The world of electric vehicles has seen quite a lot of development. In recent years, the concept itself has risen quite high. Despite there being major setbacks, the industry has started to grow well. In light of this, Javed Afridi has just teased a new electric vehicle.

However, the tease itself is not what the news is all about. As you must already be aware, Javed Afridi has taken quite an involvement in the automobile industry. He was even seen working with some brands that are new in Pakistan. So let us dive into the details.

Javed Afridi Teases Vehicle

The personality is the owner of Haier Pakistan as well as the Peshawar Zalmi. The Zalmi is a cricket team whose name is often featured in PSL for those of you not familiar. When we talked about automobiles above, it was MG we meant, in specific. Javed Afridi has quite a lot of skills and experience under his belt by now. It is never a dull day if you follow him on Twitter.

The teaser of the vehicle that has been given is manufactured by a Chinese company. Wuling Mini EV is the vehicle’s name and has gathered quite a following on the marker. People want to see it hit the streets and roam amongst the general public. After all, an electric car worth Rs.1 Million must be a wonder to drive. What has gone into its engineering to make it so affordable?

The tease is not just the range of the price. It has also been teased that the price may even be less than Rs.1 Million! Yes, this is quite affordable, especially because it’s an electric vehicle. With brands like Tesla, an affordable one can be quite difficult to come by. It is nice to see progress on this front.

In Jan and Feb 2021, the vehicle actually beat Tesla Model 3 as the best-selling EV. As underrated as it may seem, it seems the vehicle really does have impressive features and capabilities. With a 13kW singular electric motor, it produces a maximum speed of 100km/h. Seems quite ample for city driving. If the vehicle itself is sold in Pakistan between 6-9 lac, the public will go crazy!

EV All Day Everyday

The Wuling Mini EV also has many other features. This includes an Anti-lock braking system, rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitor, and a stereo system. Javed Afridi and this tease have quite a lot of potential due to its price bracket. One may find themselves mesmerized by all it has to offer. That, too, at a reasonable price.

SPAR Supermarket Wins Hearts Of Drivers This Heatwave

As always, Karachi’s weather remains unpredictable. You never know when the heatwave would hit Karachi or when it would turn into light drizzles. That said, while we may not be sure when it would hit, we know that it would come sooner or later. This is because heatwave has become an unfortunate constant in Karachi. All we can do now is know how to make sure it doesn’t have too much of an adverse effect on us.

By 2017 population statistics, Karachi stands at 16.1 million people. Even if half of us decide to be more vigilant about our surroundings, the rest of the population may not have to experience extreme side effects of the weather. This vigilance was shown by SPAR Supermarket in Pakistan.

When you visit the supermarket, you often forget in the cold of the AC that your drivers are outside. In the parking, the drivers have to switch off the cars. And even if it’s not off, the heat renders the AC useless. As a result, instead of suffocating in the car, they step out under the direct sun for at least there will be some wind.

SPAR Pakistan acknowledged these drivers’s struggles. They decided to make sure that the drivers get looked after alongside their valued customers.

SPAR Pakistan had their worker go out and serve cold beverages to the waiting drivers. In a time when most people do not really care about people with ‘invisible jobs’ it is nice to see SPAR caring for them.

Of course, one cold beverage is not going to be enough on a wider scale. But look at it this way; they are doing what is doable for them. If you, too, do what is feasible for you, collectively, it will be a massive step. And when all of us follow in these footsteps, hopefully not many people will fall sick or die at the hands of the heatwave.

The three-day vaccination drive is taking place at JS Bank’s Head Office at Shaheen Commercial Complex and covers both front and back-end members as well as their loved ones. The activity was a resounding success with long queues of people lined up for the vaccination and was well received by everyone. JS Bank family members were appreciative of the Bank having undertaken this immunization program and were grateful to the Government of Sindh for facilitating the seamless process.

The perfect balance of chocolate and cream in an oreo cookie is not only satisfying. It can also be used to create a wide variety of mouthwatering desserts. Oreo is one of the most beloved cookie brands globally, and there is no doubt why its popularity is nowhere near its death. So if you love your Oreos and haven’t tried oreo desserts yet, then you are missing out.

