Cambridge International has canceled all examinations to be held in Pakistan during May/June this year amidst the global coronavirus pandemic. In order to curb the spread of the virus, social distancing has been urged by health officials worldwide.

The decision comes after the Pakistani government requested the examination board to postpone the exams earlier this week after the number of people infected with the virus has seen a rapid increase in the country.

Earlier this week it had been decided by Cambridge that examinations would be canceled unto May 30th and continue after June, 1st however, it has now been decided that all examinations for May/June would be canceled this year due to the severity caused by COVID-19.

In the latest statement issued by the Cambridge International, they mention that schools can withdraw their candidates from the May/June 2020 exams and re-enter them for future exams in Oct/Nov.

The schools have been given time for making a decision until 10th April and notifying the British Council of their decision. The same policy stands for students all over the world. Cambridge International added that students and their safety remain their top priority and they will continue supporting their education during these challenging times.

Uzma Yousaf, Cambridge International Country Director stated:

“I feel for students, families and schools at this very uncertain time, an anxiety shared by most in Pakistan, and indeed the wider world in the face of this unprecedented public health crisis.”

Amir Ramzan, Country Director Pakistan, British Council, said:

“We are so very sorry that these exams have had to be cancelled. We can only sympathise with all the students and their teachers in Pakistan who have been working so hard towards this goal. We know what a huge disappointment this must be, and can assure you that we are working hard to offer as much support as we can in these challenging times”

EBM Announces They’re Moving Off The Airwaves To Help Those Affected By COVID-19

Source: Logo Designer

The pandemic that has engulfed the world in chaos has infected over 350,000 people globally. During the coronavirus, it has been difficult for marketeers to get their brand across to consumers.

While some campaigns have been called out to be too insensitive, others have been deemed problematic for the ongoing situation, it is great to see the Pakistani brand, English Biscuit Manufacturers (EBM) breaking through from the clutter and making its mark impressively.

Source: EBM

The confectionery brand has recently announced that they would be moving off the airwaves in order to help and reach out to victims and those affected by COVID-19. The statement EBM has posted says:

“We’re here to nourish resilience”.

It indeed is the need of the hour, at a time when the country needs immense support from its local brands. This means you would not be seeing your favourite biscuits on your television screens for a while, since the brand is redirecting those budgets to help out Pakistan during its fight against COVID-19.

EBM mentions it will be heading into people’s lives, in the camps, clinics, isolation centres and wherever the community wants them to be.

The statement further reads:

“Whether we do that by distributing biscuits or by allocating rations, we’re doing our part to help ease the situation by redirecting and repurposing our advertising budget towards COVID-19 relief and response efforts.”

Here’s what they posted on social media networks!

The initiative by EBM has been met with great appreciation by the public for the efforts the brand is making by showing its social responsibility. The company has shown that they stand steadfast with Pakistan through this crisis and will work with the government to send relief wherever needed.

This is indeed a great initiative and hopefully other local brands will learn a lesson or two from EBM on fulfilling social responsibility to the society.

What do you think of EBM’s latest announcement? Let us know in the comments below.

Hira & Mani Disappoint Their Fans For Posting This Picture Amid COVID-19

Source: Hira Mani/Instagram

If there’s one person who has the ability to land themselves in uncharted waters just by what saying things or doing some unknowingly, it’s none other than Hira Mani.

Just last week, Hira Mani made some inappropriate statements while roaming the US.  She called Americans phatoos (cowards) for practicing self-isolation and she was slammed for that certain move.

The Meray Paas Tum Ho actress is under fire again for a particular post.

Hira took to Instagram to share the announcement that she has tested for COVID-19 and the results came back negative in typical Hira fashion – she shared a picture cuddling up to husband Salman Saqib, both of them wearing surgical masks. “Stay home and be safe,” she wrote.

After that, it wasn’t long before social media took notice and schooled the actress on the precise meaning and point of self-isolation.

One user stated that Hira Mani never misses a chance to seek attention from the public

One user asked the actress that what exactly does she want from life?

People also began to question her sanity

Source/ Instagram

While celebs like Shahzad Roy, Mahira Khan and Ahmed Ali Butt are vocal about staying indoors and staying safe – actors like Hira Mani are entirely negating the entire point of COVID 19.

With over 800 cases of the deadly virus in Pakistan, it’s high time our celebs speak up and spread hope amongst the masses.

What do you all think about Hira Mani’s latest post? Does this make any sense to you?

23rd March: The History Behind Pakistan Resolution Day

pakistan-day-lead

Let’s celebrate the day with enthusiasm and fervour as we have been commemorating the since the time ‘The Lahore Resolution’ was passed by the working committee of All India Muslim League; the endorsement of the same was done by the mammoth congregation of Muslims on March 23rd, 1940 who were gathered there from all across the British India.

