Every country needs certain resources to thrive and survive. Without said resources, they might descend into difficult times which can be hard to shake off. Now, in 2021, the budget of the fiscal year has just been announced. There is quite a lot of development being done on this front. We see the country going through development every day. It was expected that the budget was going to be announced on June 11th, which is today, So, we have quite a lot of juicy news for you. The focus of the budget is said to be on the increasing expenditures. The point is to make sure that the country can survive with the allotted budget. Since the aim of the Federal Minister for Finance, was set high, the expectations are high too. Pakistan was expected to have a budget with a target for higher growth.

The Budget 2021-22:

Firstly, in this budget, it is highly unlikely that the government is going to impose any new taxes. During a meeting, the Prime Minister was asked whether the budget was going to be a people-friendly one. In response to that, Prime Minister Imran Khan had an interesting thing to say. It sounded quite optimistic and we hope that it is delivered as expected in the coming year. He said and we quote,

“Today, everyone will be happy”

Now, this is quite a powerful statement. It shows that the budget has been decided, keeping the public in view. It is because of the people that the government functions so they should have some advantages. Life should be made less difficult for them. This meeting was said to take place at 2 pm today. However, at 3 pm, the opposition had also held a meeting to discuss the development of the budget.

Economy And Pakistan

The opposition has also decided to make some decisions on the budget. It was once stated earlier that inflation and unemployment in Pakistan had greatly increased. A person has to go through a plethora of obstacles to actually find employment in a place. It can be quite an exhausting task. To support the reduction of unemployment, the Prime Minister also released certain programmes. They are all a part of the ‘Kamyab Jawaan’ initiative.

The Budget Amount

We hope that certain vital decisions were made during the two meetings. Pakistan needs a budget to survive and thrive in this changing era. The budget amount that was presented today was about Rs.8.5 trillion. The government also aims at providing relief for over 6 to 8 million people. That means the govt itself is willing to help the people quite a lot. However, if the IMF doesn’t feel satisfied with the reports and stats, they may put it into suspension mode. Let us hope they hold us high when we present it.

Sometimes, a coalition is necessary in certain times. One needs help from the other and also benefits the other. In the technological industry, this can be considered quite common. If you see heavy machinery on a construction site, you may also see another brand there. ‘Caterpillar’ makes heavy cranes and other machinery but they also have ‘Samsung’ written on their products. Similarly, Apple is planning to partner up with BYD for a piece of development.

BYD And Apple Join Hands

BYD is the name of a Chinese company. This is a company that specializes in electric vehicles. They make sure the customer gets the best of what they have paid for. Electric vehicles can be quite a hefty investment and BYD wants to give it all. They have established themselves as quite a top-tier name amongst electric car brands. If Apple is approaching a brand for a partnership, the brand must really have potential.

While the internal systems of the electric car are in Apple’s hands, they want the partnership for another reason. Electric cars don’t have an engine block, they run on batteries. According to the terms of the alliance, BYD will provide Apple with the batteries it needs to run the car.

According to sources, the two companies are already in talks, with Apple going for Lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. This is also because the batteries are cost-friendly.

They started from computers and have gotten quite far. The industries that they are dipping into are quite well established. However, Apple is still bringing a lot of innovation to the table. They want to be one of the top-tier ones in the race towards a clean future. Despite there being heavy competition, Apple is still running at its best pace. With the iPhone 13 coming out in the near future, who knows what we should expect. The company is also moving towards the M2 line of chips.

We hope that this partnership bears good fruit and allows BYD to expand too. The deal should definitely cut both ways. BYD is the fourth largest EV battery maker in the world. While their sights are set on BYD, Apple might be looking at other brands too.

Pakistanis are confused as their favorite Ertugrul actors drop Netflix-worthy teasers on Instagram.

It only took the PM of Pakistan recommending a series, and it became an instant hit in the country. A huge population did watch it on PTV as it aired while the rest watched it on Netflix. The ties to Islam and the Ottoman Empire may have been the elements that looped in the Pakistani audience but Pakistanis on Netflix love consuming this type of content; cases in point would be The Witcher and Cursed.

