The world of fashion has many different parameters than the real world. However, whenever there is a crossover, both worlds have to bend their rules a bit to accommodate the other. Taking Pakistani TV channels for instance, when you see the wardrobe of actresses in dramas, it is vastly different from what we see on their Instagram, and that is how they compromise because they know what the TV medium would allow them and what it will not forgive. It turns out that IPPA Awards had a similar run-in of fashion with TV.
Considering what TV channels especially HUM TV that broadcasts to millions can show, the dress must have been too revealing. Now, Fatima Hasan’s stance was that she felt humiliated. She said that she should have been informed earlier of what the guidelines were. She also stated that she had shared the details of the dress with the production team and they had approved it.
However, here’s the thing. When you know that content is being made for the television channels, you always have to play safe. It is not like our actresses do not make bold statements but we have to think about how dressing boldly is becoming synonymous with dressing western. And in all this drama, we forget to consider what medium the content will air on. Remember the dress Ayesha Omar wore recently? Her side pose triggered too much criticism.
The tube tops, the fitted gowns, the backless dresses, are they really the dresses that represent Pakistan? The fashion world and Pakistan may be different, understandable. But when you are at an award show, especially one being held abroad, you are representing Pakistan, what then should be your attire?
When you are in the fashion industry, it is understandable that your parameters may be far from what ordinary citizens have. It is the case anywhere and not just in Pakistan. But when you are to air on a TV channel, you just cannot have a tantrum about how you were kicked off for not meeting the medium’s guidelines. [Update: November 1st, 2021]: After the news went viral that the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) had suffered a cyberattack, consumers were in a frenzy about their financial data. Just 12 hours ago, NBP issued a statement through their social media platform that the data has not been compromised.
“NBP assures its customers that their financial data has not been compromised and has remained protected, confidential, and secured,” the Bank said.
They further updated that the bank has already countered the threat posed by the cyberattack and repaired the affected parts of the system. Moreover, NBP also mentioned in the statement that the disbursements of salaries will also be possible by November 1st, 2021.
They will be assisting the consumers with no discontinuance whatsoever.
The statement ended with the bank thanking the consumers for displaying patience, “NBP would like to thank its customers, partners, vendors and correspondent banks for their support and understanding during this trying period.”
[October 31st, 2021]: The age of technology is evolving at such a pace, we find ourselves often surprised. Where there is development in the positive direction, there is one in the negative as well. Ever since the cyber world became a reality, cyber security became just as essential. Hackers and Exploiters can appear out of nowhere, anywhere on the internet. Where there is a virtual presence, there is always a risk of a cyberattack. Despite there being some measures in place, some can always find a way to fool the system. The National Bank of Pakistan is facing something similar.
It seems that they have recently come under a cyberattack, leaving their services down. While there has been a breach, there has been no official news of any data leak or financial loss. The threat is currently under investigation and there ought to be some results on display. This event certainly has everyone worried about the safety of their accounts and credentials.
NBP has reported a cyber security related incident which is being investigated. NBP has not observed any data breach or financial loss. No other bank has reported any such incidence. SBP is monitoring the situation closely to ensure safety and soundness of banking system.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the cyberattack took place in the late hours of 29th October. There was a security breach on the servers and there was an attempt to further exploit the system. However, according to the SBP, no data has been breached so far. There has also been no monetary loss as of yet. They are not sure what the perpetrators could be going for, next, but currently, it is all safe.
Additionally, no other bank has reported such an incident which means the attack is not widespread. While the attack does seem to be quite premeditated, there have been no further actions from the perpetrators. If there was, we might have heard something more now. Due to the attack, customers services of the National Bank of Pakistan have been disrupted. They are confident that the services are going to be restored by Monday Morning.
A recent study suggests that the coronavirus can infect cells of the inner ear. The prevalence of auditory symptoms in Covid-19 patients is unknown. However, the infection of the inner ears may be responsible for hearing and balance problems.
Many Covid-19 patients have reported symptoms affecting the ears, including hearing loss and tinnitus. Dizziness and balance problems can also occur, suggesting that the SARS-CoV-2 virus may be able to infect the inner ear.
Ear Infection Due To Covid
A new study from MIT and Massachusetts Eye and Ear provides evidence that the virus can indeed infect cells of the inner ear, including hair cells. Both of these are critical for hearing and balance.
The researchers used novel cellular models of the human inner ear and hard-to-obtain adult human inner ear tissue for their studies. The limited availability of such tissue has hindered previous studies of Covid-19 and other viruses that can cause hearing loss.
“Having the models is the first step, and this work opens a path now for working with not only SARS-CoV-2 but also other viruses that affect hearing,” says Lee Gehrke. The Hermann L.F. von Helmholtz Professor in MIT’s Institute for Medical Engineering and Science co-led the study.