Lahore Resolution 1940: The Father Document

The Lahore Resolution [now Pakistan Resolution], actually, expressed the idea of the state of Pakistan. It is only text that was discussed and agreed by the leaders of all corners of Indian sub-continent under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is the only document that can be referred as the “father document” of Pakistan.

Pakistan Resolution

It has the same significance in the lives of our every citizen as United States Declaration of Independence 1776 has in the lives of every American.

United States Declaration of Independence gets published on July 04th every year in almost all the major dailies of the US but the Lahore Resolution has never been published on March 23rd in any of the major Pakistani newspaper. Therefore, many Pakistanis are not aware of what was actually proposed in the Lahore Resolution.

Gul Ahmed, Junaid Jamshed, Origins & Daraz.pk: Pakistan Day 2016 Sales & Discounts

Here, brandsynario.com is producing the text as it is in its entirety for the people who haven’t seen it even though it is carved out prominently on ‘Minar-e-Pakistan’- the most important national monument of the country, built exactly where the historic resolution was passed in 1940.

minar-e- pakistan

Interestingly, The Lahore Resolution did not use the name “Pakistan” in the text and it did not link up the demand with Islam.

Listen to Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan Resolution Day Speech below:

[dailymotion id=”xcvpid”]

Historic Significance of Pakistan Resolution

Pakistan Resolution, as it is called now, is a brief but a comprehensive declaration consisting of five paragraphs. The initial two paragraphs lay out the context for the next paragraphs.

Paragraph three essentially proposes the creation of “independent states” in Muslim majority areas of Indian sub-continent  under the British Raj, and paragraph four instructs that the constitutional “safeguards” should be enacted to protect the minorities in these “regions” as well the Muslims who are a minority “in other parts of India”. Paragraph five tasks the working committee to start working on a “scheme of constitution” for all the proposed “regions (states)”.

Pak Resolution

  1. The Resolution addressed the Muslim question in the political and constitutional context of British India and pointed out to the course of action, the Muslim League intended to adopt to secure the Muslim identity, rights and interests.
  2. It underlined the principles that were relevant to the modern state system and the political context of British India. It made five specific demands [Please go through the original text of the resolution available in the article].
  3. The Resolution consequently offered a new course of action for the Muslims of British India as compared to the Muslim League position adopted on constitutional and political issues in the past. It gave rise to the change in strategy but not in goal, which remained the same.
  4. The All India Muslim League’s goal since its inception in December 1906 was to protect and advance Muslim socio-cultural identity, rights and interests in British India’s socio-political and constitutional context.

The change of strategy was caused by the political experience of the Muslim elite in their interaction with other communities, especially the Indian National Congress, and the policies of the British government. These strategies also manifested the growing desire of the Muslims to assert their separate socio-political identity.

Founder fathers and Muslim League leaders after a dinner party 1940
Founder fathers and Muslim League leaders after a dinner party 1940

The Muslim League demands became more specific and assertive in the post-1940 period. By 1942, the focus of the Muslim League shifted to a singular phrase of the state. In September 1944, Quaid-e-Azam was very categorical in asserting that he was talking of one state of Pakistan.

pakistan-resolution-23-march-1940

This issue was finally clarified by the convention of parliamentarians from majority regions in the United India held in Delhi, in April 1946. The evolutionary process of the creation of Pakistan began before March 1940 and ended with the attainment of independence in Pakistan in 1947.

Quaid-e-Azam arriving for the adoption of the Pakistan Resolution – 1940

Today, Pakistan is not a dream it has carved into a reality! Once a strategy, it then became the only destiny for over 200 million people.

On this day, let’s find out what actually was proposed in the Pakistan Resolution, let’s revisit the document in today’s circumstances and rethink; have we done enough to achieve what was envisioned by our founding fathers for people living in Pakistan?

Iman Ali MS
Source: Very Filmi

Superstar Iman Ali may have been away from the screens for a long time but she is back with a bang after recently being seen on a talk show “Say It All” hosted by fellow model Iffat Omar.

She spoke about her late father, how she began her modelling career and then entered the film and drama industry. Iman Ali also mentioned the struggles and obstacles she had to cross during her career.

A post shared by Iffat Omar (@iffatomarofficial) on

The supermodel turned actress Iman Ali surely has caught unwanted attention from social media users after some of the controversial remarks she made on the talk show.