Seeing the track record of Netflix, The Witcher, Cursed, and also Ertugrul on the platform, it was only right for people to make the same connection upon seeing the teaser.

Ertugrul actors are uploading teasers but of what?

If you followed Ertugrul, you would recall Turgut Alp and Bamsi Alp. Cengiz Coskun and Nurettin Sonmez respectively played these characters. In attires that looked similar to the ones fighters wore in the Ertugrul series, Cengiz and Nurretin dropped teasers on their Instagram account. One put the hashtag #iamawarrior, while the other used the hashtag #iamadefender.

The setting does seem similar to that of Ertugrul but it cannot be that same series because it has ended. And when these teasers begin, they do so with the caption, ‘Coming Soon’. The only thing that makes sense at this point after seeing the cinematography of the teasers is that this is some next-level Netflix quality content.

Ertugrul fans beyond excited

We are not the only ones confused. People all over Instagram, especially their fans, are unable to contain their excitement. Not only do they want to the name of this upcoming project but they also can’t wait for its launch.

As the fans saw the scene play out, they were even reminded of the famous Turgut Bey axe. So is it really related to Ertugrul somehow?

We did try speculating what this project could be. But as we explored the internet further, all we came across was images of Cengiz saying “I am a Warrior. Who are you?” and Nurettin saying, “I am a defender. Who are you?”

If you are amazing at storytelling, you will be able to make a point in a few seconds or few minutes. Remember the ad where the mommy would put a message for her son with the cake? It moved you, didn’t it? That’s what a TVC should do. And strategy differs for every brand too. An emotional outlook works for one brand, but for another brand, it is the dance couple with jingles. Swiss Premium cheese went with the latter in their latest TVC.

As you can see, the ad is actually nice. It is one feel good TVC with a catchy jingle. What’s interesting is that they have culturally appropriated the idea of cheese. Usually, cheese is restricted to non-desi foods. But in a few seconds, they created a parallel between fast food as well as desi parathas, and it just seems natural.

Opinions, Opinions, Opinions

When the ad was taken to social media platforms, as expected, people started sharing their views.

Going through their comments, it was clear that they did not really like the ad, at least some did not. The complaint was that it seems Pakistan has picked one element and now every other TVC can be based on that; the elements being dance. One netizen even compared the product to a drug saying only that justifies all that dancing.

Of course, no everyone was against them. According to a certain netizen, it was a good effort by a product that filled a niche. He said that he doesn’t recall any other brand doing business in the same category. On the same side was another person who said that if they maintain a good price for the product, it might just catch on.

But the conversation against the TVC kept continuing with people now coming forward with sarcastic remarks as well. As you can see in the above comment, it is clear that the netizen had a sarcastic tone because he felt like dancy jingle ads have become the new normal.

Another netizen had a suggestion for the marketing community. The comment suggested that maybe the marketers can try doing something other than dancing for the same cool and funny category.

Poor storyline or not, poorly shot or not, the ad got its point across. And Swiss Premium Cheese is being talked about, so I guess, mission accomplished.

Adidas has launched a recent campaign to offer inclusivity in swimming. Their new campaign, ‘Beyond the Surface,’ is the brand’s first range of full-cover swimwear. The new collection features 18 pieces available in three colorways, black, purple, and burgundy. The collection aims to be women-centric and offers style with inclusivity.

Throwback to also when Iffat Omar kept laughing while Nouman Ijaz continued to explicitly admit to extra-marital affairs. Hosts have the power to direct the conversation in any which way they want. For only a few more views and popularity, they take it in the wrong direction. We can all learn something from Ahsan Khan being heftily fined for animal abuse when he brought rabbits to scare celebrities for fun.

