A video went viral on the internet last night. Popular TikToker, Hareem Shah, can be seen slapping a controversial cleric involved in numerous controversies, Mufti Abdul Qavi.

Details About The Incident?

In the video, a woman in a red dress can be seen slapping Mufti Qavi, sitting on a bed. Soon after the video went viral, people identified the woman in a red dress as Hareem Shah, and many started to predict the cause behind the video getting viral.

Hareem Shah later spoke to SAMAA News and expressed that Mufti Qavi was allegedly passing inappropriate remarks that she could not tolerate. The slap was retaliation for his inappropriate remarks.

Soon after the video went viral and Hareem Shah reacted on the news and gave statements regarding the incident, Mufti Qavi didn’t hold himself back and gave his side of the story.

Soon after the news broke out, several recorded TikToks of Mufti Qavi and Hareem Shah started going viral, with many pointing out that it could be of the same day when the whole “slap” ordeal took place.

Soon after the video went viral, many Pakistanis took to Twitter and shared their sentiments and poked fun at the situation.

 

Even though many people were making jokes and memes about the incident, and many even took sides between the two, it is important to note that Mufti Qavi and Hareem Shah have a long list of controversies in their pasts. The duo previously had an audio recording leaked, which brought both of them into the spotlight.

Hareem is Pakistan’s one of the most followed TikTok stars and gained a lot of fame after a controversy with Federal Minister Sheikh Rasheed went viral.

There were numerous videos and call recordings leaked, which prompted a lot of reaction and became a huge controversy for the Federal minister.

Mufti Abdul Qavi, on the other hand, has had a long list of controversies himself involving the late social media star, Qandeel Baloch, who was murdered by her own brother. Mufti Qavi had been suspended from Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf and Ruet -e-Hilal Committee due to his tendency to get involved in controversies.

2020 took a toll with the arrival of COVID. Almost every industry, probably except pharmaceutical, took a major hit. Or at least, that’s what we would think considering how much the covid affected businesses. But that’s not so. COVID did not affect everything equally. While some companies took a hit, some rose in ranks at quite a percentage. So let’s look at the top ten most valuable global brands in the running.

But before we get to that, it is interesting to note a pattern. In the top ten brands, five of them are from the category, technology. So that means technology was the industry that benefitted the most in the current scenario. And it makes sense as well, considering everyone was supposed to stay in the house and practice isolation. So, to have something for entertainment, or staying in touch with friends or even work, technology was the solution.

1. Apple

The brand value for Apple at the year-end is priced at USD 323 Billion, and the year on year percentage change is at 38%.

2. Amazon

With USD 201 billion, Amazon has seen almost 60% year on year change. Talk about cashing the new normal the right way.

3. Microsoft

Microsoft has not been that far away either. It has seen a 53% year on year change and is worth 166 billion dollars.

4. Google

But the worth of the company does not tell you if you did good or bad generally. Take Google, for instance, it is at USD 165 billion, only 1 billion less than Microsoft, but Google has actually seen a negative year on year percentage change.

5. Samsung

The tech brand Samsung has seen a minor but positive change, that of 2%. It is right now at $62 billion.

6. Coca-Cola

The brand had seen a decline of USD 13 billion since 2010. In fact, in just the past year, the brand has seen a negative YoY change of 10%. It makes sense considering in 2020; the company shut off quite some of its products.

Toyota is at $52 billion with a negative 8% year on year change.

The car brand is at 49 billion dollars and negative 3% YoY.

With $41 billion, Disney has seen a negative 8% year on year change.

Where COVID really highlighted class differences in the past year, what is stopping its vaccine’s development not to do the same? Us. It’s us who can step up and do something that will ensure a lesser divide. UNICEF, it seems, wants to remind us of this very fact, or rather jerk us awake taking the help of a very thought-provoking ad.

In the ad, they show the visuals of two girls with luxury clothing. They are seen wearing fancy, priceless jewelry. Accompanied with perfect makeup, the two models are seen posing with a bottle. They caress the bottle all over their face in a sexualizing way. The bottle in question was labeled COVID-19 vaccine. But the way the model advertised with it seemed like she was doing a campaign for a fancy perfume bottle.