Try these easy-to-make yet delicious desserts with your favorite cookies this summer.

1. Stuffed Oreo Brownies

A layer of Oreos stuffed in the middle of gooey and fudgy brownies is a treat for your taste buds. This easy-to-make recipe requires the simplest of ingredients with minimal cooking steps.

Ingredients:

10 tbsp unsalted butter
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ tsp salt
Two eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
20 Oreos

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare an 8×8 square pan by lining it with foil, leaving the edges to overhang, and spray the foil with a non-stick spray.
In a medium-sized and microwave-safe bowl, add the butter, sugar, cocoa, and salt. Microwave for 30 seconds and mix the contents, keep microwaving for 30 seconds at a time, and mix until all of the butter is melted.
Once melted, add in the eggs and vanilla and mix until well combined. Next, slowly mix in the flour and chocolate chips.
Pour half of the batter into your prepared pan, then layer about 14 of the Oreos all across the top. Pour the remaining batter on top. Crush up the remaining Oreos and place them along the top of your desserts for a pretty appearance.
Bake for 33-35 minutes, do not overbake. The brownies will be gooey, so make sure you allow them to cool completely before cutting (1-2 hours).

2. No-Bake Oreo Cheesecake

This no-bake Oreo cheesecake is best served cold with your morning coffee. This dessert is not only easy to make but does not require an oven to bake.

Ingredients:

CRUST:

22 Oreo Cookies
3 tbsp melted Butter
1 tbsp Sugar

FILLING:

16 oz softened Cream Cheese
16 oz Heavy Cream
1 cup Sugar
¼ cup Powdered Sugar
12 Oreos, chopped

Instructions:

CRUST:

Crush Oreos in a food processor and add melted butter and sugar.
Press mixture into bottom and partway up sides of springform pan.
Refrigerate at least 30 minutes to firm.

FILLING:

Beat cream cheese and sugar until well mixed. Set aside.
Whip heavy cream and powder sugar until stiff peaks form.
Fold and blend cream cheese mixture into whipped cream mixture.
Fold chopped Oreos into a filling mixture.
Pour/spread into pan.
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until firm.
You can also garnish with crushed cookies if desired.

3. Oreo Cupcakes

The delicious oreo cupcakes are a treat for any dessert lover. Filled with the goodness of oreo and chocolate, this is going to be the highlight for your next tea party.

Ingredients:

Swiss Meringue Buttercream

6 Large Egg whites
1 1/4 Cup Sugar (250 g / 8.5 oz)
1/4 tsp Cream of tartar
2 Cups Unsalted butter, soft (454 g / 16 oz)
20 Oreo Cookies

Chocolate Cupcakes

1 1/2 Cup Flour
1/2 Cup + 2TBS Cocoa powder
1 1/8 tsp Baking Powder
3/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Salt
1 Large Egg
1 Large Egg yolk
3/4 Cup Milk
1/3 Cup Canola Oil
2 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 1/3 Cup Sugar
2/3 Cup Boiling Water

Instructions:

To Make the Buttercream

In a bowl of a standing mixer, pour the sugar, then add the egg whites and cream of tartar. Finally, use a hand whisk to blend it all.
Place the bowl on top of a pot with simmering water on the stove. Use a hand whisk to stir the mix and cook until it reaches 130 F or when the sugar has dissolved.
Remove bowl from stove and back to the mixer fitted with the whisk attachment.
Mix until a stiff meringue has formed and the bottom of the bowl is cool to the touch of your hand.
Reduce speed to low-medium and add the butter a piece at a time, gradually increase speed to medium-high, and mix until a smooth, creamy buttercream has formed.
Measure 1 cup of buttercream and place in a medium bowl
Separate the Oreos cookies remove them, and place the filling in the bowl with a bit of buttercream.
Use a fork or a hand whisk to blend the filling and buttercream in a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
Place the separated cookies in a food processor and process them into a very fine meal.
Sprinkle the ground Oreos on top of the buttercream and mix until a cohesive buttercream has formed.
Fill a large piping bag fitted with a large tip.

