Microsoft said Monday it signed a deal to acquire the professional social network LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in cash.
“The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world’s professionals,” Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella said.
“Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet.”
The deal is Chief Executive Satya Nadella’s recent effort to revamp Microsoft, which was pictured not long ago as something left behind by shifts in technology. It is hoped that the deal will be opening new ways for Microsoft’s Office suite along with LinkedIn, both of which have saturated their markets.
