the Board of Directors in their meeting held on August 27, 2018.
Commenting on the results Shazad Dada, Chief Executive, Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, said, “These results demonstrate the resilience of our business. Financial performance in H12018 has been steady with encouraging growth in underlying drivers.
