littering in karachi

Not more than a week ago Sindh Government decided to implement a 90-day ban on littering in the city of Karachi.

An official notice was published by Nasir Abbas Soomro, Sindh Home Secretary, announcing that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was imposed.

Considering that the CM’s campaign aimed at cleaning up the city is also going on, it was a great policy.

According to the notice, the following kinds of littering are strictly not allowed and punishable by the law (The penalties range from one-month imprisonment and a 200 PKR fine to six-month imprisonment and a PKR 1,000 fine, depending on how the rules are breached.)

  • open street littering,
  • littering outside the main gates of homes,
  • littering on the road through vehicle windows,
  • open littering on beaches,
  • throwing debris of damaged structures of under-construction buildings on the roads
  • spitting paan in the open

Yesterday, September 30th 2019, the rule was violated in Clifton Block 4 at an under-construction school.

As reported by Samaa News, the construction workers were caught dumping trash and debris on the road, and one of them was subsequently arrested.

South Deputy Commissioner Syed Salahuddin Ahmed has issued warnings to shopkeepers in the district as well.

This is the last warning, next time there will be action, he said.

We hope this will give a lesson to the citizens who litter the city without a second thought.

Power Shortfall Expected in Parts of Karachi: K-Electric

load shedding karachi

Since September 29, 2019 the National Transmission and Dispatch Company’s (NTDC) 500KV Hubco-NKI line is under forced outage.

This has resulted to an unforeseen reduction of up to 250 MW in the power supply from the national grid to the K-Electric system.

In the light of rising temperatures and compounded by the insignificant power supply from 150MW wind corridor of the National Grid due to low wind factor, K-Electric is trying to be vigilant about the power shortfall and is making all possible attempts to manage it.

Of course, they are also keeping in mind the hot and humid temperatures due to which citizens might feel the absence of electricity all the more.

Here is what the spokesperson for K-Electric had to say about the situation:

“We remain in close coordination with NTDC officials to minimize the disruption resulting from the power supply situation and ensure the fastest possible resolution to this issue.

The reduced supply from the NTDC, albeit temporarily, may necessitate brief spells of load management, including in exempted areas.

We have informed our valued customers of the situation through SMS and thank them for their patience and understanding during this time. As soon as the NTDC’s maintenance work is completed, the situation with respect to power supply would be normalised across the city. We shall keep our customers informed about the developments and regret the inconvenience caused.”

We hope the news will help you stay prepared for the expected power shortfall.

Pakistani Filmmaker Leaks Mooroo’s Conversation on Wanting to “Molest a Random Girl”

The past few months were not exactly the best for Pakistani influencers be it TV star/singer Mohsin Abas Haider, Youtuber Ukhano, or cricket sensation Imam ul Haq.

Harassment, domestic violence, and cheating were recurrent themes.

Then came more political issues like that of occupied Kashmir, and influencers like Irfan Junejo came under the fire for not openly speaking up on it.

Mehwish Hayat Breaks Silence Over Not Speaking About Kashmir Issue

Over the weekend, another popular Pakistani influencer, Mooroo came under the spotlight when filmmaker Fazeelat Aslam took to her instagram account to post evidence that shows the YouTuber as a harasser.

A Pakistani YouTuber, rapper, and musician, Mooroo has found himself in the eye of social media storms earlier as well, but that was always because of opinions/statements he, himself would say or post.

This time, the evidence is from a third person in the form of screenshots.

Take a look at what social media has to say about this revelation:

While some are shocked, others already saw it coming due to his problematic ideas in the past and later he even defended his statements.

However, perhaps it is high time Mooroo understands that not everything will pass in the name of humor.

Emraan Hashmi Defends Netflix Series ‘Bard of Blood’ in Response to DG ISPR’s Tweet

Bard of Blood

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest Netflix production ‘Bard of Blood’ featuring Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has been heavily criticized for portraying Pakistan in a negative light.

The trailer of the spy thriller tells the story of an excommunicated RAW agent, Kabir Anand (Emraan Hashmi) who takes on a secret mission in Baluchistan (Pakistan) after four Indian spies are caught.

Soon after the trailer was released in August, many showed displeasure regarding the anti-Pakistan story.

DG ISPR, Asif Ghafoor also took to Twitter to criticize the plot. He tweeted:

Stay in Bollywood syndrome Shah Rukh Khan. For reality see RAW Spy Kulbhushan Jadev, Wing Comd Abhinandan and the state of Feb 27, 2019

Pakistanis are Cancelling their Netflix Subscriptions!

“You could rather promote peace & humanity by speaking against atrocities in IOJ&K and against Hindituva of Nazism obsessed RSS,” he further wrote.

Now, in a recent interview with India Today, Emraan Hashmi has finally responded to DG ISPR’s tweet.

This way, you don’t end up making any film because whenever you have content that has even remotely anything associated with anything political related to these two countries [India and Pakistan], emotions do run high

And you have to bear the brunt in this. And social media is full of this. I think that one tweet [Ghafoor’s] led to other people spewing hate.

But to put things to rest, there is no propaganda here. This is based on a book that is written by a [then] 20-year-old kid back in 2014. The political climate at that point of time was very different. There is no agenda to it. Our show is based on that book and that’s that. -Emraan Hashmi

“You can’t please everyone. You make a show of this nature, which has some kind of political relevance, and it’s going to snowball and you will have people talking. Everyone has an opinion these days,” the actor concluded.

