iPhone Spyware Found Unethically Stealing Personal User Data

iPhone

Spyware software is now targeting iPhone owners. Security researchers have discovered a very powerful surveillance application originally designed for Android can now also target iOS users.

The application was found by the researchers at mobile security firm Lookout. According to them, the developer of the application had abused the policies and Apple-issued enterprise certificates in order to infect unsuspecting victims.

Once installed, the spyware can steal valuable data from the user’s device including a victim’s contacts, audio recordings, photos, videos and other device information — including their real-time location data.

Researchers also found that when remotely triggered, it can listen in on telephonic conversations. However, no such data was found to understand which victims were targeted.

Fake iPhone Scam Minted Nearly $900,000 from Apple!

One thing that the firm did note was that the malicious app was served from fake sites purporting to be cell carriers in Italy and Turkmenistan reports TechCrunch. The application is supposedly linked to an Android application (Exodus) which was previously found doing the same on the Android platform. The same Italian surveillance app maker Connexxa.

Reportedly, the iOS application used several techniques such as certificate pinning. “This is one of the indicators that a professional group was responsible for the software,” Adam Bauer, Lookout’s senior staff security intelligence engineer, told TechCrunch.

Apple says that’s a violation of its rules, which prohibits these certificates designed to be used strictly for internal apps to be pushed to consumers. As of now, researchers are unsure of how many Apple users were affected.

Connexxa did not respond to a request for comment. Apple did not comment.

The CM had even called DIG Traffic and Commissioner Karachi to complain about how these showrooms are illegally using the roads and service lanes for personal use.

These roads are important in terms of traffic flow and how they dare to park their vehicle on them, – the chief minister questioned

He also then took the DIG with him to several locations to show him how the owners were marketing their vehicles by making it difficult for passengers who are traveling using those roads.

The DIG was directed to start the operation on the spot and report back to the CM directly. He also directed Commissioner Karachi to call all the Municipal Commissioner of DMCs to have the areas cleaned up properly.

Garbage is lying along the roads and the DMCs seems to be in slumber – CM Sindh

CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah also visited the two underpasses which are under construction at Shahrah-e-Quaidin at Tariq Road and Khalid Bin Waleed Road Interchanges to take an update of the progress.

He asserted that his wife is indeed a blessing for him from Almighty Allah. He vowed to remain with her together till his last breath.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan delivered a speech in Islamabad to celebrate the completion of Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) government in the first 100 days in November 2018

Addressing a large gathering at the Convention Centre, Khan narrated the achievements of the government in power, aimed to set the foundation for a “Naya Pakistan”

Imran Khan’s Wife Bushra Manika is Getting Trolled for all the Wrong Reasons

He was thrilled to give the credit of PTI’s success in the 100 days of office to his wife, Bushra Maneka.

imran khan

With deep pride in his eyes, PM revealed to the world how Bushra Bibi supported him in all these past months.

“In the 100 days, I want to give credit to Bushra Begum. In these 100 days I took one day off and want to praise her for such a difficult life during the last 100 days”

Imran Khan stated that Bushra Bibi reminds him that he can easily curb injustice in Pakistan now that he is the PM.

“Even now when I am at home and watching television with Bushra Begum, and I react to a report – ‘This is injustice’; she reminds me that now you are the prime minister.”

The crowd roared with the laughter as he further added:

“After being in opposition for 22 years, I still have to remind myself that I am the prime minister.”

This was for the first time Imran Khan spoke about Bushra Bibi on live television.

In September, the first lady gave an interview to Nadeem Malik on HUM News and spoke very softy about the Prime Minister and his lifestyle:

“KHAN SAHAB IS A VERY SIMPLE AND FAIR PERSON WHO HAS NO GREED FOR ANYTHING AT ALL. HE IS NOT USED TO THIS LIFE. HE HAS ALWAYS LIVED IN A BIG HOUSE BUT NOW HE IS LIVING THIS LIFE AND HAS ADJUSTED IN NO TIME AT ALL.”

She also urged for the nation to be patient and work together to make the revolution possible

“IMRAN WILL CHANGE THE FATE OF PAKISTAN, HE IS WORKING HARD FOR THE PAKISTANI NATION ALTHOUGH IT TAKES TIME FOR THESE THINGS TO HAPPEN.”

Kaisa Hai Naseeban Full Drama Review: A Revolt Against Society

Kaisa hai Naseeban Drama Review
*Disclaimer: The views, thoughts, and opinions represented in the article solely belong to the author and don’t represent the opinions of Brandsynario.com

What stood out in the 26-episode-long, ARY-produced ‘Kaisa Hai Naseeban’ was the heart-wrenching monologue delivered by Waseem Abbas (who played the role of Jamal, father of our protagonist Maryam) in the last episode.