Baking The Cupcakes

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and mix to blend.
In a bowl of a standing mixer, place the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, pour the sugar on top, then add the dry ingredients.
Use the paddle attachment to mix on low until completely smooth, pour the boiling water, and mix carefully until smooth. Let sit for 15 minutes. (do not over mix)
Fill cupcake liners 3/4 full and bake for 15-18 minutes until a toothpick comes out dry from the center of the cupcakes.
Preheat oven to 350F, line 1-12 cup muffin tines with cupcake liners.
Remove from stove and allow to completely cool before filling and decorating.

Filling and piping the cupcakes

Using a sharp knife, cut an inch-sized circle at the center of each cupcake. Make sure you insert the blade 1″ deep, and as you cut around, create a cone-shaped piece you can easily remove.
Use the white buttercream to fill the center of the cupcakes then the dark buttercream to pipe the cupcake.

4. Oreo Truffles

The oreo truffles are an easy dessert that you can make when you are running late. These are the perfect desserts to engage your kids in the kitchen and make the perfect item a giveaway for their kitty party.

Ingredients:

36 Oreos plus three more
8 oz cream cheese softened
16 oz vanilla or chocolate candy melts or melted white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate

Instructions:

Line an 18 by a 13-inch baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper.
Place 36 Oreos in a food processor (entire cookie, remove cream filling) and pulse too fine crumbs.*
Add cream cheese and pulse in bursts until well combined**.
Scoop mixture out about 1 Tbsp at a time and form into 1 inch balls, then align on prepared cookie sheet.
Place truffles in the freezer for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, crush the remaining 3 Oreos.
Melt almond bark or chocolate according to directions on the package.
Remove truffles from the freezer and dip in melted chocolate, and use a spoon to pour some chocolate over the top, then lift and allow excess chocolate to run off.
Return to baking sheet, immediately sprinkle tops with crushed Oreos if desired, then allow chocolate to set.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

5. Oreo Roll Dessert

This roll cake is one of the easiest oreo desserts you can make without an oven at your home. This is best served chilled, and you can freeze it even for a week when you need a quick dessert fix.

Ingredients

Three packages Double Stuf Oreos
1/2 cup chocolate frosting
Two tablespoons milk
One stick of butter, room temperature
2 cups powdered sugar
Three tablespoons milk

Instructions:

Remove fillings from the Oreos.
Blitz the cookies to a fine crumb and add the chocolate frosting and milk. Blitz again and set aside for later.
Shape the cream fillings into a golf ball-sized shape and wrap them in plastic wrap. Put this into the freezer while you make the rest of the roll cake.
Put the remaining filling into a large mixing bowl with room temperature butter. Use a wooden spoon to cream together until smooth, then add the powdered sugar.
Mix and add three tablespoons of milk to loosen the mixture. Use an electric mixer to beat it until light and fluffy.
Layout a large sheet of plastic wrap on your countertop, and pour the Oreo mixture on top. Shape it into a Swiss roll-sized rectangle, then lay another sheet of plastic wrap on top.
Use a rolling pin to roll it out, roughly eight by 12 inches.
Remove the plastic wrap and neaten the edges up with a palette knife, pressing and shaping so that it is firm along the edges too.
Spoon the cream filling on top and use a palette knife to smooth it over, leaving a gap of 1/2 inch at the thin end farthest from you.
Use the plastic wrap to help you roll the cake up, finishing with the seam of the cake underneath.
Tightly wrap it in the excess plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for at least 2 hours to firm up.
When you’re ready to serve, remove the roll cake from the fridge and place it on a serving tray.
Remove the frozen cream filling from the freezer, and use a fine grater to grate shavings on top of the desserts. Slice and serve immediately.

Kubra Khan is Rabia Khan’s stage name. A British-Pakistani actress who made her acting debut with Na Maloom Afrad, Kubra Khan is making waves in the entertainment industry.

Recently in ‘ask me a question’ segment on her Instagram, a troll let loose. He asked her a horrid question in which he likened her name to that of Cobra. While many other trolls may have cheered him on, Kubra Khan did not take the joke lightly.

