We did not even notice and wireless technology began to take over. Just a few decades back, we were using phones with cords attached. We have entered the era of ‘True Wireless’ where people experience quite a few new things. The AirPod devices by Apple have never disappointed in the past. While they are quite premium in their price, they are the same with their sound. You would want to be using such a device.

That being said, the AirPods 3 were announced just a while back. Let us check out if they are the better option to opt for, or their predecessors. AirPods 2 aren’t any less in their capability but there are bound to be some differences.

If we look at just the price of the two devices, we might already have a winner in this area. Due to the release of the AirPods 3, the AirPods 2 have dropped their price down to $129. The newer ones are currently priced at $249. This shows quite a lot of difference between the two so the predecessors take the cake here.

Secondly, if we look at battery life, Pods 2 offer about 24 hours of total charge time. This includes the case charging as well. However, with Pods 3, you get a tremendous battery life, a total of 30 hours. That is 6 hours more than the predecessor. This means that your usage of a single day is guaranteed, with a few hours above. Pods 3, clearly, are victorious in this case.

In terms of design, the AirPods 3 have shorter stems, making them less conspicuous when worn. Additionally, they nestle inside the ears with a better grip and are more sweat resistant. Apart from that, music controls on the Pods 3 are more versatile. They require you to press the stem for features like ‘Play’, ‘Pause’, ‘Skip’, etc. The Pods 3 take the cake here too!

The AirPods 3 have an adaptive EQ, allowing for better sound quality for your ears. They will adjust sound in such a way that you will feel immersed in your environment. If you turn your head, it will be like the sound is coming from behind you, rather than from the front or the sides. However, both the Pods use the same H1 chip, so there is no difference here. It seems that the AirPods 3 have won yet another round here.

“I CAN-CER VIVE” A Breast Cancer Awareness Event By Sehat Kahani At British High Commission

Breast Cancer is a deadly disease that can result in untimely death if not diagnosed on time. In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685,000 deaths globally. In Asia, Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia.

At some stage of life, 1 in 9 Pakistani women become patients of breast cancer.
Today Sehat Kahani which is a Leading Telemedicine platform of Pakistan conducted I CAN-CER VIVE, an event to honour breast cancer survivors and raise awareness about Breast Cancer at the British High Commission.

The event was graced by the Health Minister Sindh-Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Ex-secretary health, Dr. Fazallulah Pechuho and Mike Nithavrianakis-The Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi.

Mike opened the event and talked about the important role that doctors have to play in the early screening and diagnosis of Breast Cancer. He appreciated Sehat Kahani’s effort in playing a role to increase awareness through its telemedicine platform.

Dr. Sara Saeed Khurram, CEO Sehat Kahani emphasised that Sehat Kahani’s vision is to provide quality and affordable healthcare to patients using its telemedicine solution across Pakistan. Treating more than half a million patients to date, all over Pakistan, Sehat Kahani will expand its services to include breast cancer awareness screening programs, training of doctors and nurses to diagnose early signs, and facilitating breast cancer specialist consultations at subsidised cost on all its platform.

The event honoured 5 breast cancer survivors highlighting their struggle through a video documentary and presenting them a token of resilience.

The event also hosted a panel of renowned doctors, Dr. Naila Zahid -leading Consultant Oncologist at Liaquat National Hospital, Dr. Kausar Rehman-Consultant Breast Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at South City Hospital and Sanaa Ahmed -mental health expert represents the Mental Healthcare portfolio for British Asian Trust in Pakistan.The panel was moderated by Dr.Iffat Zafar Aga,COO Sehat Kahani .The panelists discussed the importance of fighting the disease with the body and mind. They encouraged women to reach a doctor immediately in case they find any signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer.

The Chief guest Dr.Azra Fazal Pechuho, in her Keynote, emphasised on the importance of technology playing an important role in the early diagnosis and cure of disease. She also mentioned that the bill for telemedicine has been passed from the assembly so that companies such as Sehat Kahani can play their role in helping more patients.

The phenomenon of Brand Wars always incites excitement regardless of where it happens. The parent company, Facebook rebranded itself as Meta. Twitter trolled it. The engagement on the tweet was iconic. Another instance would be when Facebook malfunctioned and brands had a field day with it. In a similar event, but on a different medium, the brand wars happen slightly differently.

Brand Wars albeit rarely but happen on out-of-home (OOH) advertising mediums as well. Internationally, these brands even hint at each other in a subtle but not so subtle way and then entire conversations ensue. At other times, brands place their promotional material (billboards or signs) near their competitor’s outlets reading to quite a debate.

