Netflix has announced the real-life version of Squid Games that they will be opening up soon. The streaming website has apparently gotten inspired by the Squid Games series that took the world by storm. Netflix recently announced that the reality show will consist of 456 players. All of them will participate in mind-boggling, horrifying, and also scary games and compete with each other. The cash prize at the end will be $4.56 million. However, what we’re interested in is whether or not players will be eliminated like they are in Squid Games.
So far, we think the eliminated players will simply be asked to leave the game. According to critics, this is the biggest cash prize ever announced for a reality series and the biggest cast also ever gathered. The game has also been called a “social experiment”.

This announcement comes just after Netflix announced season 2 of Squid Games. The popular Korean show that broke all records and also brought other Korean shows to popularity is being renewed. The director mentioned that they were more stressed this time around for the season as the first one has received so much love.

Backed by the significant announcement by Silkbank Limited of an Expression of Interest from M/s. Park View Enclave (Pvt.) Limited (part of Vision Group) to inject Rs12 billion in the capital of the Bank and the subsequent approval of the Board of Directors to take the process forward, the Board of Directors, in their meeting held on June 8, 2022, announced the financial results of the Bank for the period ending December 31, 2020, declaring an after-tax loss of Rs6.57 billion.
The Bank attributes its posted losses due to various provisions taken against specific borrowers engaged primarily in the real estate businesses which were secured against mortgage of land. In December 2020, the Bank entered into an arrangement for disposal of the mortgaged land held by the Bank with Arif Habib Dolmen REIT Management Company.
The transaction was duly approved by the SBP. This development will substantially address the Bank’s NPL issue and result in major provision reversals. Moreover, another REIT consisting of Bank owned property will not only reduce non-earning assets of the Bank by Rs6 billion but is expected to record a capital gain of Rs6.1 billion approximately.
The Bank has already received approx. Rs2.6 billion as down payment against the said REIT structure.
The Bank has further entered into arrangements with major borrowers to ensure expeditious recovery of loans classified in 2020. The Bank expects most of these provisions to reverse within the next 12 – 24 months through the settlement and sale of mortgaged properties.
The bank’s flagship Retail and Consumer Portfolio continues to be amongst the top performing businesses in the industry. As a testament of the customer confidence reposed in the Bank, the growth was led by its Consumer Division, with Credit Cards and Personal Loan products registering a growth of 41% profit before taxes from Rs1.57 billion in 2019 to Rs2.23 billion in 2020.
The deposits of the Bank substantially increased by Rs11 billion as compared to December 2019, taking the total deposit base to Rs160 billion. Local currency Current Account grew by 26% while CASA deposits improved from 58% in December 2019 to 61% in December 2020. The bank’s Net Revenue also increased by Rs2.96 billion registering 61% growth while expenses declined by Rs638 million, decline of 8%.