PTCL Builds FTTH Infrastructure In Pakistan

An exciting webinar was hosted by Facebook where industry stakeholders contributed with the challenges and opportunities related to connectivity through fiber titled ‘Building Robust Urban Fiber Infrastructure in Pakistan’. The panel consisted of speakers from Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), Telecom Infra Project (TIP), Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (ISPAK), along other industry stakeholders.

All the guests that were part of the webinar brought in exclusive individual viewpoints that clarified why Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) had yet to reach its full potential in the urban parts of Pakistan. The session was informative as it focused on current challenges and benefits that can result from having higher speed and quality internet through optical fiber connections.

Guests and speakers shed light on hurdles in not only deploying fiber networks but also managing the infrastructure in major cities, towns and far-flung areas of the country. It was identified that vendors offering fiber optic internet services had to invest and deploy their own cable infrastructure that entailed a long-drawn tedious process that each service provider had to go through to gain Right of Way (RoW).

Furthermore, they have to seek approvals and permissions from concerned civil administrations of that area to be precise, along with heavy taxes imposed that discourages internet service providers from investing in this domain. Not to mention the inconvenience caused to citizens as streets and roads are dug up all over the areas under deployment.

We found out that PTCL has decided to share its infrastructure nationwide with other vendors to provide ease of doing business. This concept of shared infrastructure will reduce the cost of doing business for the industry and will also provide convenience and access to high-quality internet that is much needed in our country to boost the economy. It was revealed that PTCL’s focus is towards providing high-quality internet service even in smaller towns and cities that will be certain that will close the digital divide.

The main theme throughout the sessions during the webinar was the strategic importance of realizing the vision of Digital Pakistan for the economic growth and social uplift of its citizens.

So, the company may have to keep the delivery prices in perspective. Is the price of the drone being justified by the amount that is received on deliveries?

It can be considered a highly practical idea, but it requires more effort. The drone needs to be quite capable of handling distance and battery. The more distance you wish to control it from, the higher the cost of the drone itself. Plus, the drone would require routine upkeep and protection from humidity. Coca-Cola Takes Part In A Major Ocean Cleanup Drive

In most instances, there are no clean ways of disposing of wastage. As a result, most of it ends up in seas and oceans. This waste includes not just the garbage on the beaches but also the ones from manufacturing plants. Coca-Cola has taken it upon itself to be a part of a major ocean cleanup drive to clear at least some of the waters.

To carry out this activity, Coca-Cola is teaming up with Ocean Cleanup to prioritize the oceans this time. The objective this time is to intercept the plastic debris from around the world.

As part of this joint venture, Coca-Cola will bring to the table its global network; Ocean Cleanup will bring technology and data-driven solutions. The venture will make use of Dutch nonprofit’s solar-powered Interceptor as one of the cleaning systems. By the end of 2022, it will be seen in 15 rivers.

For now, Ocean Cleanup has installed two Interceptors; one at Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, and the other at Can Tho, Vietnam.

How will the technology work?

Interceptor was unveiled in 2019 as a scalable solution for collecting plastic waste. A barrier guides the waste travelling with the water current towards the opening of the Interceptor. The waste goes to the conveyor belt. There, the waste goes into a shuttle which gets taken to the shore. After that, the local teams get involved. They will sort out the wastes. For instance, the collected PET plastic bottles will be turned into new bottles.

The Ocean Cleanup

Boyan Slat, Founder and CEO, The Ocean Cleanup said:

“The Ocean Cleanup’s mission is to rid the oceans of plastic. With 1,000 rivers emitting nearly 80% of river-carried plastic into oceans, this massive problem grows by the day, which is why we are always looking to accelerate our progress. Among the waste we collect with our cleanup systems, we find many plastic bottles, including Coca-Cola packaging, so I applaud them for being the first in the industry to join our mission, as part of their wider actions to make a positive impact on worldwide plastic pollution. Our clear intent is to take our learnings from this partnership, which has the potential to evolve in the future and continue to scale rapidly. That’s why I believe this is good news for our oceans.”