Possible routes for the virus to enter the ears include the Eustachian tube, which connects the nose to the middle ear. The virus may also be able to escape from the nose through small openings surrounding the olfactory nerves. That would allow it to enter the brain space and infect cranial nerves, including the one that connects to the inner ear.
Study Report
The pattern of infection appears to correspond to the symptoms observed in a group of 10 Covid-19 patients who reported ear-related symptoms following their condition. Nine of these patients suffered from tinnitus, six experienced vertigo, and all had mild to profound hearing loss.
All of the six Covid-19 patients in the study had reduced or absent otoacoustic emissions, suggesting hearing loss.
This study strongly suggests that Covid-19 can cause auditory and balance problems.

“Initially this was because routine testing was not readily available for patients who were diagnosed with Covid. Patients with more life-threatening complications weren’t paying much attention to whether their hearing was reduced or whether they had tinnitus,” Stankovic says.

Officials said the Sindh government had approved Rs145 million to the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) for conducting 50 liver transplants free of charge in the current fiscal year.
Liver Transplants At Dow
The Sindh government has asked Dow University to perform 50 liver transplants free of charge at its Ojha campus by the end of June 2022. The government has approved Rs145 million for the task, an official of the Sindh health department said.
Prof Saeed Quraish Vice-Chancellor DUHS said, “the health department would provide Rs145 million for 50 free of charge liver transplants by June 2022, and the university would commence these surgeries as per recommendations of the department next month.“
“So far, our team of liver transplant surgeons has performed several dozen liver transplants. Out of which 17 have been performed under the supervision of Dr Faisal Saud Dar, dean of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI), Lahore,” he added.
Prof Quraishy further said that the success rate of liver transplant surgeries at Dow University was over 95 per cent. Our team has also performed Pakistan’s first auto-transplantation of the liver. Meanwhile, the patient has been living an everyday life since the procedure.

The Criteria
As per the laid down criteria, the department would send patients to Dow University for liver transplants. Followed by a thorough assessment through medical boards.
Currently, only the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Khairpur performs liver transplant surgeries. However, now two institutes in Sindh would be conducting free of charge liver transplant surgeries in the country.

We hope that such an event does not repeat in the future. It seems that this is the first time something like this has happened on such a huge scale. It is a huge state of embarrassment and humiliation for us. Are we not to respect other people? Who gave the non-ticketed fans the right to storm the stadium like that? People don’t think before committing such acts or they would not commit them at all.
We are disappointed in these so-called ‘Fans’ and we hope the actual fans get their refund so they may be able to enjoy the next game. Who knows, after this event, many would be disheartened to not ever attend a game again.

Sleep paralysis is a medical condition that affects many people. It’s downright terrifying and takes a significant toll on your mental health. You might also know it from any horror movie or series because they usually align this medical condition with the paranormal.
What Is Sleep Paralysis?
It is a medical condition in which a person, on waking up from sleep, experiences a temporary inability to move or speak. It is also commonly accompanied by a feeling that someone or something is in the room with you or sometimes.
You actually may see or hear things (basically, hallucinate). Or, even worse, you can feel the physical sensation of experiencing pressure on your chest.