Netflix series, Bard of Blood will feature seven episodes and will run from September 27, 2019.

#BardofBlood Proves Mehwish Hayat Correct About Misrepresentation of Pakistanis in Bollywood

Greta Thunberg Might NOT be the Youngest Nobel Peace Prize Recipient!

greta thunberg

Swedish teenager and climate activist Greta Thunberg has been very vocal when it comes to actively shaming the world leaders and air travelers over climate change.

This has won her millions of supporters, however, it just might cost her the Nobel Peace Prize.

At 16, she would be the youngest receiver of the $930,000 award won by famous personalities such as Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Carter and Mikhail Gorbachev.

She would be the first to win the prize for environmental work since past U.S. vice president Al Gore.

While she has won many admirers, her blunt criticism of those who choose to travel by air has upset some people. The accusation towards world leaders by a teenager can cause problems, also

While liberals see her as daring for telling the truth about climate change, doubters describe her as a hypocrite. She has been accused of being manipulated by her parents.

She has denied allegations that she is paid for her activism or is being “used” by anyone.

She wrote on Facebook earlier this year that “there is no one ‘behind’ me except for myself. My parents were as far from climate activists as possible before I made them aware of the situation.”

“It’s been a while (since Gore was awarded the prize in 2007) … so that would boost her chances,” Sverre Lodgaard, a deputy member of the award committee from 2003 to 2011, told Reuters.

“The problem is that the principle of ‘flight shame’ brings her chances … down. Shame is not a constructive feeling to bring about change.”

Five years ago, Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai won the award at the age of 17, but her nomination was less divisive than Greta’s.

The winner will be announced on October 11th.  If she wins, she’ll be the youngest recipient of the award.

DON’T EAT SMUGGLED SUPARI

SHAHI announces total removal of Betel Nut from its Products

With gratitude to all our patrons who have enjoyed our supari products for decades, we wish to inform that henceforth these products will have the same flavor, taste and high quality but will not contain supari. The reasons for this step are given below.

Shahi – Faysal Qureshi & Aijaz Aslam

Kya app jaantay hain kay aj kal jitni chalia Pakistan main arahe hai, sab ki sab smuggling say arahe hai?Nahe na! Liken aisa he hai. Tou chalein dein is mafia kay khilaf ham bhi Shahi ka saath aur barhayein achayi ki taraf ik shahana qadam, smuggled Chalia ko na keh kar! #SayNoToSmuggledChalia

Posted by Shahi Foods on Friday, September 27, 2019

DURING THE END OF NAWAZ SHAREEF’S tenure, the GOVERNMENT instituted certain vague changes in the law regulating the import of betel nuts. Resultantly, not a single bag of Areca nut [commonly known as betel nut, supari or chalia] has been legally imported since December 2017. In this period, Rs. 150 billion of chalia has been smuggled into the country and government has lost Rs. 44 billion in revenue through duties and taxes. It would be worthwhile mentioning that while the court has issued clarification in this matter, smuggler mafia and their facilitators are still preventing the legal import. Now that we have used up all our legally imported stock, we will not be forced to buy smuggled Supari.

Honda Pakistan Shuts Down Car Production!

Honda Pakistan

Just a couple of days ago a shocking news had come forth that Indus Motors Company is shutting down Toyota Pakistan production plants for 15 days (30th September).

Now, Honda Pakistan has also decided to shut down its manufacturing plant. Honda only had 11 working days in September and saw only 13 working days in August and 20 in July.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMCL) is in a less dire state meaning it might not have to take the same action as Toyota and Honda.

Luckily for Suzuki, the new 660CC Alto driving has sold 8,109 units sold in the last couple of months, and they have seen all working days, despite the fall in sales for WagonR.

The company has so far not observed any NPDs. We are monitoring the situation and by the end of this month we will review our production and sales outlook of July-September and future prospects of sales in coming months. -Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh, spokesperson for PSMCL

Honda has over 3,000 units unsold at its plant and network according to the latest information. The company has also laid off over 1,000 contractual employees in the past 3 months.

Toyota too has approximately 3,000 in backlog. In September, the Toyota plant was operational at less than 50% capacity.

Qandeel Baloch’s Brother Sentenced for 25 Years in Jail for Honour Killing

qandeel baloch brother

Honour killing is not an alien concept for Pakistanis. However, the concept of these murderers getting prosecuted was for sure an unfamiliar one to us.

The case of social media sensation Qandeel Baloch (late) is a classic example of how a patriarchal society gives rise to evils like misogyny which further result in horrors like honour killing.

Qandeel was strangled to death at 26 by her brother Waseem for posting sensationl content on social media and gaining immense popularity for it.

After Qandeel’s murder, she was celebrated by many like a hero, however she had not been appreciated like that when she was alive.

In a media conference organised by police in 2016, her brother Waseem admitted to his actions. And the good news is that, today, a court in the eastern city of Multan found Muhammad Waseem guilty of the murder and sentenced him to imprisonment for 25 years.

Although it is late and many think 25 years of imprisonment is too less, however this news is being celebrated all over social media because at least some justice is served.

Take a look:

However, Waseem’s lawyer has said that he would file an appeal against the verdict.

Let’s see if the court reconsiders its verdict in the future.