On talking about the comparison of yesteryear’s modeling industry from the present, Iman Ali mentions,

“I mean i am still Higher paid than alot of models who are working today”

She further commented on the models in the industry today and added that,

“Before models were intelligent, nowadays anyone can be one. I’m not being an elitist but also the way that they speak, Their Basic General Knowledge is just not so…”

Wow! Talk about a no-filter approach by the diva!

Iman also claims that she has been offered 90% of the films that have been made in Pakistan but she has refused them all saying she does not like any of the scripts at all!

Keeping Lollywood aside, the supermodel adds that she also received an offer from SRK for the role in Races that was later played by Mahira Khan after Iman refused the role. Ahan! So it seems like no script is good enough for the star!

She also believes she has a very good grasp on Urdu speaking, infact much better than the rest. She feels that she has not been appreciated for the versatility she has played and even called out to the public for hating on her roles!

Later on, during the talk-show, there was a segment where Iffat showed her pictures of different celebrities and asked what they would be if not actors.

Iffat showed her a picture of Fawad Khan on which Iman Ali said:

“He was a rockstar and he was not very good at it, he used to tell very stupid jokes so maybe he would have ended up as a failed stand-up comedian!”

On Humayun Saeed, she said, just going by his looks he could be a “dhoodh dahi bechnay wala!” Further on she mentioned that Mahira Khan should have remained a VJ, “She was really good at that.”

However, when asked about Punjab Nahi Jaungi actress, Mehwish Hayat, Iman Ali answered,

“She should have been a cosmetologist’s assistant!”

Ooooh! Talk about an indirect hit at the actress.

The comments she has passed on different actors from the fraternity has caused quite an uproar with her followers and people have criticized her for it.

While some schooled her on being negative, others reminded her about lifting others instead of degrading them!

Other followers called her out as being “Jealous!”

Some reminded the diva about nepotism in the industry and why she shouldn’t be passing out rude remarks on others

Everything You Need to Know When Buying Car Insurance in Pakistan!

car Insurance pakistan
Credits: Today Kos

Many of you might have heard about car insurance policies, however, how many of you have one?

What is an auto insurance policy? Auto insurance is a contract between a car owner and an insurance company that protects you from financial losses in the event of a car accident or theft.

The car owner or insurance owner pays a premium (an amount) to the insurance company and in return, the company agrees to pay losses which are already outlined in the policy, i.e damages to a car.

What is a premium? – According to Valuepenguin, your car insurance premium is the amount you pay your insurance company on a regular basis. The amount is paid every month or every six months as per the mutual decision in exchange for insurance coverage.

Once the premium is paid, the insurer will pay for coverages detailed in the insurance policy, like liability and collision coverage.

5 Sports Cars Under 10 Lacs In Pakistan You Must Have!

Why should I get an insurance policy? – Accidents can happen any second of any day! Hence, yes, car insurance is important. Although many individuals in Pakistan do not have these policies, these policies provide financial protection in the event of your vehicle being damaged. It will also provide cover for injuries to other drivers, passengers or pedestrians, and their property (depending on the policy you purchase).

Where can I get an auto insurance policy? – Many insurance companies all around Pakistan sell automotive insurance policies. It is important to meet with their representatives or search their policies online in order to understand the terms and conditions better.

According to Karlo Compare, there are different types of insurance like Bodily Injury Liability, Property Damage Liability, Collision, Comprehensive, Uninsured Motorist Coverage, Underinsured Motorist Coverage, and Gap Insurance.

Some of these are required while others are optional but that completely depends on your state’s laws or whether you’re automobile is financed. On the other hand, car dealerships also provide insurance policies, but its always best to compare and then decide which is suitable for you.

What types of insurances are there? – There are mainly 3 types of car insurance.

1- Third-party: This is the bare minimum required by law, but isn’t always the cheapest. It covers injuries to other people and damage to others’ property.

2- Third-party, fire, and theft: This is the bare minimum required by law, but isn’t always the cheapest. It covers injuries to other people and damage to others’ property.

3- Comprehensive: This is the bare minimum required by law, but isn’t always the cheapest. It covers injuries to other people and damage to others’ property.

What happens if I meet an accident? –  According to CompareKarlo, if you meet an accident there’s a chance that you will face legal proceedings and that’s when your choice of the correct auto insurance company will be a help as they will cover the cost of some legal expenses. Having this cover in place will be another security for you. The costs can mount up and so, having the cover in place will provide you complete peace of mind.

She stated, “To provide further insight into our business and the opportunities ahead, we’re now disclosing our revenue on a more granular basis, including for Search, YouTube ads and Cloud.”