Khan snapped back with a proper list of three points. She clarified the pronunciation of her name so no other individual comes at her for this again.

Moreover, she highlighted the source of her name so others can get the information about it. Lastly, she also shared how this was the name of Imam Hussain’s (AS) eldest daughter’s name.

Firstly, it supports the latest AirTags and their operations. Next, the option to unlock the phone using a watch will also be made available. This is particularly useful in this ‘Mask wearing’ era. Additionally, skin tone variations for emojis are also being introduced.

Some things to remember

When you do intend to install the update, it is better to plug in the iPhone for charging. Since software updates can drain the battery, this is highly recommended. Secondly, make sure that you back up all your data before you proceed to install the update. You can have it downloaded and kept for a while. There may be bugs in the new version so we also recommend waiting for a few days. It is not possible to go back to iOS 14.4 so be extra careful when making this decision.

The chip shortage has proven to be quite a hurdle for everyone. These silicon components are used in a plethora of electronics today. Just a while back, Apple had to halt a shipment of iPhones due to the shortage. Since the chips are short on the market, prices of electronics have gone up.

Many brands are selling electronics at double the price that they were being sold at. Some are selling them at a quarter of a price increase. Regardless, the shortage has created a whole rift between the seller and buyer. The price increase is no fault of any particular brand because the shortage is on a global scale.

Electronics In Karachi:

If we look at just the price hikes in Karachi, it is quite a moment of shock. Just the other day, we found out that the iPhone 12 mini is being sold for 170k. Yes, that is Rs.1 Lac 70,000/- Just a handful of months ago, its price was nearly half of that. The same price increase applies to many other electronics too. The PS4 Pro was being sold between 60-70k in January.

Now, the Ps4 Pro has reached a price of between 90-100k. That is a quarter of a price jump! Console gamers aren’t the only people being affected by this shortage. If you wish to build a gaming pc, now might not be the best time for it. If you compare GPU prices now and months before, you might get a bigger shock.

The Nvidia GTX 750ti was selling on the market at about Rs.9,000 just a few months ago. Now, it is being sold at Rs.18,000/-! How is that even possible? There are much better graphics cards that can be bought i. 18,000. The GTX 1050ti 4GB was at Rs.15,000 in December. It has now gone as high as Rs.40,000/-. One must just find these prices unbelievable but it is true.

The electronics market has really taken a heavy hit with this chip shortage. The iPhone 12 Mini and the Ps5 are at nearly the same price! Sony has even decided to redesign the Ps5 so there is less use of silicon. This can increase productivity and reduce the console shortage.

But if you were to notice, you would see that a certain age group has been fixed to showcase it.

You will only find young adult to 35 year old women as the ambassador of the cosmetic products. While the society is not outlining it, the subliminal message is that after that age bracket, you will not need go invest in your self care.

The research by Procter & Gamble shattered the stereotype. The executives mentioned how the 50 plus age bracket is often neglected by marketers even though it is a powerful group. One of the FMCG’s brand is SeeMe Beauty. It is taking the lead of changing the narrative.

It needs to be noted that the narrative is not being changed in vacuum. The research for the brand showed that 75 million women control 70 percent of disposable income. They also account for 50 percent of consumer product purchases. Even with numbers this huge, only 5% of media addresses them. Of course, this research may not speak for our region but morally speaking, is it really right to tell 50 plus women, that they need not invest in self care.

Question that arises is, why is there not the need? Is it because of the society define marriageable age? Because of it is, then are we telling the entire women community that they use cosmetics to be presentable as potential spouses? Is that what we are projecting? That women’s lives revolve are subject to how much they are perceived by society?

Why is it ‘Much Needed’?

We call it much needed because P&G researchers as well as common logic dictates that older people especially women face many health issues. Those issues also translate into skin problems. What is the scientific reasoning? The lack of estrogens. These women experience dryness, sagginess, lack of radiance, and dullness.

Seeing young adults feature products for their specific age does not help them. In fact, according to a research, 53% of Gen X and 40% of Baby Boomers have said that they are unable to relate or feel ignored by the cosmetic companies. While one can sah that these products can be used by everyone, people also need to feel related to these products.