And this was the whole point UNICEF wanted to make.

Let’s give you an example. During COVID-19, as lockdowns were imposed, the rich could afford to work from home or had enough savings to live through the lockdown months. On the other hand, the poor who earned through daily wages by doing manual labor, they suffered the most. They couldn’t get the work, and they had no savings. So the divide between the two classes deepened further.

Now that the vaccine is here for the virus that had choked the world, the question is, who will get it? Since the companies who have produced the virus are running businesses, they obviously have stated a price for it. But let’s be honest, the price for millions and billions of people is not going to be something that every country can afford to pay. This way, the vaccine will become a luxury only rich countries can afford. And the divide that was amongst the classes will amplify to become the divide between countries; rich countries and developing countries.

What Can It Do?

Samsung’s SmartTag is a portable, battery-powered device that can be attached to anything you like, be it your pet or your waller. Then you are required to set up the tag and link it to your Samsung account. Following that, the tag can be found using the SmartThings Find the app on your phone wherever you are.

Although there isn’t a lot of clarity regarding “SmartTag’s” battery life, Samsung is yet to provide more details.

Once you know you have lost something, open the SmartThings Find the app on your smartphone. You will then tap on the Find card, pick the device you want to locate, and wait for it to work!

Sometimes we lose things nearby if we’re in a hurry. If you’re close to the lost item, the gauge can be used on the screen to show how far away the item is. The fuller the gauge gets on the screen, the closer you are to the lost item. To help you find the tag, you can even make it play a sound.

Two For You To Love 

The first SmartTag is available alongside the Galaxy S21 lineup. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) as its connection standard. On the other hand, the other version, called SmartTag Plus, uses ultrawideband (UWB)  connectivity for a greater range of connections. 

There are two versions of the SmartTags because all Samsung Galaxy phones do not support UWB, but they all support BLE. Keep in mind, only the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the Galaxy S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra support UWB. 

How Much Will My Pockets Suffer?

The SmartTags available for the Galaxy S21 launch come for $30 for one, $50 for two, and $85 for a four-pack. However, the UWB version will launch at $40 for one and $65 for a two-pack.

The extra features of UWB mean that you can use a dedicated augmented reality mode in the SmartThings Find the app, which can help you find something in the real world. It will help you pinpoint a tag’s location in reality, instead of using a gauge that fills in as you get closer to it.

Pakistan And South Africa Set To Resume Test Rivalry

Lahore, 16 January 2021: Pakistan men’s national cricket team will be hoping to make the best out of the two Test-match series against South Africa, which commences from 26 January at the National Stadium in Karachi. This will be Pakistan’s first home Test against South Africa in more than 13 years. South Africa who last visited Pakistan in 2007 and won the two Test-match series 1-0, will aim to continue their winning streak over the host country.

Both sides met for the first time in 1995 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, which the home team won on the fifth day by 324 runs. In the 26 contests so far, South Africa have won 15, while Pakistan have been victorious on four occasions. The last Test between the both sides was in January 2019 in Johannesburg which the home team won by 107 runs.

Pakistan have hosted seven Test matches at their home soil (Pakistan) in which the hosts have won one, lost two and four have remained drawn. In the only Test match hosted at National Stadium in Karachi in October 2007, South Africa defeated Pakistan by 160 runs, becoming only the second team in history to beat Pakistan at the venue.

In the current Pakistan Test squad, Azhar Ali has faced the opponents in 10 Test matches scoring481 runs at an average of 25.31. Captain Babar Azam has scored 221 runs at an average of 36.83 from three Test matches with two half-centuries.

Among the bowlers, left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has featured in two Test matches against South Africa, taking nine wickets. All-rounder Faheem Ashraf in his one outing against the tourists took six wickets.

Among the South African touring party, captain Quinton de Kock has scored 251 runs in three Tests against Pakistan at 62.75. Former captain Faf du Plessis follows with a tally of 246 runs in seven Tests at 27.33,

Among the bowlers, Kagiso Rabada leads the pack with 17 wickets that he picked up in the last series between the two sides at 18.70.