Still in shock over what fate had in store for his eldest daughter, Jamal questioned why our society allows a man to live under the misconception that he owns his wife. The simple scene is moving solely because in the last episode we saw Ahmed (Maryam’s husband) mentally abusing her wife only because she was still in his Nikkah.

On the surface, Kaisa Hai Naseeban has a straight forward message: stop marital abuse. But the drama is much more than that. It shows how emotions affect parents’ decision and how for the sake of their daughter’s happiness parents tackle all challenges with a smile on their face.

The drama started with Jamal’s sister bringing her only son’s proposal for Maryam. This was the point that the show beautifully portrayed. The ‘phuppo’ lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and maintains that she is financially stable over there. She talks about owning chains of restaurants and portrays as if she is living the dream life.

Even though Jamal’s wife (Shahana) is a bit skeptical (as her sister had also asked for Maryam’s hand in her son’s marriage), Jamal thinks that her daughter will lead a peaceful life.

Later, it was found out that it was a facade. The ‘phuppo’ was living in a three-bedroom apartment in the city. She neither had domestic workers in her house nor she had enough money to employ one.

A post shared by Entertainment popcorn (@entertainment.popcorn) on

Kudos to the creator for highlighting the issue which is so common in our country. That many girls want to settle abroad after marriage is a fact. This wasn’t an exaggeration. That Maryam’s parents thought that she will be happier in her ‘phuppo’s house is even truer. When it comes to relatives who live abroad, it is simply their words.

If they are saying that they have an x amount of money or that they are living in the city’s posh area, you are bound to nod your head. How is a family going to find out whether they are lying? You cannot just book a ticket and go to another country to check out their living conditions on your own.

There are many examples of girls who went abroad thinking that they will have a decent life there only to find out that their in-laws got nothing. And it is not only money that motivates girls or their parents to say yes to marriage. We generally think, and rightly so, that life abroad is not as filled with challenges as it is here in Pakistan.

Kaisa hai Naseeban Drama

Having said this, the drama didn’t preach that you shouldn’t marry off your daughter to someone from abroad. It emphasized the importance of running a background check on every person who has come to seek your daughter’s hand in marriage, regardless of how close he or she is to your family.

But it wasn’t the lack of money that broke down Maryam’s spirits. Her life fell apart the first time she was slapped by her husband whom she loved and trusted. Truth be told, I am one of the people who initially considered Maryam a weak character. I was mad at her for being a doormat. But then I tried to dig deep into what the show wanted to show.

We have a character who has been out of the country for the first time. All her life, she lived a sheltered life under the support and love of her father. It was difficult for her to make sense of the betrayal and to act accordingly. And there were many things that stopped her. We are living in a society where divorce is considered a taboo.

Women try to make their marriages work until the very end. They suffer in silence thinking that things will get matter. While Maryam’s fears and inhibitions were beautifully shown, it would have been better had they shown how Maryam fought against them and returned to Pakistan by herself.

A post shared by Suno Chanda 2 (@suno_chandaseason2) on

By showing her miscarriage (or as they call it, the murder of her child), the creators turned Maryam into a weaker character who had to rely on her sister-in-law’s husband to finally break free.

The great tragedy which Maryam went through became the only reason for her to escape the hellhole. Since dramas hold the power to change existing mindsets, it would have been laudable had it shown how, given those circumstances, Maryam reacted to take control of her life.

But these things can be ignored. This is because this show was one of the few which didn’t show Maryam marrying someone to regain control of her life. She joined an office and built a career out of it.

All predictions of her marrying her cousin were thrown into the dustbin and a realistic ending was shown.

Industry Stakeholders Give Their Take on Pertaining Issues Leading to the Debacle of Pakistan’s Media Industry

This year Synergyzer’s 2019 Annual Edition scrutinizes the core reasons behind the dismal state of Pakistan’s ever so bourgeoning and powerful media industry.

The annual edition puts across views of various reputable stakeholders and uncovers factors lurking in the background that are contributing to the shrinking bottom-line of the media industry.

Following are the powerful views expressed by some of the top stalwarts in this regard

Javed Jabbar

“In a free market, one or two groups can become dominant. That is why we have the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), whose duty is to monitor various sectors, and if a particular sector is not being monitored, its stakeholders can appeal to the commission to take notice of the situation and give a fair verdict.”