Hence, it was high time that the ads be it in the form of static images, as in this case, or full fledged DVCs started show casing the relevant models for the relevant target audience. On this note, let’s hope that fifty plus women also take the hint and start prioritising themselves above others.

Aamir discussed the need to start viewing the matter of low internet accessibility in the country as a digital emergency. “Half of Pakistan is currently offline including 15% population living without any telecom coverage. This gives root to a massive digital divide.”

“If we do not act immediately and decisively, Pakistan will be left behind in the race towards global relevance. We need to provide consumers with the right balance of data and the services they need beyond simple connectivity, only then will we start reaping the economic benefits of the internet.”

These views were shared by Aamir at the ‘Internet for All’ webinar hosted by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, in which industry leaders discussed the challenges and solutions for the seamless provision of digital connectivity in Pakistan.

Discussing the obstacles faced by telecom providers, Aamir stated, “We have customers complaining about internet unavailability or poor service, and the reasons for that lie in the limited resources that have been made available to us.”

“The revenue-maximizing approach that the government takes leads to mobile operators dealing with sky-high spectrum prices, unreasonable taxation, and duties on essential equipment. We are left with little choice but to overspend in these areas and we fail to invest in our goals of providing customers with better quality internet, higher speeds, and coverage,” he added.

Citing the example of the local automobile industry’s inability to innovate, Dr. Nadeem-ul-Haque, who was acting as the moderator for the discussions, raised concern over Pakistan’s sluggish evolution towards fifth-generation technology.

Aamir debated, “We need to press pause on the 5G dream while half of Pakistan’s population is still offline, and we are still struggling with the technology we currently have. Instead of comparing our technological landscape with our neighbors, we need to prioritize policies that are relevant to our country. We can leapfrog towards 5G if we are deliberate in our intent to sunset older technologies like 2G. However, we can’t dream about next-generation technologies when almost half of the cellular subscribers use 2G-only phones.”

He added that both the industry and policymakers need to bring special attention towards those users who were connected to cellular networks but not using the internet, to be able to make a substantial transition towards a smart society envisioned under the ‘Digital Pakistan’ initiative.

He suggested that the government should cut the cord on both the import and local production of 2G phones to expedite Pakistan’s digital journey and prioritize local assembly of 4G-enabled quality handsets which will help boost digital adoption and unlock tremendous socio-economic opportunities for the masses.

When asked regarding the possibility of Elon Musk’s satellite network providing low-cost internet to remote locations entering the competitive landscape in Pakistan, Aamir Ibrahim, CEO Jazz, responded, “Projects like Starlink are game-changers and I admire people like Elon Musk who think differently and are not afraid to challenge every aspect of our knowledge. Maybe Starlink coming to Pakistan will cause some disruptions, but it will also give us the opportunity to watch, learn and grow with the competition.”

With time new variants of coronavirus keep emerging, which are leading to more deadly symptoms and outcomes. The variant Delta, also known as B.1.617.2, has spread to more than 60 countries over the past six months leading to travel restrictions in Australia to the U.S. A spike in infections caused by the delta variant has forced the U.K. to reconsider its plans for reopening later this month.

Symptoms Associated With Delta Variant

Scientists have discovered the new variant is causing hearing impairment, severe gastric upsets, and blood clots leading to gangrene. The strain is now dominant in the UK and carries a high risk of hospitalization.

Abdul Ghafur, an infectious disease physician at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai, stated, “We need more scientific research to analyze if these newer clinical presentations are linked to B.1.617 or not.“

“Last year, we thought we had learned about our new enemy, but it changed,” Ghafur said. “This virus has become so, so unpredictable.”

Atypical Symptoms Of Coronavirus

Besides fever, cough, difficulty in breathing, Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, hearing loss, and joint pain are among the ailments Covid patients are experiencing now.

However, gangrene is linked to being associated with blood clots that block the blood vessels. Micro thrombi, or small blood clots, cause the blood vessels to block. This, in turn, restricts the blood flow to the tissues—lack of blood flow and oxygen results in the death of the tissue, known as Gangrene.