Pakistan head coach Misbah ul Haq said: “South Africa have never been an easy side to beat, but them playing after 13 years in Pakistan will be an advantage for us, and we have a great chance to improve our record against them.

“The two Test matches in the ICC World Championship are very important for us and we will try to get maximum points out of it to improve our position on the table.

“Playing at home ground is always encouraging for the players, and it reflected in our performances in the series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh last year.

“The series against South Africa is an important one, and I am sure the players selected in the squad have the potential and hunger to give best results in the series.”

South Africa head coach Mark Boucher said: “Pakistan is a dangerous side at home; we will have to come up with a proper strategy to beat them at their own backyard.

“The wickets here in Pakistan are batting friendly, and we are relying on our batsmen to score runs. Their confidence will be high after scoring runs against Sri Lanka. Our fast bowlers will have to work very hard to get wickets.

“Pakistan bowlers will have home advantage, so this series will be a test for our batsmen, but once they are successful in occupying the crease, they will be able to score freely.

“We are excited to play in Pakistan again, and expect a great series ahead with all focus on the game.”

Aleem Dar And Ahsan Raza To Umpire South Africa Tests

Aleem Dar will officiate in his first-ever Test at home, while on-field umpire Ahsan Raza and match referee Mohammad Javed Malik will also make their Test debuts as the Pakistan Cricket Board, on behalf of the International Cricket Council, today confirmed match officials’ appointments for the two-match series between Pakistan and South Africa, which starts in Karachi on 26 January.

Elite panelist Aleem Dar has umpired in a record 132 Tests since making his debut in 2003 in Dhaka, while Ahsan part of the international panel has umpired in 37 ODIs and 57 T20Is to date. Javed Malik, a former first-class cricketer and a member of the ICC’s international panel, has refereed in 10 ODIs and six T20Is.

Asif Yaqoob and Rashid Riaz will be the third and fourth umpires, respectively, while Javed Malik will lead the playing control team for both the Tests. The second Test will begin in Rawalpindi from 4 February.

As per the ICC’s interim playing regulations, the requirement to appoint third country officials has temporarily been removed from the playing conditions for all international formats owing to the current logistical challenges with international travel. The ICC, however, continues to appoint locally based match officials from the ICC Elite Panel of Match Officials and the ICC International Panel of Match Officials.

For the three-match T20I series, Javed Malik will continue to be the match referee, while Aleem and Ahsan Raza will be the on-field umpires for the first match with Shozab Raza in the TV umpire’s box and Asif Yaqoob as fourth umpire.

Shozab Raza and Asif Yaqoob will stand in the second T20I with Ahsan Raza and Rashid Riaz as third and fourth umpires, respectively, while Aleem Dar and Rashid Riaz will be the on-field umpires for the third T20I with Ahsan Raza and Shozab Raza as third and fourth umpires, respectively.

Aleem Dar: “It will definitely be an emotional moment for me to umpire in a Test involving Pakistan. It has been nearly a 17-year and 132-Test wait, but its about to be over. Like the players, the match officials also want to umpire in matches on home ground, something we achieve in white-ball cricket, but Test cricket remains the pinnacle format and I am delighted that I will be standing in the two Tests between two excellent sides.”

ICC’s interim playing regulations, which will be applicable to the upcoming series, are:

Ban on applying saliva to the ball: Players will not be permitted to use saliva to shine the ball. If a player does apply saliva to the ball, the umpires will manage the situation with some leniency during an initial period of adjustment for the players, but subsequent instances will result in the team receiving a warning.

A team can be issued up to two warnings per innings but repeated use of saliva on the ball will result in a 5-run penalty to the batting side. Whenever saliva is applied to the ball, the umpires will be instructed to clean the ball before play recommences.

Additional DRS reviews: The CEC has also confirmed an additional unsuccessful DRS review for each team in each innings of a match, keeping in mind that there may be less experienced umpires on duty at times. This will increase the number of unsuccessful appeals per innings for each team to two for the white-ball formats.

The ICC Cricket Operations team will support Match Referees when processing Code of Conduct breaches and a neutral Elite Panel match referee will conduct any hearing remotely via video link.