In Pakistan, it is a phenomenon triggered rarely because of the consequences. Not too long ago, the Diamon Supreme and Master Molty Foam took their fight to legal avenues based on advertising banter. It could be because of this that people tend to avoid getting into debates.

In recent news, the brand wars got their recent installment in the shape of Starlet and Bata; the former posted a billboard above the outlet of Bata. The visuals show a man stepping with the sneakers on. And as obvious, it implies that the man is stepping on Bata.

Imagine the detrimental effects of it on the outlet because the image in the potential consumers’ minds would be that of Starlet whenever they think of Bata.

IPPA Awards Removes Fatima Hasan As ‘Host’ For Wearing A Revealing Dress

Model Fatima Hasan took to her Instagram stories to vent her frustration after she was told she could not host the red carpet of IPPA Awards. The reason given was that her dress is too revealing to be aired on a local Pakistani TV channel.

The medium of television

The world of fashion has many different parameters than the real world. However, whenever there is a crossover, both worlds have to bend their rules a bit to accommodate the other. Taking Pakistani TV channels for instance, when you see the wardrobe of actresses in dramas, it is vastly different from what we see on their Instagram, and that is how they compromise because they know what the TV medium would allow them and what it will not forgive. It turns out that IPPA Awards had a similar run-in of fashion with TV.

But when you are at an award show, especially one being held abroad, you are representing Pakistan, what then should be your attire?

Why That’s Problematic

2% of Elon Musk’s wealth makes 6 billion dollars. World hunger is a mammoth issue spanning all the continents and hundreds of countries and billions of people. Is 6 billion all that is needed to fix it? It sounds unbelievable and that’s why Elon Musk stepped up. He responded to this report and called for facts. He made a huge offer saying that if World Food Programme can detail exactly on the same Twitter thread how $6 billion will solve world hunger, he will do something unbelievable.

Elon Musk has offered to sell Tesla within the same minute to give WFP $6 billion if it solves world hunger. Moreover, the condition he gave is that it has to be open-source accounting— the public should see exactly where and how the money is spent.

Another famous personality also pointed out how in 2020, the UN World Food Programme received $8.4 billion. How come world hunger wasn’t solved then? The WFP has been totalling mammoth amounts of funds since its inception yet world hunger keeps growing day by day. Does this have to do with non-transparent usage of funds?

NBP Assures Consumers Of Financial Data Security After Cyberattack

[Update: November 1st, 2021]: After the news went viral that the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) had suffered a cyberattack, consumers were in a frenzy about their financial data. Just 12 hours ago, NBP issued a statement through their social media platform that the data has not been compromised.

“NBP assures its customers that their financial data has not been compromised and has remained protected, confidential, and secured,” the Bank said.

They further updated that the bank has already countered the threat posed by the cyberattack and repaired the affected parts of the system. Moreover, NBP also mentioned in the statement that the disbursements of salaries will also be possible by November 1st, 2021.

They will be assisting the consumers with no discontinuance whatsoever.

[October 31st, 2021]: The age of technology is evolving at such a pace, we find ourselves often surprised. Where there is development in the positive direction, there is one in the negative as well. Ever since the cyber world became a reality, cyber security became just as essential. Hackers and Exploiters can appear out of nowhere, anywhere on the internet. Where there is a virtual presence, there is always a risk of a cyberattack. Despite there being some measures in place, some can always find a way to fool the system. The National Bank of Pakistan is facing something similar.

It seems that they have recently come under a cyberattack, leaving their services down. While there has been a breach, there has been no official news of any data leak or financial loss. The threat is currently under investigation and there ought to be some results on display. This event certainly has everyone worried about the safety of their accounts and credentials.

 

National Bank and Attack

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the cyberattack took place in the late hours of 29th October. There was a security breach on the servers and there was an attempt to further exploit the system. However, according to the SBP, no data has been breached so far. There has also been no monetary loss as of yet. They are not sure what the perpetrators could be going for, next, but currently, it is all safe.

Additionally, no other bank has reported such an incident which means the attack is not widespread. While the attack does seem to be quite premeditated, there have been no further actions from the perpetrators. If there was, we might have heard something more now. Due to the attack, customers services of the National Bank of Pakistan have been disrupted. They are confident that the services are going to be restored by Monday Morning.

A recent study suggests that the coronavirus can infect cells of the inner ear. The prevalence of auditory symptoms in Covid-19 patients is unknown. However, the infection of the inner ears may be responsible for hearing and balance problems.