According to Ganesh Manudhane, a Mumbai cardiologist, who has treated eight patients for thrombotic complications at the Seven Hills Hospital during the past two months,

“Some patients develop microthrombi, or small blood clots, so severe that they led affected tissue to die and develop gangrene. Two required amputations of fingers or afoot.”

“I saw three-to-four cases the whole of last year, and now it’s one patient a week.“

“We suspect it could be because of the new virus variant,” he said. Manudhane is collecting data to study why some people develop the clots, and others don’t.

According to the doctors, These blood clots also led to excruciating stomach pain in some patients. The delta variant of the virus causes blood clots. However, there is no circumstantial evidence to confirm it.

[Update]: The current government had promised overseas Pakistanis to be granted voice. The best way to show your voice in a government is by voting. But the standard Pakistani way of voting is archaic and accommodating Pakistanis in that would have been really hard. Plus, it is high time newer methods were introduced.

So the good news is that the overseas Pakistanis may just get to vote electronically. The Federal Minister of Engineering and Technology took it to the public yesterday that the preparations for it are all complete. They just need to get the technology approved by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) who will be demonstrating the technology this week. That said, electronic voting machine manufacturers have already been contacted so the demonstration may just be a formality now.

It seems that 2023 is looking good for overseas Pakistanis.

[Aug 17th, 2021]: In a historic recent move, Supreme Court has now allowed overseas Pakistani voting to finally happen and now citizens abroad will be able to cast their vote in elections.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has ordered NADRA, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other stakeholders to facilitate the overseas citizens to cast their vote through the internet in the upcoming by-polls on October 25.

SIM Re-verification Process for Overseas Pakistanis

It would be the first time the nation’s history that Pakistani expatriates will cast their votes in the local election.

The move has been a result of several petitions by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and others to allow overseas Pakistanis to vote in the elections.

Here’s How Overseas Pakistani Voting Will Happen

NADRA will be devising an ‘i-voting platform’ to enable an online voting process for overseas nationals. Around 7 million Pakistanis will be able to vote through the i-voting platform

ECP will give the final verdict on the e-voting system once it passed the test for the by-polls

It is likely that overseas Pakistanis will require the following essentials for online voting:

A National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani
A Machine Readable Passport
A valid Email Address
13-digit unique national identity card number printed on NICOP card
The issuance date of the NICOP card
Machine-readable passport number
Tracking id number printed on the machine-readable passport

However, the details are yet to be confirmed and vote casting process will be revealed once the voting system gets rolled out by NADRA.

The tower found a new name, “Freedom Tower,” following the 1979 revolution. Rising over the city’s biggest square, the tower’s white marble stone from the Isfahan Province makes it a surprising sight for visitors. The monument is also home to a museum.

4. Golestan Palace

This building, whose name means “the palace of flowers,” is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated in the historic center of the Iranian capital, this sumptuous palace was once the residence of the Qajar dynasty, the family who governed the country from the late 18th century to the early 20th century, choosing Tehran as the capital.

This lavish palace is a masterpiece of the era, and a stunning example of Persian arts and architecture. In total, the Golestan Palace comprises eight different structures set within a garden. UNESCO considers the palace a noteworthy example of the successful integration of European influences into Persian style.

5. Milad Tower

As the highest tower in Iran, the Milad Tower is an unmissable feature of the city skyline. Standing 435 meters (1,427 ft) tall, it’s also one of the highest telecommunications towers in the world.

The tower took 11 years to build and was opened in October 2008. The Milad Tower is home to a rotating panoramic restaurant at the top — the highest restaurant of its kind in the world.

6. Valiasr Street

Men and women from all walks of life flock to this street for its many shops and restaurants. Stretching 18km long, the street is a major thoroughfare that divides the city into eastern and western parts.

It’s also a popular spot for leisurely strolls since the street is bordered by a large number of parks, including Mellat Park, the biggest in the Middle East. Valiasr Street is a great place to get an authentic feel for modern Tehran.

7. Treasury of National Jewels

Fans of all things bling should head to the “Jewels Museum,” as it’s known locally, to take in magnificent jewelry collections dating back to the 14th century. The museum is located at the Central Bank of Iran.