This Eid season will bring a film to you that has comedy but isn’t directed by Nadeem Baig; has an excellent script but isn’t penned by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar; has actors playing characters but isn’t from the camp of Nabeel – Fizza; this film is 7 Din Mohabbat In.
It comes out as a feel-good film that might have a predictable plot, but it keeps the audience engaged through all the ingredients of a blockbuster.
His character literally goes from a zero to a hero; from a wannabe into a lady-killer. How he manages to do that is reserved only for those who will watch the film, however, I can tell you that for once, actors like Hrithik Roshan will wish they had done the role.
Sherry’s transformation from the slow guy next door to the man who saves damsels in distress for fun is the kind of character development we miss in our films.
As for his sidekick Danish Maqsood, he was too good in the capacity of Man Friday. Although he hasn’t been part of such a film before, he has the best lines in the film that will stick to your mind even after curtains.
The odd couple reminds you of the golden days of Pakistani cinema when Mohammad Ali and Lehri used to scout for girls with the latter getting hit; or when Waheed Murad and Rangeela used to play smart in front of ladies before their act was discovered.
The Girls – Neeli, Ghazala, Princess Sonu and Bijli
This Eid season, 7DMI brings to you not one or two but 3 leading ladies Neeli, Ghazala and Princess Sonu and an item girl played by transgender Rimal Ali.
All three have done a fabulous job and have stayed in their characters which is the plus point of the whole film.
Mahira looks the part of a girl in love while Amna steals the show as beauty with the brains; Mira doesn’t have many scenes but whenever she delivers a dialogue in her English Punjabi, it brings a smile on the audience’s face.
The Baddies – Kankatta and Amma
Aamir Qureshi’s Naseer Kankatta and Hina Dilpazeer’s Amma are the bad guys here because they don’t want two lovers to be together. Kankatta’s mannerisms will remind you of those bullies who have achieved nothing in life but always get things by force; Amma is one of those elderlies who are always angry for no reason.
Both of them are convincing in their characters although Hina Dilpazeer needs to get out her Momo phase for some time to deliver even better results.
As for Mustafa Qureshi’s son, it’s about time that people recognize his talent and start using him for his gift than for his surname. Adnan Shah Tipu also has a minor role in the film along with Beo Zafar who plays Princess Sonu’s relatives and while you can place the latter as a good person, the former was anything but that.
The Jinn – Dwarka Prasad from Delhi
Jawed Sheikh is the surprise package of the film as he gets to play a good-looking Jinn who appears like a devil and makes life hell for Tipu.
No one could have played the role better than the veteran actor who continues to grow stronger with the passage of time.
He had more than a dozen getups throughout the film and in each one of them, he seemed different with the sinister laugh being the constant factor.
He is the reason why the audience stays in the cinema because whenever he appears from nowhere, hell follows. Dwarka Prasad’s character outshines everyone in the film except for maybe Tipu and shows to the filmmakers of today that when casting in a powerful role, the veterans can raise the bar high.
The Writer – Fasih Bari Khan
Fasih Bari Khan may have written a film for the first time (not counting Jeewan Hathi) but he has had a vast experience of creating characters that are still alive after a long time.
He has used that very talent for making up interesting characters in 7DMI where you can relate to Kankatta who has one ear bitten and/or cut, or with Tingu Master who is short in height but tall when it comes to ideas.
The pop culture references, the dialogues, the screenplay and the climax prove that Fasih Bari Khan is on top of his game when given a free hand.
The Cinematography – Rana Kamran
Rana Kamran must get an award whenever one is coined for beautifying Karachi on the screen – be it Na Maloom Afraad, Actor In Law or 7DMI, he has done a tremendous job without disappointing once.
Be it the hotel at Beach Luxury, the top shot over Jahangir Kothari or the roads of the metropolis, he brings a magical touch that seems to wipe off the dirt away.
One must give credit to Beenish Umer for her Art Direction which complimented Rana Kamran’s work as well as that of other technicians.
The Directors – Meenu & Farjad
This is Meenu – Farjad’s third film together after Zinda Bhaag and Jeewan Hathi, however, it comes as a surprise considering they had shown a penchant for black comedy instead of the ‘white’ one.
Teaming up with Fasih Bari Khan, they manage to give a tale that has elements of Cinderella and Bedazzled the latter being the Hollywood classic featuring Elizabeth Hurley as the Devil. They have modernized the story, giving it the Karachi touch and packaging it in a way that you will not be able to resist it.

It has been announced that people with a household income of less than Rs40,000 will get a monthly stipend of Rs2,000. The new government subsidy scheme was announced on Saturday. It comes as part of the new efforts of the government to alleviate the struggles of many during skyrocketing inflation.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said in a press conference, “I urge people with household income below Rs40,000 to send us their computerized national identity card (CNIC) number.” You can text the number to ‘786’ to get the subsidy. The Benazir Income Support program is being followed here too. The details will be verified and the Rs2,000 monthly stipend will be granted.
The ‘Sasta’ Scheme
The new government has also launched the ‘sasta petrol sasta diesel scheme’ for 14 million households. This roughly translates to at least one-third of the population. Under this scheme, each household will be provided a monthly stipend of Rs2,000 which will cost the government Rs.28 billion.

“People whose poverty score is less than 37% will be given the stipend,” said Miftah Ismail. Moreover, women are also being especially looked after. Ismail urged women heading households to message on 786 to avail of the subsidy. The subsidies will start getting distributed from 1st July.
In addition to this, a “five percent discount on petrol to households with a monthly income of Rs40,000” will also be given. Other households with monthly income below Rs40,000 will get an eight percent discount.
The Impact of Fuel
Miftah Ismail also spoke at length about the address of the new government and how different it was from its predecessor. It was very well-received according to Ismail. He also acknowledged that the rising fuel prices are causing inflation.

However, he says that inflation would have further increased and the rupee could have further devalued if the government continued to provide the fuel subsidy. He said the rupee’s ability to climb against the dollar is a result of this.

NAPA stages an Urdu rendition of a classical play every year, mostly some classic work of William Shakespeare or Sophocles’. NAPA has staged four plays by Shakespeare in the past. This year, they are presenting William Shakespeare’s classical play “Romeo and Juliet” from 17th June 2022 to 26th June 2022, at Zia Mohiyeuddin Theatre, NAPA.
This play is directed by Zia Mohiyeuddin and the cast of the play includes NAPA students and alumni. Zia Mohiyeuddin carefully handpicked all the artists for this play, there were some characters that he already had in mind. So, he just asked them to act in the play on his request, while, for other characters, he auditioned NAPA graduates.
NAPA has staged four plays by Shakespeare in the past. All the renditions were performed simply as Urdu translations of classic plays without taking their true essence out, and this year’s play would be the same staying true to its originality.