YouTube advertising brought in $15 billion in ad revenue. Speaking of ad sales, there has been an increase of 86% from the year 2017 and 36% from the year 2018.

eMarketer analyst, Nicole Perrin stated, “The big news is that Google is breaking out YouTube ad revenues for the first time.”

He added, “This is something investors have been looking for, but the information should also give advertisers valuable information about the importance of YouTube as a digital ad vehicle. YouTube is growing strongly according to this report, and revenues are above where eMarketer had thought they were.”

In recent years, Google’s advertising business has been maturing which includes Youtube, Cloud, and Search which has left investors and analysts confused.

They wonder if Google’s ‘other’ areas of its business could eventually transform into a meaningful revenue driver, especially when Google has been critically inspecting search business and Google’s advertising.

Goldman Sachs analyst, Heather Bellini recording the statement responded positively:

“Thank you so much for the enhanced disclosure.” He added, “I think this is the best Google call — or Alphabet call — that I’ve been on since I covered the company.”

Pakistanis Are Surprised To See Their Mobile Network Change To ‘Stay Home’

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads further across the globe, people and organizations need to play their part in combating this together. It becomes more so important to spread awareness and to take preventive measures to stop the further spread of the virus.

One such organization that has really stood out in terms of its role in combating this pandemic is Telenor Pakistan which has always proven itself to be an innovative yet socially responsible organization. This time around, Telenor Pakistan has totally changed the game by introducing a unique way of spreading awareness amongst its huge customer base of 46+ million customers. What they did was simple, bold but extremely thoughtful and effective.

So, What Have They Done?

Since social distancing is probably the best way to stop the further spread of the virus, Telenor has started promoting a message requesting its consumers to “Stay Home” as much as possible to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

And How Did They Do It?

Telenor identified that people rely on their mobile phones even more these days to stay in touch, so it changed the name of its official network bar name to “Stay Home” to constantly remind people of what they need to do for their own safety as well as of those around them.

This is simply brilliant because such a small act could have such a huge impact in fighting this pandemic and this completely altruistic act by Telenor is absolutely commendable as it shows how they have forgone their commercial name to promote a social message.

Telenor users on Twitter are appreciating the commendable move!

However, customers should be informed that this may not be visible on certain devices.  Alongside this, Telenor is actively spreading general awareness around this pandemic to the whole of Pakistan for the general wellbeing of Har Pakistani because Telenor claims that in this hour of need #TelenorSaathHai.

Good job, Telenor!

False news about ice cream and cold food causing Coronavirus has been circulating and people are not happy about it

False news about ice cream and cold food causing Coronavirus has been circulating and people are not happy about it

With the increased outbreak of COVID-19, digital platforms have become the go-to hub for everyone when it comes to obtaining information about the novel virus. These platforms have also given an opportunity to those who can use this fertile ground to misguide the audience. One such incident is that of ice cream and cold food causing coronavirus, something that has recently been circulating on social channels.

A random document with a number of pointers under the title of UNICEF has been shared by multiple people. One of the points claim that ice cream and cold items cause coronavirus so it’s important to stay away from it. With so much chatter around coronavirus, no one would think twice before believing it and especially if its associated with UNICEF. But the truth is that piece of information is indeed a ‘random document’ because World Health Organisation and UNICEF Pakistan have denied this claim, calling it out as fake.

Following the release of the two global organisations that work towards public health, many people took to twitter expressing their views about the spreading of false news and the need to do a thorough fact check before circulating any such notice.

Following are tweets of some of the top twitteratis and their take on this matter:

With everyone talking about Coronavirus, social media platforms are highly prone to misinformation being spread. Hence, at a time like this it is advisable to do a bit of research before sharing content that could possibly cause more chaos.

To keep you informed, following are some facts as stated by Unicef Pakistan:

  • The virus spreads through direct contact
  • Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath while in severe cases it can cause pneumonia
  • Wearing a mask doesn’t prevent COVID-19, but if you’re coughing or sneezing wear it to protect others.
  • To date, there is no medicine to prevent or treat COVID-19.
  • Best treatment is to practice basic hygiene.

Following are four preventive actions you and your family can take to avoid the virus:

  • Wash your hands frequently using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissue immediately.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • Seek medical care early if you or your family member has a fever, cough or difficulty breathing.

Pakistan on Wednesday confirmed the first two deaths from the coronavirus outbreak in the country. Both deaths were reported in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, one in its capital Peshawar and the other in the Mardan district.

Furthermore, the global death toll hit 10,000 and jobless numbers soared due to the novel virus. There has been a partial lockdown in Pakistan in order to avoid any further close contact which is why the poor are suffering from lack of money and wages.

There are NGOs that are striving to gather enough cash and goods for the poor so they can feed their family.