Many people have a sense of suffocating or breathlessness during sleep paralysis. This is because the muscles that help you breathe are also compromised. During an episode, the diaphragm acts as a bellows to help you inflate your lungs and blow. However, few other accessory muscles (such as the rib cage) of breathing are active.
2. You Can Have An Out Of Body Experience
The difference in the level of awareness is also considerable. Some people say that they are entirely aware of their surroundings and are in touch with all five senses. Others say that they are altogether disjointed from their bodies.
The latter has also noted that often they feel as if they are floating above their bodies or can look at their selves.
3. You Can Experience Various Types of Hallucinations

You can experience auditory, visual, or tactile hallucinations. In other words, you’ll be dreaming with your eyes wide open. It is because of this symptom of sleep paralysis that many associate this condition with something supernatural. Most, in this state, see figures or other figments of their imaginations as real.

Most people, when in the middle of an episode of sleep paralysis, report that they felt extreme emotions. Due to the hallucinations, most can feel a sense of impending death or harm and get terrified. Others feel bright flashes of light, which can make them feel overwhelmed. Some people feel extreme anger over what they see in their hallucinations.

As part of solid waste management (SWM) initiatives under TREK (Travel Responsibly for Experiencing Ecotourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), a two-day training was conducted in Chitral by Nestlé Pakistan, in partnership with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the World Bank.
TREK was unveiled in December 2020 by Prime Minister Imran Khan, as part of the World Bank-financed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development (KITE) project. TREK was also listed as one of the federal government’s key achievements of 2020.
A two-day training titled “TREK for Healthier Kids” was held in collaboration with the Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) program in August 2021. It concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony for teachers, distribution of 4,000 reusable bags, and 2,300 N4HK books to children in Galiyat. N4HK is one of Nestlé’s global Creating Shared Value initiatives that empower parents, caregivers, and educators to foster healthier eating, drinking, and lifestyle habits among school-age children.
An extensive two-day training on waste management and sustainable tourism in Swat as part of TREK’s community engagement initiatives. The training comprised of sessions on categorizing waste, importance of recycling, learning to conduct waste audits, basic food safety and importance of WASH compliance among others. The event concluded with souvenir distribution for participants by Ghulam Saeed, Director General Directorate of Tourist Services and Touseef Khalid, Project Director KITE. We have also donated 2,000 reusable bags among communities in Swat.
Under the TREK initiative, more than 130 public and private sector participants including 20 women have been trained at the three locations of Swat, Galyat and Chitral. The initiative has also engaged the local communities through training and awareness session on nutrition and hygiene for school children of Galyat.
“We are delighted that community engagement activities such as waste management training and awareness campaigns for tourists are coming to fruition, as part of TREK,” said Tashfeen Haider, Additional Secretary, Tourism Department, KP government, adding that Department of Tourism through KITE project is working on SWM cycle by providing equipment to area development authorities of Galyat, Kaghan, Chitral, Kalam and Kumrat. Moreover, contract for feasibility study and engineering design of sanitary landfill sites have been awarded through the KITE project.
Kiran Afzal, Senior Private Sector Specialist, of the World Bank shared, “KITE project is now implementing activities for tourist facilitation in Chitral which will be complemented by TREK’s initiatives for SWM.”
Talking about the initiative, Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, Nestlé in Pakistan & Afghanistan said, “Our partnership with the government on TREK, will help realise our vision for shaping a waste-free future, by driving new behavior for a cleaner environment.”
“At Nestlé, our vision is that none of our packaging, including plastics, ends up in landfills or rivers. To achieve this, we have set ourselves the commitment of ensuring 100% of our packaging is reusable or recyclable by 2025,” he added.

Nestlé Pakistan’s commitment to TREK includes 2 pillars: A massive awareness campaign focusing on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and a Community Engagement plan which includes activities that will help in countering the issues of waste, pollution, and destruction of wildlife, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, 15 and 17.