Many Covid-19 patients have reported symptoms affecting the ears, including hearing loss and tinnitus. Dizziness and balance problems can also occur, suggesting that the SARS-CoV-2 virus may be able to infect the inner ear.

Ear Infection Due To Covid

A new study from MIT and Massachusetts Eye and Ear provides evidence that the virus can indeed infect cells of the inner ear, including hair cells. Both of these are critical for hearing and balance.

The researchers used novel cellular models of the human inner ear and hard-to-obtain adult human inner ear tissue for their studies. The limited availability of such tissue has hindered previous studies of Covid-19 and other viruses that can cause hearing loss.

“Having the models is the first step, and this work opens a path now for working with not only SARS-CoV-2 but also other viruses that affect hearing,” says Lee Gehrke. The Hermann L.F. von Helmholtz Professor in MIT’s Institute for Medical Engineering and Science co-led the study.

Route Of Entry

Possible routes for the virus to enter the ears include the Eustachian tube, which connects the nose to the middle ear. The virus may also be able to escape from the nose through small openings surrounding the olfactory nerves. That would allow it to enter the brain space and infect cranial nerves, including the one that connects to the inner ear.

Study Report

The pattern of infection appears to correspond to the symptoms observed in a group of 10 Covid-19 patients who reported ear-related symptoms following their condition. Nine of these patients suffered from tinnitus, six experienced vertigo, and all had mild to profound hearing loss.

All of the six Covid-19 patients in the study had reduced or absent otoacoustic emissions, suggesting hearing loss.

This study strongly suggests that Covid-19 can cause auditory and balance problems.

“Initially this was because routine testing was not readily available for patients who were diagnosed with Covid. Patients with more life-threatening complications weren’t paying much attention to whether their hearing was reduced or whether they had tinnitus,” Stankovic says.

“We still don’t know what the incidence is. However, our findings really call for increased attention to audiovestibular symptoms in people with Covid exposure.”

Officials said the Sindh government had approved Rs145 million to the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) for conducting 50 liver transplants free of charge in the current fiscal year.

Prof Saeed Quraish Vice-Chancellor DUHS said, “the health department would provide Rs145 million for 50 free of charge liver transplants by June 2022, and the university would commence these surgeries as per recommendations of the department next month.“
“So far, our team of liver transplant surgeons has performed several dozen liver transplants. Out of which 17 have been performed under the supervision of Dr Faisal Saud Dar, dean of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI), Lahore,” he added.

Prof Quraishy further said that the success rate of liver transplant surgeries at Dow University was over 95 per cent. Our team has also performed Pakistan’s first auto-transplantation of the liver. Meanwhile, the patient has been living an everyday life since the procedure.

“Our team of liver transplant surgeons consists of the lead surgeon Dr Jahanzeb Haider, Dr Kiran Naz, Dr Muhammad Iqbal and three others. The team is highly trained in performing liver transplant surgeries with utmost sophistication.”

The DUHS resumed its liver transplant program in 2019. At that time, they approached Pakistan’s leading liver transplant surgeon, Dr Faisal Saud Dar, to supervise the complicated surgeries. So far, the surgeons have done 17 liver transplants at the Ojha campus of the medical varsity.

The Criteria 

As per the laid down criteria, the department would send patients to Dow University for liver transplants. Followed by a thorough assessment through medical boards.

Currently, only the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Khairpur performs liver transplant surgeries. However, now two institutes in Sindh would be conducting free of charge liver transplant surgeries in the country.

According to experts, around 8,000 patients need liver transplant surgeries due to liver failure or liver cancer annually in Pakistan. However, most of these patients can’t afford the costly treatment.

Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, the provincial government’s spokesperson, tweeted: “This is the first such intervention at a public sector hospital in Pakistan.”

“This painless technology is known worldwide for treatment of tumours.”

In the most recent T20 match that took place between Pakistan and Afghanistan, quite a lot of impressive plays were seen. However, we were not aware of what was happening outside the stadium. If we tell you, you will understand exactly how much chaos was unfolding when the match was taking place. More than 20,000 fans managed to storm the stadium and make their way inside. These fans were carrying no tickets and they stormed the stadium. Due to this, the fans who actually had the tickets were locked out!

Who is going to be held responsible for this level of negligence? Not just that, the fans stuck outside were then subjected to discomfort through police horses and riot gears. Imagine buying a ticket just to watch the game with your loved one or your friends. Then, imagine being stripped away of that opportunity because unticketed people storm the stadium in a desperate attempt to watch the match. These people have no regard for laws, rules and they ruin the experience for everyone else as well