Sabir Sami.; MD- KFC MENA, Pakistan, Turkey & Asia

“The focus in Pakistan is on buying, not on planning and strategy development”

“Clients in Pakistan do not always have a detailed understanding of media strategy and media efficiency; they just look at the cost per rating point and tend to be over simplistic, considering the job well done if they saved money on the exercise”

Ali Mandviwalla- Chairman Pakistan Advertising Association

“PAA is the sole representative body of all advertising agencies. We represent all advertising agencies including some of the media planning & buying agencies.  It’s not possible for one entity to achieve everything. That’s why I mentioned that all stakeholders:  PBA, APNS, PAA & PAS as mentioned above have to work together to tackle these challenges together above all personal interests”

 Duraid Qureshi, CEO- Hum Network

“The focus should be on implementing subscription-based models as they will have a massive impact on the overall growth of the medium”

Zulfiqar Ali Shah, CEO – Hot FM 105

“It is now time that the media bigwigs, who are otherwise more interested in safeguarding their own interests first, need to come together to assess long-term implications, formulate strategies and take pre-emptive measures, taking onboard national as well as regional operators, so that the industry is able to gear itself for the tough times ahead”

Shakeel Masood – CEO Dawn News And Chairman PBA

“Three major challenges in the industry. One, shrinking advertising spends; two, the lack of ease of doing business; and three, the rapid growth of digital media at the expense of other mediums.”

Numan Nabi, CEO – The Brand Partnership & Vice Chairman PAA

“Had those involved understood the dynamics of the system and how it works, this lopsided status quo would not exist today and all the stakeholders would have flourished even more”

Fouad Hussain- CEO GroupM

“The main reason for the bubble bursting in our industry is a poor use of resources. The media industry invested in hiring people but did not go after technical skillsets. This is a pool-based buying system; if clients are unable to spend to their potential, then how can we get the best for them?”

Qashif Effendi- CEO AtReem Rice Mills (Pvt.) Ltd, A 100% Multinational JV Of Al Ghurair UAE And Al Mohaidib KSA

“The advertising world has also seen its fair share of brain drain so the quality of ideas has also suffered immensely. With mergers and acquisitions, global media giants have created virtual monopolies. These have created the situation where 80% of the business is hogged by 20% media houses, leaving little else for smaller boutique agencies to play with. If these hegemonies were producing stellar work, one could applaud their creation. Sadly, they have done more damage than good. Allegedly, the culture of benefits traded for work has grown exponentially, which has been responsible for a lot of mediocre work seeing the light of the day”

 Raihan Merchant, CEO-ZDC

“TV audience measurement (TAM) system issue was exactly this: ratings were manipulated to please the clique. They decided that certain channels will not get the right ratings reported.”

Anonymous Media Industry Expert

“The responsible people are not raising their concerns, nor are their deeds translating into actions that can create some positive ripples in the industry and work towards its revival”

“Some TV channels took the initiative of bringing in foreign properties like Pakistan Idol, Master Chef Pakistan, however, advertisers chose not to pay due premiums merely because they have been trained to meet only the stiffest CPRP numbers”

“Clients are chasing certain KPI’s only, which are derived on currency that is hardly present or being utilized incorrectly, resulting in zero innovation. Quality GRP’s and branded AFP’s (Advertiser Funded Programs) are lowest on their agenda”

“PBA, currently, comprises of a few channels that have come together and formed a gang”

Unilever Pakistan Partners with doctHERs and DFID

Unilever Pakistan has partnered with doctHERs to implement a gender-inclusive, technology-enabled healthcare solution across rural Pakistan.

The project, titled ‘Sukh Saheli’, will use the widespread reach of Unilever’s rural retail program to deliver high-quality health and wellness services for 1 million women across rural Pakistan in 2019.

Frontline health workers will mobilize underserved communities in over 4000 villages and connect them to qualified, female doctors via telemedicine, HD video-consultation and digital, diagnostic tools.

The collaboration is being supported by TRANSFORM, a joint-initiative between Unilever and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) to support business models and behavior change interventions to deliver market-based solutions for low-income household needs.

The program brings together social enterprise agility with private sector ingenuity and commercial reach to contribute towards Pakistan’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets. Unilever has provided access to its rural retail program, called Mera Sona Goan. doctHERs will match the underutilized capacity of female doctors (working from home) to the unmet healthcare needs of rural communities.

Shazia Syed, Chairperson & CEO, Unilever Pakistan, highlighted, “I believe we must leverage the reach of Unilever’s business to positively benefit the communities we work in. With this program we will be the enablers for wellbeing, health education and inclusion for rural women across Pakistan.”

Elin Burns, the British Deputy High Commissioner, added, “It’s fantastic to see a technology savvy programme, which will use the private sector’s reach and UK aid money to help deliver healthcare facilities for women in Pakistan. I’m especially pleased that the UK’s Department for International Development and Unilever have come together with a Pakistani start-up company to deliver this initiative.”

Säbeen Fatima Haque, Executive Director, doctHERs, concluded by saying: “At doctHERs, we’re excited to collaborate with Unilever Pakistan to improve the lives of rural women. One of our shared objectives is to integrate corporates partners to further amplify the impact of this program.”