While you might not be willing to go traditional, I’m tempted to switch you to pomegranate popsicles because who says they are just for the summers? Let’s take a look at some pomegranate popsicle recipes, which you can make and enjoy at home.
1. Pomegranate And Limeade Popsicle
These aesthetically pleasing and delicious popsicles are everything you need this season. I mean, look at those frozen seeds in the popsicle. Who would not want to indulge in one?
Ingredients
1/3 cup lime juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
21/2 cup water
Onepomegranate
Instructions
Mix 1/3 cup of lime juice, 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 1/2 cups of water thoroughly until all the sugar is completely dissolved. This recipe for limeade is a bit sweeter than I like, but you need to make your popsicle base on the sweet side as it will not taste as sweet when frozen.
Add the juice to your popsicle mould, but do not fill each one. We are going to add pomegranate seeds next.
Seed 1 pomegranate.
Add the arils to the mould. You don’t want the pops to be jam-packed, but the seeds should be evenly dispersed throughout.
Freeze for at least 7 to 10 hours as you want these pops to be rock hard. The pomegranate seeds will slightly compromise the pop structure, so they must be frozen solid to prevent breakage.

2. Three-Ingredient Pomegranate Popsicles
Here is a simple three-ingredient recipe of mind-blowing popsicles to cool down yourself. The recipe will take only ten minutes but will make you wanting for more.
Ingredients
2 tsp Sugar
1/2 cup Water
Instructions
De-seed the pomegranate and take the seeds in a mixer grinder jar. Leave a few seeds for later. Squeeze half a lemon juice and add sugar as per taste.
Add water and blitz until it becomes juicy.
Strain the juice with a strainer and taste it. If required, add sugar or lemon juice.
Prepare the moulds by adding a few pomegranate seeds in each mould.
Pour the pomegranate juice into popsicles moulds.
Place a pop stick in the centre and refrigerate it for a few hours.
Once frozen, remove the pomegranate pops from mould and serve chilled.
What could be better than an icy-cold Pomegranate Popsicle made with 100% juice for a healthy, superfood treat with no added sugar? This healthy treat is perfect for kids and adults.
Ingredients
2 cups 100% pomegranate juice
2 tablespoons freshly-squeezed lime juice (from about one medium lime)
Instructions
Combine the pomegranate juice and lime juice into a pitcher. Stir the liquid.
Divide the pomegranate juice evenly into approximately six popsicles moulds.
Freeze them for about 4 hours before removing them from the moulds and serving cold.

4. Pomegranate-Yogurt Ice Pops
This is a colourful treat perfect for children and their parties. The combination of creamy yoghurt and sweet/sour pomegranate is wonderful yet healthy.
Ingredients
2/3 cup pomegranate juice
2/3 cup yoghurt
One tablespoon honey
One vanilla bean
Seeds from 1 pomegranate
Instructions
Pour equal amounts of pomegranate juice into 1/4 cup ice pop moulds, filling each one halfway. Freeze for 1 hour, or until the liquid is beginning to harden but is not entirely frozen.
In a bowl, combine the yoghurt and honey. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into the bowl. Stir to combine.
Remove the moulds from the freezer, push in the sticks, and top up with the yoghurt mixture. To get a marbled effect, stir the pomegranate and the yoghurt together briefly. Finish with a sprinkling of seeds. Return to the freezer for several hours or until completely frozen.
Last but definitely not least, we have for you the Pomegranate Coconut Water Popsicles.
Ingredients
4 tbsp pomegranate seeds
250 ml coconut water
Instructions
Place one tablespoon of pomegranate seeds into the bottom of each popsicle mould and then fill to the top with coconut water.
Place in the freezer for about an hour or until the coconut water has started to freeze. Remove the mould from the freezer and, using a knife, stir the coconut water and pomegranate seeds. The seeds should have naturally sunk to the bottom, but by sirring everything now when the coconut water has become more solid, you should be able to disperse them throughout the whole popsicle. Pop the lid back on the popsicle mould and insert the wooden stick.
Return to the freezer for another 2-3 hours or overnight.
